My husband and I were in Chicago for a convention a couple of weeks ago. While I was getting ready for the day he was watching the news and says to me "we need to try this place". As y'all know from my other reviews he is a pizza perfectionist :) On the morning spotlight segment was this place called Whiskey Girl Tavern and they were talking how they are known for their hot honey pepperoni pizza and chicken tenders (which sell out). We didn't get to go to it that day and the next day we kept debating between that one and Robert's pizza which had been recommended. Well he couldn't get the image of their pizza out of his mind, so we hopped in a Uber and took the 25min ride to check it out. We sat at the best seat in the house ... the corner bar where we had the pleasure of meeting and talking to the best bar manager, Phil!! I ordered the Spill That Spicy T Margarita made with their homemade pineapple, jalapeño mix. It was the perfect balance.. of heat, sweetness (I don't do sweet) perfect touch of smoke from the mezcal and finished with a tahini rim ... omg I can't stop thinking about it!!!! To start we ordered the fried pickles which were the perfect size and lightly breaded .. delicious . Now the main event .. the Hot Honey Pepperoni Pizza. Let's talk about the crust which in our opinion will make or break a pizza. We love thin crust with a nice char , not burnt which is a fine line. We needed to be in that small 2 person kitchen at the end of the bar to see how on God's green earth they have perfected this pizza crust!! And who doesn't love cupped pepperonis? I personally feel these should be on every pepperoni pizza instead of those big greasy ones. I just can't say enough about how delicious this was!!! While talking to Phil my husband tells him how we heard about it and that we took the drive to check them out. Phil tells us we have to meet and tell the owners. We met Heather and Christina who were beyond thrilled and sweet to have us there. It's a small world bcs while talking with them we find out that during Covid they didn't want to be locked down in the cold and bought a place 30/40 minutes from us !! They opened the tavern about 2 years ago and just recently purchased the old pool hall next door. They showed us around and it was so cool with an old school vibe with some brown leather couches, pool table and a nice size bar that had just opened that day. If have read this far , THANK YOU! And when in Chicago please go check them out you will not be disappointed I promise!! I am sooo glad and sad that we found this place and believe everything happens for a reason. Glad bcs it was (no joke) the best pizza I have had in a long time and sad bcs I can't stop thinking about it now that I am back home in Tampa!! lol Until next time

While visiting town with my daughter, she has been told to check this place out, so we did. We both loved it. We ordered some drinks and had the fresh cut fries, fried pickles and pretzel bites and it was very delicious! The pizza looked really good, so we'll be ordering one out next time. Tatiana was welcoming and attentive, a really nice bartender. (She made a really good Bee's Knees for me.) Phil (manager) was also welcoming, engaging and fun to talk to! We decided to stay for trivia night (we didn't know about it prior to stopping in.) We didn't place in the top three winners, but we did win the most enthusiastic team award! I took some pics to post but forgot to take any of their other adjacent room that has four pool tables, a live music stage and a nice seating area. This is definitely a place I will want to visit every time I'm in town! Thanks Phil and Tatiana for a wonderful first visit that won't be our last. ☺️

Google
Drinks were well-made and staff was great, but the price on the bill was different than the menu by $2 a drink. Make sure to check the difference when closing out to see if you got had. Karaoke host on Wednesday was great, too. You can't hear the music well when you're singing, so don't rely on following that if you got the mic! I'd definitely go back, but will look closely at the bill. We don't have any food.

Google
Order up at the bar kind of service. If you are looking for food, they only have three things on the menu to order. Chicken tenders, thin crust pizza and fries, which were decent. The Cider was good, but the expresso Martini could be creamier.

Came with a friend and had a great visit! The kitchen wasn’t open yet when we arrived which was a bummer because we were hungry and the drinks made us hungrier lol. The bartender made great suggestions and was really friendly. The food was yummy too!

Google
Excellent sports bar. One of a few lesbian/queer women bars in the city. Chicken tenders are phenomenal, drinks are solid, and Phil the manager is the best manager ever! Trivia on Monday nights is fun, too.

Google
This place is awesome! Fresh juices make the drinks so amazing. Now the pool tables in back are open too. Great staff, great vibe and all the sports you can handle. NFL Sunday ticket so I can watch my Lions lose every week now! The best chicken tenders in the city helps with the pain. Seriously, THE BEST!! Totally perfect neighborhood hang out. Highly recommend checking this place out.

Whisky Girl is our favorite neighborhood bar! We attend weekly Monday Trivia, and also go for select sporting event broadcasts. It’s a wonderful local bar with amazing bartenders, tasty food, and a fun/safe environment! Love that I feel comfortable going to the bar on my own for a Sunday afternoon game, or to trivia with a group of friends on a Monday night! Fun place to meet new people, bring friends, and have a nice time!

Yelp
SO HAPPY! I called Whiskey Girl Tavern last minute on a Thursday in hopes of having my finances birthday on a Saturday and was fortunate to speak with Christina that accommodated a reservation for us. Christina was so polite in booking. Once we arrived she greeted us with such welcoming energy and service was top tier with their attentiveness in making sure that our table was taken care of. Our reservation included a seating area with a pool table ( our guest was very excited). Cocktails and mocktails were very yummy, Hot honey pepperoni pizza is a must! This location is a gem with great service, esthetic, food, and drinks. Highly recommend for hosting a celebration or just a good time with good friends. THANK YOU CHRISTINA!

Yelp
I took my sister in law visiting from Orlando and her partner visiting from Grand Rapids to this bar on a Saturday night because they wanted to hang out at a Chicago women bar. What a disappointment it was there was no contact from any of the employees at the bar. The only one that greeted us was the young man carding us at the door. We walked in and went to the new area in the back. My wife went to order drinks at the bar, and the bar tender told her it was closed to go to the bar in the front. She got us drinks and a very nice young man brought the drinks to our table. put, there was no music, so my sister in law asked about it, and he said there's a jukebox in front. My wife and Sue played pool as we sat and talked it was so dead in there that we quickly got bored and left. I'm sorry I love to support my lgbtq businesses, but I won't be returning here anytime soon. I've heard really great reviews about this sports bar, but this was not a good experience at all, and I was embarrassed for taking my sister in law here with her new partner.

Yelp
Great cocktails! Great service and food as well. Will definitely drive here from Milwaukee to watch some sports!

Yelp
All I was doing was looking for a drink and a few tenders to go so I could get a snack to Baby Girl. You would have thought I was ordering filet mignon and I wanted the cow freshly butchered. I stood there, patiently and kindly, waiting for 15 minutes. Only to find out they had refused to place my order with the kitchen because they couldn't put three chicken tenders into a bag. Terrible service, needless to say. The manager, to her credit, offered to comp my drink. But, even if her staff weren't going to act with any sort of integrity, I was still going to pay my tab.

Kate N.

Yelp
THE best women's sports bar in the city. Great vibes, great drinks, great staff, great events.

Christina H.

Yelp
Good drinks and a warm, friendly ambience. I loved the Human Rights Campaign Drag Show in the adjacent room there.

Yelp
What an absolute adorable place! This use to be a billiard/pool place and it has been converted to a lovely bar. The get an extra star because they have sparkling rose and those crazy good chicken tenders. Those two things alone will get me in back there. Can't speak on the cocktails myself, but The Queen got Expresso martinis and had several. What I can speak on was the food. Menu was very limited, with pizza, fries and chicken tenders, but that was plenty. I am not a fan of pepperoni and I was looking over the pizzas, that was the one The Doctor and Queen wanted, so we got it. I have to say, pepperoni is never an option for me to order any other time, but man this one was so good! Made in a wood burning oven, the crust was just just thin enough to be tasty and hold the ingredients, but not too thin to fall apart. We also got fries, which were more like pomme frites...very tasty. But the star of the show was those GD chicken tender! Juicy, tender, seasoned and battered in what appeared to be a tempura batter. Those were so good that we got a second order. There was a selection of dipping sauces, from Sriracha mayo to Blue cheese, but we got the sweet chili one which was great. Nice flavor without being too spicy. Staff was very nice and fun to talk to. The bartender on staff, Phil, was funny and nice to hang with. Also got to chat with the owner, Heather. She was very receptive and talked about the plans for the place. There is a second part of the bar, a much larger room with a stage for live entertainment as a few tables (not sure if they are pool or billiard). It is a woman/lesbian owned bar, and that is cool. But even if it wasn't, I would still add this place on my rotation of bars to go to. Welcome to the neighborhood. Just need those chicken tenders to stay on the menu and let's get some sausage on that pizza!

Yelp
Great service, large space, has parking. Very diverse crowd when I was there, from the rainbow flag and shades of skin, everyone was super cool, Loved the karaoke vibe they have.

Jack W.

Yelp
Shout out to the owner Christina. Thanks so much for having our Friday afternoon Bear Cocktail group. Loved the free pool. We really enjoyed ourselves and will definitely be back. We even had a surprise wedding reception.

Jeremy B.

Yelp
We stopped in Saturday evening after dinner for some post-meal drinks and had an all around great time at Whiskey Girl. Bc we had just eaten we did not try the food, but the cocktails were excellent! Service is a tad slow, but that is to be expected with any business that just opened, and the staff was SUPER friendly. They plan to expand to the other half of the space, and I look forward to checking it out and coming to play some pool and watch sporting events on TV (and trying the food next time)!

Gina M.

Yelp
The food is similar to something I could buy at Aldi's in which a 5-year-old could make in their easy bake oven. Its definitely not worth the 10 bucks for bland pretzel bites or the 16 bucks for barely crust pizza. But make sure to bring your own condiments because they'll charge you extra for asking. The drinks are so overpriced for the size. The service is terrible. Every time there is an event or if the bar is even slightly busy the staff looks so overwhelmed, like they can never seem to get it together. No matter if you're at the bar or in line to get a drink, unless you're loud or one of the bartenders thinks your cute-be prepared to wait at least 20 minutes to get your drink ordered. I suggest going to Nobodys Darling instead if you want to support a lesbian owned business.

Yelp
WELCOME TO EDGEWATER!!! In an area in sore need of coolness, here comes WHISKEY GIRL knocking it out of the box on the first night! Rolled up early, anticipating this place hopping - anxiously awaiting this opening! Billed as an "upscale sports bar". I'm going out on a limb and billing it a Sports Bar For The Rest of Us! Those of us who enjoy watching a few types of sportsball games, but do not like the testosterone-poisoned, backwards baseball cap, BLARING TVs vibe of many sports bars. The drinks menu was created by Meredith B! Formerly of Marys Attic, the "swim up bar" at Ombra and Vol. 39! She's back for occasional guest appearances behind the bar! This means incredible drinks! The drinks: I started with a Daiquiri - elegantly garnished with a orchid! Beauty! The daiquiri was delicious, and served in a traditional daiquiri glass. I felt very literary. And slightly tipsy. My companion had a Manhattan and an Old Fashioned both incredibly delicious and beautifully made. Cocktail prices were well in line with norms in this area, but then they are little pieces of art. That you can drink! I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the really tasty ZERO PROOF cocktail I had here - made with BARE Gin It had the appeal and taste of a booze-based cocktail, minus the booze! No more clutching an inelegant plastic cup of club soda for those who'd rather not imbibe! They currently have a limited menu, soon to expand. I'll be back for that! Everything we saw rolling out of the kitchen looked really great. Great crowd, great space, great drinks, women-centric, looks like a success to me! Plans for expansion abound, pool tables may appear. A stage! Dog friendly area! I will be very happy to watch this place grow and thrive, and will visit often. For the DAIQUIRIS and hoping for an encounter with WHISKEY, the namesake puppy!

Yelp
Such a great and welcoming place in a gift to the Chicago area. We've had many an event there and love it. Try the pepperoni pizza with the hot honey.

Ignacio A.

Yelp
Great place , food is very good, friendly service. Pepperoni honey pizza and the chicken tenders are my favorite

Michael C.

Yelp
Discovered this gem when eating at SBK up the street. I found the cocktail menu varied with interesting concoctions. I settled on the Brooklyn and must say it was one of the finest whiskey cocktails I've ever had. Perfectly balanced with just the right amount of liquor. The inside is spacious and there was a great trio playing very interesting avant-garde jazz. Highly recommend this place!

Cheryl W.

Yelp
Great new place in the hood! I loved my old fashioned. The chicken fingers and cauliflower were so tasty and fresh. I love that the breading isn't heavy at all

Yiayia C.

Yelp
Nicely done inside. Extremely friendly service. Had a few hours to kill before our flight out of town so we stopped at this neighborhood bar. Everyone was very friendly. Nice atmosphere. Will stop by again next time we're in town.

Lisa T.

Yelp
I enjoyed the friendly service team. They were very engaging and gave suggestions on pizza picks. Drinks were good; not water down. I would definitely go back again.

Alyssa T.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about Whiskey Girl Tavern! We held a birthday party there for my sister and it was amazing. First, the party area is huge! So spacious and so clean. We ordered pizzas and they were tasty! The staff was attentive and so kind. Pretty much every patron of the bar even stopped to wish my sister a happy birthday. Location is awesome, too, on the corner. So easy to park but even easier to get a car from there. Thank you for a great party and for being so awesome overall! Food/Drinks/Staff/Location/Party Space/Cleanliness = all 5 stars!

Trenai D.

Yelp
Had our 2nd Holiday Work Party here and we couldn't have picked a better venue. To the great food, awesome karaoke, and warm staff; it was a party to remember. Thank you Whiskey Girl!

Orest S.

Yelp
We'll, their Daiquiri is good! Also they have up to 4 draft beers, but this place is more about cocktails, I guess. It seems like it was renovated recently, or just opened recently. There's no table service, so you should order at the bar, which is not really obvious. It even with the full bar, we've got our drinks really fast!

Ellen L.

Yelp
If you are a fan of WNBA, you have FINALLY found a bar in Chicago that cares about women's sports!!! They have invested in offering most, if not all platforms that show women's basketball games yahhoooooo yippeaykaiyeeeeey mother******!!!!!!!!!!! ps: the mini-pretzel bites rule. Go gays!

Shelby D.

Yelp
The other week my family and I were in town for a Cubs game and decided to give Whiskey Girl Tavern a try after the game. While they had a limited menu as they had just opened for business that weekend, the food was great! The brickoven pizza's we ordered were on point, the fresh homemade fries were fantastic, and our kids said the chicken tenders were the best they have ever had. When it came to drinks the margarita was excellent and the old fashioned I enjoyed had me craving another! We will definitely be heading back next time we visit Chicago!

Ann Marie K.

Yelp
Great addition to the Edgewater neighborhood. Attentive and friendly service and all around pleasant vibes from fellow patrons. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to be there (staff and customers alike) supporting this bar in its opening stage. I love that it's named after the owners' dog, too! The drinks were great; I got a classic margarita and a watermelon margarita and my husband got an old fashioned and a beer on draft (good reviews from his as well). We split the Margherita pizza and it was good as well! So happy to have a bar so close to our home that we really will enjoy going to.

R T.

Yelp
We live in Wisconsin but had to stop at WGT on the way out of the city!! The staff is friendly, chill and excellent! Drinks are all handmade - had the Old Fashioned, Daiquiri and Cosmo + and all perfect!! Food is totally delish!! Hand-cut fries, pizza, mozzarella sticks - all really really good! Already planning and looking forward to our next visit!

Joe H.

Yelp
Nice ambiance, great cocktails. Very accommodating for our large group. Thanks Christina and crew for a lovely evening!

Anna J.

Yelp
Whiskey Girl Tavern is such an awesome addition to the neighborhood! The owners are super nice and the whole staff is friendly. Great drinks, great atmosphere, and shockingly good food!! I don't know how they churn such magical snacks out of that tiny kitchen, but I'm grateful for it. The vibe is somehow a perfect mashup of bistro/speakeasy and sports bar, which sounds impossible to pull off but really there's something there for everyone to like. You want a sophisticated cocktail and a hand-made wood-fired pizza? Check. You want to pound $5 miller drafts, shoot pool, and sing karaoke? Check. The fact that it's a queer-women owned space for queer women is just icing on the cake. I hope the whole community turns out to support them and keep them in business, because we really need more places like this in Chi.

Lisa R.

Yelp
Went here with a small group of friends not too long ago. It was an amazing experience! Bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable; true to their craft. Drinks are fantastic, food is great. There is an event space attached which allows you to either partake in that or sit in the main area and relax. Incredible experience overall!

Maryann B.

Yelp
I have made three visits so far to Whiskey Girl. The bar is cleaned up and looks very welcoming. Plenty of TVs to watch many games. The back part looks great- nice seating, big open booth and pools tables. The chicken tenders are juicy and meaty. The mozzarella sticks are actually handmade- not just the skinny ones out of a package. What I am not enjoying is the size of the a few special drinks. I ordered a dirty Kettle One martini and it came out in a very small glass for $16. I mean- it was small - one of those petite glasses- not even a martini glass. There was not $16 worth of booze in there. The Manhattan for $12 has the big block of ice and that is alright. I want to keep going there but the drinks need to be more worth the money. I will not order a dirty martini until that glass is bigger. I pay $17 for a grey goose martini at Hugo's and it's full size. Hope this can be fixed.

Kaitlin B.

Yelp
Come for the lesbians and stay for the margaritas, and then the chicken tenders, and then another margarita, by which point you're already tipsy because the drinks are as strong as they are magnificent. Excellent cocktails, very nice space, really looking forward to the expansion this fall!

Julie B.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I stopped in Friday night. I always want to support new bars in the hood, especially lesbian owned. I want this place to succeed! The service is very slow! I am a beer drinker, and standing in a line 5-6 people deep is not a fun experience, especially if they are all ordering fancy cocktails that take a loooong time to make. Perhaps there can be a separate beer line, or beer location? Also, there were only two bartenders and they work very slow making those complex cocktails. I love this space, and I am very happy that they are here, in the neighborhood, but there needs to be some improvement on speed and service. We saw at least 5 people leave during the time we were there because service was so slow.

Jolie N.

Yelp
Food was great! Monica showed us around and made our first visit an amazing one. The atmosphere is amazing, there are pool tables and a huge space for entertainment. Lesbian owned and operated. Love it!

Brian E.

Yelp
I want to love this place. It's in my neighborhood. It's supposedly supportive of the LGTBQ+ community. What it is, is not that at all. It's a couple of lesbians from Florida that thought they could waltz into chicago and create a place for them and their friends to drink watch sports and play pool. If you want a true sports bar friendly to LGBTQ+ look elsewhere. Their food is awful... they'd be better off to just be a bar and let people bring in food from elsewhere. They have only three menu items after months of being open and it's gross pizza, pitiful chicken fingers your teenager could make and fries. Hardly a sports bar menu. What is most off putting it the owners arrogance and entitlement. Their menu prices are all listed as cash prices. Fine... but I when you get your bill the bill it is a confusing list of overcharges and minor up charges. I understanding that wanting to charge for credit cards (actually I don't, just be an adult and build it into your prices. This isn't 1952 with people walking around with cash). But when you overcharge for your mediocre dipping sauce it's not right. And when I was providing very calm feedback about our experience to the owner, her drunk wife interjected and tried to make it some kind of issue. (Mind you both owners had been drinking all night on the floor with guests). The wife of the owner oven tried to make it out as some kind of prejudice against lesbians. (Not at all). We are two gay men who live in the neighborhood they want a LGBTQ+ bar/restaurant to succeed so badly. However the fact that they are unwilling to process any feedback and would prefer to attack their patrons than accept feedback forced me to not recommend their establishment. Good luck with your future endeavors if you choose to alienate your local community.

Sarah B.

Yelp
awesome bar! anne mark and phil are the nicest!! i was driving DD for my buddies and anne made me the most delicious mocktail-- cosmo no alcohol and a really good energy in this place. will be back to try the food!

Chris J.

Yelp
Great Chicken Tenders, even better people! I saw the Bears game playing and decided to finally check it out. Very friendly atmosphere and drink/eat options are great!
