The Best Road-Trip Worthy Restaurants Along California’s Central Coast

"While the crowds maneuver around Solvang’s Danish shops, head toward a less crowded corner and into Whiskey ‘N Rye Smokehouse. House specialties come with a whiff of smokey hickory, including the barbecue sampler with baby back ribs, 12-hour smoked brisket, and pulled pork. Whiskey ‘N Rye stocks an excellent (you guessed it) whiskey and rye list." - Eater Staff, Mona Holmes

The family and I asked for recommendations around town and splendidly ended up at Whiskey and Rye. They weren’t able accommodate 5 inside with the short notice but their patio heaters did the job for our evening dinner. Everyone in my family is a little picky and I am Vegan but we all ended up passing around the plates to taste and were VERY happy with the quality of our meal. Keri was an absolute joy as she helped me navigate the menu and offered great recommendations. It is restaurant week so I went with the 3 course meal and chose the smoked Spaghetti Squash which was full of flavor. My family got the wings, grilled salmon, and baby back ribs which they all raved about. They also had amazing craft sodas and zero-proof cocktails for a family that doesn’t drink. We would certainly come back again. Thanks Keri for making the experience memorable!

We ordered the brisket fries, filet mignon bites and the sweet chili wings. All delicious, but the wings are amazing! Perfectly crunchy and moist. Not spicy at all. The filet mignon was perfectly cooked and was tender. The brisket fries would be last on my list to order again. Not because they were bad, but because we absolutely loved the wings and steak.

Long over due Review: We have been here 3 times over the years and Jazmine was our server each time. She provides amazing service, has a warm smile and bartends too. We got a full rack of ribs which is huge ( half shown in picture ) , brisket, fried pickles and skillet cookie. All the food was delicious especially the ribs. For cocktails we got the country lemonade which is my favorite and a penicillin. They have a huge whiskey list and if you buy a doulbe the 2nd shot is half off ! Highly recommend this restaurant and I'll be back each time I visit Solvang.

Good for family. Pricy, expect an hour wait during dinner. They have good area in front with heaters for waiting. Inside dinning area is small with bar seatings. There is outside dinning as well but for parties of 2 for what I noticed. We had to order the trio sampler (brisket, rib & pulled pork) since they don't let us order the ribs & brisket (they dont have enough meat). We didnt like the pulled pork of out the 3 meats (hence why we didnt order the trio in the 1st place), dry, greasy, sweet, not to mention this dish arrived barely warm. But we didnt fussed over it since the place was hectic & busy, not to mention it was 8pm when we got the food. I ordered the brisket dirty fries, which was the best out of all, flavorful, hot & juicy. The wings were OK, it came with BBQ & lemon pepper. And coming from the person who loves sour things, the lemon pepper ones were too sour, they need to season this better. Also got the whiskey n rye burger cooked medium, it was ok, not as juicy as I hoped & lack flavor. Their fries were good.

Wanna say we found this jewel during our visit to the town and am not gonna waste the opportunity to leave a good review of this great place. Coming from Costa Rica, I went to celebrate my birthday on Oct 19th, we had a delicious dinner aligned with a top notch service; the waiting time was almost nothing, ended with a delicious cake with ice cream. I loved the atmosphere and in general a 20 of 10; great for any celebration, dates, groups or families. Hope to comeback someday soon to the beautiful town of Solvang, and of course, visit you guys again!

Google
Food was good and portion sizes were decent sizes. A little on the expensive side. Brisket flavor was good, but not as smoky as I prefer (notice lack of smoke ring). Mac & cheese side was very good. Wife got the brisket chili that she really liked.

Google
Mandy was amazing! She made everything perfect for my mom’s 80th birthday! We will definitely come back. Our filet was to salty for us she and the manager took care of us. The brisket was like butter . Ribs delicious, beet salad amazing. Corn bread yum

Google
After checking restaurants for lunch we found this gem of a restaurant nestled at the end of the road. It is gourgeous, upscale, trendy. Matthew the maitre'd won us over. He was exceptional. We had a very friendly warm welcoming reception by him. Matthew gave us his full attention and answered all our questions. He was really genuine in having us as guests. He was very attentive in checking on us during our meal. The menu had several dishes that we liked. Our server was great, very patient and pleasant. There is indoor and outdoor dining. The outdoor dining is surrounded by plants and shrubs, a garden setting. We chose outdoor seating due to the ideal patio weather. The ambience was warm, relaxing and comfortable. Our sandwiches were delicious. It was a wonderful experience over all. We will surely return.

Yelp
My Husband and I came here in September for the first time. It was our 35th wedding anniversary and we wanted to go somewhere special. We met Matthew Negrete, the Director of Operations and he treated us like we were royalty. Our waitress was named Carrie, and she made our visit wonderful too. Honestly, when people are that nice it really wouldn't have mattered what the food was like, but the food is amazing. We came back in December to celebrate my birthday, and they both remembered us, and treated us like we were practically family. They made both occasions so special for us we will make this our have to go to place always. If you haven't tried this place you are missing out. It's wonderful, and the staff is wonderful. Thank you guys for making our trip so special.

Yelp
Staff was super friendly! The brisket fries were my favorite appetizer, and Jake makes the best drinks!

Yelp
Our food was amazing everything was delicious from appetizers to the main course and desert. The servers were very knowledgeable on the menu. I recommend eating here you will be very satisfied. Food we ordered ribs, chicken wings, loaded fries, pulled pork tacos, corn bread, brisket Mac n cheese, onion rings, sweet potato cheese cake, skillet cookie with ice cream. A+++++++++++ A must go to when in solvang The manager Vincent came over to our table to make sure everything was to our liking. We let him know that his staff was amazing as well as the food. We will be back soon

Yelp
This place was literally a 2 minute walk from our Airbnb so we stopped here to kill time before being able to check in. The area is so cute. Loved all the plants/flowers everywhere... very nice spot. We were seated right away, host was very friendly. He happily gave us suggestions on where to go and what to do once the town shut down-- though most of the suggestions were bars/clubs and a drive away... we still appreciated it. We considered the options but ultimately succumbed to being old ladies instead lol. Our waitress got our drink orders right away and, soon after, we placed our order for an appetizer (Loaded Mac and Cheese). We were going to go to dinner in a few short hours so this was just to hold us off 'til then. I got a Watermelon drink and I can't remember what my friend got but I want to say it was the Santa Ynez Punch? They were okay. Not my favorite. The Mac was a nice little snack though. Overall, still a very nice little area to grab a drink or bite to eat. I'd give it another whirl.

Yelp
Visited this place to celebrate my brother-in-law's 21st birthday, and it was a great experience! The ambiance was cozy and rustic, with a warm, woody feel that set the perfect mood for a celebration. We started off with drinks, and my cousin-in-law and I both tried the ginger beer. Honestly, it was some of the best ginger beer we've ever had; it tasted incredibly fresh, like it was homemade. As for the food, the brisket fries were a standout for me. The combination of tender brisket and crispy fries was packed with flavor. They were a bit too spicy for my family, though, and they couldn't quite finish them. However, that didn't stop me from enjoying them because that chipotle cream sauce was the star of the show! The mac n cheese was rich and creamy, but it didn't quite blow me away. It was good, but not particularly memorable. The fried pickles were a bit too salty for my taste, and unfortunately, the garlic remoulade didn't help balance that out. A zesty ranch dressing would have been a much better pairing to cut through the salt. To top it off, our server was fantastic! She was super attentive and made the day special by surprising my brother-in-law with a cookie ice cream dessert for his birthday. Overall, great vibes and solid food, with a few small tweaks that could elevate the experience even more!

Yelp
Another amazing time at whiskey and Rye in Solvang! Sat outside in the big boy chairs with a cool Co-worker! Service, of course is awesome here I've never been let down so far and don't want to . They have amazing foods and the service here bringing out the food is fantastic. For that chicken, it's put in a smoker and then when someone orders it, they cook it for another five minutes or so and it tastes amazing !!!!!!!

Yelp

Yelp
Solvang was PACKED during our visit. No reservations taken until after 4pm. We were told 2 hour wait but they got us in after 20 minutes We sat down outside, a little chilly. The service we received was excellent, very friendly and attentive The food was amazing. Drinks were on point. This is a great option to get some really tasty food and great service. Well-oiled machine!

Yelp
My partner and I came to Whiskey n Rye on our trip to Solvang and we very pleased with our experience! This just might be some of the best barbecue I've had. I ordered the Santa Ynez for my cocktail and it was delicious. We ordered the brisket with mac n cheese, smashed potatoes and beans. The brisket was mouth watering. And all the sides were wonderful; especially the beans with the amazing sauce. The service was relatively fast and all the servers were friendly. The western decor was cute and I appreciated that they had heat lamps for sitting outside. You won't be disappointed if you choose to check out Whiskey N Rye

Yelp
Came here for lunch on a Sunday as a group and had such a delicious experience! As I'm not a big BBQ lover, I made the reservation with my friends in mind and didn't expect to enjoy the food myself but the chicken sandwich so strongly exceeded my expectations, I had a wonderful time! Service was quick and friendly. Sitting outside was delightful. My cucumber cocktail was refreshing, and friends enjoyed their cornbread, Mac and cheese, brisket, and beet salad as well. Would happily return and recommend to others!

Yelp
Great cute location in Solvang to grab a bite to eat as we did to kill some time before checking in our hotel. Sweetest host to greet us & even gave us great recommendations around the area to checkout! Our server was attentive, also provided great recs & quick on refills on drinks. We only grab one appetizer with the loaded Mac & cheese to munch & it was decent portion although overall on their menu is on the pricey side. My rating leans more on the location, ambiance, and service was awesome but the food & drinks I would honestly say was ok.

Yelp
Since Whiskey 'N Rye had such excellent reviews, we decided this is where we'd have lunch on our day trip up to Solvang. Parking is easy, there is a large free lot right behind the restaurant. There was no wait on the day we visited, probably because it was raining. We were seated inside right around the corner from the kitchen, which was an awful location due to every server yelling "corner" every time they walked by. Very annoying. Our waitress seemed friendly, but she was incredibly slow and took forever to do anything. At the end of our visit we had to ask another server to bring the bill because she was standing outside chit chatting for about 10 minutes. To drink we both ordered their Peachy Old Fashioned, which was so cloyingly sweet it was hard to drink. Neither of us even tasted whiskey, it was just pure, syrupy artificial peach flavor. Not impressed with that cocktail! We started with an order of Fried Pickles. They were brought out super fast, which was great cause we were starving, but they were room temperature. We did like the batter and the dipping sauce, but they had clearly been sitting around for awhile. For entrees, he went with the Brisket Sandwich, which was also served at room temperature. He said he liked it, but it wasn't amazing. I took a bite and I agree with that, it's just a whatever sandwich. We both did like the horseradish sauce served on the side, without that I think the sandwich would be been quite boring. I had their Biscuits & Gravy with brisket. This was better than his sandwich, but it definitely needed salt & pepper, and they don't provide you with any. The biscuits were huge and had a nice texture, the eggs were cooked well, but it was just a very bland dish. This is a really cute looking place and their menu does sound great, but unfortunately it was a big miss for us. I also didn't smell any BBQ or smoking going on, which I thought was odd for a BBQ place.

Yelp
This place was one of the best barbecues I've had in California! It was a good way to break up all the danish food I've been eating. Upon walking in, the ambiance had an upscale western vibe. Super modern, but also super country. The service here was solid, nothing necessarily noteworthy, but they were quick. But the food and drinks were phenomenal. They had an amazing assortment of whiskey cocktails, I loved how inventive they were. The sides were amazing, we got the smashed potatoes, Mac and cheese, and beans. I think the beans were my favorite. They had a smoky, sweet flavor to them. The brisket was amazing, it was super tender--fall apart tender--and it was perfectly fatty. Was definitely better than some barbecues I've waiting an hour+ in line for

Yelp
If you haven't tried this place yet give it a shot!! We sat outside the staff set up the heaters and it was comfortable. We gave the Brisket Fries a try and "Chefs Kiss" delicious I could of had it as a main course.

Yelp
Be prepared to wait up to TWO HOURS to be seated here! That's what they were telling us and many other guests as we walked up. Fortunately we were seated within 10min after we mentioned to remove us from the wait list....since there was some outside seating available on the right side of the building (bring a thick jacket, it gets very cold out there) It would be so nice to allow reservations but they don't take any. The great service made up for the inconvenience. Our server frequently checked in with us. Appetizers we recommend : Loaded Mac n Cheese (love the jalapeño spicy taste) Fried Pickles (surprisingly addicting) Highly recommend their Cobb Steak Salad! Ultra delicious!! And you'll love the tenderness of their Smoked Brisket plate. The sandwich version is also good: Smoked Brisket sandwich. Other tasty items included Carolina Pulled Pork Sandwich Brisket Chili

Yelp
I hated Solvang and don't want to ever come back, BUT the bbq here made me consider coming back. Our first stop was Whiskey 'N Rye, we didn't have a reservation and they had availability to seat us for lunch. The ambiance was not what I was expecting, it was a lot smaller and a darker vibe, but the service was great, I wish I remembered our servers name because she was wonderful. The food was perfect, I haven't been to a lot of bbq spots, but this is absolutely top 3 for me, everything was delicious! If you come here and love pickles, I would absolutely order the beer battered pickles, I don't think I'll find better fried pickles anywhere else.

Yelp
Visited Whiskey and Rye today in solvang around 11:00am. We were seated right away, no wait time and there was space available. I ordered the Kentucky coffee which had whiskey and banana syrup and it was good. The mimosa was good and my step dad loved the Bloody Mary. I ordered the egg sandwich and added a hamburger patty and this sandwich was bomb! The potato's on the side were very crispy and good. The French toast fritters were very good as well. The caramelized bananas were amazing. Overall my family really enjoyed their food as well. The service was great, staff were very attentive. Love the look and location of this spot. 10/10 would recommend.

Yelp
This is my 2nd time here and I remember the first time I came here, the ribeye was fantastic. I feel like it was a better quality piece of meat, but this time around, the meat didn't taste as good. The seasoning was a little underwhelming. The wait time here is always 30 plus minutes on the weekends. Luckily, it's in Solvang so you can go walk around the town and they will text you when your table is ready. There is seating inside and outside on the patio. We also ordered the cornbread and buffalo cauliflower. Both of these are fantastic. Overall, this has become out go to when in Solvang.

Yelp
Just amazing all around!!!! Food was amazing and everyone was so friendly!!! Great atmosphere and perfect place to watch the game.

Yelp
we had a really good experience. The burger was tasty, cooked well, and had a nice balance of flavors. The fries were perfectly crispy and well-seasoned--definitely a solid side. we also tried the mac and cheese overload, which had a unique twist with smoky brisket mixed in. It was creamy and flavorful without being too heavy. Service was quick and friendly, making the whole visit smooth and enjoyable. Overall, it's a great spot for a casual meal with good food and good service. I'll be back for sure!

Yelp
We were really disappointed in the food here. We had higher expectations with all the reviews. Picked this place for our anniversary dinner. Service was okay. The gal was nice but we were often forgotten about and never got our drinks that we ordered. Food came out pretty quickly. Unfortunately, it also made us really sick. It was the only thing we had eaten and we shared both dishes and both of us ended up in the bathroom all night long. Cute place and offered lots of choices for whiskey and flights. We'd never go back here again though. There were too many negatives. Burger was really soft, but plain nothing special. Appetizer was really spicy and that's all you could taste. The corn was the best out of our choices but it wasn't true elote. Which is okay but it really should be called something else.

Yelp
Great bbq. Husband and I shared the trip platter. Comes with brisket, half rack of ribs and pulled pork. Also comes with 2 small sides, which we opted for Mac and cheese and the bbq baked beans. Beans were on the super sweet side and the Mac and cheese was perfect. Best way to try a little bit of everything. Highly recommend making reservations online because they get busy. Made reservations at 6:15pm and we were seated immediately. Also so keep in mind they do run out of the BBQ quickly as we were leaving we heard the chef mention that they were out of ribs and brisket. Service is great. Get there early. For parking it appears to be all street parking. Our hotel was just around the corner so we just walked but it would appear parking could be tricky if you are driving there.

Yelp
Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! The food was so fresh, quality on point! Had he Filet Mignon and Grilled Salmon soooo good!
google avatar

Jen J.

Yelp
We started with the brisket fries (a little spicy but just right for my taste) then both had steaks, me a filet and him the ribeye. My filet was a little under done but not enough to request a few min longer on the grill. It was tender and well seasoned and the chimichurri was great! Garlic smashed potatoes were crispy and garlicky. The lemon poppyseed dressing on the house salad was fantastic. The Santa Ynez punch was fantastic!! A little loud but really liked the color pallet and the warm cozy feel it created. We came on a chilly night and sat inside but all the heaters made for a comfy temp on the patio, too.
google avatar

Yelp
My husband and I just had the most wonderful dining experience here. On a cooler evening we dined on the patio and enjoyed the outdoor heaters. We were attended to and checked on promptly during our visit. We shared the jalapeno cornbread which was delicious. The jalapeno flavoring was light, not too spicy or overwhelming and the sweetness of the butter complimented it well. Some cornbread skillets can be very oily/greasy and this one was not. I enjoyed the hangar steak with chimichurri sauce with the side salad and smashed garlic potatoes. My steak was a perfectly cooked medium rare 10 ounces without a single weird tendon strand or sliver of fat. The side salad had cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, croutons, coleslaw and a delicious lemon poppyseed dressing. The smashed garlic potatoes were so good paired with the steak with alot of garlicky goodness. My husband enjoyed the burger cooked medium with onion rings and the elote quarters. The elote had a delicious tomato crema on top! It was our intention to order dessert but were so full from finishing all of our food...it was that delicious. In tourist towns such as Solvang it's often very difficult to find a nice dining experience and food that is worth the 4+stars they're usually given on Yelp (ahem...Peasant's Feast=horribly overhyped). We can't wait for another chance to dine here in the near future!

Yelp
Stopped in 8-8-24 for the first time and had an excellent time. Our server was very sweet, food and drinks were great, plenty of parking in the rear. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Before you even arrive at Whiskey and Rye, the scent of BBQ draws you near. The classic rock music is echoing throughout and you just know that you've come to the right place. It was a chilly evening and the only available seating was outdoors. Thank God for those heat lamps or we might not have been able to stay... brrrr! We were greeted by the lovely and outgoing Gigi. Started off with the Buttermilk Fried Pickles because that sounded kind of fun. They did not disappoint and were accompanied by an interesting dipping sauce which we both agreed were a hit. We also ordered the Dirty Brisket Fries. My husband is a lover/expert of all things brisket, but said they were just okay. For dinner I had the chili. They had run out of jalapeño cornbread that is served with it, so they offered garlic bread instead which was fine. It paired well. The portion was a good size for me and kept me warm. I was grateful our server mentioned that the chili had a kick and asked if I had wanted the jalapeños on the side which I did. (Side note **Hubby tasted it with the jalapeños and said it had nice flavor but would have been too spicy for me). So thank you Gigi :) The Beast Burger is what my husband chose and he really enjoyed it. He said he would definitely order it again. Halfway through the meal, the heat lamp went out and we asked one of the staff for help and he quickly went into action and changed out the propane tank for us. If we weren't so full I would have been all over that carrot cake I saw go by. Next time I will begin with that for sure. Staff is quite attentive and friendly. Will absolutely return on our next visit to Solvang.

Yelp
Three salads so yummy looking I had a hard time choosing but went for the beet salad with chicken added But at 5:30- the kitchen said they are out of chicken. Oh well, and I'm here in low season so that's ok Hubby got brisket. It was good. Beans were ok but the corn was amazing. The beet salad was excellent. Lots of beets and good dressing

Yelp
I had the best experience here. The little town is beautiful, and we got lucky to have front and center outside. GG was a very good server. She had the enthusiasm and character every server should! The Food was so good, you could taste the smoked flavor on almost everything you ordered. We had the cornbread, spaghetti squash, ribeye with mac and cheese side, elote corn, and roasted veggies! I absolutely loved the mac & corn so much. The spaghetti squash was good but I feel like maybe more salt or something was needed but I liked it nonetheless. I would love to come back here when I visit Solvang.

Yelp
FOOD: - dirty fries (~$22): wish they were still waffle fries. The "regular" fries that they use now and very mushy and I didn't like that mushy taste/texture. It ruined the dish. I think this dish was overpriced for what it was. - cornbread skillet (~$8): didn't care for the jalapeño flavor in it. Other than that, wasn't very memorable. Very average. - Mac & cheese (~$22): my favorite of the three dishes. It has a kick so might not be a good option for kids. Good flavor and very cheesy. All these "shareable" dishes were just that - great for sharing. We shared among 3 adults and finished it all, but probably could've shared with a 4th person depending on how hungry everyone is. PRICE: if you're eating a shareable dish alone, it might be a lil expensive. But, if you're sharing it, it's a bit more reasonable. SERVICE: the hostess, ruby, was great! Very friendly and she remembered who you were.. 1 star just for her. Servers were ok. I hardly even remember the guy who helped us. Friendly enough, but not very attentive. Had to wait about 20 min for a table of 5 on a Saturday around 4:30 in August. They will text you, so you can walk around and explore while waiting. AMBIANCE/VIBE: ate outside, so not sure what the inside looks like. The chairs were not comfortable and left deep lines/grooves in my legs. You kinda sink down so the table felt really tall. I'm 5'3" soo it may be more comfortable/less noticeable for taller folks. But, I felt like a kid at the table. LOCATION: it's a little hidden, but Google Maps will get you there. It's in a little courtyard with a windmill thing (like a metal one you see on a farm, not a European style one). Overall, I was only visiting Solvang for the day so I doubt I would be back. I would recommend it though, depending on what kind of food you're looking to eat.

Yelp
A great patio and yummy bbq and salads. We had a wonderful server named Dakota who was funny and good with our large party of 13. Best dishes: pulled pork, brisket, and beet salad. Free parking behind. Oh and the patio has misters: great for a hot day!

Yelp
Uhhhh let me start off by saying BEST bbq I have ever had. The food here is AMAZING! I got the brisket and my boyfriend got a variety of meats, yeah we were in heaven eating here. Plus we ate outside and it was nice and they had a great ambiance/decor. When we have our little get away again we are definitely coming back :)

Yelp
We enjoyed drinking whiskey and eating some fried guilty pleasure's a few days ago at W&R. We sat outside on their patio on a beautiful day. This was a perfect setting to drink some fine brown booze. We tried their Whistlepig flight(12, 15, 18, and 25 year), and then additionally tried a few hard to find whiskeys. We really enjoyed our experience. They have a pretty deep selection of domestic and international whiskeys including Pappy's and other hard to find selections. Their fried pickle chips and Cajun fries were great salty snacks to offset the whiskey. Ashley was our server and was very attentive. We loved this place and highly recommend this restaurant for whiskey appreciators.

Yelp
Nice place tucked away a little hidden. Made reservations and definitely needed. Lots of people kept coming as we were there. Sat outside on their patio and server came and took our drink orders quickly. She also made a good recommendation to go with the tequila old fashioned. Very good Being my wife and I are dieting we choose the BBQ Trio Sampler to share. Hickory smoked baby back 1/2-rack, 12-hour hickory smoked brisket, hickory smoked pulled pork tossed in Carolina Gold BBQ sauce It was plenty for the two of us. Ribs were fall off the bone tender but the meat still had a little bite to it, which I like. Pulled pork and brisket were also very good. Server did forget a bottle of sparkling water my wife ordered but overall the service and meal were very good. Well worth the visit.

Yelp
We found this gem on our anniversary trip. We hadn't been to Solvang in a bit but we were so nicely surprised with a few new places to enjoy. I have written reviews on a few of the other places went. All were awesome!

Yelp
Oh. My. GAWD! This place is a must! Stopped here with my husband, Mom, and dog on our way to Pismo for the weekend and we are so glad we did. It's pretty rare that all three of us LOVE what we had but it happened here. My husband had the fried chicken sandwich and mac and cheese, I had the beet salad (dear lord this was FABULOUS!), and my mom had the grilled romaine with chicken. Everything was absolutely delish!! Plenty of food, no one was left hungry. Beautiful presentations. Just yummy, yummy, yummy! We had our dog with us too and it was no problem to sit on the patio with her. They even brought her a big bowl of ice water (and she loves ice!). We will absolutely be back next time we're in town. Don't miss this place!

Yelp
What an excellent find! Some of the best BBQ I've had. With a friend and we split the very sizable Grilled Romaine and the BBQ Sampler Trio. The place was full on a Thursday evening. Large outdoor patio. Spacious interior. Jake was our server and took very good care of us - ever attentive. I had never had grilled romaine. The texture and taste were great. Large, crispy croutons, a massive Parmesan crisp, and an anchovy vinaigrette dressing. I'm normally not an anchovy person, but these were not overpowering and were thoroughly blended in. Wonderful! But the meat is what will bring me back. The trio consisted of a half slab of baby back ribs, brisket, and pulled pork. As expected, the meat fell off the rib bones. But there was something about the flavor and sauce that was just too good. The tender brisket was easily cut with a fork, though a large steak knife was provided. Again, the taste was so good! The pulled pork was also tender and delicious, but needed some of the barbecue sauce to bring out the flavor. Two sides were included, and we chose the Elote Corn Quarters (one full ear, quartered) and the Beer Battered Onion Rings. The former having that wonderful cheese coating, competing with the ribs for which will make you lick your fingers more. The latter were large fresh rings with the perfect batter - not overly greasy. Parking is free and easy in the adjacent lot. And it's just 3 mi off the 101. So I will definitely hit this anytime I'm heading on a trip North.

Yelp
A half block off the beaten path, this hidden gem is worth seeking out. They have the best BBQ in the area. I've had the brisket sandwich, the pulled pork sandwich and the beast burger. The food is great, but ask for extra BBQ souse, it's really good. The service is great. Servers are friendly and the food came fast and hot. This is my go-to place in Solvang.

Yelp
This restaurant has to be my highlight of my trip to solvang. It was so delicious everything was amazing!! From the salads to the salmon to some of the best tasting ribs I've had! The bbq beans were AMAZING. We sat outside but were surrounded with heaters so it didn't feel bad at all . If you're ever in town you have to come here and check it out! Macaroni and cheese was delicious too! Staff was very friendly and attentive . I'll be back next time im in town

Yelp
This is a cute little spot nestled in the heart of Solvang. We dined here on a Wednesday evening. The weather was amazing so we sat out in the patio area. It was spacious and there were cute lights strung along the patio. The server was amazing. She was kind enough to offer up great suggestions when we couldn't decide and she was super sweet. The food was delicious!!! If I had a bigger appetite I would have ordered more. The location can't be beat. There was free parking around back and it was within walking distance to all the main shops in solvang.

Yelp
Ambience = excellent Nice outdoor patio. Space heaters and umbrellas. Server very friendly and prompt Jasmin!!! Food = fantastic. We ordered the trio of ribs, pulled pork and brisket. With 2 sides. Absolutely enough for 2 or 3 people. Meats didn't require a knife. So smoky & tender. Highly recommend a meal here

Yelp
Overall, I had a good experience at Whiskey N Rye Steakhouse. The service was solid, with a friendly and attentive staff. I ordered the 8oz ribeye, which unfortunately came out a bit overcooked when I had asked for medium rare. The side Caesar salad was average, but the mac and cheese was a definite highlight--rich and flavorful. The standout for me, though, was the street-style corn--absolutely delicious! They also have a great selection of whiskeys and bourbons, making it a solid spot for drinks. Centrally located and worth a visit if you're in the area.

Yelp
Honestly surprised at all of these positive reviews about the food because it was such a mediocre experience for me. We ordered the bbq beast burger and brisket fries. Both were just ok. The burger was dry and didn't really have a taste. The brisket was pretty much the same. If they were like $10 then I would understand but they are way overpriced for the quality. We could've tried a different restaurant instead. Maybe I am spoiled since I live in an area with amazing food. The customer was amazing and the drink we ordered was also pretty good. The food - I do not recommend.

Yelp
What a warm, welcoming, homey spot for dinner. Located in town within walking distance of all the hotels. Loved our dinner! The portions are large, so consider sharing. I wasn't a fan of my drink, so I think they could work on that - I was hoping it would be light and refreshing but it was crazy bitter and strong.

Yelp
10/10!! Great food and great service! The chicken sandwich was the star of the show, but everything was great tasting so that says a lot. Make a reservation in advance if you can!
