What a treat it was to finally get back inside White Bay Power Station. Kudos to the NSW Labor Government for restoring this spectacularly beautiful building, and in particular choosing not to gut it, so we can see the steampunk remnants of its former usage.
I attended the opening night run by the Biennale of Sydney, who created an art trail through the two largest spaces: the boiler house and the turbine hall. To be honest, the art was good, but at times it got in the way of seeing the architectural bones of this amazing building. I did enjoy the projections on the outside of the building, and the up-lighting on the chimneys. Looking forward to seeing more of the building as more events roll out across the year. So excited that public access has been granted to this unexplored part of Sydney’s history.
