I've covered baseball professionally from press boxes, and I've been to plenty of stadiums for work and play. This one is a good one, but there are areas for improvement.
First, if I lived here, I'd be a Hooks season ticket holder. Like many other minor and independent league stadiums, there's really not a bad seat in the house. Parking is great, and the concourse level is easy peasy when it comes to getting around. Employees were friendly, and the bathrooms were clean. The seats, albeit close together, don't feel crammed. Most importantly, the quality of baseball here is really good, as the Hooks are AA MiLB (which means some will likely be called up to the Bigs before the season ends).
But...
The concessions here are among the worst I've experienced in a few years. I get that the ballpark has a captive audience and that hot dogs have a 5,000% markup. However, when I buy a dog before the first pitch and it looks like something from Jack Links beef jerky company, that's a problem (see my pic). Food choices here are relatively few compared with other ballparks of similar size, and the only pop-up food/snack/booze stands were along the right field concourse area. Finally, Pepsi seems to be the official soft drink of this stadium, and that's too bad. There's a reason Pepsi twice went bankrupt! There's a reason that people try to order Coke at Taco Bell only to opt for water when the attendant asks "Is Pepsi OK?" There's a reason that Pepsi was the soda of choice during the Great Depression ... because it was cheap swill! For the love of God, bring in a different soda vendor -- even if it's Shasta or the HEB store brand! But I digress....
All joking aside, the concession operations are only as good as the person in charge, and that person must've been playing Candy Crush while the counter folks were selling stale popcorn and wrinkly hot dogs. It should also be mentioned that this is the only stadium I have ever been to (and that includes short season rookie leagues) at which the main souvenir shop was located somewhere other than the bowl. Apparently, it's located at the street level, but I never saw it. (That could be my own fault. Still, I probably would've spent more money had the main shop been on the concourse level.)
The view here is really good. It'll be interesting to see it in a few years when the original harbor bridged is razed. On another positive note, I believe this is the only stadium in which a Whataburger operates. (And I think they sell Coca Cola products.) I only wish Whataburger sold hot dogs here. ;-)
