"England’s coaching inns are the ancestors of today’s pubs, and the Wheatsheaf is as true as can be to the classic, slightly utopian ideal of a public house as a welcoming place for a drink, a delicious bite to eat, and an attractive, comfortable room for the night (plus decidedly non-pub amenities like a spa in the garden and shooting or fishing outings)." - The MICHELIN Guide

We have been visiting this pub for Sunday lunch for many years now. It is the only pub my husband actually enjoys a Sunday roast (he says home cooked is better). However, on the last two occasions we visited, the food has been mediocre to poor. One of the stand-up dishes was the belly pork. Perfectly crispy on top, jammy and caramelised underneath. Now they have taken to rolling up the pork belly so isn’t cooking and rendering correctly. The roast beef was always perfectly pink and tender. Unfortunately, this week I had to send my meal back. The beef was well done, in thin slices and tough as old boots. The second lot, well better, was still poor and had little taste to it. In fairness, the dog enjoyed it though! In fact, the entire meal lacked flavour and was under seasoned. We all left saying that it reminded us of a cheap carvery meal you’d have a chain pub, but with a bill twice the size. Normally, the place is heaving with people, and I very much expected it to be the same, particularly as it was Father’s Day. But it wasn’t and now I’m beginning to realise why. I’m not sure if it’s a change of chef, but it’s now lost favour as a go to pub. Very sad indeed.

We visit the Cotswolds often but have never stayed at the Wheatsheaf before. We will definitely be staying here again. ||The place itself is fantastic. The rooms are beautiful and very well appointed. The staff are excellent. We were looked after extremely well in particular by Dale and Harriet. ||The food was exceptional in both quality and quantity. Breakfast was really good. ||In short we would have no hesitation in recommending The Wheatsheaf to everybody.

We stayed at the Wheatsheaf for 2 nights for our wedding nearby. We hired the private dining room for a family dinner the night before the wedding. The food was delicious & service was great. The rooms are full of character & lots of special touches like the Dyson hairdryers & treats. The staff were so helpful & friendly. Would definitely recommend it. I’d love to go back in the summer to make the most of the beautiful garden area.

Before i get to the not so good part, this establishment and the local area is beautiful. The Wheatsheaf Inn came highly recommended by friends and family and i can understand why. If you are looking for a romantic setting away from the tourist jungle in Bourton-on-the-Water, this is the place to stay. ||Unfortunately, we were unable to sample any of the food from the restaurant, which i was told was very good, but the room was fantastic (for the most part). I understand we stayed in the ‘bigger boutique, which felt very luxurious as soon as we walked in. The staff had also turned on the dyson air blade before we came to ensure the room was cool, which was a nice touch. ||The kingsize bed, dressed in high quality linen, was extremely comfortable. The room didn’t feature a bathroom as such, with a separate w/c in the corner, with the bath (big enough for 2) and his/hers sinks were located in the open plan bedroom area. Again, these were high quality and the toiletries were very nice.||Please be aware, the website states all rooms have a rainfall shower. We were disappointed to learn that the room we stayed in did not have a shower which meant we had to run numerous baths throughout our stay which was inconvenient.||The smaller details in this room were top notch. There was a Nespresso machine next to the bed and a variety of pods to choose from. The mini bar, which we didn’t sample, was stocked with some nice drinks and snacks. You can see that a lot of thought and investment has gone into these rooms BUT it wasn’t all good …..||We had arrived late and decided to put on a film to see out the evening. Before going to bed (just after 11pm) we learnt the toilet was blocked and filled up to the brim after one flush (and wouldn’t clear). The guest book said the Inn closed at 11pm and guests should call the night porter for any out of hours emergencies. We called the number provided 4 times with no answer and left a message on the last try. Our call was never retuned. My girlfriend and i were then unable to go to the toilet for the rest of the evening/over night which was extremely unpleasant. ||When we checked out, we mentioned this to a member of staff and he said he had heard our message but forgot to get back to us. Apparently the Night Porter was on holiday too!! - Amateur stuff to be honest. Not what you'd expect from a place like this ||We were also offered compensation but were told go through Expedia to claim it, which after speaking to them was pennies compared to the inconveniences we experienced during out stay and would barely cover breakfast. ||As i mentioned above, this place is lovely and we would definitely stay here again but the service needs to be improved. We are planning to spend more days in the area later this year and will probably make this our base so hopefully the’ve taken the feedback on board by then .. Will pack some rubber gloves and a plunger just in case though!

We had a great stay at the Wheatsheaf Inn. The staff were so friendly, and the food was exceptional. We had the Sunday roast and it was faultless. The only reason that I have given 4 stars, not 5 is due to our room being downstairs. A beautiful room, so much space and great facilities, but the noise from the room above stopped us sleeping at times. Having said that, we would love to go back, but upstairs!!

Just back from a wonderful weekend staying here with my husband and our dog. My dog even received a little welcome package!! Too cute!! The rooms are stunning, so comfortable and the bath was fabulous. We had dinner both nights, so much choice, great quality and all the staff were very attentive. Will return for sure!! Highly recommend!!

We loved staying here, despite having a 3 years old and a dog we still enjoyed the cosy and luxurious room, lovely walks and the food was just fabulous, we ended up having most meals here and had to try everything on the menu, especially enjoyed the puddings- definitely try their version of bread and butter pudding (if you like this kind of pudding)! Also it’s perfect location and very friendly! I can only imagine how magical the pub is in winter - so cosy! Thank you and looking forward to staying here again!

The Wheatsheaf is located in one of the most charming Cotswold villages: North Leach. The inn itself is lovely; the rooms comfortable and very well appointed with luxurious linen and bath accessories. The breakfast is generous and tasty. Excellent coffee. The service seemed a bit strained due to understaffing but very warm and helpful. Don’t miss the garden for a drink at least. I visited in May but am sure it would be a welcome stay anytime.
