Excellent food and ambience. The pie was very unique and tasted great + juicy oysters. I went by myself, however I think it’s more suitable for couples or family meals as the platters seem mostly for sharing. Ps: a special thanks to the waitress Cosima (hope I spelled right) for arranging a seat in such a busy day

A true Whitstable institution! This beautiful Victorian building with views of the sea has been serving fresh seafood for 45 years, and it’s easy to see why it’s a local favorite. The atmosphere is bustling and cozy—it gets packed incredibly fast, but we were lucky enough to snag a table as walk-ins. The service was attentive and genuinely friendly from start to finish. As for the food: exceptionally fresh and executed to a very high standard. Everything seem to be homemade including the mayonnaise and tartare sauce! Every dish was delicious. While it is on the pricier side, the quality justifies the cost. A wonderful lunch and we will definitely be back!

Stopped here on a Saturday and made a last minute reservation. The restaurant itself is really nice and right on the beachfront. The decor inside is very fitting and is aesthetically pleasing. We had the scallops and three cheese baked crab gratin for starters and shared the cod with some sides. All the food was delicious, definitely on the upper end of prices but it tasted like good quality. I would go back for sure next time

My husband and I had dinner here for my birthday in January 2026. We were warmly greeted, shown to our table, allowed to choose a different table, and met our server, Anna. She was great fun, perfectly attentive, and helped anlong with her colleague Laura to make the entire experience one of the best I’ve ever had. The oysters, both native wild Whitstable oysters and the farmed rock oysters were delicious. We tried two of the different types of cooked oysters or hot oysters. One with Parmesan and garlic butter, the other with black truffle and champagne butter. Wow! Everything else from the three cheese crab dip to the pan fried scallops was extraordinary. We finished with a mirangue and strawberry with pistachios. It was such a great experience we booked for the next night on the spot. That meal was equally delicious and emphasized how the servers make or break the dining experience.

This place was a bit ridiculous. We completely understand that seafood is pricey, but the menu feels designed to charge extra for every basic element. From the start: even the starters don’t come with bread and butter. We have to order them separately. If you don’t, you’re basically left eating very salty mussels or crab with nothing to balance it out. For mains, you can choose a side (potatoes, chips, or salad), but the portions are shockingly small. We were served three potatoes. The seabass is £55 and looks like it’s meant for two people to share, yet it still came with only three potatoes. For that price, it’s honestly unacceptable. What made it worse was that the staff never explained any of this when we ordered, so we only realised after the food arrived. Before you visit, I’d strongly recommend thinking twice, especially if you expect a properly balanced meal for what you pay.

Came for my birthday in September, and though the views were lovely, the food was much too expensive for what it was. The portions were small and the preparation unexceptional. The staff was wonderful and the service was impeccable! Bit of a tourist trap, that’s all.

I'll admit I'm not a great seafood afficianado but I thoroughly enjoyed the food here. We decided to get a selection of starters that we could all share. My highlights were the dressed crab and pan fried scallops, a special mention to some of the best chips I've ever had. The oysters were lovely and fresh as you would expect. The restaurant has a lovely relaxed atmosphere. The staff here are lovely, very attentive and friendly. Definitely not the cheapest but would come again for a special occasion

Food and service here is excellent. Lovely restaurant with a great view. Oysters are fresh n tasty, though is a little too small for the season. Sole n fish and chips is lovely. Crabs are fresh n lovely. Price is a bit overpriced though.

Went here with a bunch of friends for dinner. The weather was pretty dull in Whitstable but the atmosphere inside was great. Our server was attentive and patiently persevered the bad jokes that my friend Tony was cracking. Everything on the menu is seafood, so don't come here looking for steak...but the seafood is fresh and well cooked. The sea bass was delicious...although Tony wanted more potatoes...but the others who had it were content...Tony's a bit of a complainer. I had the sea bream and it was excellent. Recommend this to anyone lucky enough to be in Whitstable for the weekend. PS Tony asked me to point out that he did bring his Sonos speaker with him for the weekend so we could listen to music, and he felt the review above didn't really communicate the value he was bringing to the weekend.

Oysters served several delicious ways! I tried the Rockefeller with spinach and cheese and Casino with bacon, Parmesan and a little spice...excellent! The grilled scallops with a pint of Oyster Stout (staying with the theme ) were perfect, as were the cabbage and bacon and heirloom tomato and onion sides. Right on the beach I look forward to coming back during a sunny day.

This review applies to the mobile beach stall of The Whitstable Oyster Company! Apart from the restaurant proper, at the eastern end of Whitstable Harbour you will find a mobile food stall (I suppose it's the same company!), which looks very modest indeed but offers fresh sea food (from oysters to fish and chips) at a competitive price. Here, you will pay just UKP 9 for better than decent fish & chips (I hate oysters!) - whereas a few hundred yards away the same quality might cost you UKP 17. There are several beers from the Whitstable Bay Brewery available on tap (or from keg), of which I recommend the Oyster Stout, which is a perfect fit with sea food. Friendly, quick service. My fish and chips were well above average, with both cod and chips crunchier than usual, and even a small salad garnish attached. Recommended for a quick fix!

Excellent oysters and the atmosphere is true coastal excitement. Their own beer selection is pretty tasty as well.

We had a lovely dinner there last night. The staff was incredibly helpful. The moules mariniere were stellar! My daughters mackerel was delicious and perfectly cooked. The only way to improve the experience would be to make the menus (hand-written) legible. It took us at least 30 minutes and loads of questions to decipher it.
