10 U.S. Ski Destinations That Are Just As Spectacular in the Summer

"Located in the small town of Wilmington near historic Lake Placid, Whiteface Mountain is an enchanting retreat for the whole family. Visitors can play nine-hole disc golf, fly fish on the Ausable River, dine at the highest food truck in New York, and take a gondola to the top of Little Whiteface. Soak up the scenery — from lush hardwood forests to spectacular waterfalls — on a guided nature walk or trek up Bear Den Mountain for a more challenging trail. And no trip to the Adirondacks is complete without a drive up the mountain along Veterans Memorial Highway to see the two-story stone castle and 360-degree panoramic views at the summit." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Visited 11/20/22 May be the best on the east sheerly on the vertical and the slides. I frequent snowbird a lot and the slides look like the closest thing to west coast terrain "in bounds" on the east coast. Never got to ride them yet though. New York is a little more "ski bum" friendly than Vermont, in that there are plenty of good rest stops on the major highways. I'm from Baltimore and have to drive far no matter where i go but i like to ride different resorts each day and travel to get the best if the conditions. Whiteface was one of the last big major east coast resorts in the U.S I visited but is one of my favorite despite it being November with not much open they got the summit open and i was able to get a few top to bottom runs.

I had an amazing time skiing here. The food options were great, the service was fantastic, the slopes were clear, and the views were beyond beautiful. Definitely recommend for all skiers and I can’t wait to go again.

First time here. I've done a lot of skiing in the Northeast. Really liked this mountain. We were here last year, but at 25 below zero, we skipped the skiing. This year it was significantly more mild, about 12 degrees. Picking up the passes, getting situated and on the mountain were simple. The lifts were well run, there were no lines when we were there, and the slopes were well maintained. The lodges were all very nice and also well maintained. DON'T MISS: Whether you can ski from the peak or not, take the cloudsplitter gondola to the peak. The view is outstanding and you can ski blue all the way down. If you are not inclined, you can take the gondola right back down. Can't wait for our next trip!

In December 2022, we enjoyed a fantastic skiing trip. Despite accidentally leaving my skis in the parking lot, the staff at the lost and found kindly held onto them until I could retrieve them. I’m truly grateful to Jordan for his prompt responses and assistance throughout the process.

Good mountain with gooood blue trails. However, they have a labeling problem at this existing place on planet earth. See what I could correct below: Lookout Below= DOUBLE BLACK Parts of the Wilmington Trail= BLACK Skyward= DOUBLE BLACK Approach= BLUE

Great mountain for immediate and up skiers and snowboarders. Beginners will be fine, but wouldn't recommend first time learners.
