Wonderful little donut shop with a variety of flavors, all vegan options so a great choice. Went for Whack Wednesday and for 2 for 1! Cinnamon sugar has great flavor and sugar coating, very soft and good texture. The maple donut has a nice frosting and amazing donut flavor. Fantastic service and ambience, well worth making a stop !!

My wife and I go to Whack Donuts at least once a week. The donuts are always tasty and delicious. There's usually a flavor of the month so the selection is always changing. They're vegan donuts but don't let that scare you; I'd put these donuts up against any others. The owner, Vandor, is a nice dude too. He's always done for a good conversation. The shop is has a good location right on the Embarcadero. Get some sun and some donuts for lunch....good deal imo. He often sells out before closing time so make sure you get there early.

Google
All the donuts were vegan!! I had the cinnamon sugar and the oatmeal raisin donuts and they were amazing. The coffee was good too, nice and hot. Can’t wait to be back.

Google
A sinfully good downtown dessert fix, Whack Donuts have a soft, fresh, and delicious texture nestled behind a sexy looking glaze. You wouldn't know these were vegan if it wasn't advertised on the signage. Being located around the Embarcadero, I see many tech folks, locals and tourists alike flocking in for the pretty donuts on display where they rotate limited edition seasonal creations. Currently open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Come early if you don't want to miss out on the fan favorites which sell out quickly.

Google
The donuts are super delicious and worth the price. I shared a seasonal s'mores donut with my boyfriend and it was SOOO good. You can tell he puts a lot of care and love into the business. Perfect for a little treat 🩷

Google
I came here two days in a row because the donuts were so amazing. I had the Ube and the Mint and Chip cookies. They were so delicious plus you have the perfect spot to sit and chill on the steps of the Embarcadero Center.

Google
Absolutely delicious! Grabbed a couple of doughnuts as we dashed from the ferry to an appointment and they were lifesavers as well as being so flavorful and fresh. Highly recommend.

Google
Best doughnuts. A true hidden gem just across the street from the ferry station. Great for getting the day started on the good foot. Love Whackdonuts!

Yelp
Yummy vegan donuts! When I went there were only a handful of donuts left, I think probably because it was a Saturday and they don't open on Sunday and Monday. I got one of the special Valentine's day donuts. It was delicious, and I can't wait to come back to try more flavors! The owner was very friendly. The texture of the donuts is more cupcake-y than traditional donut, but I really enjoyed it.

Yelp
Wanted something yummy after taking in the sights and stopped at this little donut shop. The donuts looked good and tasted even better. The cashier was super friendly and helpful, suggesting which donuts to try when we were unsure. Ended up getting one of each. Sweet but not too sweet, just how I like them. Got a coffee and he gave us a free sticker. Great shop, will come again.

Yelp
The donuts are delicious! He has flavors for the month and they were sold out of the pumpkin spice. Come in early so you won't miss their special. Service is excellent and very friendly and professional and pleasant owner! Ambiance is a clean and bright bakery. Support small businesses!

Yelp
Yum! Ran across this spot going to lunch. The owner was so nice and the donuts are delicious!!! Can't wait to try more flavors.

Yelp
Feels odd to be the first to leave a neutral review of this donut shop. Came here with some co-workers in the afternoon and ordered one of each - OG, Cinnamon, and Chocolate. The person working at the counter (the owner?) was very nice and gave us a few extra donuts because it was near the end of the day. The flavor wasn't quite there or what we were expecting, especially on the chocolate. We actually had a bit of a hard time telling the donuts apart. I don't know how to describe the texture, but it was on the wet side. To me, it was more like bread pudding than a donut texture. I realize these are Vegan donuts, but I've enjoyed other Vegan desserts before and these were not for me.

Yelp
This place deserves a line out the door. The service is warm and friendly and the owner is truly a delight to interact with. The donuts themselves are delicious and exactly what my partner and I have been searching for in our neighborhood--moist, flavorful, and a perfect little treat on our walk home from the farmers market. The flavor choices and profiles are well-crafted and there are even rotating options monthly. We literally had a text exchange about how good the donut was (I didn't end up getting one the first time around because I erroneously thought there weren't any GF options, which there were). 10/10 this will for sure become one of our regular weekend stops.

Yelp
Was around noon and stopped by and scooped up a half dozen donuts to share with friends later. Although the day was a full deluge of rain, and I running around town doing errands they safely got home for an evening snack. I got 6 chocolate donuts. The donuts stand out for their senseless and balance of chocolate. Now the flavor profile is something else the subtlety and artistry for the flavors that roll over your tongue make this donut a stand out . My fiends had not idea they were vegan. The owner of this business is delightful and full of positivity. I am so glad I made a journey here and I hope to drop by again soon.

Yelp
A vegan donut pop-up oddly nearby a pre-existing vegan donut vendor in the Ferry Building (i.e. Donut Farm). The donut base seems to be the same fluffy round rings with a few rotating flavors. Tasty for vegan, though $5/donut seems a bit steep given the modest size and sparse layer of basic topping. Cinnamon: This was a dead ringer for those old time apple cider donuts. The perfect texture with a cakey donut ring and lots of crunchy cinnamon sugar. Mixed Berry: I enjoyed this icing, since it really did taste like berries. Better than those neon pink artificially flavored "strawberry" donuts sold from chains. Chocolate: Wasn't a fan of this one. It was just the frosting, not the donut, that was chocolate flavored. And it tasted a little off, like not as creamy as chocolate. OG Glaze (Vanilla): Kinda basic, but there was something nice about that. Got to really appreciate the fluffy donut base with only a little flavor in the icing. It's kinda like those fluffy donuts you get at the grocery store, but much nicer (and more expensive).

Yelp
This place is always closed when I try to visit. Update your hours please!!!! (Unfortunately, my firm orders from them solemnly, but I have to be honest that their donuts are terrible! Please do better

Yelp
My boyfriend and I made the trip here 7 miles from our warm and cozy home. My cousin recommended it to us New Years Eve. Knowing how much he and I LOVE donuts. Then guess what... it's closed. Can't even rate the food, service or ambiance. SO DISAPPOINTED! Probably won't return. Due to the inconsiderate omission of amended holiday hours.

Yelp
Vandor sure had outdone himself when it comes to vegan donuts. No animal product to make donuts is more health conscious than sweet. Glad I swung by Whack Donuts at Embarcadero 4 during an hour lunch last Tuesday. It's a short distance walk from my work place. A barista who happens to be in charge of making coffee will be here every Wednesdays and Saturdays. What I saw last Tuesday were the only flavor selections, so I never was upset if there's no green tea flavor. I might be back starting any Wednesday to try the coffee selection to pair with any sweet vegan donut.

Yelp
Whacko's donuts are simply out of this world. Moreover, this guy has busted his butt building his business since the dark days of the pandemic, hustling all the while remaining humble and authentic. Nicest guy you'll meet, but that's just an added benefit because his donuts are tasty AF

Yelp
First thing first, for a business to do well some amount of professionalism is essential, but maybe integrity is overrated in today's times. I went at 8am on a Saturday morning and waited for 30 mins for someone to show up, but nobody came. This is straight up disgusting. People always question how immigrants do so well, and the one glaring reason behind it is that they appreciate what they have, and never fail to show up. Not only never going here, but also never trusting such small businesses.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
Pricy but well-made vegan donuts that turn a decadent treat into something that feels healthy (but probably isn't). The price point is prohibitive, but understandable given the realities of inflation and a prime location. There's a limited selection, but what's available is always freshly made and quality. I'd liken this to the Whole Foods of donuts - but without the massive tech conglomerate funding.
google avatar

Yelp
They're interesting and tasty, but i like traditional doughnuts more. It's cool they're doing something different. I tried the berry and cinnamon sugar.

Yelp
We had Whack Donuts at our twin event and everyone loved them! I can't wait to go back and get more!

Yelp
If you love donuts, traditional ones, these aren't what you'd write home about.... I'm just realizing right now that they were Vegan- and now it makes sense.... would I have walked to find a $5 vegan donut, no.... But it's my fault for not researching. I was Intrigued by the company name- imagining that "whack" was going to mean it may be the best donut I've had... seeing them made me go ohhhhh man they're also tiny, and $5- maybe it will be the best bite ever.... We all left going... what the heck, I think someone missed some ingredients.... But Now that I see they're vegan. It makes sense.... And it was actually not bad for vegan. $5 is steep for the size, but not considering what the rent probably is in that location of SF ... So, cheers to no animal products used.

Yelp
Had these donuts at a friend's event and they were so tasty! Soft, fluffy and not overly sweet. Perfect combination! I would definitely try them again whenever I'm back in SF!

Yelp
These doughnuts are the baked cake-like kind, not deep fried. I've eaten both types across the country, and these are among the very best baked ones--and even better than many fried ones. Super fresh. Classic and exotic flavors. Generous amount of yummy glaze. Just the right size. Made with love. Very friendly, mellow owner. 100% vegan shop. That's cool. Wish SF had more shops like this with owners who care so wholeheartedly about animals, Earth, and people. It's a cozy minimalist space without seats, but clean tables and comfortable chairs are nearby outside. Thanks, Vandor! You rock!

Nathan F.

Yelp
I've had Whack Donuts three times, here are my thoughts: Sometimes you expect something significantly different when it's a vegan version- these donuts have a great texture and craveability that's equal or better than other donut places in SF (I would know lol). They cost more than the average donut, but there are plenty of opportunities to get value out of this: Trying to make an impression on coworkers? Bring Whack Donuts. Having an event where you need to have vegan options? Whack donuts. Seeing someone and looking for a vegan date spot? Whack Donuts and a stroll along the Embarcadero!! It is a company that was started in SF and embodies some of its best qualities: unique, consistent high quality, and ethically conscious. Vandor, the owner of Whack Donuts is approachable, dedicated, and wants to find ways to make his business grow! If I'm going to have a donut, I know with Whack Donuts I'm having a tasty treat, connecting locally, and supporting a small business with heart.

Yelp
These vegan donuts are consistently delicious. So far I've had the OG and chocolate, I plan to try each kind, provided I can get there by 2pm. I wish they stayed open until 3.

Yelp
Beautiful delicious doughnuts! Come support a small business making some killer treats

Yelp
Amazing service amazing food and beautiful display of delicious donuts a definite treat you must go and enjoy. You are truly missing out if you never go and get some donuts here.

Eros M.

Yelp
Clear communication on whether they will be open or closed or at an alternative location. I showed up to get donuts early in the morning on a Saturday and the door was locked.
google avatar

Niki N.

Yelp
Absurdly delicious. Best flavors. Both wish they were next door to my spot in Bernal / grateful they're not.
google avatar

Lisa N.

Yelp
Found this spot on my way home from the farmers market and was happily surprised at how good the donuts were! I don't have a sweet tooth so these donuts were perfect. Good amount of flavor and bite with just enough sugar. Thank you Vandor!

Theresa A.

Yelp
Thank you Vandor for the 2 dozen donuts and service.on February 21st for 601 California st. The donuts were loved by all. Can't wait to try the other flavors ..! Saw your post on Instagram, we'll be voting for you!

Yelp
Went to the location and it doesn't exist. Very frustrating to be lead on a wild goose chase

Yelp
Whack? My first thoughts were the interactive game at Pier 39 named Whack A Mole where countless children... myself included... released our pent up aggressions on a tiny toy that reared its cute head every few seconds. So I digress, when I heard that he would be selling his donuts at the Speakeasy Ales location on random Sundays during the peak of Covid, I looked forward to trying his stuff. While scanning through the menu of my go-to food consolidator (not sure how else to describe their business), I saw his listing and bought the doughnut sampler box (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=b75Oeb_qn9c_y46yam3Zvw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q); this box came with three donuts, cinnamon, chocolate, and Thai tea. I tried the cinnamon one (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=Ys07NCw77-scPPUfrFkO_Q&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) first a couple days later and was wary since I am not a big cake donut fan (generally need milk or tea to wash them down). I was surprised that the donut stayed relatively moist and enjoyed the prominent yet not overly sweet flavor. A day or two later, I finished the other two which were equally moist and tasty. I do not recall whether the chocolate melted more from when first purchased (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=PtzPl385nB2_tfzqXNfAXw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). Overall, I would order again if I had a craving but I must admit that I lean towards the less healthier fried version. He also offers a gluten free option.

Yelp
Delicious donuts!! Taste like little frosted cakes. Wishing Whack Donuts great success for years to come.

Ann V.

Yelp
Genuinely the best interaction I've had in SF. My friend has celiac and hasn't had donuts in eons. We came specifically to SF to get donuts and usually the shop only has gluten free donuts on special request on Sunday. We were initially devastated, but the owner kindly gave us some gluten free donuts he had extra free of charge! The donuts are delicious and my friend is delighted. Needless to say I've been made a loyal customer because of the owner and the food!! The donuts were so springy and delicious and didn't have too much sugar (so you don't feel awful after). I love Whack Donuts and will be coming back!

Cele H.

Yelp
This is a wonderful product made by a conscientious, quality driven wonderful man So worth supporting.

Yelp
Whack Donuts usually has their food stocked in SF at a grocery store, and they're known to sell out very quickly. I thought I'd never get to try them, but I was super excited to see them in Oakland at the Hella Plants Market! All three flavors that I tried were tasty. The best part of these donuts for me was the "baked not fried" approach.

Rachelle C.

Yelp
Delicious, and moist donuts in unique flavors and excellent service. A great find! I happened upon this pop-up and will keep returning. I urge others to try and support them.
google avatar

Yelp
FABULOUS donuts!!!!! Always interesting flavors, great texture, not overly sweet -yummy, my mouth is watering as I write this....and Vandor is the kind of person I want to throw my full support behind. Local San Franciscan building a solid business, great guy, great product. Go buy a dozen!!!!!!

Arjun R.

Yelp
Really tasty donuts, glad I stopped by. Will definitely be coming back because these donuts were unique

Yelp
We wanted some sweets for our office, and luckily stumbled upon Whack Donuts. It was a big hit with our team, and thankfully, he currently delivers to Rainbow Grocery, so I can pick some more up for myself weekly. We'll also likely order these again in the future. This gets a strong recommendation from me!

Gabriela D.

Yelp
The best donuts ever, I tried chocolate, cinnamon and one more that I forgot the name, but all incredible
google avatar

Jay B.

Yelp
Had to try this place out because of the name! I tried the donut shake and boy was that delicious. It was a great combination to enjoy before work

Andrew W.

Yelp
Cinnamon sugar donuts were amazing! The texture was great and the flavor was delicious. Had a brief chat with the owner and he was super friendly, we will definitely be back to try more flavors.
google avatar

Catherine S.

Yelp
These are such good vegan donuts!! And so friendly! We have loved all the flavors we have tried.

Kae H.

Yelp
We took an hour CalTrain ride just to get some gluten free donuts for my friend who has celiac and hasn't had a donut in 9 years. Let me tell you it was worth it. The owner personally gave them two gf donuts on the house and told us when and how to pre-order more (We will be coming the next Sunday we are freed from the trials of college life). My other friend and I ordered the regular vegan donuts and we were all nearly in tears about how good they were. We all had a rough week and walked out talking about how meeting the owner made us love humanity a little more today.
google avatar

Schaeffer A.

Yelp
Unique, fresh, and seasonal flavors. From Thai tea or Ube, to strawberry, blueberry, and even s'mores and peach cobbler, these donuts have never disappointed. High quality ingredients make these the best baked cake donuts you'll ever taste.

Lindsay H.

Yelp
Doesn't exist at address listed. We walked several times past the listed address and even several blocks surrounding the listed address to never find this donut shop.

Yelp
amazing donuts and friendly service! can't wait to come back and grab some more for my staff

Yelp
Best vegan dounts I've had! A must try and the owner is super kind and down to earth. Always an all around great experience...

Yelp
I never thought I'd like gluten free, vegan, baked donuts but Whack Donuts changed all of that. Delicious and addicting, it's hard not to destroy a whole box the same day. I love that I don't feel sluggish and that my arteries don't feel like sh*t after eating these like I do with regular fried donuts. I honestly can't tell the difference that these are vegan or gluten free, and the donuts being baked not fried, adds a nice consistency that works really well with the flavors, which are also super unique. My favorites are the horchata, mixed berry, thai tea, and peach cobbler . Check out his monthly specials/flavors. You can also test your own anime, comic, and/or classic 80's movies trivia when picking up your box. Vandor will definitely take you to school haha. Always great convos and vibes. Thank you Vandor/Whack Donuts for blessing us with these donuts. These donuts are Whack. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Whack Donuts is SO GOOD! I love that they make vegan donuts in a wide variety of delicious flavors. I can't wait for the next pop up. I think I bought like half a dozen when they popped up at Silver Sprocket. Looking forward to more chances to try their other flavors too!
