Whitlow's DC

I went to Whitlows DC for Super Bowl Sunday and had a Blast. I’ve gone there at night where it’s packed and more of a party scene so being there in the early evening was a change of pace. My friends and I received the best service from Michelle and Maddie. The second floor was packed with tables and they handled the rapid flow of business very well. I was impressed by this cause most bartenders and servers can succumb to the “weeds” but they kept it moving and were very organized. We had Jell-O shots, Boozey peach iced tea on draft and apps. Sadly I did not get a photo of the smoked wings,chicken wrap and jumbo sized jalapeño poppers but they were excellent. Great place, great staff and great Vibe. See you Around…Cheers!!!!

I went to Whitlow's DC with friends for Trivia Night, which is, apparently, the city-wide past time here. Along with very tasty drinks, the bar food is exactly as it should be - delicious.

They are doing a great job with Covid guidelines. The prices are very good. The food’s good. Mimosas deal it’s convenient. Very nice customer service. Quick service. We had a blast. Perfect for groups, they have a rooftop, outdoor seating, and a chill ambiance. I recommend this place.

Clean and consistent. Wonderful night club on the weekends. The restaurant isn't bad either. There selection of beers is rather wonderful. And theirs an earshot from the Metro if you can't find a DD for the night. Best of all is the upper deck/dance space on the second story. Definitely a DC hot spot for all, especially if you like the night life

This place is great to eat and have some brews with friends and family. The service is always awesome and havent really had a bad experience to date. The food was really good and it came out fast during this my last visit. I had a friend visiting from abroad and she totally loved it. I definitely recommend to visit.

This place was great, my only complaint would be that it was super loud inside due to the echoes in the space. The outside was great, they have fans to blow on people sitting on the patio. Drink menu was good and they have food options from the pizza place next door. Overall a great experience.

my friends + I looove Whitlow’s for a night out. last night, however, my bartender was a total dick and my check was auto gratted 20%. That’s totally fine but should adding an auto grat give bartenders the freedom for their service to suck? Probably not

Big fan of the new location. Their happy hour is fantastic, $8 draft cocktails (including espresso martinis) and it runs till 8pm! I have also heard the rooftop has a great vibe although I have yet to check it out.

This place was super cute and fun! The staff was so attentive, best bartender! She was great!! I went with my friend, they had an event going on, it was called "Tara's Hoot Camp(y) Brunch" the theme was Ms. Roper, we played bingo and watched a drag show!! I ordered the stuffed tater tots, they were good but it wasn't enough (I was hungry) lol so I also order the impossible burger. Over all loved the atmosphere, and all the Ms Ropers!!

Good spot to come to have a quick bite with the nightlife. We were looking for a place to have a bite on a Thursday Night, during Howard University Homecoming Week. Whitlow's was open there was a visible rooftop. Also, it was listed on Yelp as an option above 3 stars. We arrived and the ground floor is a diner-like U-shaped dining area of booths and dining counter seating. There was a man doing trivia trivia and some music was automatically playing on a speaker. We ventured upstairs and the rooftop has bar-height tables for 2-4 people. There was a crowd enjoying the Thursday Night Football Game, there are about 5 TVs mounted high. There was a game of cornhole happening right in the middle of the walkway in front of the bar and DJ. The DJ was good. The view from the rooftop is grand. There is a 270 degree view of U Street, the U Street Corridor, Shaw, and a bit of Howard University. You order food across the room with the bartender. We were puzzled because there are 3 men in server uniforms (complete with aprons, Whitlow's shirts, apron towels, and all) that were bussing tables and bringing food and drinks out. We thought that they would come to take our orders. I asked one of them if I could order food (he was socializing with some customers) and he said to order at the har. We walked over and I ordered the Wedge Salad but the bartender said that he was out of those so I changed to a Cobb Salad with Chicken and a red wine. My cousin also placed her food order with white wine. We did not like that the wine was in a plastic cup...BOOOOO! Food was decent, wine was good, view was amazing, and game was nice to have. I may not return but this was a good experience.

Stopped by to grab a few drinks with friends this afternoon-- pretty standard drinks. They do have brunch specials which seem good, but we just had brunch somewhere else so we didn't order any food. The waitress was quick and friendly, and we really didn't have to wait at all. Plenty of seating throughout!

On the last Monday night of the year, my fraternity brothers and I gathered at Whitlow's, a multi-story bar for drinks. We enjoyed the Raspberry Ginger Beret and Caribbean Root Beer on the heated rooftop. However, even though the jello shots were only $3, if they only have cherry, don't get it unless you like the taste of Robitussin!

A crowded bar with 3 levels. Level 1 for a chill night, level 2 was empty minus the large line for the famous 3rd floor. Bathrooms on level 2. The bouncer and staff on the 3rd floor were quite nice and we enjoyed the drink wheel option. Drink prices were decent. Definitely for like mid 20s during the day but they have nice TVs on the 3rd floor.

noisy sports bar but the food was good and freshly made. Friendly service is another plus. The onion rings were pretty damn good.

Came in here real quick to grab a drink and saw all their wonderful specials. Bring a dc girl I've seen this building when it wasn't whitlows but now I want to experience! It seems as though the night I went they had like a dance class or like trivia or something and I love me a bar mix! Server was kind.

Randomly stopped by with a friend Monday @ 9pm. Bright, clean spacious. There is Trivia on Monday nights starting at 7p. We ordered drinks at the bar and moved upstairs to the rooftop. 3rd floor views of the street out-front. Beautiful way to end our evening. TVs in the dining area and rooftop. Bathrooms were clean.

Let me just start by saying MIKE THE MANAGER WITH THE DARK HAIR & FACIAL Or whomever he is , is very rude. I literally work next door and we give this place discounts all the time and we inquired about the football wings that we ordered last weekend and it was a huge issue because his employees weren't supposed to do it . Why is it my fault. For them to just move to U st and just have a negative mannerism towards your neighbors is crazy. He mentioned while I was speaking with him that we only give them 10% no matter what we give that is not what we are talking so why was that bought up? I ask for the GM name and the server in the pictured lied about who it was but what she fails to realize is that I asked her because whitlows is in Arlington restaurant and guess what I am an Arlingtonian... I don't wanna play the race card but I was the only black person in there asking a question. So let's cut to the point I don't recommend whitlows or Dwight or the girl that lied about whom the GM is! I will be reaching out to the actual GM who is Mike Egan or John Williams because this is crazy and the way Dwight talked to me was not cool or OK. Welcome to U st .

Great happy hour, including draft cocktails, lasted til 8pm. Friendly staff. Themed specials for Mardi Gras. And excellent tv setup (five tvs on main level).

Went to Whitlows after Pride in the evening. The vibe was chill and low key. The server was attentive but also let me and my friend talk and gossip a while. We got drinks and the nachos and loaded potato skins. I got the GLUTEN FREE BUN with an impossible burger. The fries were solid considering what you could get as bar fries. I liked all the food and I loved the espresso martinis. I went to 801 next food didn't get good service and ended up leaving to come here.

I came here with a group of co-workers for a Happy Hour for a departing colleague. Keep in mind that this was on a Tuesday evening for Happy Hour, and we wound up staying for several hours. There were 3 levels, and we stayed on the rooftop the whole time. The good: We went straight up to the rooftop, and at the time we got there, it was pretty empty. It was pretty hot outside, and I often am not a fan of rooftops when the temps are high, but theirs was covered and they had lots of fans, so it actually felt pretty good. We ordered several appetizers (nachos, mozzarella sticks, shishito peppers, potato skins, fries, and fried pickles). All of them were really good and had good portions. In particular, the mozzarella sticks were really tasty. They were fairly large, had a good amount of cheese, and they had really good flavor. The nachos were absolutely loaded with toppings (in a good way) and all of the flavors blended nicely. And the fried pickles had a really light fried coating which I liked much better than other places I've had them at. Additionally, the drinks *tasted* really good. I had the dragon fruit margarita, the green line tea, the passion fruit paloma, and a long Island. All of them had good flavor. The bar tenders were also quick, so it didnt take long to get drinks. Why I deducted a star: The drinks tasted good, but they didn't seem to have much alcohol in them. I'm not sure if it's because I had several of the draft cocktails (maybe those aren't as strong), but it took 6ish drinks (and ordering a non-menu Long Island Iced Tea) for me to feel any sort of buzz. Otherwise, it sort of felt like I was just drinking juice. Additionally, they automatically add 20% gratuity. Is this on the menu in small print? Yes. But several of us did not see it and wound up tipping an additional 20% on top. After looking at other reviews, it seems we are not the only ones. Frankly, I think the automatic gratuity/added percentage is getting out of hand in the DMV. If an establishment chooses to do this, it should be made very clear. Otherwise, build the upcharges into your prices for business costs and let people choose their tip. I say this as a person who absolutely appreciates service staff and who often tips my bartenders 30% anyway. It's just a bad practice to force a certain percentage tip, in my opinion. That said, I will likely come back because I did enjoy the environment, the food was really solid, and the bartenders/food runners were quick and friendly.

I was there for a birthday party and the band! Music was great! Didn't eat, I order a mixed drink and wow! $13 on top Of it they add the tax after the gratuity that they add to it. I try it explained this to the bar tender but he didn't understand. He reply "I only work here" So yes my bill was a bit $$$ If I ever go back it's because I enjoy the music.

Fun ambiance! I went for a couple of birthday meetups and had a blast! Love the roof top and the brunch is good too! There's multiple floors and i think there are days with a live band but i personally haven't been on those days. Look forward to going back!

I never thought I'd order food here because we're usually here late at night, but the buffalo chicken wrap and fries were really good! All of our food came out at once which was nice! It was a bit of a late night crowd but we still enjoyed it!

cool and very large hangout bar on u street! it's massive and they have some kind of deal going on every day (trivia on mondays at 7pm, djs on the weekend, and bucket nights on tuesdays). the rooftop is very fun and there's games like pong and darts and stuff on the inside. the beer selection is great and honestly the food isn't bad at all either (the chicken wrap and burgers are the best). it's a bit on the younger side when it comes to the crowd (arlington takes dc) and lots of college kids but still a great time as the bartenders are super chill and there's always lots to do!

Solid happy hour! There are three stories and the rooftop is awesome. Definitely recommend for a group during the week. Food is okay bar food. LGBTQ friendly but there is a bro feel. A step into first floor of the bar and the other levels are only accessible via stairs.

Whitlows has great food and great service. Kelsey upstairs at the bar was friendly and helpful and quickly got my food order in before the kitchen closed. I wish the kitchen stayed open later. I had fries, that were well seasoned and a burger that was decent, but nothing special. I also tried the wings, which were a little dry and felt like they may have been a day old. What I really wanted to share about is the incredible music I experienced. There is a jam session that happens every Tuesday night and the mix of people that attended was very eclectic and inspiring. As someone visiting the area, I feel like I got a great sense of the community that supports events like this. Sometimes the sound was a little off and there seemed to be feedback, or I couldn't hear some Of the musicians, but it didn't take too much away from my experience. Ultimately I would come back!

Decent HH specials. Was not very busy when I went right after work. Staff seems friendly enough, security at the front checking everyone's IDs. Seems clean and slight decor in the back patio / art on walls. Not sure if it lives up to the previous location hype, but good drinks, plus pizza & fries from next door that you can pick up from the between "window". I would go back and see how it weighs in the second time. Not bad but not mind blowing! Be mindful of the gratuity on your final bill.

This is a response to John K I was the "" white Guitar Player, set up in the corner. I didn't tell you nothing. It was my first time doing the session but many of the musicians are people have known for years. You are not gonna have a more inclusive session than the one we had. I think you have seriously misinterpreted what you were seeing. They switched guitar players because the other dude was there first. Everybody there is cool and supportive. To call them anti-White racist is really wild. And to call them racist piranhas? I highly recommend you stay off the scene. It's amazing how much someone's bias and belief in a narrative can bend their perception and conclusion so far from reality. There really was nothing but love in that room bro

I have been to Whitlows a few times and it was been fun, but recently I had a very bad experience with the staff. Almost all the staff were very rude and irritable, directing people through doorways and to stairs. This I can overlook because I can only imagine the kinds of people they have to deal with. But later my friend and I were standing next to the bar on the third floor and the bar back wanted us to move out of an unmarked "staff only" zone. Instead of asking us to step aside, he PUSHED me and my friend out of the way and yelled that we can't stand there. There was no clear way of knowing that was a staff only zone and there is absolutely no reason he needed to put his hands on us. He pushed my friend hard and she was very upset and tried to talk to him about it and he just turned his back to us. Extremely rude, unprofessional, and violent. We were completely sober also and would have happily gotten out of the way if asked. Whitlows please do better with training your staff.

What a jam! What a vibe! I used to frequent their Arlington location, but I love this spot even more. Great staff, fabulous food/drink, and a really welcoming spot. Nice work on the reopening, y'all!!

The jalapeño poppers... gross. Soggy and not crispy at all. The smash burger... do not recommend. Poorly seasoned and tastes like struggle and sadness.

A perfect espresso martini and friendly bartender. We didn't stay because it was trivia night (nope!) and we had somewhere to be. Still...Would recommend!

Whitlows is a great time for drinks and food. I always get great service and the bar staff is so friendly. The drinks are really good and decently priced. I've had the Cuban which was delicious but not authentic. It tasted like it was made with bbq pulled pork which isn't authentic but still pretty good. The fried chicken sandwich was amazing but could use a sauce.

It's a typical bar, but there was a roaring wood burning fire in the back area which was definitely a nice ambience. Happy hour options are kinda limited, no wine on happy hour although the regular wine prices are not bad at $9 a glass and rails are $5 at HH, which is a steal nowadays. I had soba noodles with tofu. It was decent, nothing to write home about. My friends arugula salad was fresh and decent. You're also allowed to carry in pizza from Andy's next door if you like. I would come back just for drinks in the future.

Whitlows' Yelp review should be divided into 2. If you go on a Friday or Saturday night, be prepared to miserably wade through the crowded bro-world plastic cup crowd. But Whitlows' weekday happy hour, when it's chill and peaceful -- is incredible. The beer -- including my fav Guiness on tap -- is all half off. This review, obvi, is for their HH.

Absolutely love Whitlows! Drinks are great and they have awesome specials for happy hour too! Staff here are so friendly! Brandon, Connie, Amanda, and I think his name is Andrew (wears glasses and usually a backwards hat) are the best bartenders!!! Definitely recommend going here!

Unreasonably rude staff. Horrible drinks! Even after we asked if they made martinis. We asked for "Titos" martinis but they were clearly rail. Rude and unhelpful in the drink department. Need to get more customer-centered bartenders that won't charge $22 for a half glass of deep eddys and olive juice out of a bottle. Do better. This is from a bartender.

Great food , best perch I have ever had and the servers are the best .everyone who works there are such hardworking folks and they always have a smile on there face!!

Love this spot! Great drinks and awesome bartenders! They have jazz nights on Tuesdays and all day happy hour on Mondays and Sundays. Always have a blast every time I go!

Good food good people good time... Arlington has come to DC. All the Wilson Blvd. good times have come to U st. Worth checking out.

Where do I Begin??  So I Visted Witlows on Ust today as a first time guest.. just to watch the Philadelphia Eagles first pre season against the Baltimore ravens... the experience was awful .. Since it was my first visit I wanted to check out the  entire 3 level establishment..so after checking out all 3 levels I decided  it was  too hot on the rooftop, no chairs at 2nd level bar due to them getting ready for the Saturday night dance party...  so level 1 was where I Parked myself to have a beer and enjoy the game.. So I was approached by a Latina Bartender her name?? Who care..  she said "you want something?"  Me "let me look for a second" as she just stood and stared Me "I'll have a devil backbone" Her  "open or close the tab?" b4 she even gave me the beer? Me " I can pay for it now?"  So she bring the beer and the check and throws the check on the bar and ping pong reaction i tossed it back ..as if I was some random guy ( black male, not going to tip anything) not to mention 20% was added anyway but me being a big time restaurant guy I would of NEVER just left 2$ that was included ‍ So I gave here the 20$ and said "bring my Change back down to the Penny" Her "we round the change up here" what?? So you STEALING also ‍ So she bring the 11$ back .. and I said and probably shouldn't but I say  "Just remember you are Latina..You are NOT White"   she stormed off for a manager, security, anybody she could find.. Manager, Security,  Everyone finally  comes  over to me and say "sir you have to leave". Took the beer  Me " I'll leave just give me my money back for the beer ..or give me to go cup and I'll go... The Manger proceeded to put his whole hand in the beer like f*ck u .. I'll see u again sir #facts .. Police came and I'm not allowed in ... no problem  but get this place together b4 it really gets ugly .. this was a lot but ..any lawyers out there‍

I only been twice and it was during happy hour. So on Monday's they have hh all day when the open. Tuesday they have 25% off tequila and a singo bingo. Wednesday they have 25% off whiskey. Thursday hh from 5-8pm they also have live music on this day. Friday hh from 5-7pm. Everyone knows Whitlows from va but the owners decided to bring whitlows to u street. Hh is really cheap where rail drinks being $5 and draft beers and speciality drinks being $8. The place features two bars in the inside and an outside patio. The place does get full as the night goes on. The only get there food from Andy's pizza which is next door. I don't really eat pizza so that's the only con is I wish they had food, so I wouldn't hve to go to get dinner next or before. I will definitely be back since it's near my friends house and I will cheap it out on the weekend.

Whoever is the front bouncer who checks the IDs at the front made me feel so welcomed! Loved his energy! ( it was a Thursday night if that narrows it down)

Three beers for fifty bucks, Not worth it, oh shucks, Bouncers aggressive and rude, Fun night turns into bad mood.

Not sure what the end game is here. Whitlows took exiting space and did nothing, added a minimal menu that is online and you have to pick it up and unneeded (and uncomfortable) security. Basically a college hangout where your tip is already added. Disappointing as I remember Whitlows on Wilson fondly.

awful service . security was letting only men and cutting the line not just one but a big crowd. when I finally walked in since two of my friends went in before me, two of the security dragged me out for no reason and one of them used her hands to drag me out when I was completely sober. i have never experienced something so bad. 0 stars and the security could catch a charge.

They don't live up to their VA rep. Vibe is so disappointing and they add 20% gratuity to all checks before you realize. Totally taking advantage of people who aren't paying attention. I would leave no stars, but I respect who they used to be.

Unfortunately, this establishment is unsafe for women to go to. My friend was physically taken from the bar without notice and without explanation - and thrown onto the street without her phone, wallet, or coat. It's unacceptable to treat women this way and a huge safety issue. I'm shocked at the way this establishment handles issues and extremely disappointed in the staff.

I can not overstate how terribly my friend and I were treated here. Their bouncers are extremely rough, unprofessional and irrational. We were roughly thrown out and treated like animals for merely going into the same bathroom stall. We received no explanation, no apology and we were thrown out on the street with no phone or wallet late at night and alone. The woman bouncer jeered at us and flicked us of when we asked to come back in to get out stuff. It was such a terrifying situation to be in as a woman to be so roughly treated and left out on the street alone late at night. Thankfully we are okay and our friends eventually were able to help us. I caution other women to be careful when coming here because clearly they have no consideration for womens safety.

Whitlows is awesome. Brandon is the best bartender. Food is good and drinks and ambience so fun

Great Food, music, and reasonable drinks when it was the Virginia location. Would like to see the same menu at new location.
