California Burger Chain In-N-Out Burger Is Expanding to Nashville, Tennessee | Eater Atlanta

"The Texas-born burger brand is rapidly staking claims across metro Atlanta and has inspired notable local enthusiasm — evidenced by long lines and heavy hype at its recent Kennesaw opening — with additional planned locations in suburbs such as Cumming, Woodstock, and Snellville that reflect strong regional brand loyalty." - Beth McKibben

Whataburger, Tim Horton’s, and Shipley Do-Nuts Are Opening Locations in Metro Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"I note that the Texas-based fast-food chain rakes in more than $3 billion annually on its wildly popular, customizable burgers, which are commonly topped with Whataburger’s signature spicy and fancy ketchups; the company has announced plans to expand in Georgia with eight new restaurants over the next two years, including locations slated for Kennesaw and Woodstock this year and Cumming and Buford in 2023, and a Whataburger is already open in Thomasville near the Georgia–Florida state line." - Beth McKibben

The gentleman (Asian), rocking a Jennifer C. cashier receipt, which was either a hilarious mistake or a bold fashion choice, gave a warm welcome from behind the counter, laying on the professional manner, maintaining epic eye contact, and flashing a smile that could light up a room. The grub was ridiculously good, and the facilities were so clean they sparkled, from the parking lot to the interior, thanks for the awesome experience, Whataburger. In stark contrast, my previous visit to the McDonough location was a total bummer.

Google
Very clean and brand new. Employees need training. Food is greasy and burgers seam to be more steamed than flat top seared. I would never go back. Wendy”s is better. Sonic is better. I just don’t get why people go out of their way for this. The girl taking my order got it wrong and I asked for mayo. The guy went into the kitchen and never came back.

Google
My second time here and so far have enjoyed the food and service. First time I had the fish sandwich which was excellent, served hot and the fries were good. It takes a while for the food because it's cooked to order. Second was a burger and onion rings. The burger was tasty and onion rings were not greasy and very good. I would go back

I want Whataburger to be so good. They just can’t seem to get there here in GA. I have family in Texas and the chain is everywhere and awesome. But not here. To start though, the cashier was awesome. Friendly. Polite. Patient with a pre-teen who couldn’t make up his mind. LOL But after several visits at this location, the trend is there. Repeatedly the burger patties are overdone, the sandwiches are disassembled so mustard is all over the wrapper and outside of the bun. The buns (tonight) seemed unduly flat and stale. Fries are usually very good and their soda dispensers provide excellent flavored Coke (no…not all Coke is the same everywhere). Breakfast biscuits leave much to be desired; Often hard and dry. Eggs only so-so. It doesn’t help that a Whataburger that is closer to my house is even worse. I think I’ll save my Whataburger $$$ for those in Texas.

Google
Ordered a honey bbq sandwich. Tasted really good. The smell reminded me of my favorite burger place (buds broiler) back at my home state of louisiana. It's an A+ in my book

Google
⭐ 1 out of 5 stars — Only because zero isn’t allowed “Gourmet Disappointment: A Masterclass in How Not to Make a Burger” If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to bite into a burger that tastes like regret, congratulations — Whataburger in Forsyth County has perfected the recipe. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with the unmistakable aroma of… is that sadness? Burnt hopes? Hard to tell. The staff looks like they’re being held hostage by the fryer, and honestly, after tasting the food, I understand why. The burger itself? A true miracle of modern culinary science — they’ve somehow managed to make a patty both dry and greasy at the same time. The bun dissolves on contact, as if it realized too late that it didn’t want to be part of this experience either. And the toppings? Let’s just say the lettuce had the kind of crunch you only get from produce that’s contemplating retirement. The fries? Well, if you enjoy eating warm pencil shavings, you’ll be thrilled. But the real highlight is the wait time — because after 25 minutes of sitting in the drive-thru, you’ve aged enough to forget why you even wanted a burger in the first place. By the time you get your food, you're just grateful life still has meaning. In conclusion: If you’re craving disappointment wrapped in wax paper, look no further. This Whataburger delivers — just not food worth eating.

Google
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised today. I live in Duluth so when the whataburgers opened up there's one in Buford and then there's one in Cumming. The few times I drove past the Buford location, the drive-thru line always looked insane. I went ahead and tried out the cumming location today. They have two lane drive-thru. I was able to order my food and get out of the drive-thru within minutes. The food was fresh and hot. I tried the Monterey burger. It was pretty good. The person taking the order through the drive through was very nice as was the lady standing passing out the orders.

Google
Arrived 315PM no one at the cash register I counted at least six people around the back area one of them leaning against the counter just looking at me. Another one asked me if I’ve been helped and I said no! order was taken at approximately 3:27 long time to wait for fast food. French fries were great, but the Whataburger itself felt like they dumped the salt shaker on it too salty I guess I won’t be coming back to this Whataburger again!
google avatar

Alex K.

Yelp
I grabbed a breakfast burger and really enjoyed it. It was extra salty though, so be careful. Honestly, I'm pretty sure it was the hash browns that made it too salty. Tone it down! I'm sure they won't change their recipe for me, but I enjoyed it and I'd get it again.

Yelp
Stopped for lunch after being at the hospital for an appointment. Ordered the #2 with double meat, cheese, fries and soda. For the grand total of $12.83 which is not bad. Was pleasantly surprised the burger was hot and moist not like you normally find at McDonald's. Was a little concerned it took awhile for the meal to get to me but after taking the first bite it was not an issue. This Whataburger was a lot better than my past experience in Texas the last time I ate at one. Keep up the great work thank you.

Yelp
As far as fast food chains go, Whataburger is one of my favorites. I first discovered this chain while on a trip to Texas a while back and I had been wishing they would open some in Miami since then. My family moved to Georgia not too long ago and I was happy to discover that there are some Whataburger locations in Georgia. None are too close to my new house, but there are a couple within about half an hour's drive or so. This is probably a good thing as if I had one too close, I might eat there too much and while that might make my tastebuds happy, my waistline would not be as thrilled about it. Yesterday, hubby and I were on our way home from a weekend staycation near the mountains when we saw a Whataburger. It was barely 10 AM, so we thought only breakfast would be available to us, which disappointed my husband who is not a breakfast lover, but we stopped anyway. Hubby was super happy to discover that they serve BOTH breakfast and lunch options until 11 AM. This was great because he got his burger fix and I got to try out their breakfast, which I was curious about. My husband had the regular Whataburger, which he thoroughly enjoyed (too quickly for me to get a picture of). I ordered the sausage breakfast bowl and substituted the regular biscuit for a jalapeno cheddar one. The bowl was packed with flavor and hit the spot. I loved their mini hashbrown fries that were just the perfect amount of crispy and also appreciated that I got to enjoy that and a handful of my husband's fries. I love Whataburger fries and think they are the best of all the fast food chains. They are similar to McDonald's but Whataburger cooks them better so they are crispier and more importantly, they actually add salt, which McDonald's never does and drives me crazy cause saltless fries just suck. The sausage in my bowl was good, but I think the bacon would have been better, so next time I will go for that instead. Service was a tad slow but we chose to dine in and had a breakfast and lunch item in the same order, so I think this may have contributed to it. Overall, everything was good and I will certainly be back at some point.

Yelp
I hadn't been to a Whataburger in a long time (decades), and I'm really glad I've rediscovered a nice alternative to other fast-food joints for an occasional burger and fries. I pass on the lettuce and mustard and add ketchup and mayo. Damn tasty. And the fries are now my fast food favorites -- no spices, no gimmicks. This location in Cumming is pretty awesome and might be the cleanest fast-food restaurant I've ever been to. Truly spotless from floors, to tables, to windows. The employees are also friendly and welcoming. This merits 5-stars. Cheers! RS

Yelp
I came here for lunch TGIF.Service was friendly and smiles abound. Food was very tasty especially the chicken sandwich a onion rings.Ambiance whats burger colors, pop music, and cold AC. Not sure why all the negative reviews but today they were on their game!

Yelp
Overall our food was great, I lived in Tx for 10yrs, so Whataburger is even better after moving! We ordered inside, I understand but didn't love having to wait & ask for more ketchup but while waiting I noticed all of the employees making orders wearing gloves which I appreciated! We also enjoyed the open seating with tables w/ a bench seat. You can also place your order on screen inside. my burger was a little heavy on the mustard but the onion rings were perfect!

CherylJ F.

Yelp
When the drive thru gets your order correct and the burgers aren't raw! It's good Breakfast burritos good when fresh.
google avatar

Dwight K.

Yelp
Drive-thru is extremely slow. Not sure if they had to kill the cattle to make the burgers. What could take 10 mins to serve a single car!?!
google avatar

Glenda H.

Yelp
I am missing the garlic steak burger they used to have?!? Or was I dreaming? The food is always good and fresh. I haven't dined in, only drive thru. Yummy burgers! Service is good and like I said, haven't been inside yet.
google avatar

Margie F.

Yelp
Don't go through the drive thru. Your food will be cold before you get to the window!
google avatar

Linda D.

Yelp
So glad the dining room is open! Staff was friendly, helpful, sadly no GF buns in this market, but gladly will place it as "specials and accommodate placing into lettuce wrap! Dining room and bathroom were clean, self- serve selection of drinks. Bring jacket it's a good relief from the heat. The burger was good, but rather salty, shoe string fries delicious! But taste is subjective might be Ok salt wise for others. Note entrance not intuitive, you get in from. The exit lane of the plaza.
google avatar

Tiffany S.

Yelp
The drive through line was really long but we only waited about 15 mins from time we got there until we got to the window. They didn't put any cheese on my sandwich the first time and it took them about 10 minutes to bring it back out, but it was right then. It's like a mixture between McDonald's fries, Wendy's burgers and Burger King chicken sandwiches. Two sandwiches with fries and a drink each was $22. It is open 24/7, so that's a plus if we're out late. So in summary, wait until the hype dies down and then go. It's not worth the 30 min-1 hour wait it has been being!

Yelp
The food is just ok. Lots of salt on the burger. I ordered a triple whataburger with toast bun on both sides. Bun was burnt. I did get a call from someone at the restaurant when I made an online complaint. Got my money back. The cement at the entrance is filthy. Can't believe how bad it is and the dining room has only been open 3 weeks. Employees just standing around chatting. No sense of urgency
google avatar

Ira K.

Yelp
Tried the Whataburger. No cheese with grilled onions. It was very good. Hot and fresh. The bun was soft and fresh. I've been here once before when they first opened and it wasn't good. I think they worked out the kinks and are no offering a much better product. I will definitely be back.

Oliver K.

Yelp
New management is running this place into the ground. Idk what y'all have done but I haven't had my burgers come out hot in weeks, just recently I got fries that were cold and stale. This isn't the Whataburger brand and a serious look needs to be taken at the recent decline in quality. Additionally the process of one person taking several orders from several cars simultaneously is egregious. Please get it together.
google avatar

Chef T.

Yelp
An update to my previous Whataburger review... Now after visiting numerous times I can proudly say that this Whataburger is doing a fantastic job. They've never made a mistake on my order and the food is always hot, fresh, and good. The inside is run nicely and the crew all does a bang up job... place is super clean and from the looks of it so is the back kitchen area. Bathrooms are always spotless which is a good way to tell if everything else is... Keep up the good work guys.

Yelp
Completely underwhelmed at my first visit. Dined in right before lunch rush so it wasn't crowded. Burger came rather quickly only for it to be almost room temperature. Needless to say the cheese was not even melted. Onions were huge chunks which does not go well on a burger. So wanted it to be good but I honestly do not think I'll ever go back as I only ate about half my meal. Staff was really good though but so many other options for burgers around here that will get the nod over this new chain here in GA. Sorry whataburger but the food did not live up to the hype.
google avatar

Dwayne H.

Yelp
Have given this location three attempts to get their act together since they opened and I have been disappointed every time. The burgers are larger round than competitors, but they are super thin and completely without flavor. The fries are the shoestring style and have been cold and stale. The breakfast biscuit (sausage, egg and cheese) was the worst I have ever had; hard biscuit, cold egg, super salty sausage. Breakfast hashbrown consisted of two little hard, cold fingers of hashbrown; absolutely pathetic! This chain needs to change their name to Whattamistake!
google avatar

Robin R.

Yelp
Absolutely Horrible! Kid taking order was very nice and placed order correctly. Cooks messed up order. Suppose to get bacon burger. Got a burger with NO bacon. Too much mustard on both burgers we got and EXTREMELY greasy. Buns were stale. Fries were under cooked and mushy. Vanilla milkshake had no flavor at all. $24 for complete CRAP! I'll stick to McDonald's or Burger King!

Yelp
Being from Texas, this tastes like home. I went on the 2nd day they were open, so only the drive thru is open for service. Twi lines of cars with staff taking orders from tablets to help keep things moving. Service was as quick as it can be for food that is cooked fresh to order. I will definitely be going back.

Jeremiah F.

Yelp
They take forever and they messed up my order. You'd think that a 30 minute wait time could at least be enough time for them to make my order correctly, but no. There were only 2 cars ahead of me and it took a half hour.

Terri A.

Yelp
I stopped by my local What-a- burger today. I'm tired I worked all day, what a break for me. It was crazy busy, I could see the cashier was working hard with holiday shoppers bombarding them. I put my single order in and waited. It's busy and I understand. I watch as thay hurried to give every order to the right person. The cashier that took my order made a point to say I'm next but I'm okay with the wait. I was next, and she magically produced the spicy ketchup when I asked for it. Perfect. i noticed the other waiting customer laugh at her magic. Thanks to this location and for the wonderful lady of that front register on 12/23/2024 in the afternoon. You are a keeper

Kevin K.

Yelp
Not sure why this location is so much different from all others I have visited in GA. Always enjoy a burger from this chain but this location leaves a lot to be desired. Each time I have ordered a single burger with Ketchup and Mayo ( only ) they are flowing over the side of the burger and all over the wrapper .when . you open it - never happens at other locations . Been there twice and it if I ever go back would suggest you order condiments on the side
google avatar

Peter Y.

Yelp
First off, i love Whataburger. When this place first opened, there was a reason the car line went into the Belk parking lot. Now? It's like those making the food don't give a crap. So sloppy and messy you need a role of paper towels to get stuff off your face. Everything is uneven and nasty. It's a dang shame. I think it will be a long time before we return.

Blackdeath ..

Yelp
Your manager on December 23rd at night 11pm groaned at me after I thanked her for giving me my meal that I payed for. I was very displeased by this. Should really step up the service and appreciate their customers. I will not be returning.

Jan K.

Yelp
Good food. Poor parking and drive through in Dawsonville. My first time at Whataburger. Pull into parking. All parking spaces by door are reserved for "pick up." All reserved spaces empty. I get into drive through line. Have to wind through other parking lots to get to "order here." Girl messes up my order. Wanted 2 #1 combos. One with ketchup and cheese only. The other w everything but ketchup. Two large chocolate shakes instead of a coke. Two M fries. Repeated the order slowly six times. She was totally bumfuzzled. Could not get it straight. Drive to window to pick up order. This one asks if I wanted a root beer. No, no root beer. Never mentioned in my six times of repeating a simple order anything about root beer Then she gave me one shake and a coke. Plus food. Got food order right, but come on .. left extremely irritated.
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
Drive through service, can't see inside restaurant , but it will open a month, I ordered bacon cheese burger bigger then Big Mac, sauce pretty good, beefy taste with onions, lettuce, pickles , I will recommend this burger chain newly in the community.
google avatar

Heinz S.

Yelp
Great burger. Fresh ingredients. Lots of tomatoes on the burger. They even have spicy ketchup.

Jeff S.

Yelp
Ordered two large chocolate shakes from the drive thru tonight.( 5 cars in front of me.. 30 mins. Gave her 12 dollars and she handed me the change back and shakes (with no receipt) I then looked at the shakes to find what looked like vanilla shakes . I asked her if these are chocolate ? " with a attitude "there is chocolate in there but you will have to stir it yourself" This is last straw .Never going back.
google avatar

Bob P.

Yelp
Got 20 minutes to waste for slow service and lousy food, go here. Drive thru is pathetic and every time I have been there, they get my order wrong or the food is cold. The staff couldn't care less, they just stand around talking to each other. Never going back, I gave this place several chances to get it together but they commitment to the customer sucks!
google avatar

Paul W.

Yelp
BOLO BOLO !! Whataburger in Cumming is slowly ripping off its customers a little at a time. Purchased a meal and was over charged for it. No one wanted to correct it! I'll never go back again! Check you receipts folks.
google avatar

Art M.

Yelp
First time I tried it and I loved the food. I ordered a triple and it was delicious. It took a while to get my order taken at the counter but it didn't take long to get the food. Only thing was they don't seem to put ketchup on the burger(not a huge problem as long as you can get ketchup). They seemed to put too many onions on for my taste but I was able to remove some. All in all a great burger. I have to add the physical size of the burger was what I remember what the whopper USED to be as it actually took two hands to handle it.

Wanda S.

Yelp
First and last time at Whataburger, I ordered a number one all the way she had no clue what all the way was when I got the burger it had only mustard lettuce, tomato pickles onions no mayonnaise no ketchup. I ordered onion rings when Scott picked up the order there were two orders of fries. He mentioned I had ordered onion rings and the lady said no I don't think so. Did not change it. They only have one bathroom stall in the women's restroom so there was a line out in the hall what restaurant establishment offers one stall nobody.

Andrea S.

Yelp
How horrible!!!!!!!!! I got the chicken strip basket. There were three tiny ice old pieces of hard crusty chicken and a piece of burnt toast. The fries were cold and dried out. My husband got the grilled chicken sandwich and again it was cold and dried out and very small. There absolutely no value for the amount they charge. You can go to a real sit down restaurant for the same price and get decent food. The place was busy since they were new, but people are not that stupid to return. All said, the Diet Coke was good, but again, it was a brand new machine.
google avatar

Penni B.

Yelp
Ordered online burger. Had 4 piece of chopped lettuce and 3 pieces of chopped onion. Frys were cold and soggy.. Did they offer to remake it nope...I sat and watched my husband eat his meal. I'm going to 5 guys now. This place is a joke. Really,
google avatar

Melinda S.

Yelp
My burger and onion rings and strawberry shake was great . My hubby liked his burger and onion rings and shake as well. We definitely will be back. The nice young lady who took our order was friendly and we got our food pretty quickly , and it wasn't that busy when we went around 615 pm Tuesday evening. The drive thru of course was busy but the inside wasn't.
google avatar

James D.

Yelp
Better fast food burgers and fries than the other chains. Apple pies are like the old fashioned ones you got at McDonald's.

Philip S.

Yelp
Slowest drive through on the planet. You should avoid. Not quite sure why but when it opened it was fast and great. Not anymore. Come with patience and extra time.
google avatar

Art H.

Yelp
Normally when a chain comes to town, corporate brings in the A team to really hit it out of the park. This particular store evidently didn't pay the requisite dues. It's still not fully open but could certainly take a few clues from the famous southern chicken sandwich chain as to how to run a drive thru. I used to really enjoy the chain when I lived in Texas and also when my son was at FSU. This store leaves much to be desired. Sloppily made sandwiches and orders that don't contain the requested condiments. In all, disappointing. Hopefully it gets its act together. I wish it well but you won't catch me waiting in the drive thru for upwards of a half an hour for this lack of quality.

Tony L.

Yelp
I ordered the burger combo and the nuggets. When I got home, my first bite tasted like lettuce that had gone bad. The picture I took is what the lettuce looked like in the burger. The nuggets were good but the burger was disappointing
google avatar

Iskander K.

Yelp
I was standing at the register for more than 10 mins. There were at least 5 people working and none of them helped me. I made eye contact with so many of them and still nothing. Decided to Leave. Management needs to watch these kids.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
My daughter has been there late evening around 9pm. Dine-in had horrible service. Asked for extra sauce and the person went and got on their phone. Then worker went to the restroom. She had to go back up there to finally get sauce 10 mins later.
google avatar

Steve W.

Yelp
Heard so many great things I had to try. What a disappointment. Order took about a half hour. Not what I expected. So many other burger places
google avatar

Linh N.

Yelp
Decided to try the new Whatabuger location in Cumming, GA. Ordered the food at 7:48pm, food didn't come out until 8:19pm. Very disappointed, the food was cold, including the fries. We won't be going back.
google avatar

Leigh M.

Yelp
Horrible wait for food to arrive cold and greasy. Preordered through their app for curbside pickup. Waited well over 20 minutes. Went inside to try to get order and was told they weren't doing curbside pickup due to understaffing. Why take online orders like that if you don't have staff? This is our third visit and all we're very long waits with food cold and unappetizing when we got it. Not sure why it's such a challenge to deliver hot food in a decent timeframe. Don't recommend and won't be going back. Three strikes and you're out! Yuck
google avatar

Food L.

Yelp
L-O-V-E this place, food taste fresh, my order is always correct, the customer service is outstanding! Been here 5 times in one month. Thanks for the great food and wonderful service I really appreciate kind ppl

Yelp
So glad WhatABurger is finally here. Their service this first week has been good, will be looking forward to the dining room opening. The food was fresh and fantastic.

Scott L.

Yelp
Stood at the counter for 5 minutes without even being noticed. All the employees weee focused on the drive through

S S.

Yelp
We went inside to eat. Food was hot and exactly what we were expecting. Service was friendly and fast and the restaurant was clean. My patty melt and fries were really good.
