As Canadians in Dallas for a few days, we came for a true experience, state fair, bbq, tex-mex, all the touristy things and Whataburger was definitely on my list as it is a Texas based chain.
I love fast food and all kinds of burgers to start with, so I'm not a picky eater in that sense. Mcdonalds, Wendys, In n Out, Shake Shack, you name it, I like it all. Some are better than others and Whataburger stands out that way.
This location and overall decor/color palette definitely has a "retro" feel to it. I'm not sure if that is unique with all locations but the tables and seats looked like they were from another era. Service was amazing, prompt and speedy. Our party of 3 opted for different types of burgers, shakes, chili cheese fries and were thoroughly satisfied with all food. They were advertising a white chocolate raspberry shake when we went during the first week of October but this was not available when requested.
Pricing/portion wise, Whataburger is awesome, large portions and reasonable price. The shakes were enormous, I would recommend a small, it will be plenty.
The fries are similar to Mcdonald's. I opted for some additional sauces like ranch, or the white gravy - I've never seen this offered at any fast food joint back home so was quite excited with the selection.
While we were eating, there was a Whataburger marketing employee who was looking to gather feedback and possibly had people join a podcast. This lady was super pleasant, took the time to speak to us and handed out free coupons and Whataburger branded merch like socks or foam sleeves for drinks. As tourists we were obviously very excited and had an overall oustanding experience. We were there just at the right time!
There are so many things I'll miss about Texas, this place is one of them. I would love to try more things on the menu and hope to experience it again one day.
