The 19 Best Restaurants In Homestead - Miami - The Infatuation

"White Lion Cafe feels like an antique store in an old Florida home that happens to serve meatloaf on tables covered with floral tablecloths. This delightfully unhinged restaurant is mostly a lunch spot—but they do dinner on Friday nights from 5pm till (according to the sign outside) "[the] fat lady sings." There are enough cats on the back patio to start a riot with a laser pointer, and the menu has the kind of comfort food a grandmother might make you for a 2pm dinner. Think fried chicken with a ball of mashed potatoes and fried broccoli with thick ranch. If it’s available, you finish your early dinner/late lunch with a massive coconut cake for dessert." - virginia otazo, ryan pfeffer

White Lion Cafe - Review - Homestead - Miami - The Infatuation

"White Lion Cafe feels like an antique store in an old Florida home that happens to serve meatloaf on tables covered with floral tablecloths. Also, the Christmas decorations are left up year-round. This delightfully unhinged Homestead restaurant is mostly a lunch spot—with dinner on Friday nights from “5pm till [the] fat lady sings,” and enough cats on the back patio to start a riot with a laser pointer. It serves the kind of comfort food your grandmother would make you for a 2pm dinner. Think fried chicken with a ball of mashed potatoes and fried broccoli with thick ranch. If you want to pretend you’re a billionaire looking for a midnight snack, order the p.j. and dom—which they claim is the world’s largest peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It also comes with a bottle of champagne for a mere $200. We didn’t get it, but we do think you should order the much more reasonably priced (yet still massive) coconut cake for dessert. photo credit: Cleveland Jennings / @eatthecanvasllc" - Virginia Otazo

White Lion Café isn’t just a restaurant: it's an experience that feels like eating at Grandma's house, where the portions are big and the ambience feels like home. My Popeye’s Spinach Salad, fresh as a morning breeze and loaded with lean grilled chicken, onions, feta, zucchini, squash, cucumbers, and a perfectly cooked egg, was a testament to clean eating without sacrifice; I opted for olive oil and lemon for dressing, and I sprinkled some black pepper on top of my salad to give it a bit more zest. My wife’s Sweet Chicken Sandwich was a crispy, indulgent creation from the specials menu; it was the kind of sandwich that was so good you get sad when it's gone off the dinner plate, leaving only crumbs: unapologetic, crave-worthy, and real. Shelby and Tiffany delivered the kind of attentive, authentic service you can’t fake, and even the manager, Lory, stepped out to ensure we were taken care of; a rare and beautiful experience of extra care and hospitality. Two incredible meals, five-star service, and the total bill, even with tip, floated under fifty dollars. A steal. A sanctuary. A place worth returning to.

Cool uuu

Google
I liked the place. The food was nothing extraordinary, but it was exemptionaly good. The service was great, but it was a pretty long wait. Loved the atmosphere, though. Overall, if you're looking for a calm and chill place to talk for a while, I would highly recommend this.

Google
Absolutely loved this restaurant. The menu is quite diverse. The food was freshly prepared and delicious. Service was excellent. It is a very homey, welcoming atmosphere. Prices were very reasonable. I definitely will be going back.

Google
Literally wow. Best fish tacos I’ve ever had and best chicken wrap. Best experience. DO NOT let other people veer you away from this place with silly complaints about service. The staff was cool, and the food was unreal. All around American comfort-style meals in a quaint little converted home. 10/10/10

Google
I've tried many times to come here and I can never get the times right. Finally the day aligned ! So glad we went , cozy hidden place and delicious. I would say it's comfort food I will definitely comeback to try other dishes , fyi The onion soup amazing !!!!

My wife and I used to come here for special occasions. Food was always good. Recently it has seemed to drop in quality. Shortened menu and food not quite as good as in past years (but still ok). I had the crab cake entree but did not like it paired with the Hollandaise sauce they pour over it. My wife normally orders the Romanian Tenderloin but that wasn't available so she ordered the shrimp pasta which was good. Sweet tea is good here. Again, the food wasn't bad and the owners work hard but it's not what it once was Hopefully they can turn it around because we really enjoy this place.

Google
The food was delicious. The service was slow, and even though they weren't full, the waitress seemed overwhelmed or uninterested in being prompt. She was very slow and we didn't see many other customers. The chicken salad croissant special was delicious, although the chunks should have been smaller. We gooey brownies were good but they needed the ice cream to sweeten the dark chocolate.

A must visit in South Florida. This is a unique and original jewel. The food is fresh and perfectly cooked. Ingredients are too notch. The Chef makes excellent food and the menu is exceptional and delicious. There is plenty of free parking. The decorations are unique and extremely interesting. The service is very friendly. The desserts are exceptionally good. This is a must visit. I will be returning to this restaurant to try the whole menu.

Yelp
I love the food there. I've been going there for a long time not as often as I would like. The food is fresh, a great variety of dishes, delicious desserts. Service is good and ambiance is pleasant.

Yelp
A most unwelcoming environment. We were recently on a 100 mile bicycle trip to the Keys and decided to stop here for lunch. We arrived at 11a and saw that it was advertised as open. We rode into the parking lot on the west side and entered the back patio with our bicycles through the open entrance. There were no guests at this time, so I went inside to inquire about service. I apparently surprised the staff as I overheard a 'WTF is he doing here comment from the kitchen' and was immediately told that they were closed, but when she looked at the clock said, 'Oh, I guess we're open'. It was 11:05am. We asked if we could sit outside since we had our bicycles and were told ok. Once we get to the patio, we were asked to move the bikes so we don't block any tables. Fair enough request, and she suggests near a railing away from the table, but then says she needs to call the manager to see if we can have the bikes there. It's then suggested that we move the bikes to the back near the kitchen entrance where employees park their bikes, totally out of sight. We are also told that we need to go through the front entrance and not the back. At this point there are no other guests except for us. The impression was that we were not welcome to be there and they were not ready to prep and serve. At this point we decided it was best to find another option. In addition to bicycling, I am active with several large motorcycle riding groups and this location was on the destination list. At this point I have to say this place is 'Off the List'.

Yelp
After 4 years we tried the White Lion Cafe for dinner once again. The food as always is plentiful and delicious home cooked food in a warm and inviting atmosphere. The difference this time was there was not 100 cats roaming around you and handful of cat food in every corner or on the tables which was a nice welcome this time compared to last time. The service was impecable and we look forward to returning again real soon.

Yelp
Sadly disappointed & I see 3 Health Violations. My mom's favorite lunch spot, so she recommended it for my husband's birthday dinner. We made reservations because of all the popular reviews. He ordered the 14 oz Rib Eye Steak w/ Shrimp Scampi cooked Medium. This was not 14oz - maybe 6-7oz, and it was Rare and submerged in lemon juice. The Shrimp was good just no garlic. My mom & I ordered a dish called "Mother's Wish"; Lobster, Scallops, and Shrimp atop bed of Angel Hair & Spinach with a Cheesy Cream Sauce. My mom instantly made comments about the dish drowning in sauce, and went hunting for the Scallops. At $35. a plate you think you'll find at least one. Never found the Lobster in either plate, 1 dime size piece of scallop in hers, and lovely Shrimp with overcooked Angel Hair. I guess the fresh spinach at the bottom was for texture? However the sauce was tasteless white sauce and poured thickly over the entire plate. Once we were done with our shrimp, we were all 3 of us poking forks through our meals to find something to eat. When a server came over, my mom was too embarrassed to say anything, as was my husband- but knowing this and the fact we would be billed a minimum of $35 a plate, I had to say something. I explained, "that with all the reviews and my mom's praises, maybe our expectations were too high? But our dishes were absent scallops and lobster, too much sauce, which is bland, and my husband's steak is raw, what happened?" The server said, "the Owner was cooking and she was having a tough time" And an older server came just then and asked, "what we'd like to replace it with ?" But with the knowledge that it's a cook that is absent- who wants to experiment? Strangely, both servers left looking insulted. The older one came back with to-go containers, and said they would credit us one meal. We have dogs, so mom & husband boxed theirs. I took a picture of the Rib Eye that was titled as 14oz, but you can see the thickness would not represent that title, nor would cooked Medium. You can imagine how many times my mom apologized. And I know we were not the only disappointed customers March 16th, unless they had the corned beef dish, those folks looked satisfied, but then that's a hard dish to mess up. We didn't order it because mom's making it for us Sunday the 17th. I've only ever given a one star review once before and I was not going to review at all, until I saw the Health Violations.

Yelp
Such a sweet spot! Food was great! Services a tad slow but the food was so good we didn't care. Got nice glasses of cold Sauvignon blanc to go with our shrimp appy. The mahi dinner was excellent and the tenderloin cooked exactly as requested. Side of mashed and some veggies and we were happy. Nice kitties come to visit.

Yelp
Came here for lunch. Had the spiked iced tea as a drink. Simply delicious. As for the meal had A great cheese steak sandwich was very good. Give the place a try for lunch on your way to the keys or visiting homestead. Service was excellent

Sandra L.

Yelp
Always good food specials are delicious. Desserts are incredible and the staff is always friendly and courteous.

Debra K.

Yelp
This is a quaint little restaurant and the inside area is full of antiques. The food is good and the servers are very friendly. There's a large outdoor section and a full bar. The only downside to this place is that it is only open on Friday nights for dinner, they are usually only open until 3 PM doing the rest of the week

Yelp
Very nice band playing on Saturday, but food service was below expectations in all ways... took forever to prepare the food, they missed a plate and quality was below average.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in all of Homestead!!! The Atmosphere especially outside dining is heavenly!!!! The food is always succeeds our Expectations!!! Add entertainment, 10 Stars on my Review!!!!

Ralph Y.

Yelp
Always amazing. The brisket was great my wife had the hog fish and it was better. Ended with the brownie and ice cream yum

Yelp
This place is around the corner from my office. My staff comes here all the time. I have never had a bad meal, everything is fresh and you can customize it anyway you want, the cookies are the size of your head and so good! I get their salads all the time. My favorite is the Philly chicken sandwich !! So good!

Tina S.

Yelp
My sister and I stopped in for dinner, and it was great. The food was delicious and well priced and the service was quick and very nice. This place is one spot.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Great surprise. Great menu. Great staff I had the Grilled Dolphin and Lynn had Chicken Salad Platter. Our sides were Potato Salad and fresh fruit. Excellent. Everything is homemade. Loved this place
google avatar

Cristian S.

Yelp
Little hole in the wall. I had no idea what this place Was about until my wife asked me to have lunch there once. Now I go without her.
google avatar

Yelp
So we decided that we didn't want to deal with going to Wynwood, Coral Gables or any of the usual place and headed south. This is an old homestead house turned into a restaurant and has been around for years. If you live north it's worth the drive. All our meals were generous in portion and delicious. The entertainment was a great guy on a guitar and was sat and sang and had a wonderful time. Looking for something different? This is a definite place to check out.

Yelp
Great food, awesome service and homey atmosphere. A fun place to visit in Homestead. Make sure to follow your GPS because it's in a hidden spot. Unfortunately I couldn't give them a five (and I hate when people do this) but if you are allergic or simply don't like cats - don't go because they are everywhere and definitely don't sit outside during mosquito season because you won't be able to enjoy the spectacular food because you'll be too busy slapping and scratching.

Yelp
Tried coming here but it was closed even though the sign was lit up it was down a dark street my better half was concerned.
google avatar

Wendy M.

Yelp
AMAZING! My husband got the fried chicken and he's still telling everyone how good it was. I got some shrimp, pasta dish that was very tasty and not overwhelmingly filling like in other places. For appetizers we got the shrimp, VERY spicy- keep that in mind if ordering it. The service was great. The decoration inside where we sat was very interesting. You can also sit outside.

Seena L.

Yelp
Have not eaten here in many years Stopped by for lunch Meatloaf does not come with gravy as advertised it comes with Au Ju . Because the meatloaf is so dry after it has been reheated on the grill too( you can see the marks) it needs real gravy. So does the mashed potatoes Kids liked the hamburger and the grilled chicken sandwich but the French fries need some seasoning salt they suggested. We will be back to try something different!! Service was good

Yelp
Great local place in homestead. The inside of this restaurant feels very welcoming and homey. The staffs are great and friendly. Great for lunch

Cheryl V.

Yelp
Food is amazing. I love this place. I love the local flare that they have and it's such an old building. That is amazing to see. I love the servers too. They're amazing.

Fred D.

Yelp
Good food in the past. Obvious issues in the kitchen right now. Atmosphere is great! Service is good.
google avatar

Emilio F.

Yelp
Excellent fresh food and excellent service. Will come back again to eat their Philly steak sandwich.
google avatar

Glenn C.

Yelp
We went for a birthday party (small party). They were happy to accommodate us and our needs. The food was good, the staff was friendly and we would definitely visit again.
google avatar

Jenna W.

Yelp
I had the best experience at White Lion Cafe. They are following all Covid-19 protocols. The staff is very friendly and had great recommendations. They have specials of the day and they bring the board right to your table. We ordered salads under $15 each. This is a hidden gem in homestead and I will definitely be back for more dining occasions.
google avatar

Missy G.

Yelp
Excellent menu, excellent service, great vibe and music ! Greta place for date night or family outing

Yelp
Place was beautifully decorated, great ambiance. Outdoor and indoor seating. Enjoyed visiting the resident cats. Good food and great service. Would definitely return when in the area.

Yelp
Funky little place off the beaten path, loved it! Unique, very homey, friendly. Everything very fresh, like we would cook at home. Warning, HUGE portions! We had the clams appetizer, garlicky and excellent! I had the blackened prime rib special, very good!
google avatar

Kelsea L.

Yelp
Lovely little restaurant tucked away in a corner of Homestead. A really awesome patio area too to enjoy the weather (they have events on weekends out there as well). Staff is kind and attentive- COVID19 precautions are in place too. Menu is Florida fresh: local fish, fresh vegetables, and yummy drinks :)
google avatar

Krista K.

Yelp
Loved it! Cute little restaurant off the main drag. Had the steak and salmon - both were fantastic! Only open on Friday's in the of season
google avatar

Matthew M.

Yelp
I remember when this place opened. It has a crafty menu served in large portions. Outside seating typically doesn't work in Homestead, Florida, especially when paying too dollar for food. I would say the service is below average and so is the food

Yelp
My husband and I were so excited to come here because we had heard such great things about this place! Boy we're disappointed! I'm rating it a 1 because the decor in the place was super cute! Our waitress was terrible! Young and super inexperienced! My husband ordered the medallion steak and not only was it served cold but our waitress never bothered to bring or offer him a steak knife, guess she thought a butter knife would do the trick! My prime rib sandwich was off the specials board and I agree with another review I read they could possibly be trying to get rid of old food, my sandwich was more like a pan con bistec (which I love those) but I wanted prime rib and honey my sandwich was in no way prime rib! I saw a picture of their prime rib online and my sandwich (which I will be posting a pic of) was no prime rib! Our 9 year old ended up getting the steak knife with her club sandwich (what's wrong with this picture) My husband was given my Au jois sauce for my sandwich and when I asked our waitress for bread rolls she just shrugged her shoulders and walked away Not to mention the shrimp appetizer the price is decent but honestly 5 skinny shrimp on a Barbie with 5 lbs of spinach and sautéed mushrooms is just not gonna cut it! Now if you would have added even 10 shrimp (same mini size) then it would have balanced out the 5 lbs of spinach just a lil but for $10.95 I will stick to the shrimp appetizer at Longhorn way better and you get more bang for your buck Overall this place is definitely more fufu than quality, the food is terribly seasoned or lack of any seasoning on some dishes and once again a tiny place where you can hear your neighbors conversation at the table next to you! No offense, but I don't want to hear the lady next to me whining about her calories and how she wants her veggie dish with no pasta for lunch I mean come on!!!!! I for one will sadly not be returning to this whatever the heck you wanna call it place and I live in the Redlands....

Harold S.

Yelp
Love the ambiance....inside and specially outdoors. We ate off the daily special menu. The clam chowder was delicious, not your typical New England chowder, I liked the corn kernels added. My wife had the tuna croissant, it was loaded with tuna salad and whole bacon strips...of course I took a bite and it was excellent; she had the potato salad instead of the fruit which was a good choice because it was really good...they give you the option of fruit, pasta salad or potato salad. I had the chicken artichoke wrap and it was out of this world, it was plentiful...I took half the wrap home with me. Our server was tops, she made sure we were taken care of. The servers would work as team to ensure a great lunch experience, I also liked the fact that they used a big daily special white board since the items are not on the menu. I was so stoked by the food I forgot to take pics of the food. We will definitely be back
google avatar

Christina S.

Yelp
Great place. Food was amazing and plentiful, wine pours were generous. The live music was such fun to listen to. We did not have a reservation and the hostess apologized for seating us so close to the entertainment but we thoroughly enjoyed it. Very nice outdoor area. Service was great.

Brenda G.

Yelp
I've been a very long-time resident of Homestead and know there are very few "mom & pop-type" restaurants left with a winning menu. The White Lion is one that I whole-heartedly recommend! Owner, Lori, is always willing to prepare my meal without any added salt, oil or sugar.
google avatar

Charlotte G.

Yelp
A pet friendly outdoor area is what initially brought us to the white lion cafe. The restaurant is not from the new downtown homestead. The staff was very friendly and helpful with great suggestions. We can't wait to come back and have another wonderful experience.

Leslie H.

Yelp
Very good and accommodating. Quirky place. They try to do gluten free if you ask. Portions are humongous!

Yelp
The White Lion Café was a spot I found completely on accident, but definitely some place I would tell people to try. It kind of has that feel of a country cabin. Like that aunt everyone has that decorates from Kirkland and Cracker Barrel. Am I the only one with that aunt? The feel of the place, to me, is home. The men's restroom is set up like a man cave; full of superhero signage and a working stop light. There's mouthwash there as well for that after meal kiss. The portions are huge. I got the pasta bowl which was noodles with literally every (fresh) vegetable possible. It was enormous. You could add chicken to it, which I did, but honestly, it was so large I really didn't need to. The vegetables tasted like they were picked from the garden that day. The drink cups were huge, which is always a plus to me. The service was great. Very friendly and welcoming, again, I feel like they want you to feel like you're eating your meal in their kitchen. It's such a cute spot. Perfect for a date or a nice family get together. There is both indoor and outdoor seating for those great Miami nights. It's a bit of a drink unless you live in South Miami, but it's kind of worth it.

Janice W.

Yelp
Everyone enjoyed their lunch. We had the meat loaf, best one yet. Sat outside in a covered area. 21 of us. Service was good.

Yelp
This place is so unique! We'll start off with the important things . The food and service is amazing! Thy have a variety of items and everything I have tried has been amazing . Good portion sizes and great food for a good price . Also it is a super unique environment , very personable so great for a date night . Small and quiet so you can here your date talk . They also have a beautiful outdoor dining area that is especially enjoyable during the winter .

Kathleen B.

Yelp
The food is really good. A little pricy but worth it. Small menu put you'll find something you want.
google avatar

Tracy B.

Yelp
got there early, but well worth the wait for them to open, had skirt steak with mushrooms and garlic, served over mashed potato's, my mum had the meatloaf with veggies and mashed potato's, both meals were excellent, atmosphere was very nice, has an outside area that sometimes has a band. Well worth going too

Dara G.

Yelp
The restaurant is adorable with such a warm and decorative welcome. The servers were so friendly and helpful! The food was delicious! With a A+ for presentation. Served hot too! Of course you must try a homemade dessert. 100% recommend.
google avatar

Kenny Z.

Yelp
Really enjoyed everything this cafe had to offer. Absolutely love how different the entire atmosphere is. That staff is extremely kind and provides great service. Food is very rich and tasty. Went with a group of four people, left as four very satisfied people who had completely different plates. Would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Dorcas C.

Yelp
We in on our way to Key Largo. What a wonderful dinner. Had the sautéed clams in garlic butter- clams were tender and the sauce was perfect. I got the rib eye with fried whole potato. Both were excellent My dinner companion had the New England clam chowder which she said was creamy. Her entree was the shrimp and mushroom over angel hair in a lemon butter sauce- also excellent. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. They have live music which added to the ambience
google avatar

Tom F.

Yelp
Great food, and the waitresses are always pleasing! It is a nice quaint place for a night out with the wife!

Yelp
This place is a homestead hidden gem. Incredibly friendly staff and amazing food. You can never go wrong with anything on the menu.

Linda C.

Yelp
Absolutely the best Grouper Oscar I have ever had. What a treat on a Friday night in Homestead it was. The pupu platter served 4 easily and I really enjoyed the crab wontons tons . The fish was better than a lot of the food we had in the Keys. This cafe is so charming and we were treated so kindly & efficiently that I can't wait to go back. It was amazing food, served with love.
