This is the World’s Best Exhibition Worth Travelling For in 2026, According to Time Out

Once an industrial site, this venue is one of five brilliant spaces taking part in the 25th Biennale of Sydney, forming part of a city-wide showcase that promises impressive, moving and thought-provoking art. In 2026 it will host works centred around the theme of ‘rememory’, inviting artists and audiences to revisit and reconstruct marginalised personal, familial and collective histories that have otherwise been forgotten, all as part of a free-to-visit biennale experience running from March 14 to June 14. - Liv Kelly

Visiting White Bay Power Station was a good experience. We came here for the Power Up Festival, which included an art show, live music, history, food, and drink. I feel that the station is an iconic part of the Inner West and integral to the history of Sydney. I would recommend anyone to come and explore the site and gain an understanding of a significant part of life in the past. I really like the renovation and rejuvenation of the station. It was well worth the visit!

What a treat it was to finally get back inside White Bay Power Station. Kudos to the NSW Labor Government for restoring this spectacularly beautiful building, and in particular choosing not to gut it, so we can see the steampunk remnants of its former usage. I attended the opening night run by the Biennale of Sydney, who created an art trail through the two largest spaces: the boiler house and the turbine hall. To be honest, the art was good, but at times it got in the way of seeing the architectural bones of this amazing building. I did enjoy the projections on the outside of the building, and the up-lighting on the chimneys. Looking forward to seeing more of the building as more events roll out across the year. So excited that public access has been granted to this unexplored part of Sydney’s history.

The power station has finally been transformed into an amazing events venue. Biennale, Ministry of Sound and Power Up Festival were all excellent, and well complemented by the restoration and adaptation of the heritage power station. Enough old infrastructure retained to showcase the industrial heritage, and enough removed to make it a functional public space. Now my new favourite venue in Sydney, can’t wait for the next event!

Great addition to Sydney’s art scene, the newly opened White Bay Power Station provides an awesome backdrop for expansive artworks with an industrial backdrop. Thankfully much of the building’s historic features have been retained, including the old turbine and other plant/equipment. It is hard to imagine that this was a fully functioning power station until the mid-1980’s.

The recently opened White Bay Power Station is currently hosting part of the 2024 Sydney Art Biennale. It's a great place to visit. It blends the vivid colors of the exhibited art with the dreary drab of the bricks of the old power station. Much of the exhibited art takes advantage of the high ceilings of the station to dramatic effect. Huge is in. Size really matters.

Wow!! Just opened in 2024, the White Bay Power Station is a really special place to visit and see the old industrial scale of the power station. The old engineering equipment is really worth seeing. Currently it is also housing the Biennale Sydney festival which had amazing artworks and installations. Highly recommended to visit this place. Check out the photos. There is also a free shuttle between QVB in the city.

The newly opened historical heritage site of White Bay PS is a triumph! The building and its presentation are superb and it now holds a majesty comparable to the former industrial spaces on Cockatoo Island. The only downside is the cafe/bar. It’s very limited in terms of options and very very expensive. As there are no nearby eateries, come prepared…..

Biennale of Sydney was good here but Ministry of Sound was great. The future of the White Bay Power Station should be dedicated to live music, a nightclub and DJs. It’s a monumental building and the sound, atmosphere and sight lines are already fantastic. It would be great if the Biennale of Sydney returns to Cockatoo Island. It’s such a fun day trip and a good use of the Turbine Hall there.
