Hip all-day breakfast spot offering an extensive menu of sweet & savoury pancakes, plus cocktails.
"As fun as spending your Saturday morning in the gluten-free aisle screaming “THREE BLOODY QUID FOR A SCOTCH PANCAKE?!” is, brunch at Where The Pancakes Are is better. It’s entirely dedicated to the best of the beige foods—cinnamon-poached pineapple pancakes, hot honey and cheese dutch babies, warm churro chocolate cookies. And you can get any of them with their 3-in-1 batter, which is also vegan. On sunny days taking your mimosa carafe and sea salted caramel stack to one of this Southwark spot's outdoor benches is the move." - heidi lauth beasley, sinead cranna
"Where The Pancakes Are is erm, where the pancakes are. More specifically, this is where you’ll find some of the best buttermilk batter pancakes in London. The Southwark cafe’s buckwheat, buttermilk-fermented pancakes are topped with everything. Pulled beef. Cinnamon-poached pineapple. Rose harissa shakshuka. Basil marshmallow. The lot. Its cocktail list is pretty decent too and if you think pancakes aren’t the kind of meal that can blend brunch into dinner, think again." - jake missing
"You don’t have to be Poirot to figure out that this place serves pancakes, but what the name won’t tell you is that this is one of the nicest brunch spots in town. Open from 9am daily, they specialise in a buttermilk batter that makes their pancakes extra fluffy, and you can match your stack with everything from forest berries to poached eggs with smoked salmon. Located five minutes from London Bridge, they’ve got some nice outdoor seating. FYI, there is a slight slope leading up to the entrance from Southwark Bridge Road, but you can also access it through Flat Iron Square, incline-free." - heidi lauth beasley
"Pancakes. That’s it. That’s all this place sells. And we fucking love it. We might even move to Southwark Bridge Road just so all of our foreseeable mornings are spent saying things like “we’ll have the poached pear caramel pancakes with a side of bacon”. The buttermilk batter is, frankly, magical and we’re even into their eggy options. A carafe of mimosas alongside? Why the hell not. " - heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna
"In the battle of crying child vs pancakes, a three-stacker wins every time. So Where The Pancakes Are may be your new favourite place. There's enough room to comfortably bring a pushchair in, a couple of high chairs available, and a children’s menu that includes enough pancake topping options that it could double as a bedtime story come 6pm (is that when babies sleep?). And if the only way your mate’s picky two year-old—sorry, 24 month-old—will eat asparagus is if it’s sandwiched between some fluffy pancakes, then this Southwark spot is the perfect restaurant for that too.
