Since Whiskey 'N Rye had such excellent reviews, we decided this is where we'd have lunch on our day trip up to Solvang. Parking is easy, there is a large free lot right behind the restaurant. There was no wait on the day we visited, probably because it was raining. We were seated inside right around the corner from the kitchen, which was an awful location due to every server yelling "corner" every time they walked by. Very annoying.
Our waitress seemed friendly, but she was incredibly slow and took forever to do anything. At the end of our visit we had to ask another server to bring the bill because she was standing outside chit chatting for about 10 minutes.
To drink we both ordered their Peachy Old Fashioned, which was so cloyingly sweet it was hard to drink. Neither of us even tasted whiskey, it was just pure, syrupy artificial peach flavor. Not impressed with that cocktail!
We started with an order of Fried Pickles. They were brought out super fast, which was great cause we were starving, but they were room temperature. We did like the batter and the dipping sauce, but they had clearly been sitting around for awhile.
For entrees, he went with the Brisket Sandwich, which was also served at room temperature. He said he liked it, but it wasn't amazing. I took a bite and I agree with that, it's just a whatever sandwich. We both did like the horseradish sauce served on the side, without that I think the sandwich would be been quite boring. I had their Biscuits & Gravy with brisket. This was better than his sandwich, but it definitely needed salt & pepper, and they don't provide you with any. The biscuits were huge and had a nice texture, the eggs were cooked well, but it was just a very bland dish.
This is a really cute looking place and their menu does sound great, but unfortunately it was a big miss for us. I also didn't smell any BBQ or smoking going on, which I thought was odd for a BBQ place.
