I had a breakfast burrito here in the spring and it was so good I think about it once a week. Drinks were great, shared an appetizer amazing. Love that they have inside and outside seating. Staff were awesome. Can’t wait to come back!

White Star is my go-to to-go spot during quarantine. Their food travels well, gets to me quick and never disappoints. Their Buffalo Cauliflower and Brussel Sprouts are crazy good sides/starters. Their burgers are amazing and cooked-to-order which isn’t always true with takeout burgers. 10/10. Can’t wait to go in-person once everything opens back up

Takeout here was great! Truffle fries weren’t soggy at all. Loved the mashed potatoes and generous portion size! Buffalo cauliflower was good but nothing amazing. Overall, I Would order food here again.

Came across this spot for a quick lunch. I ordered online, the crispy chicken sandwich with french fries and it came to $14.93. When I arrived there was no parking so had to park illegally and hop out. The bar and grill had indoor and outdoor seating. I was greeted by the server and he grabbed my food and I left. When I got in I tried the meal and the fries and sandwich was tasty. The slaw they had with it went well together. I will definitely return to try more.

White Star Bar is a great local bar. The service is fast, friendly, and attentive. They make good drinks and have a nice selection of beers. Their food is quite good, especially their burgers (with Pat LeFrieda meat). They don't have a huge dining room, but they do have some tables outside and plenty of seats at the bar.

I've been to every burger spot in JC and I'm proclaiming this the best... Awesome service and just great burgers. Amazing meat and fresh ingredients. I appreciated the straight-forward burger options and the full bar with actual awesome drinks (B.A.M. highly recommended). Gluten free bun offered for celiac Annie was a huge plus. Had the Mexican Street corn as well and very excited to try the other items on the menu. The overall meal was extremely economical had I not drank three rounds with my wife. I will be back....

Went to White Star for a quick bite to eat. White Star is known as a downtown Jersey city staple for burgers. White Star was on point as it provided good portions, tasty food and great service. The waiter was attentive and respectful. White Star gave a hipster vibe to it with indie rock music playing in the background. The music was a little too loud, but definitely a spot worth checking out in the area. Next time I'll be sure to try something else on the menu.

In the neighborhood and wanted a good burger and fries. Yelp'd this spot on a mid Saturday afternoon. This review is late but it was a great Fall day so we chose to be seated outside. Our waitress was great, super attentive. Drinks were great too. The vibe was great and we were satisfied. Give them a try!!

This bar has a cool divey feel with some intimate tables in the back. Our server was quick and friendly with our drinks and food. The playlist when we was decidedly early 00s emo which I loved. Veggie burger was good, we removed some of the guac to eat on the side. Fries were hot and crispy with an amazing chipotle aioli. I also had the spiked sage lemonade which was fresh and sweet.

Be warned: this bar is straight up ripping off customers on drinks. In New Jersey, a legal shot is 1.5 ounces. What we were served was barely 1 ounce, and not even filled to the top. When I asked the bartender Maura about it, she admitted they only pour 1 ounce and flat out refused to fix it. That's literally charging full price while giving you a third less alcohol than the law requires. On top of that, her service was dismissive and rude. No effort to make things right, just attitude. Bottom line: if you don't like being cheated out of a third of your drink, stay away.

We are here twice in the one week we were in JC. The bang bang shrimp was so good we each got our own order on our second visit. My husband had burgers both times and they were excellent. On my first visit I had grilled chicken on a salad, the chicken had absolutely no seasoning. My second visit I had the salmon burger and it was very good. Service is a bit slow for lunchtime.

It's been awhile since I've been back here. Still a chill bar with good quality bar food. I really enjoy their Kale Caesar salad. But I must say the cost when adding the blacken salmon is pricey, considering the piece of salmon is not that big. It's a shame to get a salad w/ protein cost so much these days. Also their kids Mac and cheese, my little friend enjoyed. But for the cost $13.20, might as well bought the adult version for $2 more.

White Star Bar is cool little bar/restaurant in Jersey City near my daughter's apartment. It was very busy on a Sunday night with an interseting mix of young people and families. The place has a welcoming neighbourhood feel. White Star Bar is known for their burgers. I ordered the White Star burger, which was pretty basic in terms of toppings. This was a solid burger but darn, did that thing come alive with flavor when their house made BBQ sauce was added that comes on the side. This is some seriously good BBQ sauce and my party of three were all thinking of a way to get more sauce home. I just decided to lick it out of the cup, (kidding) but order any thing at White Star with this sauce. You won't be sorry. The sweet potato fries were good also, crispy and not too much salt. White Star has other items besides burgers, actually there are a lot of choices surprisingly on the menu. We also had the Spaghetti Squash and Quinoa Walnut Salad, Both were excellent. Being a bar, White Star has a nice selection of Cocktails, Beer and Wines naturally. Service was very good all night, even with the space pretty much full. 4.5 Yelp Stars, 10 Stars for the BBQ sauce. If your looking for American comfort food in a cozy settining in Jersey City, I highly recommend White Star.

Came here with a friend before seeing a concert at White Eagle Hall over a month ago, definitely a good decision. Food: ended up getting one of the many delicious burgers I have heard about and it was easily the best decision in my life. The El Camino burger literally changed my life and I would recommend this to anyone. Aesthetic: did not step inside so I have no opinion about it haha Service: waitress was very nice, but service was very slow at times.

Review for delivery/pickup only. They use pat la Frieda meat which is usually a positive sign for quality eats. White Star bar is no exception! Their burgers are great and they offer a bunch of creative concoctions. Burrata on a burger? Yes please. If you're gluten free their bun is legit. It had me wondering if it was actually GF since it was so tasty. I wish they had a dedicated fryer for fries, but they let you swap them out for the house salad or veggies which is a win in my book. When we called they let us know what was safe and what wasn't. I'll definitely have to give them a try in person for a drink and update this review.

I got the white star burger, add avocado and mushrooms + a Kane head high IPA. Quality/taste: BEST BURGERS I'VE EVER HAD. This is one of my fav places to get a burger + beer. The Pat Lafreida meat is so good and fresh. They ask you how your burger done (which is uncommon) and it's cooked perfectly juicy. The bread is perfectly soft. The toppings choices are always great. I LOVE the truffle fries - always good especially with the chipotle sauce dip. Every time I've been, the food has been consistently delicious and filling. Beer is always crisp and good temperature. Service: Quick and very nice staff! We were greeted and served immediately upon entering. Our drink orders were taken quickly after sitting down. We didn't have to wait long at all for drinks or food. Our server was really attentive and made sure we were happy throughout the entire visit. Environment: Clean, quaint, cozy. I've been to both the white star locations. Both are consistent with their cozy and vintage-y feel. We came on a Sunday night and it wasn't too busy or noisy. This location is kind of in a residency neighborhood. Found parking right in front of the door. Price: $$ Burgers are around $15~ on average. There is a decent selection of different burgers or you can create your own. All the burgers are loaded! Kind of expensive for a burger but it's really good and worth it! I will always come back. It's always a treat and great meal when I go to white star. Can't wait to come back!

My boyfriend and I spent our Sunday afternoon here sitting at the bar watching the footballs games. We started with the nachos, a Kane Head High and a Hard Sage Lemonade. The nachos weren't fancy but they were tasty and hit the spot. My boyfriend liked the beer and my cocktail was simple but really good. To eat he had a fried pickle burger with a Carton Boat and I had the Mac and cheese with an Allagash White. The burger was good and the fries were really tasty. The Mac and cheese could have been more flavorful but it did the job. He liked the Carton Boat and I thought the Allagash White was just ok. My boyfriend got a Troegd Sunshine Pilsner and then another Carton Boat and I had the Down Easter Cider. Wow this cider is reallly good! Service behind the bar was great. Food came out fast and bartender was quick to ask if we wanted another drink. White Star Bar is a nice local restaurant/bar. The drink and food menu aren't huge but there's a decent selection for a local place. A great place to hangout.

I absolutely love this spot! I come here for lunch sometimes and I love the staff here. they are super friendly! I had the Pulled Pork Grilled cheese and a few Mimosas my last time there, and I fell in love. the pork was so tender and well seasoned, the sauce was so sweet and tangy. the fries are so crispy and flavorful ugh it was like a flavor explosion. this was my first time having a mimosa and i was very pleased.

Haven't had the food here in a while, but the cocktails--especially the hot cocktails during this frigid winter--are reason enough to keep coming back. The All Smoke and Cocoa is like a grownup hot chocolate. Mezcal AND a toasted marshmallow? I'm in. The Hot Dominicana and the Hot Gold Rush are also great. We sat outdoors and our server was really attentive and even turned on the heat lamp by us when the evening started to get chilly. Great neighborhood spot!

Ahhhhh, Jersey City. Where flannel wearing zoomers cycle their rented Pelotons down pothole riddled roads. They're all headed towards Trader Joe's to fork over $7.00, earned from a gig economy job, for a gallon of raw milk. Then Uber it back to their 600 sq. ft. lofts @ $5K a month. On rainy days it's Grubhub to the rescue; charging $28 for the same gallon of raw milk after fees and tips. OMG J/K LOL! This review has been sitting in draft status for a little over 3 years. It was among the last restaurants yours truly visited before that damn virus plagued the planet. If I remember correctly, the food was mediocre but the atmosphere was great. I think the Electric G. needs to don his mask again and revisit.

Okay so this was really fine, nice and quality meat although I like another place better because it was juicy. Nonetheless, quality over juicy anytime (sometimes). I was given the option if I wanted a bottled blood mary or just made so I got mine made at the bar, to go of course. But we did not like it at all. We LIKE bloody Mary's but this place does not do well with that. But they're a burger place so they excel in that. They get their meat from Pat La Frieda the local favorite. Oh boy, just typing about it is making me drool. Pat La Frieda meat is delicious. Ours was medium done. The buffalo cauliflower were really good appetizer :). The downside was that the fried pickle burger came with three fried pickles :( but it was still good. The portobella burger was neat. Now these burgers were BIG! We finished half of our burgers and finished the rest for our next meal. I will definitely come back. They also have outdoor seating which is prime because you're not surrounded by or any other busy establishments nearby. However you get the buger, just indulge it.

Great little burger spot hidden at the edge of downtown Every burger is a solid choice, but I really enjoy their pickle burger. The nacho appetizer is a great portion size for a party of four or less, but you might want a second app if you're with a bunch of people. Can also be a really cute date spot (old school vibes all around) as long as you're also ok with sitting at the bar Check it out if you're in the neighborhood

Hands down the best spot in Downtown JC. The cocktails at White Star Bar are top notch. The brunch here is so memorable and the staff is really great and lively. Let's start with the All Smoke Hot Cocoa which is made with mezcal, infused with chili cocoa and topped off with a marshmallow. Cmon! So amazing. If you're basic like me, go for the double Bloodt Mary (you won't regret the double pour for $12 vs single bloody for $8.) Not too spicy, but there's horseradish in them which gives it a nice flavor. Their burgers are amazing and so is everything on their brunch menu.

We are visiting relatives and friends and White Star is the perfect neighborhood bar. It was a short walk from where we were staying and as soon as we entered I knew it would be great. Lights are low, nice long bar with tables and booths opposite. Sat down to an extensive menu which covers just about everything. We ordered the Double Burger which is one of the best in the area, Roast Chicken, large portion of delicious chicken with mashed potatoes and grilled veggies and last was the Shrimp Quesadilla which was also excellent. Large beer list which pleased the three of us. The difference between a mediocre neighborhood bar and a great one is the people and service and here they are the best. Friendly, helpful service and they do it with a smile. Don't live in the area anymore but if I did, White Star would be my second home!

Servers with attitude and no envy of helping or even check if the food you got was ok. Burger overcooked and cold fries. And even worse on outside bench you are dining with roaches crawling on your legs... horrible I will never go back to the Brunswick street location

We really wanted a burger that didn't come from a fast food joint and X found White Star Bar on Yelp. They do their own deliveries, which we love. Delivery was quoted to 30-45 mins and arrived right in the middle of that timeline. Food was well packaged and we were both very happy with our burgers. I had the Hamilton Park burger with cheddar cheese and sweet bacon. I added chipotle Mayo in the side and it was perfect. X had the Paulus Hook burger with portabella mushroom and Swiss cheese. He really liked his burger as well. They were both cooked perfectly to our requests and the buns held them very well even after a 30 min delivery time. We also tried their Buffalo chicken tenders which were good but so spicy! Delivery man was very nice and friendly on the phone and we were able to do it all contactless.

We came here around 2 on a Saturday and there was plenty of seating. We ordered some mimosas, a Bloody Mary, bang bang shrimp, and a white star burger medium well with bacon and fried pickles. We also asked for the special sauce on the side. The food was all great, including probably the best best burger I've ever had and the best bang bang shrimp too.

3.5 stars. the service gets a 5. The staff was friendly and attentive. We started with buffalo wings and fried pickles. Both options were solid starters. The burger was pretty good but it didn't taste like any salt was added to the patty prior to cooking. The saddest part of the meal has to be the chicken sandwich. A sad looking piece of chicken with not a whole lot of flavor. The pickles and slaw were the standout flavors here, and the main event shouldn't ever have to play second fiddle to the supporting actors. If you are in the area give them a try for yourself. ENJOY!!!

covid review: alot of veggie friendly options on the menu! every exciting! cute area to sit outside. we ordered some stuff to pick up and eat outside. 4 stars for the veggie burger alone: the veggie burger is very good. i loved that it pretty much stayed together. very plump and had good flavor. The mac n cheese i feel missed the mark. it was a bit too watery for more. i wish the sauce was thicker. it had so much potential.

Excellent. Great food, neighborhood bar, friendly and polite to the neighborhood. I miss the "naughty bar food" that I once got there (onion rings, cheese sticks, etc.) but although the menu has changed in a few ways, its quality has not. Pat LaFrieda meat all day long. I'll be a regular.

This spot is so cool! The food is great and the service is pretty good too. Definitely four stars for how personable the servers were and the food. I'd definitely recommend the bacon (thick cut), however, not chewy at all - cooked right! Definitely coming back! ***Moscow miles are a must when you come here!

White Star should never go unmentioned when the topic of good JC restaurants is brought up. In fact, I'd consider it to be a nice spot to take your folks when they're visiting from out of town. It also fits the bill for a nice date night. Or it can just be a place you go to unwind with a burger and a beer. Whatever the occasion may be, White Star has you covered with good food. They do many things right here but my go to choices are the burger and kale Caesar salad. Let's start with the burger: it's meaty, juicy and cooked to your specs. It's definitely one of the best of its kind in the area and possibly the best in the city. If you're looking for a lighter option, the Black Kale Caesar is the way to go. Nicely dressed crunchy kale, croutons, Grana Padano and your choice of chicken, salmon, steak and even a burger on top makes my ordering an easy choice when I'm not quite hungry enough for the burger. I give them kudos for having Kane Head High on tap which is a personal favorite of mine. Service, although nice, can sometimes be slow. And this was on a very non-busy night. But that doesn't mean, I won't look for the white star next time I'm craving some solid grub.

What a disappointment! I typically enjoy the White Star, however, I ordered for pick up for lunch today and was woefully disappointed in my meal. Ordered the Brunswick salad (for my dining partner, which was fine) and the White Star Burger for myself. I called it in, they told me 15 to 20 minutes, I showed up at about 13 minutes, as I wanted to make sure I was there when it came of the kitchen. I was told they were still working on it. After about another 5 minutes or so, I was handed my bag. I walked one block to my dining destination. Opened my box only to discover ice cold French Fries and and a room temperature burger which was not medium well as ordered. So I guess they decided to cook the hot food first and let it sit there while they made the salad. I typically don't yelp a bad review on an establishment that I like, but this instance was inexcusable.

Thought this place was too hype since it's always packed but decided to finally give it a try and the burgers were solid. Great choice for a huge variety of food and good for only drinks too, will be coming back !

Came here for Sunday brunch with a group of friends and was not disappointed. Staff was very friendly and understanding as no one at my table could decide what they wanted to eat because everything seemed so good! And it was pretty good! Portions are relatively big and drinks are reasonably priced for Jersey City.

The French fries are forkin amazing. The burgers were so juicy. I mean burst in your mouth type juicy. Beer selection was super fair as well. Perfect spot for a burger. And the staff was also great.

I've been to both locations and the service and food have been wonderful. I lucked out and snagged a Thanksgiving burger in December and indulged. I am eagerly awaiting what crazy burger concoction comes next. Also, their nachos are amazing. I know they are only nachos but something about them makes them top-notch. Drinks are great, too -- I've had the Moscow mules and the red sangria here before and both were good (not too watered down but not one drink and you're ready for a nap strong). Highly recommend.

Great food Ordered via Uber Eats. Haven't been here in a few years (last time was to White Star Warren), but it's nice to know that the food is consistently good from both places. Would definitely recommend. Even though the food had to travel from Jersey City to Secaucus, it was still fresh and warm.

Food was excellent, went with 2 teenagers and two adults. Hands down the best coleslaw I ever had. My son's pulled pork grilled cheese was awesome.

Surprise, surprise...another brunch review! I was exited to try out White Star Bar because of their glowing reviews and drool worthy pictures. Sadly, I think I either ordered wrong or just had an isolated bad experience. I had the brie omelette for my main. It was beautifully plated and I was excited to dig in. Sadly, my food was much too salty for my taste. In hindsight, I probably should have asked for another dish to be prepared but I was so hungry I didn't want to wait. If it hadn't been for the saltiness, I think I would have really enjoyed my food. My friend had the chorizo hash and enjoyed that very much. I believe the only complaint with that meal was that they wish more chorizo could have been added. The ambiance was great and the food looks almost too good to eat. I will definitely give this place another shot...maybe I'll return for a burger!

White Star is my to go bar in downtown JC. Super chill & the food is delicious! The wings are to die for. The chicken sandwich is delicious. & their service is always on point.

Even though I live in Hoboken White Star is my go to spot whenever I'm craving a burger. It's an attractive looking yet unpretentious bar catering to all ages, that also happens to play great music (70's/80's). All the food is good but the burger is the standout for me (so it's not often I get anything else) and they have an excellent range of interesting craft beers on rotation. The food is very reasonably priced considering the quality and tastiness of it. Staff are friendly. Service can be a little slow at peak hours but all good things take time right? Overall White Star Bar is a winner!

White Star Bar has one of the best gluten free buns my partner has ever had. I had a bite, and it was indeed quite good. The majority of places we've gone to that offer gluten free anything often have a stale, small, bland bun. However, this was one of the best I've felt or seen and definitely the best she says she's had. Everything was relatively inexpensive. A meal for two, with gluten substitutions, came up just shy of $40. Unlike some burger joints, they also use really high quality meat: Pat La Frieda's! So you know when you eat here that it's going to at least taste like something. My only complaint, and this is just based on preference, is that there is no smash burger option. Even ordering the double with two 4 oz patties was a little too much. Since that's just a preference, they don't lose any points. Everything was absolutely delicious, with high quality ingredients. I was able to take mine off of the bun and eat it over lettuce to keep with a low carb meal. All of the reviews saying this was a great option for people with celiac's were right! Give this a shot.
