Google
Cool vibe. Service was ok. Asked for a bourbon menu. The bartender said “no menu, we just have these”. Then he pointed to about 20 bottles of bourbon. Very disappointing selection. One would think if your establishment has “Whiskey” in the title, you would have a plethora to choose from. Also very overpriced. Paid for a single of Buffalo Trace, as much as a whole 750ml bottle costs.

Norman was such an entertaining bartender, Nick and Jose were cool bartender as well. This part was her home base when we were at the MGM. We recommend a visit to whiskey down.

After being in Las Vegas for work I was looking forward to visiting Whiskey Down for an Old Fashioned. I figured a classy looking whiskey bar would fit the bill perfectly. I was greeted quickly and I asked for a smoked old fashioned. The presentation was pretty good complete with a big clear ice cube, orange peel and a bar cherry, my cocktail smoked in front of me. I took my first sip and realized that the bar tender had no idea how to make the most classic of bourbon cocktails. This was a glass of bourbon, bitters and water. I was charged $26 for this cocktail plus tip. This is super expensive for a cocktail, let alone a cocktail made incorrectly. If your looking for a cocktail walk past this place!

Google
This is not a cigar lounge. This is bar which you can smoke a cigar. The selection is extremely limited. I’m here now; they had to search for a cuter and gave me regular matches to lite the well overpriced cigar. Very disappointed with MGM.

Google
We came last night and enjoyed our evening…tonight was a WILDLY different experience. Service was bad, waiting about 15 mins to order a drink at a slow point of the evening. I ordered an old fashion and my significant other ordered a Buffalo trace. On the menu the Buffalo trace was $17 and the old fashion with makers mark was $21. The server asked if we had an ice preference either on the rocks or with a big cube. We both chose a big cube and asked for a water each. When the bill came we were astonished that it was $60.69. We were up charged for the ice sphere $3 and the Buffalo trace was $21, being $4 more than the regular menu price. Now this would have been one thing but then we were charged $11 for two small casino waters!!! Not once did the waitress state these were at a charge and it wasn’t listed on the menu anywhere. To pay $30+ a person for two drinks is outrageous when the bill should have been significantly cheaper. Will not be returning. Picture for water size at $5.50 each.

I really wanted to love this place, and it was... fine. I think they started with a really good idea. However, there isn't a lot of separation from the casino floor, and that makes it hard to have much of an upscale feel. They had the standard range of bourbons, but nothing that really stood out. My Manhattan was very good, but they didn't have a lot of specialty drinks and my bartender seemed to be going through the motions. I have a video of the space on the Dine Drink Travel Vegas Youtube channel. Would I go back there for a drink? Yeah, absolutely, if I already happened to be in the MGM. Would I go out of my way to drink there? I would not. The experience just isn't that different from the standard casino bar.

Idk man they played Neil Young and death metal. Fun spot for drinks. Liz was great.

Google
Just returned from Vegas earlier this month. I stayed at a different property and still came into Whiskey Down every night. The vibe is always festive and the live music soothes the soul. Absolutely nobody on the strip can run a bar this busy like Victor. No waiting no frustration just good times. Victor is the reason I come to Whiskey Down. Always fun watching him create drinks people have never experienced. I paid over $100 in cab fare just to come to this place because I love the vibe!

Yelp
Inside the MGM Grand Hotel, off the casino floor. Located right next to the David Copperfield theater. I ordered a dark mojito for my wife, tasted ok, needed more sugar and too much lime. Chill dance music played in the background. The ambience is nice and dim. Bartenders and waitress was friendly.

Yelp
Just stopped in for a quick drink Hubs had a Manhattan - he really enjoyed it Ambiance is perfect for a whiskey bar Service was good

D Z.

Yelp
Service was abysmal. They do not have any bourbons worth mentioning basic things like Woodford. Denied when asked for a menu. $20 for a 1oz pour of Frey Ranch. I could buy a bottle instead. Save your money buy a bottle and drink it instead. Place was empty, even then the manager was holding up the bartender from serving us talking about some personal business while we stared and waited for them.

Yelp
Was really hopeful for this place because it looked nice from outside. However, when we sat down all open tables had used napkins. The waitress eye rolled us when we asked for a drink menu. She left for a few second to get one and returned with a booklet that only had one page in it even though we can see a huge wall full of multiple different whiskies. Oh and she never bothered to get the table cleaned off. But two stars because it is our fault for not knowing what to drink. We left in hopes that her night got better.

Yelp
Everything was terrible. Terrible whisky selection. Maybe the worst Old Fashioned I've ever had. However, 5 start to the solo singer/guitar player that was there. He was incredible.
google avatar

Yelp
Love that this place is open late and I can get a glass of good wine. Nice atmosphere and the service has always been friendly. Once we were there when a duo was playing, good set list. A reliably fun time!

Yelp
We stumbled upon this bar while walking to the monorail - we ended up staying for the amazing live music and great drinks. The bar itself is decorated in a way that feels like a sophisticated man cave. We had a blast! Glad we found this place by chance.
google avatar

Yelp
Great venue, plenty of seating inside, located just off the casino floor by the main entrance. Friendly servers that come to the table or you can order drinks from the bar. We came here for a drink before going to a show. As you can guess from the name, they have a good selection of whiskeys and it is a good place for an old fashioned.
google avatar

Rexie S.

Yelp
This place was another bar located in the MGM we usually stay at the signature's nearby. They were having a gala the night we came here so the bar was packed!! Service was slow because it was so busy ! They had a beautiful singer entertaining everyone as they mingled, we met some good people! Crazy what music and alcohol does.
google avatar

Alex K.

Yelp
It's a casino bar. The drinks are meh, by far the worst whiskey sour I've ever had, and the Moscow mule was horrible. Their premixed drinks are not good. I watched some guy jump on a table and that broke and made everyone laugh. Got a free Fiji water from it. Besides that, the singer and bar looks cool since it's at at mgm. But damn, it was honestly one of the top 5 worst bars I've been too.
google avatar

Yelp
Whiskey Down is an upscale bar on the floor of the MGM Grand casino. We grabbed a few cocktails on our way out one night. The room looked great, all dark wood and leather furniture. My old fashioned was made without much precision and appeared to be just bourbon poured on ice with cherries and an orange slice as garnish. It was far from the best old fashioned I've ever had but it was strong as hell. The bartender appeared to free pour about four ounces of bourbon in the glass so I wasn't complaining too much. Service was extremely short, verging on unfriendly. Prices are fairly high ($19) but not surprising given the location.
google avatar

Yelp
This place looks classy and fancy but don't let that intimidate you! Very laid back kind and welcoming! No reservation is required just walk on up and have a drink!! Service was a delight our bartender was friendly knowledgeable and made a excels recommendation when I wasn't quite sure what I wanted he made the perfect selection!!! Jose was amazing! He even gave some Vegas local scoop and recommended the MGM buffet to try which we will be going tomorrow! Thanks for making our experience phenomenal!! My whisky tonic was smooth and soooo well prepared! The ambiance is classy, fancy and fun but so laid back and welcoming. Can't wait to come back!!

Yelp
After a long day, it was so nice to find a place to unwind. The live music and table service was a delight. January is a slower month, so that was a bonus. Their selections were awesome and reasonable with their pours/prices. Thank you for a comfy place.
google avatar

Yelp
We just had drinks here, and it was pleasant and tasty. It was quiet and dark, which was a welcomed contrast to the gaming areas of the casino. Good service, good drinks--we'd return if someone wants to meet here.
google avatar

Dee K.

Yelp
Nice venue. Dark with lots of oak and high lighting, definitely a sophisticated atmosphere. I ended up here after L'Atelier for an after-dinner, pre-gambling cocktail, played a little video poker, won $300. I sat at the bar and it was busy, but the bartender was attentive and very helpful. The cocktail waitresses were friendly. Check out the bathroom, pretty fancy for a casino bar. Nice place to relax, kick back and enjoy a fancy cocktail.
google avatar

Yelp
While checking out MGM Grand, we stumbled upon Whiskey Down, a lounge with over 50 different types of whiskeys. It's a great place to enjoy a whiskey cocktail or whiskey on the rocks and a cigar. They don't have a cocktail menu so you must know what you want ahead of time. We enjoyed Old Fashioned. It was strong and quite delicious but quite pricey ($21 before tax and tip).
google avatar

Aaron E.

Yelp
Great old fashioned. Not particularly great service but it is very busy right now, so all good.

Richard B.

Yelp
Disappointing for me. Average selection at best. Mid shelf whiskies as top shelf. My bartender asked me what bonded whisky was when queried on their selection and could not make an old fashioned if his life depended on it. Maybe he was new this being in strip casino and all but you can get whiskey here at overinflated prices.

Yelp
Honestly the food is good and good people watching HOWEVER!! The rotating bar, Bartender was rude for no reason. I simply asked 2 questions, 1. Can I bring a bring a chair to the bar because it was 2 ppl in my party. And he YELLED (as if I asked 14 times) NO, you absolutely can not. . 2. I asked, (once I saw 2 seats available) can I take these? He YELLED AGAIN, NO, it's for my regulars.... ‍. Umm Okay. And the yelling was as if I had asked more than once. So I told the waitstaff.... They said he's a a Di*k..... so they know about his behavior. I was so Turned off.

Yelp
Big lounge on the floor of the MGM Grand close to the hotel lobby. Dropped by late Sunday night and found live music and a cute cocktail waitress named Jin. Tried the Whiskey Down special drink $14 it was tasty and strong. After downing it I was so lit I could have powered Fremont Street Lmao. The one problem here was there was no bar food available to soften the heavy hand of the bartender. My friend went to the food court and brought back pizza. Unfortunately the WD manager came over and said food was not licensed there and we would have to leave...really ? You didn't provide the food so why would it need to be licensed? Well even though the manager was a sad Karen this place was still fun to chill at. As an added bonus it's within stumbling distance to the hotel elevators :P

Yelp
Whiskey Down is a little lounge cocktail bar inside of MGM. They have a large whiskey bar. Good amount of seating if you want to just relax. Service was nice. Drinks came out fast. Whiskey In a Jar - $14 - Fruity whiskey cocktail in a mason jar. Not overly sweet. You can taste the whiskey in the back. Old Fashioned - $15 - Made as expected.

Yelp
Great service, good selection. Comfortable environment and knowledgeable staff. Will be going back, especially after our horrible experience @OakandIvy!

Yelp
This review is from several months ago. The atmosphere at Whiskey Down was amazing. We stop here before a show. Bartender was friendly and drinks were good. However, the cocktail waitress should absolutely NOT be working in the service industry. She was confrontational with several people in our group when they went to the bar to order drinks. This turned into a "blown up" loud argument. We had no problems placing an order with a server, but she didn't come to our table until we already got our first round of drinks from the bar. As we left the bar, she waved and gave us the middle finger. I could not believe how unprofessional and have never encountered anything like it before.

Yelp
This was my first stay at MGM grand and wanted to try this bar and I am left feeling very awkward. I'll start off with the positive. The drinks here are quite strong! So if you are looking for a strong drink to get you started that is a whisky or bourbon. This is definitely a good place to go! Awkward story time. I came here due to getting a complimentary drink for the place through myVEGAS. I got the slip and then the bartender recommended an old fashioned and then used my complimentary slip to pay for it. However, the bartender told us that this was not an option as the old fashioned is $16 (apparently) and the free drink is only for those under $14. We were given no menu or knowledge of the pricing of this and asked if we could just pay the remainder but the bartender was not having it and started giving us attitude. As it came to an impasse, the bartender gave up and said he will update it to a "free drink" item and rang up the coupons. We did felt bad and gave a $10 tip and wished him a happy holiday and he just huffed and ignored us. Mind you, we were the only ones he was serving as well. After this experience, I would recommend avoiding this place if you can and just head to the lobby bar. I would also hope that mlife would make it really clear that we have to ensure in how we use our free rewards. Either way, we do not appreciate the service we got and it was handled improperly at best.

Yelp
My husband and I were very excited to have drinks at this place after we saw KA Cirque de Soleil. First of all it took a considerable amount of time for a bartender to take our order. When he did, we asked for a drink menu. He responded there is none and offered no recommendations. He basically threw our drinks at us and then shooed us to a small corner of the bar and told us we were taking up too much space for other customers to come towards the bar and order. Nevertheless, other people were in that same space/section when we walked in and they were not told to leave. I definitely felt unwelcome and discriminated against at this bar. We will not be back. Drinks were also super watered down.
google avatar

Anthony B.

Yelp
Came to this bar and ordered two drinks. I was amazed that the bartender didn't know the brands of whiskey they carry. If I see it on the shelf, and the bartender looks then comes to me and says they don't carry that it's a problem. When I showed him, he got an attitude about it. Terrible customer service! And the bar wasn't even crowded!!
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
This was the one bright spot of our stay at the MGM Grand. If you're a cigar smoker like I am, this is a GREAT spot. The drinks are reasonable (for a Vegas resort) and the Manhattans and Old Fashioned's I had here were very tasty! The service was always excellent and the couches are very comfortable. During certain nights, there will be live music as well.

John P.

Yelp
It is completely hit or miss in this place. I was here earlier in the day and the service was excellent. Then I came back and Al the bartender was an absolute a hole. The bar was busy, but he did not want to listen to my order, he just wanted to make whatever he wanted to make and move on. Total bullshit would never come back here again.
google avatar

Eric A.

Yelp
Somewhat limited selection but the staff was terrible. Bartender only interested in talking to girls and the wait staff ignored us. Never ordered and walked out
google avatar

Monica M.

Yelp
We spent the weekend in Vegas with friends and to see Morrissey in concert (more on that in a different post). Whiskey Down was where we met our friends for night caps our first night in town. I had an Old Fashioned which was very good! This post is really about the ambiance and the super friendly and engaging music entertainment, however. The guy - I don't know his name- was a one man band who played such a range of music that was diverse, fun, and surprising. We would give him a song, he'd beat box into a recording device and lay that over other beats and play his guitar and sing the song! Maybe others have seen this, but I was blown away. On top of that he played Depeche Mode and The Wknd!! The service was great as well and this place gives small 8oz in lieu of glasses of water which I thought was especially considerate of the pandemic. I liked the vibe and would come back again.
google avatar

Yelp
After seeing the flights of whiskey on Yelp pictures, I was looking forward to trying out some different vintages and styles. Our first server was horrible. Our second server wasn't much better. The live music was superb and the bartenders were great. If you choose to visit this place, be sure to sit at the bar. The only reason we tried this place is because of the $100 food and beverage credit due to the AmEx gold deal with MGM, stay 2 days or more and get room upgrade, credit, and skip the checkin line. Our second server, Julie, was indifferent to most. I think it's due to only drinks and no food making the tickets low and therefore tips low too. Perhaps it's not worth it to these ladies to make a few bucks off of drinks only. It's a pocket of the south, including some questionable service for people of color. I witnessed a black woman being seated and having to wait 10-15 minutes to be served. Other groups were served first who arrived later. Just a thoughgt The poor service servers aside, this place is great. Oh yeah, if you look up the menu with the QR code on the table, it will proclaim a tiny menu of drinks. When you decide on a flight of wine, the server will exclaim that they have no wine flight and the whiskey flight doesn't come with any desserts. So the menu is a liar. The servers will try to guilt you into a drink they have and make you feel silly for ordering a drink they don't have. The one good drink on the menu is the "Whiskey in the Jar". Please reconsider coming to this place. And please give feedback on the service. The greeter and bartenders are fantastic. Cosmos and margaritas suck. Martinis are good. Rum and coke is something that is really hard to mess up. Talk to the bartenders in real terms and you will be pleased. I feel sorry for anyone just coming in here and getting served what is usual. Get a drink. Don't like it, get another. Don't like it complain to manager. If you are not proactive, this is not the place to go.

Yuka B.

Yelp
Good ambience. Headed here to meet friends . They actually put alcohol in the drinks! It was still hopping at 1245 am on Saturday.
google avatar

Yelp
Good classy bar in MGM Grand. Maybe the nicest thing inside. They have shitloads of bourbon, most moderately to high priced. It's expected to not be cheap of course. There's a few reasonable concoctions too. It has Bulleit advertised. Bartender recommended the Coke mixer. Good choice, it has an excellent taste. It's just way too expensive. It's about $12 for a shot which is way too high. They also make cocktails if you don't want the very hard stuff. It has a good selection of bourbon. It also has very expensive bourbon. This is expected since it's in the middle of a fancy casino though.
google avatar

Jamie B.

Yelp
Stopped in here as my boyfriend is an avid whiskey drinker. I was super disappointed with the service here. There wasn't a lot of people in the lounge but our server wasn't friendly and wasn't attentive. We asked for a whiskey list and she stated she "didn't have one". She didn't offer to even name off the whiskeys they carried, interesting for a bar literally called whiskey down. We ordered the Jack Daniels tasting which she replied "don't have it". So we ordered a beer, paid, and left. Better off playing slots and getting free beers than stopping in here.
google avatar

Scott R.

Yelp
When ever I come to Vegas, I stay at the MGM and Whiskey Down is one of the places I look forward to visiting. Let me rephrase that, I USE TO LOOK FORWARD TO VISITING. First off, pay no attention to the "OPEN 24 HOURS" as it appears they now have "Summer" hours and close by 2am. That would explain why when I sat down at a table that everyone ignored me and I had to go to the bar only to find out they were closing within 30 minutes. A lounge only brings in dollars and you can run this lounge with as little as 2 FTE therefore; why close it at 2am? Go figure...all the more reason to check out places at Ceasars and the Wynn.
google avatar

Yelp
3.5 STARS Since I had a flight at 6am, my group of three decided to pull an all nighter. We were staying at MGM Grand, so figured we should check out Whiskey Down since it's open 24 hours. We stopped by on Saturday, January 26th around 12:30am. We started at the bar and just kept our eye out for a table. Once one freed up, we quickly pounced on it and moved. *Whiskey in the Jar: mint-infused old forester bourbon, fresh watermelon, lime juice, ginger beer ($15) *Give Me My Privacy: 1792 bourbon mgm select, eagle rare mgm select, garrison brothers mgm select ($19) *I'm Single: four roses single barrel, eh taylor single barrel, old forester single barrel ($19) I decided to do one of their tasting flights. Can't remember which one I picked, but we basically shared, so I tried both. Both flights were fine. I like tasting new pours. We'd been drinking all day, so the one round was actually perfect for sipping. We were here for a good two hours, so it was nice just chilling and talking. I'm glad we got a table as it wasn't as comfy crowding around one seat at the bar. Nice bar to chill if you can find a table.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
So let's start out with the good: - service (although the bartender was lacking whisky knowledge) - ambiance - seating Room for major improvement: - if your going to call yourself a Whiskey bar, MGM you better be stepping up your whisky game. The selection of whiskeys was lacking and kind of disappointing. In the midst of writing this review a musician arrived and the manager told us we needed to move (which was fine, No problem) but then the manager started making snide comments and has one of his employees throw our face masks away (not the blue cheap ones). I was completely blown away how they handled it and the manager keeping his distance to avoid resolving the issue.
google avatar

Cynthia B.

Yelp
Really great spot to relax I. Some co Gotta me club chairs and have a cigar and whiskey. It is next to the casino but I felt like I was out of the craziness. Relaxed and enjoying the good music my husband and I sat here for two hours. We were attended to and not rushed out or made to feel like we were taking up a table. The whiskey selection is good, even Japanese whiskeys. The price is higher than expected but it's in MGM and I'm not expecting cheap drinks. They do have drink specials during the week Monday-Friday so make sure you check those out. Overall, a great bar and great hangout in MGM. It's located right across from Starbucks and only a few steps from main checkin lobby.
google avatar

Kim K.

Yelp
Great little bar in the MGM Grand. We enjoyed the house specialty drink and the people watching. It's a great spot in the hotel to hang out. Be prepared for slow service, don't go if you are in a hurry.
google avatar

Charlene G.

Yelp
If you're looking for a chill spot to kick back with friends, hold good conversations, while sipping on some worthy whiskey? Then Whiskey Down is definitely the place for you. The entire back wall are the different Whiskey flavors they offer. The bartenders are also super helpful when it comes to Whiskey. They can provide great recommendations on what your specific type of Whiskey works for you. The overall interior of Whiskey Down is quite large. There are 4 gaming tables that are pretty high roller with a minimum be of ($25-$100). Once we ordered our drinks, the seats were all open seating so we found a comfy seating area by the entrance. I tried the Macallan 12 yrs shot on the rocks. I'm not used to drinking anything straight up/on the rocks. This drink was quite strong! Better than being weak, I suppose. Lol. All I can say is that Whiskey Down is a fun spot, pretty central on the casino floor.
google avatar

Kent H.

Yelp
Very comfortable. Great feel. I have to say that I was a little disappointed with the bourbon selection, so I agree with some of the other comments about it not being a true whiskey bar. Nice place though.
google avatar

Ivette D.

Yelp
A " whiskey bar" that has no menu at all and has a regular stock of liquors... where's the variety of whiskeys at? No food either. Just a dimly lit regular bar
google avatar

Steven D.

Yelp
The Good: This is a nice area and has a great whiskey selection. The Not So Good: It gets packed and service gets really slow at times. I wish I had taken some pictures but I was busy enjoying a cigar and a nice whiskey.

Nick M.

Yelp
First issue was the music choice. Why are they playing rap and hip hop at a whiskey theme bar? Where's the jazz or rat pack era of Vegas music? Then they didn't have half the whiskeys listed on the menu. Including many of their own select barrels from different distilleries. Very let down by this, expected the Vegas pricing and was willing to pay. But the experience was bad.
google avatar

Andrea M.

Yelp
No food and no citrus vodka for a lemon drop martini. How dare you say you have a full bar. SMH also NOT the most nicest friendliest staff. Urg

Yelp
ZERO STARS. Never experienced anything like this in my life. My family and I went here to get a drink before a show. We went straight to the bar to order our drinks. After we sat down at a table, the cocktail waitress came to the table to see if we need anything (knowing we already went to the bar and got everything we needed). My mother in law decided she wanted a drink, so she went up to the bar because the cocktail waitress never came back to our table (we didn't have a lot of time because of the show that night). The cocktail waitress went up to my mother in law at the bar and harassed her because she ordered at the bar instead of waiting for her to come back to our table. I went up to the bar to see what was going on and the waitress was arguing and causing a scene. The cocktail waitress called security and they had US leave. As we left the bar, the cocktail waitress was waving, smiling and gave us the middle finger. I couldn't believe it. Not to mention, I had my 90 year old grandparents with me. Really disappointing.

Steven B. S.

Yelp
How can you be a Cigar Bar and have no cigars! Ask my party to purchase cigars on the other side of the casino and comeback there to smoke them. We went to a REAL CIGAR in Caesar's that had cigars, good drinks & the right atmosphere!
google avatar

Jesse L.

Yelp
Came in here tonight for the first time ever. Pleasantly surprised with the ambiancee , service and drink selection. Katherine was our serve rand she was super cool. We enjoyed a variety of drinks and will def be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Not an actual whiskey bar. When we asked the bartender about a menu he said he can make anything we want. No specialty cocktails like we anticipated. Just a regular bar.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
I did a little research and read the reviews and was excited to come try this place. My wife and I walked in and it was packed, a sign this place is probably good. We sat down at the bar for just under 10 min, and we did not get one greeting, not even an eye glance from the bartenders. We felt totally ignored. Very disappointed, so we left to go find another place to spend our money. I had budgeted up to $200 for some drinks for us, oh well.
