"There’s a lot to love about this imposing 15th-century chantry house. There’s the three-storey, vaulted dining room for starters, joined by a cosy open-fired bar and a minstrels’ gallery, while outside you’ll find a terrace, a vegetable garden and an outdoor kitchen with wood-fired oven. The cooking is guided by their own seasonal produce, with both British and Mediterranean influences on the flavoursome, carefully prepared dishes. The friendly service team run the restaurant well." - Michelin Inspector

We visited the White Hart for a Sunday lunch and had high hopes, especially given its fantastic location right on the river. However there is no allocated parking but we managed to find a spot nearby. We had booked ahead and were lucky to get a table on the balcony - the views were absolutely lovely, and the setting really makes this place stand out. The pub itself is full of character – a beautiful old building over 300 years old, spread across several floors, and the atmosphere both inside and outside was warm and welcoming. Toilets were clean too, which is always a good sign. The drinks menu was impressive, with a great selection of lagers and ciders, and everything we ordered was spot on. The main letdown, unfortunately, was the food. We ordered a mix of Sunday roasts – beef, chicken, and vegetarian – as well as the rabbit terrine. My friends enjoyed the terrine, but all of us were disappointed by the roasts. While the meat and vegetables were cooked well, the dishes were completely overpowered by black pepper. It felt like seasoning had gone overboard, and the Yorkshire puddings were actually burned, which was disappointing as well. Service was a bit slow – we waited quite a while both to place our food order and then again for the food to arrive. By the time the food came, I didn’t bother sending anything back. Then we just went to the bar to pay as the waiters were quite busy. It’s a real shame, as the pub itself is gorgeous and in such a prime spot, but sadly, the food didn’t live up to expectations on this visit. Would return for drinks and the view, but probably not for the roast.

The White Hart is a wonderful place! I described it to a friend as “a cuddle to the soul”…and it couldn’t be truer! Atmosphere wise is 10 stars, the food was delicious, had Sunday roast, and the staff was lovely too, so attentive. First time of many coming back here. Just wonderful, thank you!!! 😍🥰

I’m not a great fan of pubs food, I didn’t order, I can’t comment. The drinks we had were great, service very good and professional, the place full of locals , the view amazing and was very clean. I’m not a local but I went two times during the weekend.

The White Hart, Barnes – A Great Spot by the River I had a really lovely experience at The White Hart in Barnes this weekend. The location is absolutely beautiful — right on the river, with great views and a really peaceful vibe. It’s the kind of place where you could happily sit for hours, especially on a sunny day. The food was really good — tasty, well-cooked, and just what you'd hope for from a nice pub. Nothing too fancy, but definitely satisfying. What really made the visit stand out, though, was the service. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and everything just felt easy and welcoming. If you're in the area and looking for a relaxed spot with good food and a great riverside setting, I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

Absolutely fantastic! Really neat traditional pub with circle bar. Good amount of table and chairs inside and out with amazing river views. Food is outstanding. Ordered the sausages and blue cheese croquettes - enjoyed every mouth full. Popular spot so safer to book

Traveled up to Barnes to watch the Quintin Head and had the WH recommended as a perfect vantage point serving excellent food. I wasn’t disappointed on either count. Beautiful location looking out over the Thames and the food and service were excellent. I made a call ahead of travelling to ask about parking and Stuart was extremely helpful giving me several options. Returning again in February!

Google
The best pub in Barnes, exceptional service 7 days a week. Extremely well managed, nothing is a problem. Courteous, accommodating and every team member is punching above to make the best experience. Held many a business meeting and social and just never fails to perform. 5*

SO, we usually don’t bother going out for roasts because my mum makes the best ones…. But boy oh boy am I glad we did. Stewart the manager has totally revived this place! It’s always been a fab location, but now the food and service finally matches and even exceeds it. We had the Sunday roast lamb and pork belly. Perfectly cooked lamb, caramelised to perfection with bags of flavour and succulent pork belly, with proper crackling and a gorgeous buttery crispy little boat of heaven in the form of a Yorkshire pudding. Looked after very sweetly by the very competent and friendly Natasha. We’ll be back! Jan and Tiffany

Yelp
Lovely view, terrible food. While there's no denying the prime location of this pub, the food is ridiculously overpriced and poor quality. Our salads were supposed to be poached peach w feta and pomegranate-the peach was straight out of a tin and there were hardly any pomegranate seeds, four tiny pieces of feta and the leaves were old and brown. We complained and were given free coffee but at £15 per salad this is just not good value.

Yelp
White Hart Barnes is located on the River Thames in the Chiswick, SW London. The views of the Thames on their patio are absolutely beautiful. They also have tables down on the River as well. Their beers are cold and they also have great cocktails on the menu. I had a smoked salmon with a poached egg on sourdough toast. It was absolutely delicious!! For dessert we had a Yorkshire pudding, it was fantastic! Good prices. I would definitely recommend coming here.

Yelp
After Sunday mass went to Orange Pekoe for a late breakfast. Unfortunately, no tables were available for 40 minutes. However, looking across the street there was the White Hart Pub. Empty when we walked in at noon. They had just opened. Glad we decided to stay. The place filled up quickly. The fish and chips were really good. Huge portion of cod. Served chips instead of french fries The drat beer was nice and cold. No complaints from me.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I decided to try out Ye White Hart after seeing it featured on MasterChef as the place where finalist Tom Whitaker was plying his trade these days The menu looked good and we were impressed by the pub's location right by the river. However, in the empty 90 cover restaurant, we were surprised to be seated away from the river and had to be asked if we could sit at a table to enjoy the river view, surely one of the main selling points of the restaurant We then learned that Tom had left the restaurant the previous month but no matter, the menu still looked promising My starter of smoked egg French toast, wild mushrooms and duck hearts was the best dish of the evening. The best bit was the superbly earthy mushrooms and the duck hearts were lovely and meaty even if the portion size was a little mean The smoked duck ham with orange marmalade didn't really gain anything from being made from duck and seemed to be lacking another dimension to balance the dish out. Perhaps duck skin crackling for a little crunch The girlfriend's sirloin steak could also have done with a little gravy to finish off the dish My main of pigeon, cavolo nero, date purée and hazelnuts read well on the menu and was OK but the pigeon's gamey flavour seemed a little muted The meal did end on a high with a lovely plum & frangipane tart with orange cream. Light and fresh, it was a yummy mouthful This venue has great potential - lovely location and a large airy dining room. The menu is ambitious but overall, the dishes need a little finessing. I was debating between a score of 3 and 4 but the final score of 3 was because I can't see myself returning here

Yelp
A victim of its own popularity, Ye White Hart concluded my weekend of waiting and waiting and waaaaaaaaaiiiiitttttting for food. However, the drinks were strong, the OJ was pulpiriffic, the outdoor seating was plentiful, the staff was apologetic (and pretty damn funny), and the weather could not have been better. Once Matt and Phil had the ingenious idea of buying bar snacks, I was a happy (albeit hungry) boozer. Granted, a few other things got in the way of an ideal afternoon of boozy enjoyment... 1. The tide came in. Seriously, I'm I just the blondest one in the room or did other people not know that that happen with rivers? 2. The weather wasn't warm enough to sit in the shade, but it was far too tantalizing sitting inside, so pouncing on a table became a full time preoccupation. (Only to finally find one and get washed out by the incoming tide.) 3. The food that did arrive wasn't worth the wait. The never-to-be-named fish of the day turned out bland and bony, the bbq was high on delicious smells but didn't live up to the tantalization. 4. 2 hours. No food. Seriously. But even with all that, I left in a fantastic blur -- good friends in tow, happily going on about the fantastic weather, beautiful views, and cozy vibe of the entire establishment. So there was definitely something good in the mix.

Yelp
Make sure if you are allergic to mayonnaise don't order battered fish because it has mayonnaise inside the batter. The best thing about this pub is its location, but expect it to get very crowded when the Oxbridge boat race is on. They replaced their sign with one that looks silly.

Yelp
I've lived in Barnes for 14 years and this pub has experienced such a transformation. Just a few years ago, it was run by a surly landlord, the tables and chairs were sticky and uncomfortable, and NO KIDS were allowed (not even my 3mo infant). It's now bright, light, comfortable and staffed by a pretty good crew. The takeover of The Terrace Kitchen by a former Masterchef finalist was the icing on the cake for me and it's now our preferred local. We love to have Sunday lunch with friends there. You can pre-order your roast (75 or 95ozs), and it's brought to the table for you to carve, and served with all the trimmings. We've done this enough that we now know to place lots of napkins around the board to catch the juices, else the carver ends up with a lap full of stuff! I really cannot recommend it enough, for value, for ambiance, and for sheer deliciousness. But don't go there - I don't want you to steal all the available bookings!

Yelp
3.5 stars + disclaimer: I was here at the same time as Laura N! Ok -- Ye White Hart has one seriously big plus point going for it -- the river Thames (at one of its most picturesque points) running right past it. This, plus a pretty good bar service, added to very good company, means that if you're coming here to drink on a beautiful Spring Sunday afternoon with friends, you can read this review as 4* without any hesitation whatsoever. There is the mild late afternoon hazard of the Thames invading the towpath, which, given the perilous perching proximity of some of the benches to the edge of the Thames at mid-tide, can result in wet feet at high tide and a mass exodus to higher ground! The problems come with food. Y'see, Ye White Hart was kind-of busy this afternoon. The sort of afternoon which will drag people to a pub by the river in the same way moths tend to be attracted to lights. And everyone had the same idea that ordering food at about 2pm would be a Radical and Awesome Idea. Now, to me, it doesn't seem like rocket science that this would be the likely behaviour of customers on a day like today, but it appears that it took Ye White Hart by surprise. While some of our party's food did arrive -- eventually -- after a VERY protracted wait -- we gave up after two hours (Srsly. TWO hours!) for the rest of it and asked for our money back; which, to their credit, the staff arranged without any quibble. Not having partaken in the food which did arrive, I can't really comment on it... but my understanding is that "nothing special" would be a fair statement. So -- as I said... if you're coming here to drink on a beautiful Spring Sunday afternoon -- it's a 4* pub. However, I wouldn't recommend ordering any food; an unfortunate blotch on the landscape for an establishment which could be a major success if it gets its act together.

Yelp
It's amazing, really, how this place managed to finagle three stars out of four separate Yelpers who had the same abysmal food service experience, being in the out-of-the-way location of Barnes and allowing many in our party to go hungry for hours and hours. It earned those three stars, however, for being so big, looking so inviting and swanky (yet in a strangely downbeat sort of way), serving up some good drinks and being generally as cute as can be in its picturesque Barnes almost-IN-the-river locale. Sure, I've had better meals in dingy dives in the centre of London with food hygeine ratings of objectionable merit, but I would choose the Ye White Hart as my drinking spot on a beautiful Sunday afternoon anytime, despite the hour-long journey it takes to get there. And that's saying something. I'd just make sure to eat at home.

Yelp
All of my 3 stars go to the White Hart's aesthetics alone. The location can't really be beat, since I wouldn't say it was "on" the river, so much as "almost within" it. Man, that high tide wouldn't quit! While it recently had a makeover of epic proportions (I remember coming here a few months ago and being disappointed at it's interior and food selection), the service was terrible. And the so-called new exciting BBQ menu... well, half of us waited an hour and a half for mediocre fish, burger, and roasted veggies, while the other half waited two hours and didn't get ANYTHING! They need to sort out their staffing and food service issues, and then maybe they'll get an extra star. The good news is, Laura N and Larissa D were refunded their money for the non-existent food they ordered, while I received a free vodka cran! (Not that I needed it...)

Yelp
Ok, so I'll join the 3 star party. Hang on, I did, and it's finished, and Laura, Matt, Larissa and Molly were all there. And they all had very similar views (each other) and opinions. That is: This pub is a pub and not really of the gastro variety. It has a lot going for it, like the size, location, sky tv, good selection of drinks etc. but the food is neither great nor forthcoming. Go and sit by the river (during low tide) on a nice afternoon and have a few drinks. Don't, however, turn up on a Monday night at 7 to watch the football and expect to eat there as well. Go on a full stomach. Well, with a teeny bit of room for the awesome spicy McCoys.

Yelp
One of my favourite pubs in London. The ale selection is fine and the atmosphere is splendid. The river views from 3 storys make this pub an ideal place to be between about 6-8pm during the summer months, as thats when the sun is shining perfectly. If you are wanting to be with the common people however, this is not the pub. Most of the patrons are undoubtedly Tory voting, cake eating, 4wd driving, Richmond living Toffs. And the food is rubbish. It is overpriced and under served (small portion size). The BBQ though is great if you want a sausage sizzle. If you want a good pint of ale by the river in a cosy pub with views of lush West London, The White Hart is 5 stars!

Yelp
This place is a great place to be on a sunny day after enjoying time along the Thames path. Great outdoor deck with a BBQ and good riverside tables. Take in a pitcher of Pimms. The food is fine--nothing to write home about and it is pricey for what it is. A small halloumi salad with hummus was 14 pounds if I remember correctly. Ouch! The inside of the pub is quite nice. So proceed with low expectations and your own risk but enjoy the sun deck.

Yelp
The food and service in this pub is shocking. No kids menu either. I had a burger that was cold and overlooked. The waitress couldn't have cared less. So many good choices round there, this pub isn't worth your time or money

Yelp
Discussing service we had our 15 year old son with us on New Year's Eve and we got kicked out before we could fined our drinks. The food was gristly and the chips were soggy I wouldn't waste your time I'd rather go to the brown dog around the corner

Yelp
I have been visiting the White Hart every summer for many years. It is very comforting to see that it is still a traditional pub. Why change a winning formula! Its main attraction in the summer is its lovely balcony with a view across the Thames (mind you, the nearby bridge is under repair and a bit of an eyesore at the moment). There is further outdoor seating right by the river. It's North facing and the landlords very kindly provide blankets! The perfect stopover for a walk or cycle ride along the river. Which is exactly what we did on Saturday. The food was freshly prepared on the BBQ, the menu somewhat basic with an emphasis on burgers. The portions are rather basic with just a bun, piece of meat, dollop of relish and a handful of lettuce leaves. Very annoying if you forget to order chips (which are of the rather boring, thin and double-fried variety). The staff were exceptionally nice!

Yelp
Loved it. My fave pub in London. Old school feel, nice views, beer garden, friendly bartenders, reasonable prices. Delightful.

Yelp
Ye White Hart is a nice traditional pub on the Lonsdale road overlooking the river Thames. It has large central bar which goes out onto a lovely terrace area where there are bbq's in the summer. There are also bench tables downstairs on the towpath alongside the river. It has a large private function room ideal for parties or meetings.

Yelp
Great pub for all the seasons. If it's warm (or just sunny), then enjoy a drink on the balcony overlooking the river, or grab a table on the pavement below (if the tide allows) during the summer for a casual drink on the waterfront. In the winter, it's great to hang out in one of the cozy chairs by the window, filling your view with the river and the green park areas on the other side. The bar is an oval in the centre of the room and the place is quite smartly done, making you feel like you are in a nice country pub. There is a dining/restaurant section upstairs which I'm sure is great if you're with a big party, but given the choice I wouldn't want to eat up there. There's just too much life downstairs for that. I often stop in here for a pint (or two) as a halfway reward for taking a walk along the river. If you're not travelling by foot or bicycle, then Barns Bridge station is just a 2-3min walk away.... no rewards for arriving that way, but the drinks will taste equally good ;)
