Wheelhouse Review - Downtown - Boston - The Infatuation

"Wheelhouse is a small Downtown counter-service spot that serves breakfast sandwiches in the morning and burgers the rest of the day until 3pm. The burgers are sloppy, cheesy messes in a good way, and they usually have 8 to 10 of them on the menu, including lamb and veggie options. If you work Downtown, add this to your lunch rotation, because sometimes sloppy and cheesy is exactly what you want." - Dan Secatore

Yelp
Jake and the Wheelhouse crew catered our family reunion in Otis, MA. Working out the details with Jake was easy and effortless. Our guests LOVED the food truck, crew, presentation and especially the food!! The farm fresh dishes were beautiful, creative and delicious- the brisket was to die for! My family is still talking about it. I would definitely use the Wheelhouse Farm team again!

Yelp
We were so lucky to have had Wheelhouse Farm Truck cater our autumn wedding this past October, and it was 100% everything we could have hoped for. We knew when it came to the food, we wanted 1) a farm-to-table experience with pure, delicious, locally-sourced ingredients, 2) an elegant but down-to-earth seasonal menu, and 3) plenty of options for our vegan and celiac guests as well as our meat-lovers. Bonus points if our caterers were a pure pleasure to work with. The instant we spoke to Jake about our day, we knew we hit the jackpot. From the beginning, it felt like working with a friend. Jake was open, flexible, professional and generally awesome. Since we planned our wedding in about 10 weeks, I can't tell you what a load off it was to have the catering piece taken care of. Jake and the team were super on-point and helpful with our semi-DIY plans, and they couldn't have been friendlier through the entire process. Oh! And the food was SO good, SO perfect to what we envisioned and our guests have had nothing but highest compliments. I often get cravings for that meal... just delicious. As a side note, before we met in person we visited the Wheelhouse truck at the Amherst Farmer's Market in an impromptu detour and the team was so warm and welcoming to us, having us sample their amazing arepas and chatting with us about our upcoming plans. These are just great people doing great things, making special food and spreading love. Honestly, we couldn't want more than that.

Yelp
If you're looking for locally grown, seasonal food for your next event, I can't recommend Wheelhouse highly enough. My partner and I booked them for our wedding in Lee, MA in September 2016. We were one of their first few weddings, and worked together to design a menu to be served family style to our guests. The food and service was exceptional. Each course was delicious, beautifully presented, and the portions didn't leave anyone hungry. There were several guests with dietary restrictions that Wheelhouse catered to as well. We also had charcuterie, cheeses, and a few tasty apps that were on point. The price per person was really reasonable considering the excellent quality, and in comparison to many other caterers that offer locally-sourced, seasonal menus. The guys who run the business are also just awesome and a pleasure to work with. As far as coordination and communication goes, both Jake and Will were responsive to our questions via email and Skype (we were planning our Massachusetts wedding from out of the country). Beyond that, they have great energy and their servers were SO wonderful too. I'm not exaggerating when I say that having these people be a part of our wedding celebration added to the joy and overall atmosphere of the day. Wheelhouse prepped food in the kitchen at our venue and served from their gorgeous, all wood mobile kitchen. It was the best of both worlds: laid back, down-to-earth vibe, with high-quality, locally-sourced food served to our tables. We are super bummed we didn't ask our photographer ahead of time to take photos of the food because it was so memorable. Just the best experience possible overall!

Yelp
We tried to work with Wheelhouse for our wedding in June 2020. At first, we were very excited to work with them and they were quite responsive. Unfortunately, when we mentioned we wanted to do a tasting before booking, their attitude soured. Every wedding planner I've encountered says to do a tasting before booking! Also, when we sent them a sample menu of some ideas we were interested in, their response was "All of those custom menu requests are time intensive and expensive" and "we are not the right caterer for you." Were they expecting to choose the food at our wedding for us? And they mentioned how much interest they have for our weekend; our guess is they must have gotten a more lucrative contract. It made us feel both unimportant and pressured. Would not recommend.

Yelp
Selecting Wheelhouse as my wedding caterer was the best decision I could have made. They checked in with me once a month for the 3 months prior to my wedding, ensuring any changes were addressed. The menu was superb and every guest thoroughly enjoyed every dish. Their food is unique yet appealed to the broad range of guests in attendance. And I can't say enough about their extraordinary staff. When the cake didn't arrive Stephanie checked in with me and was on it! She singlehandedly managed to get the cake delivered on time and saved the day! Obviously I can't say enough about this wonderful catering company. Every person in attendance who is getting married in the future plans on using them. Anyone who knows someone who is getting married in the future has recommended them. I highly recommend them to you. They will go above and beyond to ensure your day is special.

Yelp
Jake and the team at Wheelhouse we're fun to work with for our backyard wedding in Easthampton. Jake and his team created, cooked, and served a delicious feast for our guests, and the food was consistently mentioned as a highlight of the evening. The watermelon salad was a personal and fan favorite, particularly given the record setting heatwave. Despite the heat, each item on our custom menu was presented beautifully with unique combinations of flavors and locally sourced ingredients. We and our guests were blown away. We can't thank the Wheelhouse team enough for working with us to make our wedding day special.

Yelp
We cannot say enough good things about Wheelhouse: They were a joy to work with both in planning our wedding and the day of. They made our small, unusual venue work well. Their food was incredible. They are so dedicated to local food and so legit in their connection to local farms. They were so on point with in creating a menu for us based on our vague ideas about what it would be. More than all this they were thoughtful, genuine, and generally good people. Not being able to sample the food that was on the menu was a leap of faith on our part, but our confidence in Wheelhouse was rewarded by their incredible food and expert coordination. The Food: We chose Wheelhouse because of their commitment to local food, but for the benefit of everyone else reading our review I'll describe how delicious it was. Bottom line - they won rave reviews from our foodie friends as well as our meat- and- potatoes family. In our experience, wedding catering usually means sad, bland vegetables and dry meat. Not only was their beef juicy and full of flavor, but all of the vegetables tasted so fresh and the flavors of each one came through. Neither of us really like cauliflower, but we LOVED the cauliflower dish they made. For our meat dishes, it was this excellence in produce that really gave an added dimension to the dishes (in addition to cooking the meat just right). AND when they had to bring in an outside vendor (like the pies that we wanted for dessert) they really chose the best around. That being said their initial cheese selection for our appetizers was underwhelming, but they were completely willing to work with us on this and the final version day of was fantastic. Organization/ Logistics: They were by far the most organized vendor at our wedding, despite feeling the most small-scale and personable. Our wedding was very bespoke/ a la carte/ choose your own adventure, and they followed us effortlessly through all of the details, weird requests, and special considerations of our wedding. They never came to us with setbacks or complications. They were really good about checking in, and structured our interactions in the months leading up to the wedding so that we were all on the same page with the many, many details to keep track of. Day-of Logistics: They were so unobtrusive and friendly, despite unpleasant surprises from other vendors. When our rental company failed to deliver some items and put others in odd places, they helped pick up the pieces. When our venue went back on its word as to where they could put their cooking tent they rolled with it. When we decided day-of to hold our photoshoot where they needed to work they were so good about working through it. Personal touches: It's no coincidence that they gave us exactly what we wanted in terms of food. They paid close attention when we told them our preferences were and were genuinely attuned to our likes and dislikes. During the planning process I mentioned how I always go back for seconds at wedding buffets. Based on this aside, they gave me a HUGE platter of food, which we both found to be so touching, special, and funny. Tipping: Their guideline to us was that if we were pleased with the job they did we should tip 10-20%. Not totally unheard of but worth mentioning since different caterers do it differently.

Yelp
This little food stand sells fresh, local sourced, organic arepas, pocket sandwiches made of cornmeal and stuffed with a variety of extremely tasty fillings. These a breakfast arepa filled with fried egg, kale, cheddar, spinach pesto, and a choice of either bacon or sausage that clearly ranks as the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had. My wife had the same (sausage) and agreed with my assessment. For lunch and later there is also an arepa stuffed with barbecue style pork, with braised greens, pickled onions and crema. My wife had that one and was kind enough to give me a bite ... wonderful and highly original. I had the shredded chicken, pickled onion, slaw and yoghurt sauce, which I grudgingly shared with my wife ... also very original and very tasty. They also have a grilled cheese arepa and baked parsnip or carrot and beet fritters, but these will have to wait until next time. This little eatery can be found at the Amherst, MA Farmer's Market on each Saturday from 8AM until 2PM when the market closes, and on every Tuesday at the Springfield farmer's market at Forest park from 12:30-6:00PM. They can also be hired for parties and so forth. This food is worth a trip to the center of Amherst or Forest Park, even if you do not generally visit the farmer's market. Do have a sandwich; you'll be an instant convert.

Yelp
Amazing Food Truck and People. My sister hired Wheelhouse Farm Truck to cater my graduation party- food truck style. It was great fun for the guests to go up to the window and order from a menu that we were able to help create. Beyond the experience, the food was phenomenal. We had several people with different food allergies at the party and everyone was able to eat and enjoyed the food to boot. The folks behind Wheelhouse Farm Truck were friendly and helpful. Our overall experience with Wheelhouse Farm Truck was top notch.

Yelp
Don't even know where to start with Wheelhouse. This team is a bunch of rock stars. They are so passionate about their local food and are super embedded in the community - I was absolutely set on working with them for our wedding rehearsal celebration. They brought their stylish truck to New City Brewery and we had a delicious taco feast. They were so patient with and kind to our guests, and Jake was a dream to work with along the way. It was honestly just such a simple process. I understood the pricing from the start and it was extremely reasonable, the menu was unique and personalized for us, and the ingredients are locally sourced from a handful of farms this crew can name off the top of their heads. I've even been in touch with Jake about some personal career moves because he's a total bad-ass corporate defector and I want to be him when I grow up. If you don't need a food truck or catering for an event, find this truck for lunch or attend one of the farm dinners they host. Don't miss out.

Yelp
We hired Wheelhouse farm to cater our wedding from their food truck and we couldn't recommend them more! We had never tried their food til the day of our wedding but I just fell in love with the concept and the local aspect so I booked them immediately. The communication with Jake leading up to the wedding was superb and put everything at ease! Jake even has a hard cider project (Artifact Cider) and gave us a great deal on a number of cases of the cider for the wedding, so delicious!! The event was around 80 people and we were really impressed with how seamlessly and quickly they were able to serve everyone (we had guests go up to the truck table by table and pick whatever they wanted from the pre-arranged menu). The food was incredible and so fresh, they were also incredibly accommodating of dietary restrictions etc. We really couldn't recommend them more and we received endless compliments from guests! And best of all they did everything with a smile and a great attitude!
