Chefs Are Ditching Avocados on Menus. Is the Trend Over? | Eater

"In 2008 a college senior and a friend made an improvised brunch after trudging to a natural foods supermarket to buy organic eggs, crusty bread, and thick-cut bison bacon; they built an open-faced sandwich finished with a thin layer of mashed, salted avocado between the bread and eggs. For them and their circle—none of whom had grown up with avocado—that simple combination felt novel and memorable, an early, homegrown version of what would later be called avocado toast." - Jaya Saxena

Whole Foods Market – A Premium Grocery Experience I love shopping at Whole Foods! The store is always clean, well-organized, and full of high-quality, organic, and natural products. The produce section is especially impressive—everything is fresh and well-stocked. They also have a great selection of gluten-free, vegan, and specialty health items that are hard to find elsewhere. The hot food bar and salad station are perfect for a quick, healthy meal. Staff are usually friendly and helpful, and the checkout process is fast, especially if you use the Amazon Prime discount. Prices can be a bit higher than other stores, but you’re paying for quality. Overall, a great place for anyone who values clean eating and premium ingredients.

This is the only location that I know has a microbrew inside the Whole Foods. It also has a cafe and an upstairs dining area if you want some privacy. Everything else is what you typically experience in other locations. Parking, if there aren't enough space outside of the store, you can park in the garage for free.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I just have to shout out Robert in the deli section at Whole Foods! He is truly outstanding! From the moment I stepped up to the counter, Robert impressed me with his impeccable cleanliness: he carefully changed his gloves, cleaned the knife, and sanitized the area after making each sandwich. It’s rare to see that level of attention to hygiene these days, and it really made me feel confident about the quality of the food. On top of that, Robert was so kind, personable, and professional! Honestly, he’s the best! I left thinking I want to come back every single day just because of how great he was. Oh, and the sandwich itself? Absolutely delicious! My favorite takeout treat! Robert’s skill and care made it even better. Whole Foods is lucky to have someone like him, and I hope he gets the recognition he deserves. Thank you, Robert, for making my day and raising the standard!

Google
Super nice Whole Foods. They had the Berry Chantilly latte ingredients available so I finally got to try it! It was lovely. We got dinner from the hot bar and chilled upstairs while eating it. Free parking in the garage.

Google
This is the nicest grocery store I have ever been to by a long shot. The seafood selection is incredible and the fact that they still offer a salad bar post Covid is amazing. This is my now go-to grocery store after moving to this area plus the staff is always happy to help. I love it!

I was asked to leave from a empty dining area because I been there longer than 90 minutes and I just got through shopping. So i just left and said I will do another review changing my 3 star to one star and recommending this place as a good restroom stop . The place was empty and the Sun was going to get ready to cook the booth side of the room . I wanted to at least snack on some siete and then leave on my own free will because I work today as well. But I understand if the place is busy but it wasn't. So now I know why everybody is at central market and other whole foods vs uptown whole foods. This is my second review. I wasn't going to let the restroom thing effect my whole foods enjoyment. But yeah this bothers me with retail shops trying to enforce stuff that they really shouldn't be enforcing. Just worry about sales and theft problems .

Google
Second time finding a hair in the food at this location. The first time, it was in a danish from the bakery section. The second time (and this one is quite a shock), it was INSIDE an unopened Talenti Gelato. I am utterly disgusted and horrified to say the least, and fear what I may find next from any food purchased from Whole Foods. I knew I should’ve gone grocery shopping at H-E-B, but we all take Ls.

Google
A good sized Whole foods store with a huge selection of fresh produce to choose from.

Yelp
High end grocery store with lots of alternative versions of popular products often marketed to be healthier. I found the Whole Foods branded prepackaged products to be generally okay in flavor. The bakery, however, is solid. The brown butter cookies are intense in flavor. The chocolate chip raisin and madelines are both tasty too. There is a section with refrigerated dough on the other side of the store if you want to do the baking yourself. Store is very clean and workers are friendly. The parking garage underneath the store is very spacious, but the escalator down is not working, so you have to take an elevator. Many parking spots on the ground floor too.

Yelp
I've been going to Whole Foods for the last 30 years of my life. They stay consistent with the quality of the food. It's a bit pricey, but sometimes when you're hungry and you want good quality stuff this is where you go. And also like to mention if your Amazon prime member you get special discounts.

Yelp
This establishment was very neat and clean. The staff was kind and helped me find the items I was looking for. I gave it 4 stars because the food from the hot bar did not appear to be fresh.

Yelp
I stopped into Whole Foods while staying nearby for business. I needed a little walk so I came over. I must say they have a large salad and hot food bar which was nice. Huge selection of fresh produce and veggies. I focused my attention here. A decent variety of options here. The store was bright and clean. Wide aisles made navigation through the store easy. Checkout was quick. They have the standard checkout lines and automated scanners. I'm not a fan of those so I went through the checkout line and got great service.

Yelp
Really awkward. I got double bagged for just some bananas and oranges. I looked at the cashier and said "really?" She thought I was crazy. What kind of Whole Foods is this? I thought they are always environmentally conscious. Not sure if she understood my question. Oh well. I can definitely use those paper bags for my paper recyclables. I think I'll be back to get some more stuff. The parking was weird in the garage, tho.

Yelp
Very nice Whole Foods! I saw items I haven't seen at any of the other Whole Foods in the city, and I was amazed! The staff was friendly, the store was clean, and fully stocked, and this is the day after Beryl!!!! I'm pleased!!! Westheimer and Voss must not have had electricity because they didn't answer the phone...so grateful this location was up and running!!! Good experience!!!

Nav C.

Yelp
I always shopping here because quality of food and how fresh they are. I read about how service are not nice but I ignored it till today. Tips for shoppers do not ask the employees for help or anything because they not gonna help you (look and talk to you with attitude) meat and seafoods counter don't look for too long time they are busy and keep asking anything else? anything else? anything else? Salad bar I tried once but I don't know where to weight it before pay and I asked lady at the pizza counter surprised me she look at me like I'm an idiot and say not here. At checkout do it at self checkout counter otherwise all the things that you bought for quality will be mess up with same look and talk with attitude I shopped here for a while so now I'm sure about the other comments that said about this. Oh BTW only one time that checkout counter that talk nice to me His name is Lee. If you ask me will I come back? Yes I come back every week because it's close to where I live. Come to shop here expecting for quality of food only and don't expect nothing else. Thank you for your time to read my comment

Yelp
Asked a girl with glasses where I could find a soda and she looked/sounded so disgusted that I dared to ask her a question, like ok mama let's relax yeah ?

Yelp
With the exception of the Whole Foods market in Santa Fe, New Mexico, this is hands down absolutely the most gorgeous organic themed market in Houston. Shiny floors, clean displays and immaculate produce and fresh food displayed throughout. You want to buy everything you see. Service from staff is friendly and on point. Everyone seems to be pretty professional and happy at this location. My favorite part of this location is the nice coffee bar and the upstairs section of the store which allows you to have a beautiful view of the store. Love hanging out at this place as it's sparkly clean, great wifi connection and a great location in the Galleria area.

Yelp
Dear WFM Post Oak, I know you're not a restaurant, but PLEASE consider making it a requirement for your staff to enjoy one free WFM meal per shift.  I'm sure it would teach your more uneducated staff a bit about your mission beyond making money. And who knows? Some goody like that which you could serve up might inspire them to do a little cooking on their own, especially nowadays with quality 15-30 minute meals/recipes that don't break the bank being made available on social media for free. I swear whoever made my espresso earlier today didn't have anything but a heaping scoop of sullen before actin' like he'd been dragged behind the coffee bar to make you money. Or maybe he had a hefty portion of something too graphic to suggest unless I want this review removed (Remember "The Great Outdoors" with John Candy and Dan Aykroyd?). And to be clear, today was not a first impression experience but the last straw after coming in off-and-on for groceries for nearly two years. Anyway, you are what you eat, that's all I'm saying. And if you're open-minded enough to hire people (i.e. a number that seems to outweigh the little bit of coolness you've managed to retain) who don't seem to fit in with the foodie communities who patronize you and similar grocers, then why not help those same employees acclimate to the good life? Thanks for listening.

Yelp
this whole foods is kept in good order has a good variety and layout. there's the coffee/juice bar here.
google avatar

Kirsten D.

Yelp
This is one of the few Whole Foods left that still has a juice bar. I can't seem to find just plain carrot and apple juice. I miss this and I'm so glad this location still has the juice bar. Thank you!

Yelp
Parking has never been an issue for me at this location. Chantilly cake remains my favorite cake from here and I recently found out it comes in a smaller version for $11 - perfect for smaller dinner for 4 or less. Last time I went in, about 90% of customers and 100% of staff were masked up which I appreciated. Love his location because it has a nice patio for eating.

Yelp
Always fresh coffee if you use wrong roasted on date. coffee from the future. Newer mind they can do such things!

Yelp
This was my favorite location but why did you remove the EV chargers. Now I'll go to the small one by my house they have Volta. I will miss your view.

Yelp
Being in Houston, coming from Baton Rouge, this Whole Foods reminds me of simpler times. This was a beautifully kept store. Very clean. A trip to Whole Foods is always an event for me. And this one did not disappoint. There are so many local items I'd like to try to bring back home with me.
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
Convenient, clean and well stocked. For me WF is more of a speciality store (same way I feel about TJ) and I enjoy a few select things that I can't get anywhere else and I absolutely LOVE the bakery and the salad/hot bar. Also at this location they take Amazon returns at the entrance that's closer to San Felipe.
google avatar

Tiffany M.

Yelp
This review is only based on the bakery. I went by and ordered a cake on a Wednesday I received a call the day before the party that they cold not make the cake I ordered. I was somewhat annoyed that they called me so late to tell me they could t make it. I settled and went with vanilla and I added 6 chocolate cupcakes to my order. I pick everything up Saturday morning and they give me the cupcakes in the flimsiest of boxes they could find. The box was not even properly closed! It was literally half built. The front had a tape on it sealing the front part of the box so I didn't get to see them until I got in the car and ripped the take. The cupcakes had toppled over and the strawberries and blueberries were at the bottom. I sat in the parking lot trying to fix my cupcakes. Needless to say I am so unimpressed the least they could do was fix them. Will not be purchasing any baked good from them.

Yelp
I've always enjoyed this location because it's two blocks from work and an easy in and out to get a hot lunch. But twice now in the past two weeks I have arrived between 11:45-12:00pm and they have no food out in the hot bar, except soups. I asked an employee today at noon and was told it would be another 20 minutes to get the food out. They do realize that some people do take their lunch hours at 11:00 or 11:30? I've arrived at 11:30 before and some of the hot food trays are already almost empty, so not sure why they are running late (unless it's lack of staff). Considering you're right smack dab in a business district, the hot food bar has to be a necessity for this location. And the cold cases with sandwiches and meals to heat up was looking pretty bare as well. (Also, their main people mover to get people from the first floor to the garage has been out for a while...hopefully this is because of a part that's backordered and not their lack of getting it fixed).

Chris S.

Yelp
You need to make it clear on your hours of operation that you can only return Amazon packages until 7 PM (for whatever reason you are too lazy to have an employee there during site hours). I drove all the way over at 7:30 (well before close at 10) to find out Amazon packages are 9 AM- 7 PM. This isn't listed anywhere and it horrible customer service and inconsiderate of people's time.

Yelp
Nice grocery store to get that crunchy feeling and to scratch your organic, non-GMO, vegan itch. Produce and meats are consistently fresh and good. Don't go looking for Coca-Cola or Kraft Mac'N Cheese though. It's pricey in comparison to others but organic isn't free... I'm curious how the new Amazon ownership will impact the culture, pricing and selection.

Yelp
Gem find inside the Whole Foods Market. Tasted three beers and all were very well developed with body and flavor.

Yelp
I tried to say hello to an old neighbor and the security guard outside got in my face for it. He told me to stop bothering Rachel. fuck you dude, I'm allowed to talk to people. I've got a right to say hi to an old neighbor. What's security gonna do about it now? Another petty nitpick: the store smells a little bit funny. I drive a blue civic, NVM4869.

Yelp
Found a bug in my food this is disgusting and really scary i went back and got my money back

Yelp
This review is for their food options. I really like this location, even though I don't live in the area anymore. The first time I visited just to check it out, but on my latest visit my buddy an I stopped in for dinner. They have a small food court-like area on the far left side that has stalls with burgers, sandwiches, sushi, salads, and of course tacos. I ordered from the burger area and chose one of the specialty burgers for $10. You can build your own starting at $9, but for only $1 more you get cheese, fried egg and bacon. You can choose your patty, but I think most people including me go with the beef which is a 3 blend mix of chuck, sirloin and brisket. All the specialty burgers come with iceberg lettuce surprisingly, so I subbed arugula and added charred tomatoes at no cost. The burger was pretty good for a grocery store. I had tried a burger from the Whole Foods store in Irvine, CA which was a larger store with a larger food court and it was good there too. I wouldn't purposely come back for the burger, but if I was having a beer in the brewpub inside this store, I'd order a burger again. By the way, you can order food from the brewpub or the actual grill area where they prep the burgers. As far as seating, you can sit in the beer hall, or go upstairs and sit with people studying.

Yelp
Not a good place to shop at all! I had someone opening MY car door last night after I parked my car and the security was responding to my alert very slowly The staff at the store told me security at the store is to protect the employees but not the customers. And manager did nothing in situation! Please be very vigilant when you go to this location to shop. S
google avatar

Chantal R.

Yelp
Very easy to shop and very relaxing good set up and amazing deal with prime membership

Armando V.

Yelp
Not sure what happened to Whole Foods from a customer service standpoint. Employees used to be friendly and attentive. No one ever there to help bag groceries and literally moving at a snails pace. My wife and I bagged all 5 bags of groceries by ourselves - John didn't lift a finger to help, in the midst of having a frustrated 2 year old. Truly disappointing-

Yelp
By far the nicest Whole Foods I have been in... it has a Squeezed Juice Bar and a Brewery. There is plenty of underground parking in the Garage. Heads up, surface parking is for 20 min (in and out) and valet only. They have ready-made food items (e.g. Orange Chicken, etc.). There is plenty seating upstairs and outside on the patio. Okay, I have a secret obsession and it is the BULK section!!! I was sooooo excited to see their selections... mmmm... Nuts, grain, etc. I was in amazement, until I saw the very antiquated tagging system. What happened to the automation ... I purchased these cashews from the bulk section because Im like a kid in the candy store with bulk items... welllllll... All I have to say NEGATIVE. Whole Foods do better with the freshness of the bulk items. The cashews were stale. I dont know if Whole Foods bought it that way or if the storage containers made them that way. Either way, please know that I will not be returning for the BULK items because I feel like I wasted my money. In addition to that, a quarter of the cashews were rotten. The other (non bulk) items look great!

Yelp
I used to be The Whole Foods customer for 20+ years but after experience at this store, I will never set foot in another one. Just for the record-I shopped at this Whole Foods weekly often twice a week and spent on average $150-$200/week. I showed up around closing time as I was craving cookies. Got the bag and was loading it up. Not going to lie I did sample a cookie while loading my bag. At that very instant an armed guard showed up with a hand on a gun asked me not to sample a cookie. Are you serious???? Sampling was always encouraged. No it is not. Where is the sign? Ok then let's talk to the manager. Manager shows up with piss poor attitude and says yes sampling is encouraged but not at the cookie bar and salad station. I asked is it really necessary to unleash an armed guard on customers? I am here all the time-and you guys know me. Yes it is absolutely necessary!!! So Whole Foods became Foodtown over night and I guess I did not get that email! Well I told manager I will not shop there anymore, and manager sad oh well sorry you feel that way! I was already not happy at how transition from The Whole Foods to Amazon went, but after this experience Whole Foods will never get a dollar from me. Never ever again!!!

Yelp
This is an awesome and thoughtfully designed market.... something for everyone! Clean, classy, bright with exciting elements, isles and departments. While limited outdoor parking is available 10 steps from the entrance, the Underground parking garage is beyond cool (small ceiling mounted overhead lights at each parking stall indicate via a small red or green light if space is vacant or occupied)- WOW!...Totally progressive/forward thinking/design. Each department was fresh and exciting and every employee I spoke with was knowledgeable and happy to work there. Memorable experience....

Yelp
When my friend first told me that she studies here, I was skeptical if I would be able to get work done at a grocery store. Little did I know that this place is pretty optimal for studying. They have an upstairs area that is very clean and spacious. When I'm studying, I like to spread out all my stuff so I need big tables, and they had many big tables. It was also easy to find outlets. When I got hungry, I just went downstairs to grab some food at the hotbar and some desserts from the bakery section. They are open till 10 pm everyday.

Yelp
Love this Whole Foods location! I've been in and out a few times but hadn't taken advantage of some of its unique offerings, such as the amazing souvlaki bar. So many fresh and beautiful options! You can get a pita sandwich or a Greek salad with your choice of toppings. I couldn't believe they had falafel! I got a beautiful salad with falafel and tons of other tasty ingredients - tomatoes, cucumber, olives, generous portion of eggplant, feta cheese and dressing - for $8 which is really reasonable for Whole Foods. There is also a small mezze bar that had other Mediterranean sides/toppings you can add. Others were getting salads with different meat toppings like lamb and chicken. The lady working this area was extremely friendly and kind, making the experience even more pleasant. Of the many WF markets in Houston, this one and perhaps Montrose have the largest salad and hot food options. This one also has juices, sushi, pizza, deli, brewery... so much to see and choose from. I was a little intimidated by the parking and in the past felt too lazy to deal with the underground parking. However, it was very efficient and safe. I won't let that keep me away in the future. Also nice is they have lots of surface parking for 20 mins max so you can quickly run in and out for takeout or a few items. I hadn't noticed that before.
google avatar

Philip L.

Yelp
One of the better Whole Foods Markets. Pretty much looks new, immaculate underground parking, bright lighting, lots of seating upstairs. Quick drive from Galleria too.
google avatar

Mercedes S.

Yelp
I love the experience at shopping at Whole Foods. This Whole Foods is great. Plenty of options, everything is in stock and the employees are extremely friendly. The food is fresh and they even had nice Valentine's Day assortments ready for gifts with wine and teddy bears chocolate etc.
google avatar

Angie C.

Yelp
After complained about WholeFood sells expired items. WholeFood send me a message to log on to their site and explain more details. What else to explain? WholeFood sells expired veggie chips!! It is not acceptable. If you cannot take some initiative to make it right, the least you can do is to apologize.

Yelp
I like to come to this WF after yoga at Revolution. I like the variety of hot and cold foods they have here compared to the Voss location. Also the people watching is pretty great here! (: They do have a parking garage if you can't find surface parking in front. I discovered a new hot dish I hadn't had before and it was tofu in a mushroom gravy. I didn't know what it's taste like so I only got one piece man did I regret it when I got home. The tofu with skin had nice flavor it didn't taste bland at all and the mushroom gravy man I'd put that on anything! I bought some Sumo here and they tasted really good. I suggest coming to this location if you're in the area.

Yelp
This is a great Whole Foods. They have everything and so much more. Beautiful vegan options. Thanks!

Yelp
This review is based solely on my experience today at the sandwich counter... I placed my order through the automated ordering system. While waiting, I did my other shopping. I returned to find my order wasn't yet ready, so I got in line to pay. I returned a second time and my order still wasn't ready, even though it was posted on the screen that orders placed after mine had already been completed. I waited some more. While waiting with a few other people, I observed them give the wrong order to the wrong person. He left in a hurry and they couldn't catch him, so they had to remake the other lady's order. Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for my order. Then a few more people got their order, while I'm still waiting. Keep in mind that I put in my order ahead of all these other people. There were two employees working the sandwich counter, so there shouldn't have been all this chaos and confusion. They had all the sandwiches mixed up and didn't seem to know what they were doing. After waiting for what felt like an eternity, I finally got my sandwich. I got back to my office only to find that the bacon, for which I paid extra, was missing from my sandwich. Now I'll have to make a special trip back to the store if I expect to get a refund, which is super annoying. I don't have time for that. At least the employees were polite, otherwise, this would have been a one star review.

Yelp
Sourdough Bread Looks impressive Was Hollow, feather weight and nothing to mention of the flavor I could get a better deal at Target!

Yelp
My favorite Whole Foods in Houston. By far. Stopped in on a Sunday night (was at the montrose location about the same time on Saturday night) and the hot bar was still full of food. (Montrose had nothing!) was able to quickly get in and out and even sat upstairs to enjoy my meal before going home. It was clean, tidy, organized - plus the staff was friendly. If it was more convenient to get to this location - it would be my go to!
google avatar

Cynthia C.

Yelp
If you can't find parking right out in front, there's a garage right next to here. This is hands down the most beautiful Whole Foods I have every seem - I mean gloriously well-stocked and organized. An OCD healthy food eater's dream. I only went in looking for tortillas and kombucha and was happily overwhelmed by how many options there were. I mean there were regular tortillas and then about 10 options in the fridge if not more and all organic. And don't even get me started on the kombucha options and there's a 10% discount on a case, which you won't have an issue putting together because you'll need more than a few weeks to try out every flavor.

Yelp
I very much much enjoy grocery at Whole Foods, even though the entire offering is a bit less than HEB, Randall's or Kroger. I have only experienced a few stores, but out of all of the ones visited, this is my favorite. Parking available in front of the building or in the underground parking garage. I like the fresh food areas: fruit/vegetables (they shouldn't offer the prepared fruit packed in plastic cups, to avoid waste), fish (good consulting/service), meat and cheese. This place is usually not so busy (which is good) and there are normally no long lines at check-out. I assume that people doing grocery here take into account that they pay more than the other grocery spots.

Yelp
What's not to love ? Well besides the prices but you know what they say.. you get what you pay for I ve never been disappointed with the lunch bar salad bar and produce

Yelp
Beyond frustrated with my experience or lack thereof last night. Working late I was looking for a quick grab and go option. "Whole Foods" I thought as I pondered my choices. I arrived at 8:45pm and headed straight to the hot/cold buffet only to find most hot options were already pulled and replaced with empty pans. SHOOT, that's ok I'll just grab a burger from the counter. I looked over the menu and settled on my choice. "Excuse me" I said to the employee with his chef coat on who was wiping down the counters. "Can I order a burger?" "Nope, sorry we're closed." Now, I get it that 8:45pm is past the dinner rush but the store stays open till 10pm so why wouldn't I be able to still get a burger? Frustrated I left and ended up going to Papa's Burger and grabbing a burger to go there. I still love you Whole Foods but you disappointed me.

MJ K.

Yelp
I only shop at Whole Food occasionally. Today I went to buy components for charcuterie board. I was in a rush as usual. I left behind a bag filled with sausage and cheeses. I called immediately and thought the response would be, tuff luck lady !Boy was I wrong. I returned to the store. My $ was refunded and I rebought items. My 5 stars are more about the excellent customer service. Whole Foods wants my patronage and they backed it up with action, not empty words as I was expecting. Bravo! What a serendipitous occurrence. Thank you.

Yelp
I love this Whole Foods location. It recently opened up in early 2015, and this particular location is very convenient for the people working in the area. I like to come during lunch during the weekdays, as there are many healthy food options compared to what's around in the area. What I like a lot about this location is the underground parking garage. It has convenient sensors located above each parking spot, and when there's an open spot, the sensor is green, and when there's a used spot, the sensor is red. This is a very handy feature to find parking, as a Whole Foods is typically known to have awfully busy parking lots. Pros: -Healthy food alternatives Cons: -None

Yelp
I like this Whole Foods because I'm addition too the groceries, they had a bar (with weekly specials), a sandwich, pizza, sushi and burger station where you can get your very own customized made to order food. They also have an upstairs lounge where you can study, have a meeting, enjoy lunch or just people watch! They have a refillable water station upstairs as well. This is definitely one of my favorite locations.

Yelp
Whole Foods is known for a lot of good reasons. But today I want to talk about how fresh their products are. My favorite thing here is the banana nut muffin. Every morning for the last 4 to 5 years thr muffins have always been fresh out of the oven. The muffins are HUGE and worth the price. I also love the fresh guacamole. I recently purchased amazing scented soaps that I love. They dont lather up the way most soaps do but I definitely felt clean after use with no slipper residue. They also have an amazing breakfast buffet foods look just like you'd cook at home instead of looking "mass" cooked...if that's a thing
