White Rhino

I loved everything about this bar! We had our family friends HPD retirement party on Saturday. I was so at ease with how attentive the bartenders were and just with how organized the bar was with having the event here. We had such a amazing time and definitely will be hosting our next event here!

I must say, I wish I could’ve gotten more pictures of the atmosphere in general of this place. It is well decorated and feels very welcoming. There’s plenty of space inside and outside to accommodate big crowds. The drinks are reasonably priced and are very tasty as well. Their “Just like Jalisco” drink was amazing. It is their take on the classic Paloma drink (if I’m not mistaken) and it is done just right. They’ve got food trucks on the patio which is nice when you’re looking for something to decoy your stomach after a couple of drinks. Friendly staff makes this place come together to create a congenial experience for new and returning clientele.

Cool place to hangout, chill and relax, & to have a few drinks. We will be going back. Fyi, the mules, the El Cubano, and michiladas were all good. Recommend them all. I've updated this review because I went back a few weeks later. Great place.

White Rhino is a spot I pass by frequently and have visited on many occasions. While it always serves its purpose of being a convenient stop for my friends and I to grab a quick drink on our way somewhere there are some simple ways in which I feel the business could be improved tremendously. For starters, every time I have been to White Rhino the inside has been extremely cold. Most recently, I stopped by on an evening where a cold front had come through and I kid you not, every ceiling fan and mounted oscillating fan was on and turned to high, as well as the AC noticeably blowing out cold air. This makes sense if the bar is packed but we were some of the only people there. Every drink I've had from white rhino has been very good, and the bartenders are always friendly and quick to serve, which is a huge plus. Additionally, the bar itself and the restrooms are always very clean. The drinks are a little on the pricier side, (most recently a round of two shots and two beers ran me $30.78 before tip), but from a trendy bar that's what I have come to expect. If you're in the mood for a quick drink I would recommend giving white rhino a look and trying for yourself. I will continue to give them my business and I look forward to potentially trying some of the food items they offer, but I do hope they correct some of the issues mentioned above.

Went on a summer night and it was wonderful! I had a mezcal cocktail that was exceptional! The patio was good and a DJ started playing at around 9. I would definitely return in the future!

Plenty of space with indoor and patio seating. Drinks were delicious and it was pretty empty for a Sunday Funday so we had our pick of the place.

Great late night party vibe. DJ was off the chain. Heard the music poppin' down the block. We closed down the place and then some, and Manager wasn't pushing us out the door. Bartenders prompt and drinks good. Definitely will visit again with a group and will try the food.

Oh luv this place! The ambiance was chill vibe. Great bartenders, great drinks, affordable nice outdoor seating and parking was easy. They don't serve food, however El Charro is next door.

Ambiance: there was a dj and it was slow thursday night. But that didn't stop us from having a good time. There was probably less than 10 people and I like H town folks dont need a large crowd to have a great time. Service: We pretty much had the bars to our selves. They were there when we needed them. Drinks: It's a full bar, drinks, shots and beer. I wish they had some cider (my preference). This placed was tucked away from the city and plenty of lot parking and street parking.

We went to White Rhino for a friend's birthday party. The drinks were good but they were too expensive. $15 for an espresso martini was a bit steep in my opinion. There was one bartender who was not in any kind of hurry to finish our drinks and several times I waited over 10 minutes AFTER ordering with him to get the drinks. He wasn't taking a while because he was busy, he was literally moving physically slow, like he didn't care. It was honestly kind of frustrating. The bar itself is cute and the dining room and patio have a nice ambiance. The music was fitting (DJ and live music outside) and there was a great taco truck outside!

Amazing atmosphere!! We had the pleasure and opportunity to host our networking event at White Rhino and they attended to every need! Truly amazing bartenders, owners, and event planners! Highly recommend anyone to patronize this business and to host their event at this venue!

Apparently the second ward is a neighborhood I was told to avoid a while back. But with establishments like this one located there, I will ignore the warnings since this bar is that damn good with their outdoor seating, cozy interior, and delicious cocktails. Located off of Milby Street, you'll hear the vibey music and chatter amongst the patrons chilling outside as you pass this joint. Now for the drinks, they taste as good as they look. A favorite is the Hot Wheels; sweet and bitter from the apple juice mixed with the Mezcal and ango bitters drops, it appears like a hot wheels car just sped off of the print leaving the flame color in the glass with the ancho salt rim giving that extra kick in the taste buds. VROOM, POW, WAM! Other favorites include the Island Boy and This Side of Town cocktails for the vodka fans. Or you can keep it classic and get their mojito or ol fashion which are some of the beverages I saw being concocted. Also the bartenders are the WHPH (Work Hard, Play Hard) types of servers so you're in good hands with them at this place. Drink up!

First time here and I was immediately drawn to the spacious patio area where there was a food tent serving tacos. After placing our food order, I danced my way to the bar - there was a DJ. I ordered one of their specialized drink, La Sandia, and ordered a virgin mojito for my friend. We enjoyed our night eating, dancing and a couple of drinks. There are tv screens so I'm sure there are games on the board. The crowd was pretty chill and the staff was pleasant. I did have an issue with the bar and my tab but a manager was quick to resolve it. This place is good for groups. I will definitely be back to enjoy the tacos!

Always a good time when I come here. Good drinks. Friendly staff. Good music. They usually don't have food when I've come previously, but they had a food vendor outside in their patio. Hopefully they will continue that. The inside has a fair amount of seating, but outdoors a lot more. I wouldn't recommend coming until the sun goes down during summer, unless you can hang in the heat like that.

TL;DR: Excellent craft cocktails that support a good cause! Friendly bartenders! I love it when I discover places on Yelp and they live up to their rating. I was looking for a casual place to meet up with some friends for drinks and decided to try out White Rhino. We got there around 5pm on a Saturday and it was pretty empty, but eventually more people started showing up. The vibe was super chill and laid back which was perfect. The bar has indoor and outdoor seating. The interior is large with a good amount of seating for small and large groups. There are plenty of tables with umbrellas on the patio and they were spaced out. My friend and I were sitting at a table waiting on others to arrive, when a bartender came over to take our order. I actually don't think it's full service, but he was just being nice and it was really slow in the bar. He brought a menu to us and told us to take our time since we didn't know what we wanted. After our first round, we ordered the rest of our drinks at the bar. All of the staff was so friendly and personable! They were able to make mocktails for some in the group who don't drink. This is a great place for craft cocktails, but they also have wine and beer if you prefer. Drinks: La Sandia y El Pepino - A gin cocktail with watermelon, cucumber, and Tajin. This drink was refreshing! Frozen Cucumber Lime Slush - Has vodka. I added Chamoy and Tajin on the rim. I loved this drink so much!! I was planning on ordering a different drink, but then I saw the frozen drinks and had to try it. Other drinks that our group had: -The First Date - Mezcal cocktail with pineapple, cranberry, agave, cherry-vanilla bitters, Amaretto, agave. My friend loves Mezcal and enjoyed this drink. -Frozen Mangonada -Virgin Margarita -Mocktail (not sure if it was one of the cocktails on the menu, or if the bartender just made a random drink, but my friend enjoyed it) They do have a food truck on site. We had some French fries and the seasoning on them was really good! It came with some sort of Chipotle mayo sauce which was just okay. I ate the fries without the sauce. I didn't order the fries so I do not know what type of food they serve, but it's nice that they have the food truck option because the cocktails are strong. Besides serving delicious craft cocktails, White Rhino donates some of their proceeds to multiple organizations that focus on conservation efforts to help protect White Rhinos. They are kid friendly and I believe the patio is dog friendly too! A DJ was setting up as we were leaving. According to the site, they have DJs on Friday and Saturday nights. They have other events during the week and you can also reserve the space for a private event. I believe the parking situation is street parking only. I saw a few lots, but I think they were reserved for other businesses in the neighborhood so I wouldn't chance it. White Rhino is definitely going into my rotation of craft cocktail bars. Yelp FTW!

My favorite little neighborhood bar! Not only is this a sustainable bar, but they also donate a portion of their proceeds to saving white rhinos. They have their own designated parking, as well as a super nice gentleman who will stop traffic for you to cross the street after parking. They often have a food truck or stand available but in the off chance they don't the night you pop in you're more than welcome to order your own food to the bar. The bar service is always fantastic, everyone is super friendly, and the ingredients in each cocktail are always fresh. The music can vary as they welcome and support local DJs. Highly highly recommend you pop in for a casual night out.

White Rhino is a cool, environmentally conscious cocktail bar located on Milby Street, one of the most interesting streets in Second Ward. I have been there a couple of times, so have a good feel for what this place is really like. I would recommend this bar to anyone. There are earthy, verdant, unique touches to the decor: think beautiful hanging and potted plants, a white wooden exterior, wooden tables and the establishment's recurring muse: the nearly extinct white rhino. It is great to see numerous representations of the white rhino in the form of a metallic sculpture, a painting and plush rhinos on the inside, and a painted abstract geometric rhino and neon rhino outside. The last male white rhino, named Sudan, died in Kenya back in 2015, so the celebration of this species is both meaningful and clever. It would be nice to see a written tribute to the animal and a statement inspired by the bar's environmental philosophy somewhere in the bar, but the aesthetic championing of rhinos is wonderful. The first time I visited the White Rhino, I ordered a frozen margarita, and on the next visit, a strawberry frosé. Both were lovely. The music selection is always good here, and the vibe is right. This is definitely one of my new favorite hangout spots.

Really cute place in the up and coming, Houston's second ward. At one time you wouldn't dare hang out in this neighborhood at night, but now it's becoming super safe with neat restaurants and bars. Big outdoor area with picnic tables and chairs. Projector and screen playing the Astros game. Great music. Really cute interior with seating. Food truck parked outside. Dog friendly. Someone mentioned in a review about rude bartenders. I found to e EXACT opposite. They were chatty, super friendly and knowledgeable. I do wish they had more bartenders on hand because it got busy and backed up. Check in on your phone to see the menu. They have anything and everything and delicious specially cocktails. My favorite was the pineapple swizzle. Oh lawd, I loved those! Big spectrum of patrons - casually dressed, snazzy dressed, young, old, anything goes here! Bicyclist stopped by along their ride. Just a neat place to check out.

Hidden Gem! This place has super cute a decor, a parking lot or side street parking and indoor / outdoor seating. It's super close to the house so we always swing by after work for happy hour and bite to eat from a food truck. Depending on the day the food truck changes which is pretty cool to me. Great drinks ! Great atmosphere!

Love this place, drinks are good and patio is fun. They have events often and it's in a great area around other fun bars. Love when they have their dj there. Service is good too, it's always nice to see the bar tender's familiar faces.

White Rhino saved our night!!!! They are Nestled in the East End Area on a quiet street. Right across from another spot thats pretty popping too. The DJ was blazing, the drink was hittin' and the Vibe was right. If youre looking for a great bar with a food truck look no further that White Rhino cause im telling you sometimes simple is where its at.

This place has a ton of potential, but simply doesn't have its execution down at this time. Food & Drink Limited, no food truck on our visit. We ordered two signature cocktails, which the "bartender" had no idea what we were asking for until we pointed to it on the menu. It was evident the individual had never been trained. I felt bad and as a former bartender wanted to take over watching him struggle. He took 10+ minutes to make two drinks, both of which were not made correctly (he redid one when he knew he had messed up). Some ingredients were left out by accident based on what was listed on the menu. Pricing Drink prices were slightly lower than the norm, but when they aren't executed well at all it doesn't really matter does it? Service Reference above, a couple of cocktails took a significant period of time. Empty glasses were scattered around, a sign they don't bus tables quickly or keep their bar neat. Overall Look, I wanted to love this place since it has a great patio, but I can't if they don't train or take pride in their execution there are plenty of places that do.

Cute local place, however the bartenders were awful. The place was dead and they left my drink sitting at the bar. Never thought to bring it to me or let me know it was ready. Chairs are very uncomfortable to sit on.

Discovered this little neighborhood gem close to where I live and I was definitely impressed! It gave the vibe of a casual bar but with their craft cocktails, elegant decor, spacious seating, and patio- I was very pleased we decided to stop in. The bartenders were attentive and talented, the DJ was on point, and there was seating and space for everyone. Honestly, this bar was so flexible you could get away with wearing jeans and a t-shirt or a cocktail dress... and everything in between. Looking forward to coming again!

I would like to give this place more stars but I have been calling everyday for 2 weeks, sent e mails on their website and tried messaging them on Instagram to see about reserving a space or tables for a party of 16. Never received a response. So perhaps they are so local they don't respond to new people interested in trying the place out.

A friend and I were enjoying a night at White Rhino when we were approached by a man we did not know. He was overly friendly, touching our shoulders and invading our personal space. When we politely asked him to stop touching us he let us know he was the owner before walking away. He returned with an employee, whispered in that employees ear, and then we were asked to leave. The man's name is Bobby de la Rosa. I was disappointed that these events occurred since I enjoyed the Cinco de Mayo event last year and was excited to return.

Stop by this gem randomly on a Saturday night for my friends birthday and this place was awesome. The guy pouring the drinks was fast and also quick to take our order even though it begin to get crowded. If you want to hang out with friends but want a chill vibe this is the place. The bar is open concept and right outside is picnic style tables and they have darts and corn hole to play while hanging with your crew. The drinks were cheaper than I expected i order about 11 cocktails and the bill only came out to 96 dollars. Any other places in Washington u would've been paying near 200 dollars. You gotta check this place out

Yoooo I love this place! They make the best non tomato based Micheladas with good peppery spiciness and dress it up just like I like it- Chamoy and Tajin! Most of the times the staff is fun and really enjoy their craft. The bar is clean and have a great outdoor area with picnic tables and chairs. They have some rotating food trucks and stands I look forward to trying. Just a tucked away good spot for those who "know" and I see it's going to be super poppin as they continue to develop the area and work gets out!

The anticipation is over! It's finally open. The cool and eclectic style of the bar is gorgeous. It is also a sustainable bar. They recycle the glass bottles and turn them into sand. They have a large patio that is pet friendly and a beautiful agave plant that's about 15yrs old! They have amazing craft cocktails and plenty of spirits to choose from. The staff is amazing, very friendly and knowledgeable.

Although this bar is Nice and the drinks are good, I have had my credit card charged on days I haven't been there. I can never speak to anyone when I call, and when I asked to speak to the manager, I was given the run around. I was then told Toast is to blame for these charges because it create a "hold" upon being swiped. Which makes no sense. Worst of all, I was given no apology and it just happened again. If you go, pay with cash. No telling how many times it's happened and people don't notice.

Big outdoor & lovely indoor area too. Yard games & fab music had us intertwined. It was my first time & I would go back.

Been here a few times, love the vibe in this environment! Came when they had a guy was serving tacos, loved it! Brought my friends and they loved it too! A great chill environment to hang out and talk. The female bartender was super helpful with knowing how to recommend different ways she can make an old fashioned, and he loved the drink! She took great care of us and listened to his likes and tastes to see what would be best for him. That is a lot to me, taking the time to talk and help us get a drink we will enjoy pet our own likings. I definitely will be back, it's a cute date night place.

The hubbs and I came in here tonight to pregame for the ballgame, Go Astros! The super sweet and knowledgeable lady tender served us up classy and quick with delicious specialized libations to get our festivities started! Her service and professionalism were top notch! We will be back!

This is an amazing concept and the cocktails are amazing especially with the old school cocktails. They literally can make anything you ask
