Amazon’s $15 an Hour Raises for Whole Foods Employees Come With a Catch | Eater

"An internal email from CEO John Mackey obtained by Gizmodo laid out how the company will implement Amazon’s $15-an-hour floor: workers earning under $14 will be bumped to $15, employees already making at least $14 receive a $1 raise, and team leaders get a $2 increase. That formula has produced pay compression complaints—one six-year employee who’d been promoted five times says they’ll now earn only $1 more than new hires. Acquired by Amazon last year, the chain’s workers have had mixed reactions: while the wage announcement is celebrated by some as a win for the Fight for $15, many staff fear hours will be cut or view the raise as a tactic to blunt unionization; organizers from a group called Whole Worker say the move has heightened rather than eased union concerns, especially given leaked anti-union training videos and the parent company’s reputation for opposing unions." - Whitney Filloon

Google
Bright, well-organized, and spotless, making shopping a pleasant experience. Their selection of signature and organic products is excellent, with plenty of high-quality options across departments. The location is fantastic, right in the heart of the city for easy access. Friendly staff, always welcoming, and always ready to help. The deli offerings, while fresh, rarely change and lean on the pricey side. Still, a solid spot for premium groceries with urban convenience.

Found hair on my pineapple slices…while eating them! The sanitation score at this location definitely going down after I make this call. Smh.

Google
OK so this sort of market might be old hat to some but I was really impressed with everything except perhaps the cafe. Choice of self checkout or friendly checkout operators. Wide variety of fresh food and groceries. Super salad bar was the highlight for me. Also hot takeout options. Nice raisin oatmeal soft cookies but why oh why does every other cookie have to have chocolate in it? Chocolate is bad for certain heart issues. Anyway a great selection if that's what you like. I tried the cafe a couple of time and was a bit underwhelmed with the resulting brews. However, it has a nice seating area.

I cannot say enough about the exceptional service I received from Anastasia and Luka at the Charlotte Uptown Whole Foods, specifically in the Specialties department. They completely transformed what started as a stressful, overwhelming Thanksgiving morning into an experience I will never forget. I was out of town, in a panic, and desperately needed a charcuterie board on Thanksgiving Day. From the moment I called the store frantic, Anastasia reassured me that she could help as long as I came in. When I arrived, she greeted me with calm professionalism and immediately took charge in the most comforting way. Anastasia didn’t just help me pick out items — she gave me a mini masterclass. She walked me through different cheeses, explained why certain pairings work, helped me choose nuts, crackers, fruits, and other items, and educated me on how to build a beautiful and balanced board. Her knowledge, patience, and warm personality made the entire process enjoyable. She truly went above and beyond in every sense of the word. Because my request was a big one — especially on a holiday — Anastasia brought in Luka to help assemble the trays. Luka’s attention to detail, patience, and professionalism immediately stood out. Together they created a stunning charcuterie presentation that my entire family raved about. And to top it all off, Luka helped me load the large order into my car, making sure everything was secure for the trip. What began as a frantic situation turned into a joyful, optimistic start to my Thanksgiving. My family absolutely loved the presentation and every delicious item Anastasia recommended. Thanks to Anastasia and Luka, Whole Foods Uptown has earned a loyal customer for life. Their dedication, knowledge, kindness, and genuine care are unmatched. Management should be incredibly proud to have employees of this caliber — they represent the very best of what customer service should be. Highly, highly recommend visiting this location and especially the Specialties team. They are phenomenal.

Google
The meat selection appear to be of solid quality. However the rest of the store lacked any substance. The bagels were old and dry, everything on the food bar needed to be replaced, and it was very little selection for beverages anywhere. Getting a cup of coffee here was rather pleasant, and it was nice that the kiosk did not ask for a tip for such a simple service. My overall experience here was just lukewarm and nothing special.

Google
The staff and service is always pretty good but last week I went to buy some Salmon and I must say Bridgette was the most helpful. She thoroughly explained the differences in each Salmon and also went into depth how Wholefoods Farm Raised Salmon is much different than competitors, which I didn’t know. Let’s just say I love someone who is knowledgeable and polite. Coho salmon was delicious!

Google
I’ve been to several Whole Foods markets across the south east and I can tell you without a doubt, the uptown Charlotte Whole Foods is the best! Their customer service is excellent. The hot bar is always fresh and delicious. They have the best specialty cheese selection I’ve ever seen! The coffee bar is better than the Starbucks up the street. 10/10

Google
I usually don’t write reviews, but this was the worst Whole Foods experience I’ve ever had. The customer service was extremely poor. I went to order pizza, and the employee working there was rude and dismissive. Instead of helping me, she told me to walk around because she didn’t want to bend over in front of me. That’s completely unprofessional and not acceptable behavior for someone working in customer service. If that’s how she feels, then maybe she shouldn’t be in that role. This experience left a very negative impression, and I’ll think twice before returning to this location.

Yelp
I love visiting my brother in Charlotte and one thing that we enjoy doing a lot is walking through the city and checking out areas to grab a drink and relax. We came across Whole Foods and my brother said why don't we read here!? I said of course! We grabbed some wine and got to sit at one of the many tables they have for anyone to sit and grab a bite at. The ambiance was really nice and the staff were accommodating as well. I have been wearing a boot because I hurt my foot and they let me grab an extra chair to elevate it while I read and hung out there. My brother and I were craving pizza and we went and never realized prior that you can order a slice and not a whole pie if you wanted! We got two big slices for $7.50 which was definitely a steal! I'll definitely be coming back here again to this location.

Yelp
The last couple of times I've come here the arm to the gate was broken. The parking lot was full probably because locals found out and were parking here. I like the convenience of it. Today the hot bar was limited and picked over. The store was packed and I guess I came a little too late in the afternoon. My favorite section is the produce section. I also like that they validate parking when you shop here. I'll continue to come as long as they remain consistent and sell the items I like best.

Yelp
I placed an on-line order for the Gumbo soup, it's really good made with andouille sausage & shrimp. Even though they sell dozens of different types of soups, this is so good it's hard to keep it on the shelf. Today, I discovered they had 5 24 ounce containers so I bought them. I been there for pick-up before & have learned you park in the LOWER deck. There you'll find there are designated pickup lanes. You text them when you arrive & they deliver. Today there was a mix up, the young lady who delivered said there were only 2. When I told her I ordered 5, she said she would send her manger out. Sean showed up just a few minutes later & immediately understood the problem & said he would go to the kitchen. He came back in about five minutes with the other three containers. He even took my parking ticket upstairs to get it validated since I had gone past the allotted 10 minutes. I appreciate Sean going above & beyond & demonstrated the level of customer service you expect from a premium grocery like Whole Foods!

Yelp
Since staying uptown for a work thing and always like how local items are easily identified in Whole Foods, I hit this spot up twice in one day to get gifts to bring home and also grab snacks to munch on. Items that I'm bringing home that represent the Carolina's include toffee, cashews, peanuts, salt, jerky, black eyed peas, and I REALLY wish I could bring back and highly recommend trying is this ice cream that looks like fried chicken but is actually vanilla soft serve with an outer hard caramel and corn flakes coating with a chocolate covered pretzel as a bone inside - amazing!

Yelp
Service was fine but sushi NOT so much. The sushi had an overwhelming taste of vinegar which seriously ruined the sushi. I have eaten sushi made in grocery stores and expect the taste and quality to be below that of sushi restaurants or the sushi I make at home. However, this was absolutely the worst sushi I have ever experienced. Had to toss it out due to the very heavy vinegar taste and smell. Now I know to be cautious of the fresh sushi, and likely other products. I just hope the $116 of dry aged steak for tonight's dinner is not compromised in any manner.

Yelp
Produce was fresh, service was fast, and their kombucha selection was perfect. Always a good experience. My salad greens were a little wilted this time. First time I've had that problem here.

Yelp
I go to Whole Foods for: French Macrons Branzio Stuffed Jalapeño Salmon Breakfast Bar (biscuits m, potatoes & bacon ) So easy to find meals to go in the meat section

Yelp
Everything you would expect from a Whole Foods. Good selection of produce, friendly staff, efficient service. The produce quality was great too, and prices below your average urban Whole Foods. Strongly recommended.

Yelp
It's a great location downtown and is within walking distance of the hotels and business offices in the area. For a weekday lunch hour, it wasn't too busy. Their cold bar food options were fresh, but the quality of the hot bar food options wasn't great, either dry or over cooked. The eggplant had a melted (almost burnt) layer of cheese that was solid and dry. The employees at the checkout stations were friendly and speedy.

Yelp
This Whole Foods is a super convenient location. I can walk from home. They seem to have a good assortment of products. The hot bar seems to close a lot earlier than I remember in other locations. They do always have a great selection of prepared foods, soups and of course wines'. Staff are pleasant and helpful.

It's clean, organized, and easy to navigate, from the parking lot to the store and the checkout line.

Yelp
Popped into Whole foods to grab a very specific mineral water for my healthy/bougie friend since I was in the area. I've always loved this Whole Foods! I especially love that they validate parking up to 2 hours. Makes things so convenient Uptown. I parked and found what I needed easily. Always great and friendly service. If only I could afford to actually grocery shop here. The store is always immaculately clean and well stocked. Definitely a great grocer option Uptown.

Yelp
I walked over to this Whole Foods, staying a bit away for business. It's similar to most Whole Foods. Lots of options. However it seemed crawling with Amazon shoppers (WF employees picking out online orders) which was quite the distraction. Every aisle, look left, right, there they are. Got in the way a few times. Apparently Amazon shoppers are the priority. Real people? Not so much. Constant Amazon shoppers, very distracting. Makes the experience unpleasant.

Yelp
Fantastic location. Love that this grocery store has a bar! Barista Drew serves the best drinks day or night. I just wished they staffed the coffee wine+bar a bit better. Great people watching!

Ann C.

Yelp
I used to come to this location multiple days a week to grab lunch at the hot food bar. Over the past few months, I have noticed the quality of food and options has drastically decreased. You can visibly see customers walk by and make disgusted faces as they look at the hot bar. It looks and tastes really bad. The meat is always old and dry, rices and pastas are never properly cooked and it is either mushy or hard as a rock. I had to stop coming here for lunch because it's just a waste of money. I'm sure the grocery store is fine but I DO NOT recommend the hot food bar.
google avatar

Yelp
Whole Foods is great for all the various dietary needs. I stopped in purchase an item that I was not able to find in other stores near me. One thing I like about Whole Foods is the quality of the food or items being purchased, the cleanliness of the stores, and the pleasant nature of the employees. One thing I love about this area of Charlotte is the enclosed parking which makes it so convenient when it's raining outside and the feeling of security.
google avatar

Yelp
Whole Foods is a really great supermarket. They have a ton of items of all different types and varieties...food, drink, health/beauty, etc. It is a huge store as well, with a bar and seating area, if you wanted to eat there. The meats and seafood items at the butcher station are always so fresh and always look great. Goes without saying that the staff is beyond friendly and helpful. They ask if you need anything, will help you get what you need and more! Parking is located on the first floor where the market is, under the apartment complex. Ticketed garage, but validated when making a purchase in the market. Truly a great store!
google avatar

Yelp
I love to come to Whole Foods for lunch. Since it's a grocery store you can literally shop for anything you want to eat. There are prepared sandwiches and wraps, cold entrees that you can microwave in the seating area, slices of pizza, sushi, hot soup, salad and fruit bar, olive bar and a hot item bar where it's sold by weight. Healthy and not so healthy options on the hot bar. Several meat items, fish and a variety of sides. You can also get cookies, muffins , gelato and small pastries. A craft beer bar and hot coffee. Buy a bottle of wine or a can of beer to go with your meal and pick a seat in the spacious eating area. There is also an outside patio. When I'm done eating I pick up some groceries. The produce department is incredible. Everything is fresh and never picked over. The cheese section is huge. I love that they sell little pieces of cheese so I keep trying different kinds. I often get a small piece of cheese, bread and wine and make a great meal of that. Make sure to go past the floral section. The flowers are so beautiful and reasonably priced. This is a great store for vegans, vegetarians and those of us who eat Meat and fish . The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. Use your Amazon prime to get discounts and don't forget to validate your parking.

Yelp
I love Whole Foods. They always have speciality produce and meat or food items that can be hard to find at popular grocery chains. Things like golden beets, fresh turmeric, sumo oranges, celery root and red snapper. Yes it is a little pricier than some other chains but for not-so-popular items I am willing to pay a little more. I love that a lot of the food is organically sourced and on the healthier side. I'm trying to incorporate more whole and clean foods in my diet and have been buying organic more frequently. The employees are always super friendly and helpful. I am also a frequent user of Prime Now which has been a lifesaver. I use this option regularly and it saves time and prevents me from having to drive to and walk around multiple stores. The shoppers are very efficient and pick the items as requested.
google avatar

Yelp
Lovely to see more food markets, especially higher end ones, making their way to Charlotte. This store has been open for several months now but it's still quite shiny and very upmarket. The usual Whole Foods quality and lineup is on display here from organics in the produce department to humanely processed meats at the butcher to all sorts of chemical-free foods throughout. Early on a Saturday morning, it was still pretty quiet. This made for a great shopping experience and I picked up a few things I needed for the week. They validate parking for a free two hours, so you can have a very leisurely shop and not worry about how a spinning clock for your car. Super! [Review 10855 overall, 625 of 2019.]

Yelp
I only come here for my frozen fruit since I'm a Trader Joe's gyal. But no complaints when I come here. Always clean, food is properly placed, great customer service, never any issues. I frequent here very often

Yelp
I'm visiting the city and it is next to the hotel I'm staying. It is always great to pick up some ready-to-go meal, but it was not available. I'm not sure if it was because of COVID or something else, because it was 7.30 pm. The place is big, clean and it was not crowded.

Yelp
So I came up here to grab the balsamic dressing from the salad bar and it was put up. My bf knew I would be devastated to not have the dressing for my salad so he asked someone for help and they kinda gave him the run around... but someone gave him the name of the dressing turns out they don't carry it in store. so the guy he asked for help finding the dressing on the salad dressing isle went and got Miguel, and he was so wonderful. He couldn't have been any nicer or more helpful. It really makes such a huge difference when you have people that are so kind and want to help you get what you are looking for. Miguel is the reason we will keep returning.

Yelp
I love that this Whole Foods store in downtown is conveniently located. Wow, I can stop in to grab a bite to eat and have a variety of options including getting something warm to eat or drink a cold day. Or, if I need a few items before heading home, I can grab them here. They have manned quick-check out registers near the door for quick in and out. I believe they will validate parking for a limited amount of time so take your ticket into the store with you.

Yelp
I love this place. They always have something new for me to try and pickup. I left the movies at Phillips Place and came for a quick dinner pickup. The grilled salmon is always good and in stock. I eat it cold for a good helping of healthy protein. The cookie bar is my addiction. The pecan pie cookies, Italian wedding, toffee and chocolate covered pretzels and rugelach are my favs.

Yelp
Wow! What a beautiful market this is! First off, parking. It is located in Uptown Charlotte and parking is always a pain, so it's nice that WF offers parking validation- but only with a 2 hour time limit. So, if you came here to chill in the eating area and do work, keep that in the back of your mind. The main reason for my visit was to grab breakfast from the hot bar. I got the vegan tofu scramble, scrambled eggs, turkey bacon and French toast. I appreciate the non pork and non beef options. I was genuinely surprised at the scrambled eggs. Usually when I get scrambled eggs from a buffet line, you can tell that they're either Powdered or frozen. These eggs were seasoned properly and fluffy. The French toast wasn't dry or hard like one would expect from a buffet line- especially one that's located in a grocery store. The clerk was very pleasant and efficient with checking us out. We sat in front of the window at a high top bar type table that was against the window. Our view was of some of Uptown Charlotte, so it gave a good vibe. I will definitely return to try more food from the hot bar.

Yelp
This is a nice grocery store. It has almost everything you could possibly want. Especially if you are vegan, vegetarian, or want to explore any possible food choice. The fruits and veggies are are stocked and fresh. It's actually beautiful walking in and seeing all the colors of the produce. Everything is very neat, clean, and easy to find. The organization is impeccable. The fish, seafood, and meat department is very clean with a variety of meats, fish, and seafood. They also stock all the latest vegan meats, cheeses, and milks. There are really so many choices to anything you could want. The deli and bakery section is also immaculate. Pastries and desserts, including vegan, out the wahzoo. And ready to eat food in many varieties are ready for the east grab and go. Salad bar, hit bar, and olive bar stay stocked with fresh made food. Oh and there's also coffee with barista and pastries. In between all of this, is the middle. Which one can imagine there are still so many types of organic food. Litterally this place stays true to the name. Parking is easy and you can get your ticket validated which is also easy. Oh and Amazon. They can deliver your groceries and sometimes you can drop off amazon returns. This place is pricey so if one is on a budget then this may not be the place. That's why I gave 4 stars. You just can't really shop here on a budget or come here with a good idea of what you want. Of course you can shop online and that makes it easy as well.

Yelp
As of lately I've found myself on this Health kick where I'm doing things to be a better me, and with that I've been visiting a lot of food markets that offer organics and a better selection of fresh foods; which brings me to my Whole Foods Market visit... My how it has changed; the Whole Foods Market I remember used to have a better selection of products and better prices, but since they've merged with Amazon prime it seems that things have changed. Their selection of vitamin extracts and liquid vitamins is slim to none so if that's what you're looking for you have to order online or go to another health food store such as Earth fare. Don't get me wrong there are still many great attributes to this store, like the fresh baked mouth watering pastries, fresh butchers meats and fish, the coffee/beer/gelato cafe, the free water fill station and the chair massages. The only real downside was the bathrooms were unkept.

Yelp
Service was amazing. I nearly passed out suddenly and was very pale and weak. Thank you to the employees that helped. I believe Ann( at customer service) was very quick and attentive and her boss I believe Sarah after her shift ended...she was also super helpful after. I got really emotional when I needed help and embarrassed for sure but they got me a chair and allowed me to sit until I was okay. Can't believe that just happen but not sure if I was able to properly express how much I appreciated their patience. Thank you so much!!!! sorry about the scare.

Yelp
I visited this location and wasn't particularly impressed. I wanted organic 3 bean chili and they were out. I considered buying organic, spicy, black beans, but they had canola oil in them, so I passed. I bought organic blueberries, organic popcorn, organic pineapple and organic Italian wine for $11.99 a bottle. They did not have organic Daily Red wine that other stores sometimes carry for a few dollars less. I wanted to buy sliced organic pineapple too, but they didn't have it. I asked an employee to help me, but he didn't understand because English wasn't his first language. The lady working at the checkout stand made me wait while a customer in front of me chatted with her. I didn't eavesdrop. I was in a hurry and trying to get to a concert, so eventually I mentioned it because I wanted her to check me out (not literally). I've been to a lot of Whole Foods markets and this one was nothing special and not one of the best. I only went to this one because it was the closest one to The Fillmore.

Yelp
This place is AWESOME!!! I used to go to the one on Old Town Alexandria all the time. I'm so excited they opened this. The parking is free but you do have to get ticket validated. They have a bar with TV's and a coffee shop. I will update again

Yelp
Great for healthy options while in Charlotte uptown! Shakina is a leader there that also helped me with directions to a nearby hotel - the service and selection here is great!!!! Will stop in again this week!

Yelp
Do not order via Amazon. You will wait over 20 minutes for pickup. And no one at customer service knows what's going on. I ended up canceling my order.

Yelp
It's Uptown's first "full sized" grocery store and probably long overdue considering how many people are buying those $2k/month condos around Center City. Despite my review, you'll most definitely be impressed with the store itself. Clean, modern, and very sustainably built, it makes a statement that you're getting quality and responsibly sourced groceries. My visit today could have been much better, and hopefully things will improve over time. I pulled into the parking deck and first saw a list of prices for parking. You quickly find out that Whole Foods validates parking with purchase but I do not recall seeing these signs until after you get into the parking deck itself. The store might want to talk to the property manager about putting more signs up before you pull up to the ticket machine in order to prevent weary people from backing out of the lot. Just half an hour is listed as $4, but it's free for two hours as long as your cashier validates your ticket. As I walked in and taken aback by all the cool stuff inside, I naturally started taking pictures of some of the store features (to post here!). This being a new store, the floor was seemingly overrun with staff keeping things perfect. Normally I wouldn't critique this, but twice when I pulled out my phone to snap a picture, I was approached by a staff member and asked if everything was okay. After the second time of assuring them I was just impressed with all the amenities, the first associate came back and asked if I was a vendor. I told him I wasn't and he then just walked away from me while I made my breakfast at the hot bar. I noticed while I was making my plate that he was still looking at me from near the deli area. Needless to say, it was an uncomfortable experience. Breakfast was good, maybe a bit pricey for what it is, but quality stuff. Authentic maple syrup at the bar for French toast, hot eggs, bacon, grits, etc. All the things you would want for breakfast are here. They even had the salad bar open for people wanting to go ahead and make their lunch. I assume a lot of the banking employees will stop by here in the morning and grab lunch early in order to avoid the rush. I decided to try the coffee bar, which appearance-wise is beautiful. I'm not extremely picky about my coffee and I have never tried 'nitro' cold brew so I went with that. $3.50 for a 16oz coffee was again, pricy, but I figured it had to be good if it was from Whole Foods. I took my first sip once I got to the car and was disappointed. The barista apparently didn't stir in my simple syrup because the first sip was 100% sweetener, followed by unsweetened coffee the rest of the way. Like I said before, I've never had nitro coffee but my cup tasted overwhelmingly like, not kidding here, nail polish remover... no question it tasted like a synthetic or cleaning product... If I had the cup in-store I would have asked for a refund. I just don't see how this could be the 'right' way to make any coffee. So with a weird staff experience, and an expensive coffee that went into the trash after three sips, I really hope they improve. This morning's visit just left a bad taste in my mouth (literally).

Yelp
The entire corridor on Stonewall has definitely transformed in the last year or so. The addition of Whole Foods definitely makes it a destination versus what use to be here. I believe it was a night club that used to change owners every couple of months, but seeing the progress definitely is an improvement. Since I live on the light rail, it just makes it better since WF is located at the Stonewall Lynx stop so now train/walking to the grocery is possible. Technically I could do it with Publix, but there wasn't a stop right there without risking your life by crossing the tracks. The store itself is fairly large, bar, and outdoor seating available.... I did not drive here, so I'm not sure how the drive/parking situation is, but I assume they planned the parking lot accordingly unlike some other grocery stores in the area.... cough, cough.... Trader Joes and that death trap of a parking deck. I should probably preface this with the disclaimer that I'm a Prime member so there's a certain perk with shopping at WF since Amazon acquired them. So there's an added perk. I don't go here often enough, but everything is clean and in order when I do. The staff is very helpful and friendly.

Yelp
As far as Whole Foods go, this one is a cute little quaint location that packs a lot into a small space. It is paid parking in the attached garage and has a nice indoor dining area as well as outdoor patio seating. They even have a little couch and cushy chair sitting area and a bar where you can order beers on tap and coffee. They have a hot bar and sandwich bar and pizza by the slice as far as their eat-in or to-go food offerings go. I didn't really grocery shop, but they have a decent, though small, beer & wine section. I was a little disappointed they don't offer bombers and their rose section was definitely lacking. Apparently, though, one of the employees said we weren't the first to complain about them not carrying bombers of beer and that he's petitioning store management to start off with a small area of them. So, Mgmnt, if you read these reviews, please look into carrying at least a small cache of high abv bombers #kthanks. Another thing to keep in mind for this location is that it is located at the bottom of a newly constructed apt bldg and apparently they are having all kinds of construction issues that keep setting off the fire alarm. Sitting at the bar on a gorgeous, but hot, Saturday afternoon the alarm went off 3 bites into my slice of pizza and we were forced to evacuate the bldg...pizza & drink in hand (thank goodness I didn't order a beer like my date, which he had to leave in the store because we couldn't have it outside!). It took like 20mins before they started letting people back in and after talking to a regular who was standing outside w/us, this happens about once a week, if not more. My date decided to forfeit his beer (even though I told him that Whole Foods totally owed him a new one, but he didn't want to bother) so we could continue w/our day as I had finished my pizza while standing outside, uncomfortably in the heat. Needless to say, I won't be coming back to this location for a while until the alarm thing is fixed because that was NOT at all an enjoyable experience!

Yelp
I want to love this Whole Foods, but for now, I just like, I'd say it's 'OK'. The products on the shelf and in the freezers are a given in any health foods store, and Charlotte is a city in which MANY health food stores are popping up with the exact same items, without much price difference. So for me, it becomes a matter of convenience, and this Whole Foods location, while close to home , is not convenient. It's uptown ( Charlotte's downtown) and not near any other type of store, preventing me from making well-rounded shopping trip. The ticketed garage parking is minimal, and the street parking is virtually non-existent. The inside is beautiful, very nicely laid out. The bar is nice ( beer, ice cream, coffee service, etc). The bakery products are very tasty. The hot bar breakfast and lunch is okay, but I've been to other Whole Foods in Charlotte and in Winston-Salem and the hot bar food at those locations were WAY better. There are a ton of options, but I never walk away 'amazed' by the food or saying 'wow, that was really good'. I will continue to check this one out, because I have faith in Whole Foods chain.

Yelp
I like this store. It looks a little bit smaller than the Southpark location. It has more parking than Southpark with it being underground. Similar to Publix Southend. I came to see what offers were being offered to Amazon Prime members. I did see most things were clearly labeled with Blue signs for the Prime members. They even had an area where Prime members could check in and spin the wheel for prizes. If you have the Whole Foods app, you can sign in as a Prime member and also have the QR code scanned for your discounts. I am a big fan of the hot bar, especially the roasted sweet potatoes with cayenne pepper on them. Southpark usually carries them. So when I saw the hot bar, I got excited when I saw sweet potatoes! I asked a gentleman working if they were the cayenne one and he said yes. I asked if I could try one and he said yes. Sadly they were not the same. Anything I looked at in the specialty item sections, I was offered if I would like to try it. I did not, but it was nice to hear that. The cashier also asked if I was a Prime member. If you spend at least $10 before tax, the $10 would be a credit on your Amazon account for usage on Prime day. I am looking for something to buy now to see I have that $10 credit waiting.

Yelp
GORGEOUS! After working at the Lake Norman Whole Foods, shopping at the APK store & visiting other Whole Foods locations, the new uptown store has all the others beat ... easily. The layout is so nice. The bakery ... self-serve. Specialty area, not so jumbled. Cheese "wall" is nicely presented. I do believe the layout may be my favorite part. Employees are friendly & helpful - but that's been a given at every location, I think. The addition of Amazon Prime discounts has been very welcoming! Parking seems to be ok for now, but they don't have the apartment complex (above) open. Being near a light rail stop & downtown is great!

Yelp
Woah! Awesome new Whole Foods with friendly staff. They quickly volunteered to show us how to use our Amazon Prime account to shop for great deals. The space is huge and very clean and well stocked. It is going to give a nice balance to shopping in Uptown. They have a coffee and wine bar, like wow! We tried the iced coffee with syrup and it was delish. It feels like the Whole Foods in New York City where I used to shop. We got some cans of wine to enjoy for our funny bus tour and they were delish. Oh, and they have free parking for the first 2 hours (bring your ticket inside for validation after paying for your purchase). I can't wait to go back and discover more fun things and try their fresh salad bar!

Yelp
We can walk here from Dilworth, so that's a huge bonus hence the rating. If we're also just getting back from the gym, then it's pretty convenient for us to dash in and pick up grub from the hot bar. Speaking of which, there is a fair amount of paleo offerings on the hot bar but I'd change a few things if I could: 1. Need to be a little more transparent with the ingredients on the hot bar; I had an awesome beef brisket the other day that didn't have sugar or sweeteners listed yet I could taste how abundantly sweet the sauce was. Not cool for keto. 2. Wish they had carb counts for the items on the hot bar. I have to guess and see if it throws me out of ketosis the next day. 3. Another wish is for the paleo sugar free bacon to be on the breakfast bar. 4. This location doesn't have liquid aminos on the table for some reason like the other locations. Why?

Yelp
I feel like a grocery store trip has a great effect on your day no matter what part of your day you go. Another great part of your favorite store visit is the customer service you receive, few may agree that bad service can make or break that day for you. Many will attest that amazing service is memorable and sometimes unforgettable. Ms. Pat at the register did just that for me. Ms Pat matched my positive energy and sent me on my day even more motivated to make someone's else day. Appreciate you for that Ms. Pat. Get that woman a raise, and a free meal on her lunch break

Yelp
Nice looking inside. They seem to have everything you would be looking for. They validate parking too.

Yelp
I am a loyal and loving customer to Whole Foods, I love the market and I love what they stand for. I have been to Whole Foods in many cities and have been shopping at the South Park location for around two years. However, now Uptown is closer to where I live. I came in on opening day, once the crowd subsided at the door. (I love you WF but I was not waiting for the doors to open). Upon arriving, the access to the parking garage is off of Stonewall/College. The parking deck situation is tricky. There will be parking that requires a ticket, however, Whole Foods will VALIDATE parking for a certain amount of time. So do not forget your ticket!! The first time coming here, the flow of the parking garage will be awkward. It is not your normal parking garage, it just doesn't make a lot of sense. Parking spaces are also very narrow. I definitely suggest if you live uptown or S. End, you walk or take the Lynx. It will essentially be much more convenient for you. Now about the store itself. Walking in you are greeted by a harsh fluorescent light glow, not common in most WF markets, I prefer the warm lighting. The ceilings are high and you get a spacious feel at least. It is made to feel like it is significantly larger than some stores, but I found it to be, product wise, fairly comparable to other WF in the area. I also have to say the layout of the products was random and not common sense either, much like the parking situation. The basic layout makes sense, but random placing of items throughout the store will make it difficult to find certain items. It was the first day, so there were also vendors everywhere. I have hopes things will be rearranged before my next visit--in a way that products are back to living in their proper homes. There were bath products by dairy, etc... you get what I am saying... it felt off. The beer and wine selection seemed plentiful but no larger than any other stores. It backs right up into the beauty/personal section of the store. Here there is a cool touch computer to help guide you to the right products. There were staff members instructing people about products here, etc. They do seem to have one of the largest beauty sections that I have visited, which is exciting for me. There also is plenty of seating for the cafe section, but the food bar also seems comparable to other WF, nothing special to add here. It is exciting that WF now has Prime extra discounts, which as long as you have the WF app and Amazon Prime, look for the signs that offer you extra saving!! Look for the blue. Can't beat that. You just scan your WF app a the register--but this is now state wide--not just Uptown. I just used it for the first time on opening day, when it released app access in NC. Overall, I appreciate the cleanliness of the store, even as they were hammered with an insane amount of consumers coming through the doors from open to close. The staff members were friendly and doing an excellent job with keeping up the store appearance and wait times. I do not see any new excitement in this store that I could say "No other WF has this!" I am happy it is closer to home though. I will return, obviously, but as most things in Charlotte, we hype up everything. This is Whole Foods, it has a larger than life feel in its skin and bones, but inside it is your average WF.

Yelp
Beware. As an avid Whole Foods shopper this Whole Foods constantly sells shoppers bad produce. I can with confidence say I've thrown out at least 500$ worth of groceries over the past year. lamb chops that smell so horrid the next day, rotten salad, rotten tomatoes, all baked goods have a date of the same day you're in the store, the chicken almost always has an expiration date of 2 days after purchase. I used to shop at the Whole Foods by South Park but now live closer to this one, downtown and it is just horrible. I am appalled at how this is managed and run.

Yelp
I'm ok with it so far... This is a very convenient location for me. I like that they validate parking. The prices to me are a bit much, but if you're buying organic at other stores anyway, it prices out the same. Their 365 store brand is good and a better value if you're not picky about labels. What I'm really a fan of is the food bars! I have only had the breakfast bar so far, but their bacon is amazing. I like it because its on my way to work I can grab some breakfast and sit at the coffee bar and chill for a few minutes. The staff (especially at the coffee bar) are very nice and helpful. I love the bulletproof coffee (butter, collagen, coffee - what's not to love?) I also love that on the water aisle they have the water-dispensing machine for purified, alkaline and distilled (they call distilled something else, but I can't remember the name). I hate wasting those gallon jugs, so this is nice. Something cool is that Amazon Prime has an app for Whole Foods that gives you special discounts. They are usually marked with "Prime" in yellow or blue in the aisles. I'm learning to love all of Whole Foods, but this is a good start.
