Casual, brick-lined eatery offering a Nepalese menu of masala wings, dumplings & skewers.
"While In Kathmandu, a Nepalese restaurant in Ridgewood that makes excellent momos, just reopened for takeout and delivery. They’re open every day (except Tuesdays) for lunch and dinner service, and you can place your order online." - hannah albertine
"What It Is: A cash-only Nepalese restaurant in Ridgewood with great dumplings and a backyard Perfect For: Casual Weeknight Meal, Outdoor/Patio Situation While In Kathmandu is a Nepalese place in Ridgewood that we’ve been meaning to check it out for a little while now, mostly because we wanted to eat their momos. Momos are Nepalese dumplings, and the ones here come in a pool of spicy tomato sauce. We stopped by for dinner and got the ones with the pork, and this is now officially a place where we’d like to eat once a week. The Verdict: If you live in the area, this should be one of your go-to spots when you either want to get dumplings or eat outside. So, all the time." - hannah albertine, bryan kim, katherine lewin, hillary reinsberg, chris stang, matt tervooren
"Like the taco momos at Momo Crave, the dishes at While in Kathmandu in Ridgewood are, for the most part, fusion-y. You’ll find fish and chips with masala fries, and jerk-style chicken choila. But we also like the jhol momos served in a thick broth, or a khaja set, with puffed rice, grilled eggs, and chicken prepared a few different ways. The cash-only spot is a neighborhood staple where most things cost less than $25, so keep it in mind for a very chill, highly satisfying meal. And if it’s nice out, eat in the backyard." - willa moore, sonal shah, bryan kim
"From a Ridgewood local whose father runs another spot (Nepalese Indian Restaurant) down the street, While In Kathmandu is a neighborhood clubhouse catering to those who’d rather not spend over $30 on dinner. The menu is Nepali, but in a fusion-y sort of way, with a whole “New York x Kathmandu” section featuring items like masala fries and fish and chips. Always start with an order of momos served in a pool of thick soup." - bryan kim, neha talreja, willa moore, will hartman
"A fusion of Nepalese, Indian, and Italian cuisines,, While in Kathmandu recently expanded its dining area deep into the backyard. The star of the show is probably the creamy fettucine alfredo, which emulsifies a rich geography of cheeses and gives it a Nepali spice twist. Other compelling fusions include the “not a taco,” which packs charred chicken onto a rolled-up roti, and the masala-flavored fries. Classic Nepalese dishes are also available." - Robert Sietsema, Andrew Karpan
