"A distillery known for its single malt whiskey smoked over mesquite fire."

"Whiskey Del Bac is an American single malt distilled in Tucson, Arizona. Using the Scottish whiskey-making process as a model, the distillery smokes their barley over a fire of local mesquite wood instead of peat as is done in Scotland. They produce four whiskeys, with flavor notes ranging from toffee, caramel, and oak to white chocolate." - Travel + Leisure Editors

I am not a whiskey drinker but it was a birthday party and was invited. I thoroughly enjoy it. As far as the tasting wow. I found that the best one is the 2024 special made whiskey. Yep the most expensive was my pick. It’s great tour try it. They missed the point on the chocolate bar part but maybe it will get back on it.

Take the tour! Even if you have done other distilleries, the story and uniqueness of Whisky Del Bac is worth the journey. They put their stamp on a an otherwise muddied world of whisky and set themselves apart with the various, limited expressions.

Any tour of their facility and tasting of their products is well spent time. Their knowledge of the process is outstanding, and the products are of high quality. You will be welcomed by competent employees and together with the crew we felt very well taken care of. Thank you! Tusen takk!

Loved the environment. Loved the tour. Very informational. I did it with visiting family. Which helped ease the tension of visiting a small town that they never heard of. This added authenticity to the whiskey product. Which is why my parents (liquor collectors) left with 4 bottles. Not including the 2 i left with. Whiskey is becoming a huge thing in the midwest. I would recommend locations to be authentic to this part of the US. Adds value. This all started with a friend sending me a bottle when i lived in illinois. After moving here. This led to the tour. With me inviting my parents to the tour. Leading to the following visit with friends next week.

The whiskey tasting was a wonderful experience! The cozy and family-like atmosphere made it feel relaxed and welcoming. I especially enjoyed the chance to try and purchase a unique whiskey. The tasting area was beautifully set up, and the small group size allowed for meaningful conversations without feeling overcrowded. A fantastic experience that I highly recommend!

Google
I loved this distillery. The tour was excellent. Carl was very knowledgeable. The distillery was very clean. The tasting was great. Each whiskey had a unique and distinctive flavor. Loved them all. Thank you for a great experience.

Google
Weirdest experience we have ever had. In and out with a tasting in under 10 minutes…total waste of money. The hostess was completely unwelcoming and had no knowledge of the products. We selected the chocolate pairing which clearly has 4 pairings (4 tastings matched with 4 chocolates) and she argued with us the it only has 3 whiskeys with 4 chocolates and put them in the wrong order anyway. The pours were basically an eye dropper worth of alcohol and she just stood there and stared at us while we did the tastings. We were in the building maybe 10 minutes and should have just left the second we walked into the door. Worst $25 I ever spent and the most awkward experience we have had when traveling the country visiting distilleries.

Google
Take the tour and tasting! You won't regret it! Had such a great time and was a great way to spend my birthday. Our tour guide made the experience so much fun and his easy going personality made you feel like you were hanging out with an old friend. Worth every penny, 20 out of 10 highly recommend!

Yelp
We went for a special event and had a great time. excited to go back for a happy hour. Everyone we met was great. Love the industrial feel of the place. Sampled some different single barrel malt whiskey's and loved them all.

Yelp
This place has a very chill vibe. It's in a warehouse so I wasn't sure I was in the right area, but inside is very cute! It's a very open space and if you're a whiskey drinker then you'll love the drinks that they have.

Corey S.

Yelp
Fun tour. Jeff was knowledgeable and entertaining. Leaned about the process. Had several tastings that I liked. Walked out with 2 bottles. 200 bucks.

Amanda C.

Yelp
Such a great activity for you and your friends or whisky lover! The tour is about an hour and Ian did a great job of teaching the history and the process. You get educated and get to taste some great single malts. Highly recommend!

Gretchen P.

Yelp
Tasty whiskey drinks and pours, and generous samples for those of us new to whiskey. Love that they have 2 in-house distillery cats, and the space is a cool warehouse vibe with a shop connected.

Cindy P.

Yelp
Comfortable and casual distillery with several different whiskeys that all had very unique flavors. The tour and tasting is $25 per person with an in depth tour of the operations and tasting afterwards. Our tour guide was very thorough, taking the group through the entire process from grain to product. They grind their own grain for the mash, something not many distillers do. He was very knowledgeable about the processes, happily asked and answered all questions and had a wonderful laid back personality. The cat followed us throughout the entire tour which is the reason you have to check off that you don't have cat allergies before purchasing tickets! The whiskey's are great! All are very unique with distinctive tastes and hug levels. It was hard to pick a favorite to try in the fourth tasting glass!!

Nicole B.

Yelp
I had no idea that such an interesting place was so close to home! We enjoyed our tour with Ian thoroughly; he was incredibly knowledgeable and guided us through the distilling process as well as the tasting with ease. Would recommend to anyone who would like to understand more about the whiskey distilling process or would just like to enjoy a night out!

Marc P.

Yelp
Really enjoyed this distillery tour that ended with a whiskey tasting. The first date that we tried to book as a party of two was sold out....so, try to book in advance. The tour was entertaining and informative, and the whiskeys were very tasty. I personally much preferred the Del Bac whiskeys here than I did the ones produced by St. Augustine Distillery (which we toured in Florida about a month prior), and ended up buying their Dorado in three sizes (a 750ml, a 200ml, and a 100ml).

Travis T.

Yelp
While I was in Tucson, I enjoyed a tour of the facility with founder Stephen Paul. They are located in an industrial area right off the I-10. Whiskey Del Bac makes a single-malt whiskey and started in 2011. They use mesquite instead of peat in the malting process which makes their spirits unique to the Sonoran desert. I learned about Whiskey Del Bac when I was given a small sample bottle last year at an event. I really enjoyed how smooth this whiskey was when I first tasted it. While on the tour, Stephen took time and showed me around the facility while explaining their process. He has such a deep passion for the southwest and gave me some tips of places to check out while in Tucson. The tour ended with sampling Whiskey Del Bac's three featured spirits - Classic, Dorado, and El Pueblo. I took home a bottle of the Dorado. It's a pretty amber color and has a nice smooth smokey flavor to it. You can buy Whiskey Del Bac at many local marketplaces here in the Valley. I highly recommend booking a tour and getting to know more about one of our great local distilleries if you are in the area.

Yelp
Wonderful tour and great whiskey tasting ! Very knowledgeable tour guide. Thank you for a wonderful time!

Gene T.

Yelp
Hard to find! Once there the person that helped me was delightful. Also met a sweet dog and a cat! Whiskeys were explained and purchased by me! Tasted them and fell in love with the Dorado! Smooth flavorful, a deep flavor that is not simple but delightful. The description says: ...nose of tobacco and chocolate. Giving campfire embers... and sweet toffee on the palate. Not sure I would describe it that way, but it is good!

Jocelyn S.

Yelp
Taking trip to the distillery and store front is always a good idea. While you can buy around town at local bottle stops going to the storefront has other things to purchase. I like the flask size bottles and gift sets. Follow their newsletter for special releases. You can also sign up for tours and tastings. Over all a wonderful local family business. And did I mention the Whiskey..yum!

Aurie C.

Yelp
Interesting choice for a retail location....the front door is not marked and if you are parking next to the freeway onramp you are in the right place. Once inside the lobby area for retail sales is a bit tight but the warm smiles from the father/daughter/cat/dog owners was nice. They have gift packages available that would be good to give anyone who likes a good ol'fashioned with locally made whiskey. These owners are so proud of their products and are not afraid to tell you how each of them came about and the differences between each. I was unable to take a tour because I came during the week but we may go back on a Saturday so we can see how it is all made. It is really neat that there is a distillery in Tucson. I feel strongly this would be an excellent cafe/gift shop in a different location with a little more space to lounge and take in the sights. Overall, I would visit again as I would like to see this local business grow.

Yelp
Incredible! I've loved Whiskey Del Bac for quite some time, so given the opportunity, I HAD to stop in. The Whiskey has a unique flavor, and every time I'm in Tucson, I try to grab a bottle of the Dorado American Single Malt whiskey. You can't get much more Southwest than this! The tasting room is open every day from 11-2. We stopped in about 12:30 with a party of four. The tasting included 5 different spirits, and we spent time walking through each one. So good! I really appreciated the time the distiller spent talking about each one and answering all our questions. We ended up leaving with a couple bottles and some swag. Like I said, Dorado is my favorite, but you can't go wrong with any flavor. This was well worth the stop!

Yelp
We moved back to Tucson in March and we're delighted to discover whiskey del bac! I've been following them on Instagram and will pop in when they have a new or special release. We've enjoyed most everything in their collection especially, Frontera and Normandie. Today we decided to pop in for a tasting of the new rye Sentinel and were impressed with the new tasting room and welcoming service! Ian was our host and gave us an excellent and informative tasting of the new Fall 2022 release and Sentinel. What a great experience! Ian was great to talk to, we also got to meet the owner! What a great experience!... they've definitely upped their game! Can't wait to come back with friends for a tour!

Yelp
My wife and I did the tasting & tour, and had a WONDERFUL time. Our tour guide was Luka. It was Luka's first tour and while he was nervous he had heart and did a great job. Janie (? I'm so sorry if that's not the spelling) assisted and was expertly knowledgeable about the distillation process and the two of them introduced us to the 5 whiskies we would taste at the end. The whiskies were excellent. We sampled the Classic, Dorado, Sentinel, Frontier, and Distillers cut. We had great seating and ambiance, and Luka made sure to ask our opinions and tastes of each of the whiskies. At the end, Janie gave us a Dorado Old Fashioned which was perfectly balanced and a great way to end the night. Would definitely do this again, and we're also interested in volunteering to bottle! Luka reminded us that happy hour is Fridays from 3-5pm, and I'm definitely going to be back.

Yelp
Great visit! Super friendly folks and great whiskey. The tasting room is intimate and has exactly the right vibe. This is a "don't miss!"

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Love, love, love!!!! The owners are so informed and able to educate the consumer on how the whiskeys are made and the varietals. This is a family-owned and run business, and there are also a dog and cat on site (yay!!!!). I'm not usually a whiskey drinker, but this whiskey is smooth. The amber color is beautiful, and the depth of flavor is incredible. Please, visit this local Tucson distillery if you can. You can also find it's products at fine retailers such as AJ's Fine Foods and Costco.

Terese W.

Yelp
what are incredible tasting we had at Del Boc. The whiskey is delish and loved the mesquite notes. Highly recommend!

Fernando R.

Yelp
Super informative, they love what they do and now I love what they make. This whiskey is unique, its just plain incredible.

Audrey M.

Yelp
A hidden gem in Tucson. We booked a tour and tasting today and very much enjoyed it. Learning the process was very interesting and informative. They also offer a 4 hour bottling volunteer opportunity and you'll earn a bottle of whiskey! They have a whiskey cat that is pretty funny and follows everyone around. The tasting area is beautiful. Very much enjoyed this. Purchased a whiskey barrel for the house!

Greer H.

Yelp
we walked in just to browse, and Carl welcomed us to join a tour and tasting. it was clear there was a lot of pride in the work, and we learned a lot! thanks Carl and the rest of the Del Bac crew!

Robert C.

Yelp
Discovered this place as part of a Yelp event and cannot wait to return. First it's great to support a local craft business that uses indigenous products that reflect the heritage of the community. The staff was knowledgeable about their products and took me through each offering highlighting the merits and flavors from each product. They also occasionally create limited run special offerings. If you're visiting Tucson, or local, this place should be on the short list. Even if you're not a big drinker still come by, have a chat, and maybe pick up a bottle for someone in your life who might enjoy.

Yelp
Whiskey del Bac is one of only 7 grain-to-bottle whiskey makers in the U.S. I tried their standard mesquite-smoked variety a few months ago, and was so impressed I took a bottle along on a weeklong canoe trip to share with my compatriots. They thought it was the equal of any of the Scotch whiskeys they brought. What I appreciate about it is the "cleanness" of the taste. I can't describe in more detail what it means, but it's the best way I can think of to describe it. Yesterday I showed up 30 minutes before they opened and stood in line for one of the limited release bottlings, their Winter variety with a heavier malt bill, extra smoke, and finished to 100 proof. I had a taste at the end of the line and it is wonderful! If you want to buy a bottle at a future such event, I suggest you get there early - it wasn't clear that the people that showed up later would have anything to purchase! Please support this local craft beverage maker. They are doing great work and deserve to prosper.

Marna K.

Yelp
We had a fantastic tasting experience here! The whiskey is wonderful, the space is set up well for tasting, and they have a distillery cat! It is definitely worth a visit and if you aren't sure about whiskey they even have small bottles you can purchase vs only full size. Give it a try!

Amanda P.

Yelp
This place is the definition of a gem. Great flavor and local. The whiskey is a perfect gift and they have great varieties. I would definitely recommend for gifts for men! Try the smoke flavor.

Andrew H.

Yelp
We love their whiskey and seek it out whenever we are in Phoenix so we had to stop by at the distillery. We have tried all of their smoky whiskeys, so they were kind enough to let us try their brandy barrel aged collection. All were excellent: smooth, full bodied, and flavorful whiskeys that are perfect neat. The tasting was free, which was a real treat, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. Ended up getting a bottle and will be back next time we are in Tucson.

L J.

Yelp
The tour is excellent and the guide is very knowledgeable. The tastings were excellent. Your whiskey is truly a treat!

Yelp
Hamilton Distillers is a special place and we're so lucky that they call Tucson home. You don't have to be a whiskey aficionado to appreciate the product. Just stopping in on one of their open tastings will show you the passion, dedication and care that goes into crafting their product. Hamilton distillers is locally owned and operated. While you can purchase bottles at local shops like Plaza Liquors, I recommend paying them a visit too. Father-daughter duo Stephen and Amanda Paul will welcome you with so much warmth. Tour the distillery, it's beautiful! Hear their story, it's amazing! So next time you're looking to discover another gem in the Old Pueblo head to Hamilton Distillers.

Armand A.

Yelp
It was great to be able tour Hamilton to learn about its unique malting processing and taste its products. If I lived locally, I would join the Bottling Crew in a minute. (Having said this, I would make the following additional comments: The distillery was breaking in a new tour guide who needed to do a lot more reading before leading tours. The more experienced guide was very knowledgable about whiskey and the distillery. It would be great to tour when the distillery is actually smoking its grain or to be able to taste the smoked grain. Most distilleries I have visited offer free tours. If the distillery is going to charge for its tour, it would be nice for it to throw in a tasting glass. I look forward to the time that Whiskey del Bac is all aged in conventionally sized barrels.)

Louie C.

Yelp
This place is just amazing! They are proud of their products, proud of the fact it's made right here in Tucson and it shows. But, they are such a down to earth crew.

Philip S.

Yelp
I'm glad to see a distillery open in Tucson. But the tour could be much more of an experience than it is. It took all of 5 minutes. The tasting seemed disorganized. No real discussion of the product. And the $20 fee for the tasting should be waived if you buy a bottle. They are certainly not pouring enough whiskey to justify the fee. But in the end the product is pretty good. I liked the classic better than the mesquite smoked versions.

Alex P.

Yelp
This was an interesting tour and end with some great sampling. Would recommend checking it out if the process of making whiskey interest you.

Mark B.

Yelp
I love this place! It's the only distillery in Tucson. I went for a private whiskey tasting, and Stephen showed our group the entire facility and explained tons about the distillation process. We adjourned to the tasting room and sampled the Classic, the Dorado, and the Clear. The Dorado is tasty - it's heavy on the mesquite smoke. Hamilton is definitely worth a visit and a tour. And they have cats!

Alex C.

Yelp
I recently volunteered to help out with bottling their whiskey (4 hour shift) and then they feed you AND give you a free bottle of whiskey! I recommend lending a hand, you'll need to follow them on Facebook or email to get the times. The people who work here are super friendly and fun. The whiskey is delicious to boot. All in all a great distillery!

Andrew S.

Yelp
what a gem....Talked to Franklin for a good bit...amazing stories pal...Fabulous Whiskey and great people at your distillery....

Ekta P.

Yelp
I definitely recommend going for a tour and tasting. The staff are all super friendly and knowledgable. They make the experience fun and interesting. The whiskeys are great and I hope to go back for a bottling event sometime soon. I will definitely purchasing some del Bac in the future!

Chris S.

Yelp
I was lucky enough to participate in the bottling crew where I labeled the bottles and other volunteers performed other tasks such as capping, applying plastic shrink wrap, and boxing. Was a very neat experience and very nice staff. I happily accepted my payment of a bottle of mesquite smoked whiskey for my services. Stephen was a great host. Love the dogs and cats too!

Ellie S.

Yelp
One of the coolest experiences I've ever had. Not only is Del Bac an incredible product, but the family behind it are extremely warm hearted and passionate about their customers. Lucky to have met them!
