Whitecliff Vineyard & Winery - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"Despite what your friend who just watched Sideways for the first time tells you, there’s no best or worst wine grape. And no matter what your wine preferences are, you’re likely to find something you like at Whitecliff. In the shadow of steep, tree-lined cliffs, this vineyard in Gardiner grows more than 20 different varietals, and you can try all of their sustainably-produced, vegan wines in tasting flights after making a reservation through their website. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

We have been 3-4 different NYS wineries each of the past five years. During that time, we've discovered many nice to excellent wines. Even so, none of these visits have proven as across-the-board superb as our recent visit to Whitecliff. We tasted eight different wines, both red and white, and decided to buy one or two bottles of seven of them; our previous "record" was three different types from a winery on Cayuga Lake. They were, each and every one of them, that good! To make it an even better visit, we snacked on popcorn, a wonderful cheese and crackers that we bought at Whitecliff, while having a delightful, informative discussion with co-owner Yancey Stanforth-Migliore.

Had a great time at this winery! The wine was excellent. Balanced and flavorful with a good variety to choose from. The views were beautiful, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the afternoon. Plus, it’s dog-friendly, which was a big bonus for us. Definitely worth a visit!

Google
This was one of 4 wineries visited today as part of a local Earth Day winery tour. We were offered 4 samples here and the tasting was entirely created to our own specific tastes. Starting from what I like, I was able to taste things that were very compatible to my preferences and that made me excited to purchase new wines from a winery that I had not visited previously. We were also given a light bite of a very delicious soup. The folks managing the tasting were personable and informative. This was by far my favorite of the four and I will definitely be back again. Im so glad to have discovered it. The views from the deck and yard are lovely as well.

Wines are all higher quality and better priced than some other wineries in the area, but they serve half as much for a similar price ($20 flight, but in plastic shot containers). Busier on Saturdays than Sundays (Sundays can be hit or miss with the number of people).

Google
Such a lovely Saturday at the winery. Beautiful weather, view, and kind and attentive staff! Thank you for the guided tasting and expert recommendations!

Wine selection includes so many wonderful wines! Best in Hudson Valley and the view is amazing! Join the club for extra value and top notch wine experience.

Cute space with a vintage look for my daughter's sprinkle downstairs! We had a great time. Take the spiral staircase up to the tasting room where, of course, we couldn't leave without buying several bottles of wine!! Lovely outdoor setting as well with a beautiful view of the Gunk's!

The staff are so kind and helpful, they accommodated our large party. The wines are delicious and the scenery is breathtaking. Such a great place to spend a day!

Yelp
2nd stop on our tour. Small little tasting room and it appeared they were a man down. Our wine pourer was busy with another group but we grabbed a table and looked over the wine options. Lot to choose from! We did the pick 4 tasting and still got a little bit of the guided as well. Learned a lot about the wines. Which the pours were a little more as these were truly 'tastings'! Overall the wines were great and the experience fun.

Yelp
I visited this vineyard on a wine tour trip with BLK Getaway. The vineyard is owned by a family. One of the owners gave us a lesson on how the wine is made and we tried several of their wines. I enjoyed the wines. We had a variety of red and white wines. The vineyard was nice with a lot of land surrounding it. I purchased a bottle of Riesling because it was my favorite wine that I sampled. There was a food truck outside where you could purchase food. If I'm ever in the Hudson Valley area, I would visit again. I enjoyed my time here.

Yelp
I was excited to check out this winery while visiting New York and meeting one of my favorite East Coast Yelpers for the first time in person. I love the wineries in Cali and was interested to see how they compared. Unfortunately, this one did not blow my doors off...Where shall I begin...First of all, I treated everyone to a "Full Tasting," which is supposed to include a breakdown and history of each of wine. Tristan, the general manager and owners son, presented the first wine with some history then "Poof," he was gone. From that moment on our tasting went downhill:( We tasted a few reds and whites but honestly, the best part of my visit was meeting Diane & Frank. I am in love with both of them. So, thank you Whitecliff Vineyard for that. Oh, and the AMAZING chicken quesadillas from the pop up Mexican restaurant!!! 10 stars! I am still dreaming about those... *Located off the beaten path but beautiful drive and area *Save your $$$ get the tasting without the extra info

Yelp
10/13/24: The highlight of our Whitecliff visit was meeting up with CA Yelper Te-see and her sister. Each of us had the $23 Guided Tasting. We had four people in our group. The guided tasting was supposed to include any questions and walk us through the notes. In addition, this information is stated on the menu. Have been to many guided tastings, servers have always been very accommodating with wine information. The female server "C" or "K" appeared to be disinterested. Yes, she did come over to pour the wines. That's all that was done. I don't know if she was having a bad day or what. Plus, the place wasn't even crowded. So, I don't know what was happening. (FYI- I did even make a telephone reservation for the winery the day before with Christine). The winery did have a Mexican pop-up in the lower level. Their quesadillas were delish. In spite of the lack of any wine information from the server, I did purchase two bottles of (1) Cabernet Franc and (1) Two Cabs. Each bottle was over $30 each. For these prices, customer service should've been more accommodating on a guided tour. PS: I did come two years ago and it was a much better experience.

Yelp
Stopped by Whitecliff Vineyard this past Saturday afternoon while visiting New Paltz for a long weekend. I am a big fan of Robibero vineyard and thought this place might be similar. The tasting room and outdoor patio/space at Whitecliff are much smaller compared to Robibero. It was also a much quieter and stuffier crowd. When we arrived, there were two other couples waiting to arrange a tasting and only one gentleman working the tasting counter inside. We waited patiently until another woman came up to help us. We explained we wanted to order glasses of wine (bottles are only sold to go) and told her the couple varieties we had in mind. She was reluctant to describe them and didn't even offer pouring a small taste before we agreed to it. If you are that sparing, just charge for individual samples. I decided on the award winning Vidal Blanc and my bf got one of their award wining reds. We took our glasses outside and sat at one of the tables on the lawn - you have a nice view of the mountains from the lawn. We decided to stay for a second glass before moving on to our next stop. My bf went inside to order our second glasses. The pours this second round were even stingier than the first. I saw an older group of people who had much generous pours than we did. Perhaps they were discriminating against us because we were younger or didn't do a tasting flight. Not sure I will ever come back here again. While the wine was good, the snooty staff was less desirable. Robibero is a much more pleasant and vibrant scene.

Yelp
So this winery was tough for me to review. The wines were just ok to me... But the staff, gift shop and phenomenal views of the mountains gave them the 4 stars! They had tastings set up into categories and I of course selected the "sweets" for 12.00 and you got 6 small samples and quite honestly they just weren't all that sweet and the taste was ok at best. We did end up buying a bottle of the Lagrange. I did however have fun buying some unique things from their gift shop, so that made me happy! Hoping today's wineries bring more to the table than yesterday!!! :)

Yelp
I would probably give Whitecliff only three stars, but their shop is very impressive as are the views. In warmer weather you could sit on their deck and enjoy an amazing view of the cliff face nearby. Their shop is stocked with all kinds of unique quality made items. Now for the wines... their list is quite impressive, and there will likely be something to impress anyone somewhere on this list. Tastings consist of six from this mammoth list, they break down the most popular into categories, of you can pick your own six at random. As I have experienced with other wineries with big wine lists, it is easy to choose the wrong wine and skip over something amazing. This is likely the case at Whitecliff as well. We tasted the sweet wines, and although many were good, there was little wow factor. I really wanted to try their reds, but I was torn and couldn't decide from the big list. I will say that my favorite was likely the sparkling moscato, and I don't normally enjoy sparkling wines. It wasn't over sweet and wasn't over bubbly. The process that they do this particular wine does not allow for it to be bottled and must be purchased by growler. If we lived nearby I would certainly consider such a purchase. I would likely try them again in the future, but would likely try a different group or create my own.

Yelp
Lovely wine tasting experience with indoor and outdoor seating. Food available as well. A very pleasant experience and we bought a red and a white that we liked!

Yelp
Nice views. Not great wine. Came here with some friends to try the tasting flights on a weekend trip to gardiner from the city. There were a few picnic tables on the grass and a few 2 person round tables on the patio. They were only letting one group into the building at a time so we had to wait a bit to go in an order our flights. When it was our turn to enter the building a women cuts in front of us and we were told to wait outside until she left the building. A few of us ordered the "best of whitecliff flights" The wine was served in little plastic cups that you pour into one wine glass. We were given a sheet of paper with the wine list and told that the cups of wine were placed in an order consistent with the list however the first cup of wine (which was supposed to be a Chardonnay ) was pink (and tasted like rosé which was supposed to be the second wine on the list). So that was a little confusing. It was like this on all the "best of Whitecliff" flights We also ordered the cheese package which came with prepackaged crackers and 2 cheeses. The cheeses were good but there were not enough crackers for the amount of cheese and we were not given any plates to eat from. We were disappointed with the size of the tasting pours and were not particularly impressed with any of the wines. The Cabernet franc has a bunch of sediment in it as well. (See pictures) Aside from the wine, we were also disappointed with the lack of music. It was eerily quiet... so much so that we could hear staff ask a woman sitting at a table far away (alone with her dog) three times if she was expecting anyone else to come. We thought this was rude. Not sure we would come back but hopefully others will have a better experience!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here in the fall and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and our time here. The staff was knowledgeable and the wines were great! They did only offer outdoor seating, so we had to wait a minute to get a table but stayed for nearly 2 hours when we did. We did multiple tastings (they gave small cups and a wine glass to pour the little cups in) and sheets with info on all the wines. We ended up leaving with a few bottles. Overall, a great spot with a kind, knowledgeable staff, beautiful views and great wine!

Yelp
Had a few hours before we needed to be anywhere so we ended up here on a warm September afternoon. There's a marvelous view from the veranda: tree covered slopes lead to a hard ridge line that dominates the scenery. Not sure what to make of the wines here: could be my taster is off, could be the Oaked Sey val Blanc was the only non-sparkling wine worth drinking; Awosting is agreeable for a sparkler. On the other hand, MLB was quite taken with the whole experience; nodding or pouting as the pours and descriptions continued. We left with Riesling, I hope she chose well :-) -- update: must have been something in the air that day, the Riesling was excellent Saturday evening after touristing...

Yelp
- good wines - lovely views - staff can be kind of pushy *My friends were asked if they knew this was private property, as if we would come all the way up here just to sit in the yard and loiter - staff is not as knowledgeable about wines as other places - dont come here without making that resey

Yelp
How unfortunate! We've been coming to this vineyard for a few years and have had great experiences but unfortunately today was not one of them. Their website says that you need reservations for tasting but not for wine by the glass, and we were ultimately turned away for wanting to buy bottles by a frazzled employee who let her attitude get the best of her. Someone who seemed like the manager was also wearing a bandana as a mask which doesn't seem like an appropriate face covering for an employee in the middle of the pandemic. I hope that they resolve their issues with serving during this difficult time and have a more clear outline of what is allowed and what isn't in writing on their premises so other people can try to have the opportunity of enjoying wine at this establishment. Update: I heard from the manager in a timely manner regarding my concerns which is great, in the future I may try again and hopefully leave a better review!

Yelp
A gorgeous.....GORGEOUS vineyard, with a breathtaking view; they have relaxing spacious areas laid out to just sit and take it all in. The inside is as beautiful as the outside, with a modern tasting bar. Checking in with the passport (normally $12 for 6) they have an expansive list, but operate on pre-set tastings (a blended flight for passports-a dry red list-dry white list-a rose-fruity-and create your own is more expensive). Gracious pours, we tried: -Reserve Riesling: dry finish -Seyval Blanc: very plain -Awosting White: the seyval makes it very fruity -Table Rock: exactly what it says-average table wine, has a peppery smell, but not in the taste -Malbec: smokey wonderful -Red Trail: a semi-sweet without an overpowering taste We started them at the beginning of our wine trail day, I wish we ended with them so we could have hung around with a glass of the Malbec, but mostly for the ambiance of it all, not specifically the wine. They were a bit pricey.

Yelp
Visited Whitecliff Vineyard on a perfect Monday afternoon. One of the highlights of the Hudson Valley wine region, Whitecliff Vineyard has an excellent selection of wines and beautiful views to pair them with. Quality: Whitecliff Vineyard has a ton of different wines available, so we ended up getting three Tastings to try as many as possible. We did the Dry White Tasting, the Rich Red Tasting, and a Choose Your Own Flight with a mix of summer reds, dry rose, and sweet wines. I found several wines that I enjoyed, but my two standouts were the 2015 Sky Island and the 2015 Reserve Merlot. Sky Island is a Bordeaux blend with wonderful richness, while the Merlot had a surprising lightness to form a very balanced wine. Quantity: Good sized tasting pours, which were helpful when sharing. Value: $8-$14 for different Tasting options. $6-$10 for a Glass of Wine. Ambiance: Whitecliff Vineyard is located in the Upstate New York town of Gardiner. The scenic views from the complex are extraordinary. They have a two story taproom, with the downstairs area set up for private parties and upstairs for shopping and tastings. The top floor has a deck attached, which spills out on a rolling hill with assorted picnic tables. The outdoor lawn is close to rows of grapes and provides amazing views of the nearby mountains. Crowd: A small crowd, with a lot of repeat visitors. Most came in for a tasting and left with a few bottles. Service: The bartenders were excellent. Both girls behind the bar knew the wines inside and out, and were extremely accommodating. They made the experience better. Parking: Grass parking lot behind the main building.

Marie E.

Yelp
Enjoyed a glass of wine and a spectacular view with family. My grandsons had chips and soda and Loved exploring the grounds. Bring a blanket to spread out on the lawn, there are a limited numbers of chairs and tables. I had white wine, which was very good, the others had Rose which they also liked. Generous serving, I think 7.00 a glass. The tastings are expensive, I would recommend just getting a glass and enjoying the view. Small and intimate.

Paige B.

Yelp
Wonderful service following a tasting snafu. We were missing one of out tasting wines and the ladies and gentlemen behind the counter were very gracious in helping us figure out what we were missing. We then enjoyed local cheese and crackers and an amazing Rose on the porch overlooking the Shawangunk Ridge. Highly recommend a visit! Joined the wine club!!!

Yelp
I am so disappointed at the customer service at this place. My cousin called in advance to confirm our party of 10 could be accommodated. It was no problem ahead of time but when we got there the man behind the counter kept on saying they couldn't accommodate parties larger than 6. What I don't understand is why we just weren't booked two tables in the first place- one for 6 and one for 4. Or 5 and 5. That's what other places do. Instead we were told that 6 of our party could sit and the other 4 would be pretty much out of luck. What's more is that there were so many empty tables outside that they could have accommodated us. What's most upsetting though is how we were treated by the man behind the counter. He was condescending and rude and insinuated that I just didn't understand what he was saying. I've never been treated so poorly before at an establishment and have never been so compelled to post a review before so other people know to avoid this place at all costs.

Yelp
Almost two years ago my husband and I made a visit to Whitecliff. It was probably our 4th or 5th time and it wasn't a great visit. It was super busy and we thought that what had been such a favorite had changed. I wrote a review and the owners reached out - which was really very nice - and hoped we would return again in future. Well, we did and it was everything we remembered. We love, love, love their Awosting White wine. Oh! So delicious! Awosting is made from 70% Seyval Blanc and 30% Vignoles mainly from the Hudson Valley. Whitecliff is one of the treasures of the Hudson Valley wineries. You are able to enjoy some of their lovely wine sitting out back with spectacular view of the white cliffs (Shawangunk Ridge.) Just beautiful. We were able to visit during the summer of 2020. They had all of the COVID precautions in place. And, it was wonderful to be able to forget the madness, be in the moment and enjoy wine, outdoors, and feel alive.
google avatar

Emily D.

Yelp
Very nice people, beautiful view, and amazing wine!! Loved it here and can't wait to go back!!

Joe K.

Yelp
The service was great I would highly recommend this winery over Robibero the service we experienced there was very awkward and rude. Whitecliff is a million times better. The Lagrange is great it's probably one of the best wines I have ever had and and immediately fell in love with it and bought 3 bottles.
google avatar

Vince F.

Yelp
The wine is amazing. However, the manager, a family member of the owner (I believe his name is Tristan), is a complete ass. The first time I went pre-COVID, we were a group of the 10 and came without a reservation. They weren't full at the time. The manager completely denied us service because we were larger than 6 (they only do tasting groups of 6). We offered to split up the group, but he just said no. Another employee came to us and told us that it'd be fine and served us. We came another time. This time, we made a reservation for 6 but our party was 7 (one wasn't drinking). We had asked ahead of time and was told it was fine by another employee. When we got there, this manager greeted us and denied us AGAIN! We offered to split up our group and he said absolutely not because we would still hang out together. Even the other customers said it was ridiculous. It's a shame because I really like the wine here. The atmosphere is great. Just don't come on the weekend when this guy with a power trip is working or don't come with a large group. The worst part was that he wasn't even nice or apologetic about it. I don't think I will come here again.
google avatar

Jennifer F.

Yelp
I do not usually write yelp reviews. But today I have to sit down and take my time and write about this place. Today is a Saturday. My family and I drove up almost 2 hours and anticipated wonderful winery experience. I heard many wonderful things about this place. We made an appointment for 7 people. However the limit is 6 people. My family member made a reservation and the worker said they can accommodate for 7 people. We were all excited. We arrived and this guy with tattoos on his arms and legs said we cannot be served because we are a party of 7. We understand during this COVID pandemic and the responsibility to social distance and not gather in big groups. We offered to separate our group into two however this employee/manager said he cannot serve us. He did not acknowledge our reservation, did not apologize for the wrong information when they took our reservation and did not amend for their miscommunication. He did not care for customers satisfaction at all. As when we exit the area some customers was upset for us. They said it was ridiculous and stupid. That guy offered wine to go however he gave us an impression he did not want us in his winery. He want us to at least buy wine from this place. We never even sat down to try the wine. Why would I buy something that was uninviting in the first place. Please if you do go, do not tell them you are a party more than 6. Go in two groups and enjoy your time!
google avatar

Tina F.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of wineries so my family and I made plans to visit Whitecliff winery. We called to make a reservation in advanced for a group of 7, and they said it would not be a problem. We drove two hours from the the city and upon arrival, the manager told us he couldn't serve us at the property because they only allowed groups of 6 or less. Although we said the person we made the reservations with on the phone said it was okay, he still said no and made it clear he was a family member of the owners, thus having final say in all matters and discrepancies. We asked if we could split our group, he said no because we would end up "hanging out together" anyways. That was rude to say. The manager was not accommodating and did not seem apologetic at all. We simply did not feel welcome. Will I come back and give it another shot? Most definitely not. There are so many other winery options. Spend your money elsewhere where they will respect their customers.
google avatar

Tharyyn T.

Yelp
I love visiting Whitecliff. The grounds are beautiful and serene. The staff is knowledgeable and makes learning about wine fun and accessible. Whitecliff's wines are all excellent. You can tell there is care put into every wine they make. If you have the opportunity to go there, do not pass it up.
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
I don't normally post reviews, but I had to come on here to say that this winery is a must and worth a trip. Super friendly staff, family-owned, and my small group of 4 felt extremely comfortable and safe with all the precautions in place! We were so relieved to see this space properly following COVID guidelines. Oh, and the wine is exquisite. Go!
google avatar

Robert M.

Yelp
An Amazing experience. Not only the great tasting wine and beautiful scenic views. The manager Christine was such a delight. She knew every wine on the menu and was a wonderful ambassador for this winery and the Hudson Valley. Thanks for the great dinner recommendation.
google avatar

Elsie W.

Yelp
I've only been to Robibero before this, and it's the same type of deal -- wine flights + free glass, $2 off if you buy a bottle. They have various flights: dry white, fruity, sweet dessert wines, rosé, dry red, whitecliff, bubbles... The fruity flight was $10 for 5 different wine tastings. The Rosé flight was $8 for 4 wine tastings. I really enjoyed the 2014 Traminette! That was the best out of all of them. They're also known for the Awosting White and Redtrail. They also serve cheese, so you can get some cheese and crackers and take your wine outside to their picnic tables outside and enjoy the sun (or shade).
google avatar

Carolina F.

Yelp
Beautiful view, not impressed with the wine but it's worth to do the tasting, everyone's palate is different. Social distance definitely in place, you can only go I side the built one by one. You need to buy food with you tasting 'Cuomo's law' in NY.

Katherine K.

Yelp
Wine was good. Service was good. The place is very tiny and there isn't much seating unless you bring your own chairs/blankets to sit on the grass. Even the grass area is tiny

P O.

Yelp
We stopped at this winery for a tasting and were astonished to encounter such an unpleasant experience. The staff were rude, condescending, and very unprofessional. We highly recommend they get help to learn about customer service. Their pores were inconsistent, they attempted to pour different wines in the wine glass while I still had my previous wine in it, they didn't explain the wines very well, they treated the customers like it was a drive-thru, and it was not charming at all.

Richard N.

Yelp
went today with my wife on 7/22/2023.....the 2 women working the bar couldn't be more unfriendly.....they acted like we weren't even there. not a hello...how are you ...nothing...all they did was talk to each other.. anyway we ordered a bottle of wine to sit outside and drink...well can you believe they charged a $5 corking fee???? what? that's like going to a restaurant and ordering a dozen raw clams and the restaurant charging you $5 to open them! WHAT NERVE! if your looking for a classy winery that cares about their customers head up the road to Robibero....you won't be disappointed......bypass this dump!

Laura C.

Yelp
My visit to Whitecliff was not memorable. It's self serve and the wine tasting gets served in ramekin plastic cups then handed to you on a tray. Cheese and crackers are in refrig. Had to ask for cutting board and knife. Staff was not helpful at all and needs adult supervision. Tasting area was in basement garage with wobbly tables. Will not be revisiting any time soon .
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Everything was perfect and the staff was very friendly. The view is awesome . Staff was professional and knowledgeable especially Christine she helped a few in Our group that weren't really sure what they liked . Once we all found our personal taste we settled in and enjoyed the view. It was a great day and will be going back with some family and friends

Yelp
Some of the best wine around! Also a gorgeous place to have a glass of wine and admire the "White Cliffs" Of the gunks

Alison H.

Yelp
Beautiful spot. Delicious wine. You can join their club and get free tastings and discounts on cases or half cases. You can bring your own food and basque in the glory of the surroundings. The ride there itself is a treat. Gardiner is a sweet little town with a few great places to eat. Friends and I loved the bubbly rose.

Steve Z.

Yelp
I'm adding to the list of poor reviews that call out the terrible customer service and group planning services at the winery. It's a shame because we like the winery but we're not going back, ever. We started communicating with Tristan a few weeks ago, making it clear that we wanted to reserve the cellar for an event on a very specific date. After inconsistent communications (he didn't call when he said he would, slow to reply to emails) and a very dismissive and arrogant attitude (saying things like "well, my family does own the winery") we received an email stating that "someone else booked your date, best of luck". The date was available when we first starting talking to you and you don't have the consideration to put a soft-hold on it or give us first right of refusal? Terribly inconsiderate and unprofessional. Best of luck!

Robert S.

Yelp
If I could leave 10 stars I would, that is how great our experience with Whitecliff was. Wife and I did a little mini vacation in Stone Ridge, NY and was looking for some tourist activities and Whitecliff tasting popped up. I called over to the winery to get more info, spoke to the owner Yancey who explained as it was Tuesday, they were closed but she was having some friends come by for a private tasting and I was more then welcome to join them. I was amazed that she extended the invitation and boy was I glad she did. We went and spent more then 2 hours tasting 10 different wines and each one was better then the next. If you told me I had to pick 1 wine that we liked the best it wouldn't be easy but Two Cabs really was amazing. We left there with 6 bottles of wine that we're looking forward to finish so we can buy more! I could go on and on about how great the wine was/is, but what really makes me want to give them 10 stars is how great Yancey is. I don't think many owners of a business would invite strangers over to their business while it was closed. It's nice to see an owner who really cares about their product and their customer. I could tell from speaking to Yancey how much pride they have in their product and how important the customer experience is to them. I'm pretty sure I'm never going to get an invite from the president of E & J Gallo Winery as he is probably in a board meeting about best way to maximize profits. In summary, this place is amazing, and if you're ever in the area, this is a must see.

Yelp
We went here this weekend to celebrate my cousins bridal shower. We were a party of ten and confirmed our reservation weeks in advance. We also confirmed that while online could only take groups of six that they would make two separate reservations. When we arrived we were told that only six of us would be allowed to sit and the four of us could "sit on the ground" as all the other tables were reserved. When we showed proof of confirmation, the man behind the counter still wouldn't adjust or accommodate our group. I think the worst part of this was the man who was extremely condescending and rude to our group. It is one thing not being being able to make an accommodation, it is another thing to make a bad situation worst by having a rude and nasty attitude. Worst of all there were multiple tables open and could have easily accommodated our group for the short hour we would have been there. I hope the owner reads the multiple reviews on this man and reconsiders him as an employee as he doesn't advocate a positive brand image for whitecliff. I looked at reviews after our experience here and was not surprised that he was mentioned multiple times. Nonetheless, we will make sure to strike this venue from future visits. FOLLOW UP NOTE: We spoke to management TWICE prior to this event about our size to confirm. Per their own notes and response you were going to book a party of 6 and 4 for our group to accommodate this so the below response is a lie. You literally told us four of us were "welcome to sit on the dirt." Also re: the below response- we agree there is a difference between being rude and your employees epitomized the very essence of being rude and being condescending. Rather than admit an error on your part and accommodate us -your employees shut us down, were nasty and wouldn't even listen to us. The below response only furthers the validation of this.

Yelp
I'm sure the wine is great, but my family, which drove for hours to get here, never got the opportunity to even sit down. We were a party of seven, though when making the reservation, we said only six of us were drinking and they said it's ok. From the moment we got here, it was clear we were not welcome. I want to specially mention how rude, condescending and nasty the manager, Tristan, was. He talked down to us right off the bat -- including "explaining" what a line was to us. I've heard from other customers how great the wine is, but over and over again, I also heard how bad the service is. And yet again, they mentioned Tristan, and how rude he was to them. Before he even noticed that we were a group of seven, he made sure to give us a hard time. I couldn't help but wonder -- since we were a group of Asian Americans, did that play a role? I can't help but notice that other reviewers of color have also singled him out for bad service. I could tell from his comments he doesn't care what his customers think. I hope to get a chance to come here again, and be treated the right way. But I will never come when Tristan is serving.

Yelp
After a long week, spending a Friday afternoon at White Cliff was the best! Second time here... fantastic wine, outstanding fall scenery and great vibes. The rich red flight and the Awosting white were my faves! Some of the best wines in the Hudson Valley! Cynthia and Nell were super helpful with their suggestions. The cheddar we purchaed was outrageous (Five Spoke!!) Gracias!! We will be back!!

Yelp
The one star is for one of their male servers. Completely unfriendly. Acts like everyone is a bother to him. No knowledge of wines. If you see the guy, just walk away and go to other wineries. As good as their wine is, this one person will ruin your trip

Yelp
WILL NOT BE BACK!!! HOW DO THEY STAY IN BUSINESS? We've been there several times and have brought friends as well. So we go last week and when we get there we're greeted by this blond women { I'm writing nice). We wanted to buy a $14 bottle of red blend which we like a lot . We were then told that because of COVID they could not open a bottle for us BUT they could sell a glass for $7. Ok 7x 4 is 28. So first off their blaming it on COVID WHICH IS A LOT OF BS. (Other wineries and whiskey places are not pulling this BS. We left and went to other wineries and told them this story and they all agreed that Whitecliff was just trying to make MORE MONEY OFF OF US SUCKERS. WILL NOT BE BACK SORRY TO SAY. BY BLONDY AND WHITECLIFF. Oh. We traveled 70 miles to come to this so winery. Thanks for the hospitality.

Yelp
I am so shocked to see my favorite winery have such a low rating . Why??? Well, you have to always read those reviews . Most one star reviews are from one group of people, who went there , had a not very nice experience and they all wrote about it. Not fair!! It looks like it was a mistake on the owner/ manager part and we get it , it was very disappointing, but don't ruin these people's business !The owner even apologized over and over again. You don't see this very often on Yelp. I am a club member and a big fan of both the premises and the wine. I also drive over an hour to come and support people who make great wine and are proud of it. I agree , sometimes the girls who do the tastings look like they don't care to be there, but have you tried to hire ? Nowadays it's a miracle if you find someone who wants to work and has a passion for the job. With that said , give this winery a try, you won't regret it!! Except you, white Zinfandel , peach schnapps lovers, I'm sorry this is real wine here!

Yelp
Stunning setting and lovely, helpful staff. Nell was our host and provided good background info and wine knowledge. We had the best time I've had during the pandemic - plenty of space, safety precautions in place and wonderful wine. Great cheeses, snax, etc.. our fave NY winery.

Yelp
Tried to go today and it looks like a nice place, but the blonde woman who "greeted" us when we walked in immediately took an attitude to my group and completely soured the afternoon. I'll take my business elsewhere even for one glass of wine.

Yelp
Long before I lived in the area, I would visit as a tourist for the amazing wine and view. Now that I'm local, I am happy to have this gem near home. The Migliore family is warm, helpful, and give back to their community. I have worked with them on events and I have asked for their help with charitable causes. A wonderful business all around!

Yelp
Unfortunately, my friends & I tried to visit this vineyard and were approached by a women who pretty much asked us what do we want when no one had even handed us menus yet or explained the process. She was extremely rude as if just our presence had bothered her. We tried to order a bottle of wine for $24 instead of paying $10/glass and were instantly denied. It looks like another reviewer had the same issue and a manager advised they would appropriately update their website but still have not. I wouldn't have wasted our time and effort. Never coming back again.
