5 New Dallas Restaurant Openings to Know Right Now | Eater Dallas

"A Plano spot serving Chicago-style fried chicken and Windy City novelties: practically every part of the yardbird (including gizzards and livers) is marinated for 24 hours, then deep-fried, and the menu pairs the chicken with Chicago favorites like deep-fried pizza puffs and a signature Polish sausage served on a bun with grilled onions." - Amy McCarthy

What’s Cluckin – Fried Chicken Joint of the Future 🍗 I was seriously craving some fried chicken and decided to browse online for a new spot. That’s when I stumbled upon What’s Cluckin. It was just a 15-minute drive, so I figured, why not? When I arrived, I was thrown off—it’s tucked away in what felt like the middle of nowhere on Legacy West. No big sign, no usual restaurant vibe. For a second, I thought my GPS betrayed me. I almost left, but curiosity won. I double-checked their website and yep—that was the correct address. Here’s the twist: no dine-in. It’s all pickup or delivery only. So I placed an order through their site, got a text confirmation and a live tracking link. Pretty slick. Around 17 minutes later, I got a notification that my order was ready. Walking in felt like stepping into a tech-forward Amazon locker zone. Two screens, a row of lockers—definitely not your grandma’s chicken shack. I entered my code, and—boom—one of the boxes popped open with my food inside. I ordered the 8-piece fried chicken and a side of fried tilapia. Both were cooked just right: crispy, flavorful, not too greasy. That said, they were a tad too salty for my taste—but nothing a cold drink can’t fix. ✅ Pros: Fast, efficient, futuristic pickup system. Tasty food. ⚠️ Cons: Salty seasoning, and no dine-in (just a heads up!). Would I go back? Yes—for the food and the experience. It’s like the Chick-fil-A of 2040.

Google
Been eating here since their prior locations, I personally feel the taste at Chicago chicken coop location was the best, but it’s still delicious. No dine-in so I plan around that and eat at a nearby park. I definitely recommend. A heads up with the location, the door dashers and uber eats drivers have no respect and don’t pay attention when they drive up. Be aware when you get out of your car, opening your door and what not.

Google
I’m so happy this place has opened back up! My girlfriend and I have been going here for a while, and it’s some of the best fried chicken in town. The people at the last location always helped us out and treated us great. Now we have gone to the new location over 5 times, and the food has been delectable and seasoned to perfection! The mild sauce they have is also amazing, and I’m glad that they’ve been consistent with their great food quality. They even have $1 wings on certain days, which is an absolute deal that you can’t pass up on. All in all, this place is great and a must-try!

Google
Good (my Chicago native friend said "Great!") but please be aware that zero dine-in area is available at this "ghost kitchen" setup. You must order online (pickup) or for delivery. We drove there without realizing that was the case and had to order, then take our food elsewhere to eat it.

Google
Always a wonderful and delicious experience when we visit. We live in Royse City and drive the 45 min to an hour just to have this food and it never disappoints. Tried the catfish and fried chicken today and oohh whee they were sooooo good, the food is always cooked to order and delicious. Hubby is from Chi so he needs his specific food sometimes served the way he remembers, chicken and fries wet with the mild sauce and seasoning.

Google
I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while since I’m always in the area. I walked in and ordered today and was told it’d take 15 minutes but it actually took closer to 25. I was willing to look past that and just order online in the future. However, I was quite disappointed with the food. The fries were a bit stale, cold, and with not much flavor. I don’t like my food salty but my boys did say they had no taste. I spent $27 on an 8-piece mixed and large fries so I feel like it was a waste of money.

If I could give 10 stars I would! Amazing food and a great addition to Revolving kitchen!

Google
I ordered something completely different, but I truly enjoyed the chicken wings. It was fresh and well seasoned. I will definitely come back and try the fish next time. The restaurant was cleaned and everyone was nice when you entered. There are tables inside and outdoors.

Yelp
We found this place on yelp and it had great reviews, we ended up ordering 4 pieces of catfish and fries and when I tell you this is the best catfish I've ever had it is not an exaggeration. You could taste everything had some MSG in there but that makes everything 10x better. The only thing I wish that was different is that I ordered more! I didn't even know catfish could taste like that. I will be back.

Yelp
I was excited to try this place but wow... they put sauce on everything. I thought it would just be on the chicken (which would've been fine), but nope fries drenched too. Why would you do that? Between the soggy fries and the overwhelming sauce, it just wasn't it. If you get I guess get the sauce on the side.

Yelp
Tried this place for lunch, solid 4 stars. The gizzards were very under seasoned, but chicken and chicken wings seasoned pretty well. Also they serve whole wings! Everything is made to order so it comes out really hot!!! Only a few negatives. The menu is a little confusing I thought, no fountain drinks, you have to ask for Ketchup and no salt on the tables.

Yelp
I'd been meaning to come visit this restaurant after hearing about it a few months ago. I happened to be in the mood for chicken, so Saturday was the day. I was pleasantly surprised by the artwork, how spacious and clean the restaurant was. And also there wasn't the smell of grease in the air like some places have. The young lady behind the counter was very friendly and happy to give recommendations. I ordered 3 wings (cluck dust, yes, this is not a typo, cluck dust on the side), and small orders of okra and onion rings, and a lemon cake bowl. The wings were very good! I was almost done with my first before realizing I hadn't sprinkled any dust on it. The seasoning was also good but I used it sparingly. I love okra and can vouch that theirs is worth getting. It was not greasy and seasoned well. The onion rings, on the other hand, were overcooked. The rings inside were gooey so I wouldn't order these again. The cake bowl was also a thumbs down and definitely not worth $10. It was dense and made me wonder how long it'd been in the store. It was not worth the extra calories so I just ate a small piece and saved the rest to give away. This will not prevent me from going back, of course. The stars of my order were very delish and filled my belly!

Yelp
Oooweee this place hit the spot :) I came on a Friday and got a great deal on the fish fry. The wings and fish were super crispy, just the way I like it! This spot really gives off southern hospitality, everyone was really nice and checked on us a few times throughout our meal. Definitely give this restaurant your business, they deserve it!

Yelp
The food was delicious!! The service was ok, nothing to brag about. The restaurant was full beautiful art . I had the lunch special. 5 whole wings, French fries a slice of bread and hot sauce. The chicken was cooked as we ordered. The food was hot and the flavor of the chicken was perfect, the fries could have used some seasoning . It was quiet for lunch hour, but peaceful . I will eat here again. I wish one was closer to my home. The restaurant could have been a little cleaner - wipe up after people eat . Lots of salt and crumbs on most of the tables and seats .

Yelp
Let me start off with I went during the lunch rush and placed my order, busy and steady crowd. Customer service was good , she greeted me upon ordering in which that made me feel welcomed. Place my order it was reasonable priced. Came out well seasoned hot and fresh. Fries were crispy and golden brown . Will I return definitely... oh I forgot to mention the fresh pound cake I ordered... moist and buttery! Wait wasn't to bad for a lunch break , try them I think you would like it
google avatar

Mark L.

Yelp
Absolutely outstanding fried chicken livers. They were cooked fresh to perfection and served warm, not previously cooked livers sitting under a heat lamp like some restaurants. The food was reasonably priced, the service was great, and the ambiance was very relaxed. My only regret... there's only one, and it's in far North Plano off Park and the Dallas North Tollway. Will definitely go back when I make a grocery run to Costco - Plano

Kim B.

Yelp
What's the new address. Chicken is always hot and fresh. Good fried okra also. I hope they didn't move to far.

Yelp
I can always count on what's clucking to get some good fried chicken wings. I have tried their fish as well and it was amazing. Love how you can always order ahead to cut down on the wait time. The establishment is always clean and not very crowded or busy as most people take it to go. Prices are decent. Def a must try!
google avatar

Jacy P.

Yelp
Excellent chicken!! Flavor is amazing. Sides are decent size portions and tasty! I love the fried okra.

B B.

Yelp
I never write a review but for me to order my food, get a text stating it's prepared and wait an additional 30 mins with only a Messages stating "your order is delayed" from an iPad. Oh let's not forget the gentleman yelling from the back for me to close the locker from a previous order yet I still haven't gotten my food. I'm now back at work....an hour wasted....$11 wasted.....Battery In My Electric Car Wasted......no lunch .and still no text stating my delay was over and to come get my order. You all Have great food but this experience was crazy!
google avatar

Missy S.

Yelp
I visited the establishment at 4:15 for takeout order. The chicken was fried to perfection. The fried chicken is Chicago-style. The condiments seem to come with a hefty price tag. While the flavors are good, be prepared for some sticker shock on the extras. The service was good. You place your order and wait, so the interaction is minimal. The ambiance it ultra casual, just your standard seating. There a mix of tables and booth.

Yelp
Iwas searching for some good whole wings and located this place online and decided to give it a try. I placed my order online and l it up. It was ready for me when I arrived and when I walked in I was greeted and the cashier was a male who was very pleasant. I ordered two 5 piece wings and some lemon pepper okra and man they were delicious. About a week later I returned for some more and just like the first time I placed an online order but I got a 5 piece regular, 5 piece with hot sauce and lemon pepper and some gizzards with okra but when I arrived they were out of okra so I got onion rings. The onion rings were really good but I wanted okra bad. The food wasn't the same as it was the first time but still not bad. I wish they would add some better drink selections and some desserts to the menu
google avatar

Leena J.

Yelp
Super friendly people and fresh hot food- we ordered three combos with fries and chicken strips- all were made with tender loving care- we waited for a few minutes while they prepared the meals- they were so nice and offered us specials sauces.
google avatar

Kera D.

Yelp
I absolutely love What's Cluckin'! The chicken and fish are cooked to perfection, and the addition of Cluckdust gives them an unbeatable flavor. We have been over a dozen times since moving here and there hasn't been a time where we haven't had an amazing experience. The staff is incredibly friendly, making every visit a delightful experience. It's not rare to see the owners here and that just makes the experience even better. You can tell there is a lot of love into this place and it shows in the food. If you visit I recommend the chicken wings, fish, fries, okra, shrimp and cookies. Basically, try everything you won't be disappointed. The hot and freshly made food, paired with reasonable prices, makes it a go-to spot. The ambiance is fantastic with multiple TVs and art-filled walls. My top pick is the fish and wing combo with Cluckdust and mild sauce - a flavor explosion! Don't miss out on their delicious cookies if you have room. It's a great experience that never disappoints!

Yelp
They greet you with a smile and, I like to support black-owned businesses. I only gave it 3 stars because it takes so long to get your order. On a Monday, I went there around 11:30 and left around 12:25 for some wings takeout. Your order shouldn't take that long. It takes a long time to get your food, but the food was hot and seasoned well.
google avatar

Trammell K.

Yelp
Today I tried the catfish as it had been a while and I love to support a small business. The taste is on point! Me be a lover of fried fish this place will definitely have your taste buds dancing. Try them out!

Jay.R R.

Yelp
Wow! A little confused initially when looking for the spot. Tried another location was closed. Went back placed the order and waited. Food was hot and fresh. I would recommend giving them a try. A little different picking up from the back of a strip mall. Very much worth the try though . I would get it again when in Frisco.

Yelp
I ordered 2 lunch specials for me and my daughter. One a wing meal and the other a dark meal. They were around $11 total and came with fries, felt like a good deal. The service was okay and the food was ready fast. We took the food to go but it looked nice inside. The chicken was really good, not on the level of Mike's, Ricky's or 2 Neighbors so I went 4 stars. I'd go back if I was in the area.
google avatar

Lawrencia L.

I ordered something completely different, but I truly enjoyed the chicken wings. It was fresh and well seasoned. I will definitely come back and try the fish next time. The restaurant was cleaned and everyone was nice when you entered. There are tables inside and outdoors.

Yelp
Hospitality! I'm from California and this visit was a lovely breath of fresh air. The gentleman was very patient and gracious. He even brought my order out to the car. I hadn't eaten all day so I was absolutely starving. Now on to the food. I order liver, gizzards and a side of fried okra. I was given hush puppies. I called and the woman offered a refund but being that I am visiting from California and staying at Texas Presbyterian hospital with my daughter...going back out is not always convenient. I was not happy with the gizzard. The liver was ok. I dont eat hush puppies so I threw them away. My daughter cat fish and fries. She said the catfish was decent but the fries were lacking in salt. They give great portions but I just didn't like what I ordered. 3 stars for the hospitality as well as the kindness of the woman who i spoke with when I called back about not receiving the fried okra and 1 star is for the food. I just didn't find it appetizing so I threw it away.

Gloria G.

Yelp
Worst experience ever since they went to this new thing. I did not get what I ordered and what I did get was dry and the toughest chicken tenders I've ever seen which was not what I ordered. I will never go or order from them again.

Tom

Yelp
Love that chicken! Angie and Chris are amazing! Chicago style fried chicken that can not be beat!!!
google avatar

Mary M.

Yelp
Do you miss the Fried Chicken that yo' Big Mama used to make? You know, the one that she battered in a brown paper bag and fried in Crisco Vegetable Shortening? Well Baba!!! Look no further. What's Cluckin is here! This beautifully curated Chicken Shack(the proper name for a good chicken spot) is located in Prestonwood Park in Plano. If you see a little outdoor courtyard with Red Umbrella's, you are in the right spot. Upon entering, you are warmly greeted by a simple and exceptionally clean atmosphere of great music and gorgeous local Black Art pieces that adorn every wall. The menu(which is prominently featured over the counter) has your deep-fried fantasy covered. They have everything from traditional fried chicken, to gizzards, fish, okra and more. Mr. ordered the Fried Fish and 2pc Dark Combo and I ordered the Fried Fish and 3 Wing Combo w/Fries. Now, I'm telling you right now! This ain't Popeyes/Church's with Chicken in the window; waitin on you(don't get it twisted, I LOVEs ME some Popeyes/Church's). NO SIR!!! This Chicken is made to ORDER! To guarantee every piece is fresh and pipin hot! The chicken and fish were both golden brown and oleaginous in flavor and seasoning! Every bite delivers that perfect snapping crunch, that only comes with freshly fried chicken. The juice just runs down yo chin! The fish was flaky, without being dry from being over fried and the fries??? Shoestring crispy and fluffy potato'y(IT'S A WORD!!!!) goodness with just the right amount of salt! They even offer their own assortment of condiments and seasonings that you can request on the side! If you got room, they have Banana Pudding, Peach Cobbler, and Cookies, to round out your meal! I wish my grandmother was still alive, but the Lord called her home to fry Chicken for him and gave me What's Cluckin in her place!!! Check it OUT!!!!
google avatar

Mary C.

Yelp
I was craving for crispy fried chicken. My husband found this place on yelp and we went based on yelp reviews. It did not disappoint. Thank you fellow yelpers. Chicken wings , chicken leg and thighs was crispy and juicy. The okra had just right amount of seasoning and batter. We also ordered the liver and gizzard, mix. The people at the register and counter where pretty nice. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Faith M.

Yelp
Are you looking for the kind of fried chicken your Grandmother or your great Aunt used to make? That homemade, delicious crusty fried chicken where when you bite into it is crunchy yet, juicy chicken with perfect homemade love. I'm just talking chicken right now!! Took chicken breasts and livers home with us. Ate this chicken till the bones were shiny. Think this wonderful chicken restaurant will be around for a very long time! Watch the business side owners, you just may succeed and become the best chicken house in Texas for now. Then...national!!!
google avatar

Reynan B.

Yelp
My daughter and I got the catfish with, wings and fries... There was nothing left on that plate! Fries are thin like McDonald's, the wings are whole wings so that's a major plus and the catfish was crispy and so flaky. Everything was fresh out the fryer so be careful not to bite into in as soon as you get it. Customer service was very friendly and accommodating, the vibe was chill with lots of artwork to look at. Not your average "Plano" chicken spot so it was nice to see quality soul food cooking in the area.
google avatar

Yvonne G.

Yelp
This was my first time here. Everyone was so nice and friendly. Really appreciate the chicken wasn't salty or greasy. I had chicken, fries and hush puppies. The food was fine. Inside the establishment was very clean and nice to dine in.
google avatar

EunSik S.

Yelp
I have not been to What's Cluckin for 3 years and I was randomly craving their wings! Of course, I couldn't skip on their Monday Madness deal and went ahead to get my craving satisfied. This time, I ordered wings with chicago mild on side, large fries, fried okra with clukin' dust, and gizzard with chicago mild on food. Going to start with bad, but only 1 - if you are taking out or call/order ahead, they will get soggy :/ So, if possible, eat in the restaurant. Besides that, I would ask for sauce on side :) NOW ALL THE GOOD GOOD. Employees here are always so friendly and love them having smile on their face 3 years ago and this date. They have patio sittings; so, on a good weather - you should definitely sit out and enjoy some fried chicken/catfish, etc. Interior is filled with amazing paints and spacious for a solo meal or group gathering. Okay, back to food, the portions are fairly huge and especially wings being $1 on Mondays (as of 1/29/24), I paid less than $30 for 3 people! It's rare to find a restaurant where 1 person meal being less than $10. Of course, I'm talking before tip. I enjoyed the fried gizzards, but since I asked for sauce on food, fried coating was all soggy; so, that was disappointing. Besides that part, gizzards were fresh and tasty. I would ask for cluckin' dust with it next time :) Of course, wings were super good with and without the chicago mild, my favorite was their Fried Okra with Clukin' dust! HOLY CRAP - so good! Best one I've tried so far!! Also, the portion of Fried Okra AND large fries were plenty. We were stuffed. My craving has been satisfied and they proved they're my favorite fried chicken spot - well, non-korean fried chicken lol.
google avatar

Zerenity W.

Yelp
They have good catfish and for the many times I have been here I have had a pretty good experience. However, I always have an issue when I request clucking dust on my food. I am expecting it to be on all of my food and not just sprinkled on top. If I have 3 pieces of fish what happens to the piece that is underneath? I asked for a side and instead she just took my food to the back (without gloves) and added more which in turn still didn't give me what I asked for.

Madilyn S.

Yelp
Stop by today. Please tell me business either moved or renovation is taking place!!!
google avatar

Steve R.

Yelp
Another run-of-the-mill fried chicken place. The catfish was actually better than the chicken. Very limited side dishes. No veggies. No rolls. No return visit.
google avatar

Sharon S.

Yelp
The VALUE at this place is insane! For a 12 piece chicken mix I had enough to feed at least 4 people! Placed the order online and within 20 minutes food was ready to pick up. The meat is incredibly juicy and the skin had a satisfying cronch. I tried it with the Cluckin Spice, I would skip if you don't like things too salty, flavor from chicken alone is plenty enough. Fries were very average but the perfect combo to the strong tasting chicken! I want to come back and try all the different fried seafood selection as well :)
google avatar

Kristal W.

Yelp
I have been looking for a fried chicken spot for what seems like forever. I have finally found one. The chicken was very flavorful and the filet was really good too. I didn't order any sides. I don't eat fried food much but when I do it's usually fish or chicken. I'll definitely be back and tell my friends and family.
google avatar

Jerry W.

Yelp
To begin, the fried chicken is outstanding. Though it is not quite as good as my wife's, it is still better than any of the fast alternatives. The skin was crisp and tasty, though a touch on the salty side but that's a preference issue. The meat itself was tender, moist and delectable. The French fries were a bit on the limp side but had good flavor. Also the fried mushrooms were tasty as well. All in all, this is our new go to place for chicken when I can't talk my wife into making it for us. For the record, I do most of our cooking, so it's a rare occasion when I ask. I'm the cook and she's the baker. It's weird but it works for us! If you haven't checked this place out yet, you need to try it. You won't regret it.

Jonathan R.

Yelp
Why have the open sign on, say you are open online, hours on door say yours open but when I try to go in it's closed. I guess I will just have to find another spot to support. Bummer because I really wanted to try this chicken, drove from waxahachie to try it and it was closed.
google avatar

Aisha C.

Yelp
I love their fried chicken, shrimp, catfish, livers, fried okra and fries!! It's so hard to choose what to get. They also have lunch specials!! Check them out!!
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
Ordered the 5 piece shrimp and catfish fillet along with large fries. Shrimp and cat fish were cooked perfectly! Both were crispy and pretty good sized. Good flavor with their Cluckin spice on both. The fries are thin cut but could've been cooked just a bit longer. They were still pretty good though. Service was good and didn't have to wait long for the order.
google avatar

Levy C.

Yelp
My wife is a fried chicken fan, so we she read about What's Cluckin in the DMN we had to check them out. Wow we were pleasantly surprise that the review matched our opinion too. The measure of a good restaurant is would we go back and the answer is Yes for the reasons listed below; 1. The best fried chicken we have had in years. 2. The price is right and maybe "under" price compared to their competition. 3. The owners attitude for good customer service. This is not a quick serve place. All the food is cooked to order so be prepared to wait your 20 minutes. Be sure to order a few items that are not listed on the display board like the cold slaw and onion rings. We did not try the variety of sauces they offer cause we like our chicken plain. We ate inside because they have a few tables available but next time we will call ahead and get it to go.
google avatar

Matthew I.

Yelp
Ordered lemon pepper flat wings very OVERLY SEASONED. Chicken tasted masked in season. Had a nasty smell. As a child growing up in Chicago. I've tasted enough spoiled chicken. That I know when chicken is spoiled. I WILL NEVER eat here again. I had every intentions of bringing it back. Wife didn't want it kept in the house. Very Disappointed!!!!
google avatar

Shontina K.

Yelp
Everyone knows Chicago by their Fried Chicken Wings and Pizza Puffs!! OMG this is my NEW favorite place that gives me a piece of home (Chicago) with a slice of Heaven! The restaurant is very clean and they are following all Covid-19 regulations. Mask required, social distancing and hand sanitizer provided. My favorite are the wings!!!! Hot, mild, salt and pepper with a slice of bread and fries!! Stop by or call your order in for pickup!! You will NOT be disappointed!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
google avatar

Darrell R.

Yelp
Ok got the two piece fried fish with fries. Now the fish was flavorful and fresh which I love ...but you gotta make your own tartare sauce. It's not hard and would add so much flavor and more sales! will be back Tks for the delicious food!
google avatar

Tiffany W.

Yelp
This was, by far, the best experience I had during my trip to Dallas. We went on a Saturday afternoon and ordered the special. 24 wings and a large fry for $29.99. The cashier was super nice! We also ordered a red velvet cake cup. He took our order and we sat and waited for about 10min and our food came out hot and fresh. This chicken reminds me of Chick A Sea from back home in Bad Newz! So good. I'm not a fan of the mild sauce, but I'm not a Chicago native either. Texas Pete hit on these wings just fine! The fries were good! The cake was good, but the layers are so thick, it needs more icing (respectfully). It wasn't super sweet. It was perfect. Just needs more icing ! I'm so glad I don't live here because this would be a daily visit for me. This chicken is good, y'all!

Robert H.

Yelp
This was half of a large chicken liver. I had already eaten half of it. Delicious and cooked just right. The only thing that would have made it better was mashed potatoes and either brown or white gravy. Next time I will get them to go and have gravy and mashed waiting for them at home.

Yelp
What's Cluckin is were it is at if you want some southern fried chicken. Call ahead and pick it up hot. This stuff is some of the greatest fried yardbird I've ever eaten. You can eat it in and it's always clean with TV's that are playing sports. I have eaten it all and cannot find anything that is not southern good. When I was growing up in GA, on Fridays I would go with my dad to get fried chicken at Church's. We would walk up to the window and we would sit around and wait. This place brings back those memories. The food you order comes packed in brown bags so that when you unpack it like a true southerner. #1 spot for Fried Chicken, Hands down!!! On Park across from Cowboy Chicken. Support this amazing spot!!!

Yelp
Hands down, without a doubt my favorite restaurant! I have been a loyal customer now for many years, as far back as when they were at a different address when it was called Chicago Chicken Coup. From the moment you walk in the door you feel welcomed and for me personally, I now feel like family! I'm even called "fam" or "cousin"! The owners are simply the best! They always check on customers to make sure they have everything they need and ensure that the food is of the highest quality. I drive 25min just to come here to eat because the food is that incredible. I've tried a myriad of things on the menu, and if I had to recommend anything, the tenders with mild sauce is where it's at! Trust me, you won't regret it! In addition, go for the breaded okra. It's the best okra I've ever had. If you're looking for a peaceful distraction, as a guy I enjoy the programming on the TVs. It's usually tuned in to some sporting event which I enjoy. I've also heard some peaceful music which is a nice touch. I truly can't say enough great things about What's Cluckin. I am without a doubt going to remain a lifelong customer.
