The absolute worst thing about this Whole Foods is the parking lot. There seems to be some sort of invisible cloak hanging over the place that transforms seven out of ten drivers into road raging loons once they enter the place. Parking there can be about as terrifying as getting across one of those self-controlled intersections in Ethiopia. People will pull out of spaces without looking, cut you off in order to sneak into the spot you have been waiting for or park their extra large SUVs in one and a half spaces instead of the designated spot between the white lines. If you manage to get yourself safely into the store, congratulations!
The atmosphere in the store is a strange mix of primarily surly customers and extremely friendly workers. If you thought your worries were over once you left the parking lot, you are sadly mistaken. Navigating the aisles is about as tricky as driving during rush hour in Los Angeles. In such a nice place, I'm not sure why most of the people shopping are perpetually scowling, but it doesn't set a very nice tone. Definitely avoid going shopping there if you are on crutches. People don't like to wait, and impatience followed by eye rolls and heavy sighs are the norm. God forbid you get between a hungry customer and her wheat grass smoothie.
Complaints aside, the store itself is nice. The salad bar is one of the best in the area, and the cheese section is phenomenal. Since I love cheese, I stop here often. Those who work behind the counter know their products, and they are always willing to offer samples. The overall variety in the store is exceptional, and the shelves are always well stocked. I appreciate that there's a lot of turnover, so you almost never come home with a product past its expiration or "sell by" date. The bakery is hit or miss. Sometimes the bread and pastries look great; other times, the rolls are burnt and the croissants flat.
The cafe seats are extra hard and uncomfortable, and it seems like the dining area is always cold. Extra benches can be found near the cashiers, though, and those are much more comfortable.
Lastly, yes, it is expensive. I don't need to make any hackneyed jokes about the prices, but you can find equally high prices in many other health food stores around town.
