Google
This store is HUGE and has such a variety of all Natural & Organic Food & Products. We traveled 2 hours to go to this store because we live in a tiny city and what a Beautiful Day it was!! We brought coolers with us and went a little overboard! 😄We were also able to sit and eat a small meal.

I enjoy getting the cookies by the pound! The variety is fun. Topped it off with the hot bar today and the cauliflower was so spicy and delicious, hit the spot on!

I recently visited Whole Foods Market and had a great experience overall. The store was clean, well-organized, and had a wide variety of fresh, organic, and specialty products that are often hard to find elsewhere. The produce section, in particular, was vibrant and well-stocked, with everything looking fresh and neatly displayed. I also appreciated the range of prepared foods and hot bar options—it’s convenient and perfect for a quick, healthy meal. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially when I needed assistance locating some items. Prices are definitely on the higher side, but you're paying for quality, sustainability, and a curated selection of goods.

We tried Whole Foods Market in Madison for the very first time, and it was a great experience! The store is amazing—great selection, super clean, and honestly, the prices were more competitive than we expected. We especially loved the bakery section (incredible), the variety of fresh food options, and the designated seating area where you can relax, grab a bite, and even get water. Parking is a little different since it’s in a downtown area—you park in a garage next to the store—but it wasn’t a hassle at all. We found a spot quickly. Highly recommend if you're looking to grab something fresh for home or just stop in for a quick snack.

Placed an online pick up order due to being in Madison. It was super simple to find this location. Not clearly marked in parking garage where to do drive up orders at so we went in to pick items up. The staff were very friendly and polite. The store was very clean and inviting. Will stop again for those items you can't find anywhere else. The Late July brand chips were delicious and the Teton 100% Grass fed sausage are something a must have on my list. Can't find those at any other store. Got some 365 brand items and have been happy with those as well.

Google
This is definitely the fanciest Whole Foods I’ve ever been to! They have an indoor garage, which is so convenient, plus clean aisles, nice bathrooms and everything looks brand new. I didn’t even know they had a new location until I came back to visit Madison but I was really impressed. I only bought a cake and of course my friends and family fell in love with it! The store is huge, doesn’t feel cramped and I think they have a great selection. My mom was also excited about the new location and said she’ll definitely be back!

Google
I love the new Wholefoods store. Such a big building, more space, the parking lot is very amazing and the bakery stations are pretty organized, I love the pastries 🥐 the brownies very tasty 😋 the coffee & tea section they have good flavors of coffee as well. I would love to visit again🫶🏽✨

Google
This is certainly the nicest grocery store in Madison. This is a brand new Whole Foods location. It has high quality produce and a lot of organic options as well as a wide variety of foods, drinks, wines and cheeses. There's a full service deli bar with any kind of steaks meat or chicken or even seafood that you'd want to get There's an olive bar and a cheese bar as well as the tea and coffee bar. The fruit is consistently fresh even when out of season which is unusual for this part of the country. The prices are on the higher end of what you'll find at Woodman's and other local stores in the area, but given the convenience and variety of selection, I think it's worth it. The store is very well lit and well designed. It has a parking lot that's connected with both underground and above ground parking levels. The underground parking is really nice in the winter when it's cold. I would say that the clientele appears fitter and healthier than the average grocery store that you'll find in Madison, which is interesting. But you won't find a lot of foods like Oreos or Doritos at this store, both of which I like by the way, lol.

Yelp
We couldn't resist the Prime Day deal: 50% off ice creams at Whole Foods! We stocked up and probably spent around $200 over two weeks! This Brooklyn-based brand, Van Leeuwen has quickly become one of our favorites. Their ice cream is rich, creamy, and made with simple, readable ingredients. Earl Grey. Gooey butter cake and caramelized banana are our favorites! Normally it's $7 to $8 per pint, which isn't bad for the quality, but getting it at half price was amazing. We loaded up our freezer and are still enjoying them on these hot summer days!

Yelp
Came here for $12 for 12 oysters Prime deal Friday and a dessert. Since I came after work around 5 pm, there was only 4 options left and then there was a wait due to only 1 person working. In this economy, $12 for a dozen is a steal. Oysters were fresh and we cooked instead of eating them raw. Wish they carry more varieties of desserts in the bakery. Check out was efficient and plenty of parking.

Yelp
I was there to pick up a Berry Chantilly cake for New Year. This is the first time I am trying this cake. I heard a lot of good things about it. And the cake was excellent. Cake was real soft, icing was of good quality and the fruit filling was delicious as well. There were a lot of Indian food in the prepared food counter. It looked good as well. Next time probably I should try some.

Yelp
The market selection was great. Went for something else and it smelt amazing. Have gotten to try to a few cheeses I never would've gotten because of the small cheese area. Would recommend. They have underground parking so you don't have to walk in the cold. Large selection.

Yelp
TERRIBLE, wanted to buy 2 streaks and after waiting for more than 10 minutes while the female clerk helped everyone but me on her end and the male clerk was busy removing silver skin cutting and trimming and tying up a piece of meat he never turned around once to see if he could help any customers! RIDICULOUS

Yelp
I shopped here on Tuesday 6/13/2023. I usually shop at the Whole Foods closer to home, but was in the area, and decided to grab a few items. I was very impressed with the Madison location. The store was very clean, organized, and well-stocked. They had some great deals on items that were on sale, and it was cool to see some of their local products and other items that are not available at the Whole Foods in Illinois where I live. A shout-out to Kaleb for being an excellent cashier, and to Dalinee at Customer Service. I'll definitely stop by again the next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
Visited at 11:30 on Sunday January 5. Went to self check out with exactly 15 items and was rudely told by an older female worker standing in the area that self check out is for people with 15 items or less and I was allowed to use the self check out this time but in the future I'd need to go to the actual check out line. I had only filled the top tray of my cart with clearly only a few large boxes and, again, had exactly 15 items. After talking to me like I was a child, the woman went to stand as far from me as possible. Overall really ruined my experience. Such a weird thing to do and totally unnecessary!

Yelp
Way too expensive, limited selection, moldy produce, out of stock items, disappointing and no value.

Yelp
The new Whole Foods Market is an enormous change from the old store which was just down the street. Enormous in size for sure and enormous in the selection of items too. It's truly a destination shopping experience. One pro tip is to be sure to use your Amazon Prime membership to get additional discounts. You can even pay using the Amazon app or scan your handprint. My only negative is the building itself, which is pretty stark. It mimics the nearby Target store with the integrated covered parking, which is great for the adverse weather. It just gives the experience more of a commercial office building feel. I guess it's a compromise to get used to.

Yelp
I judge restaurants and stores by how clean their bathrooms are. The cleanliness of bathrooms represents the cleanliness of the entire enterprise. I had to drop off some returns and I used the women's room. It was disgusting to say the least. All the toilets were filthy especially under the seats as if they hadn't been cleaned for weeks. When this store first opened everything was very tidy but it is going down hill quickly. The store that replaced their old space on University is fantastic. The owners are local and seem to really care about their customers. Check it out.

Yelp
I shopped here on 3/13/24, I am in a wheelchair. I found the store not up to accessibility standards of 2024. There is only one entrance and exit for this store which is located only in the covered parking area. The front doors that are easiest and most accessible are locked. WHY? The store is in a neighborhood that is meant for ease of getting to and from without a vehicle, that's the whole point of building businesses in a residential neighborhood. They say they want your business but haven't done anything to actually show they want your business other than blocking doors. Didn't anyone think about the fact that locking doors decreases business? Its not a smart business decision at all. I talked to the manager who was not understanding about my accessibility concerns at all. He said he would "Pass my concerns" on the owners but was not apologetic in any way. He didn't offer any solutions to the problem. All they have to do is unlock a door but were unwilling to accommodate that. The manager and owners seem to be really ableist (discrimination against people with disabilities). They will not be getting my business again until they learn about accessibility and show us they want our business. Studies show businesses lose billions of dollars by not being very accessible. https://www.forbes.com/sites/gusalexiou/2022/06/30/retailers-lose-billions-by-not-signposting-product-accessibility--new-report/?sh=21cb33044b07

Yelp
Visited the new Whole Foods store today. It's a very nice store. Attached to a parking garage made for easy parking. We bought just enough food to use our $15.00 off coupon. The prices haven't come down any. If you like to spend your money at this store that's fine it's your money but if you shop carefully at any other chain grocery store in town you can buy excellent products at a more reasonable price. Just sayin' One thing we noticed is how rude the other shoppers were (not the staff, I'm talking about the customers.) We haven't experienced this at Hy-Vee, Metro Market or Festival. What gives?

Yelp
This whole foods has no sandwich station FYI!! At least, if they do, I've never been able to find it. Unfortunately that's my favorite thing at any whole foods so I stopped coming here since they also have a smaller prepared meals selection in the fridge than others. Their hot bar is good, no better than any other whole foods' hot bar but the prices are quite high compared to others in the area (Willy St Co-op comes to mind) and of course their groceries in general are as always pretty pricy. The workers are friendly and it's still my fav place to make amazon returns lol

Yelp
Fun shopping experience and friendly staff, but....poor stocking has been an issue in recent months. Lot of key items are completely empty...these tend to be the same items trip after trip too. eg organic bulk onions, bulk self-grind peanut butter (honey and plain), organic bulk lentils, organic cheese, etc... The hotbar has been downscaled...several of the vats are now completely empty with nothing in them. They no longer sell dal soup which was a great recipe. Much of the bakery is now much more limited...eg they used to sell a great zucchini muffin...no more. They used to have sweet bar with cookies, samples, and bars...that got turned into a bland coffee station. The store used to be great with free samples, but whenever I go there now, It's not that I don't see many...I don't see any. I thought I remember a bread slicer which is really handy for keeping bread both fresh and convenient...but there isn't one in the store (unlike other Whole Foods). It's still a nice store, but it's said to see how both inventory and selection have regressed in recent times.

Yelp
Lovely space but poor quality control. I recently unwrapped a pork roast at home to find it had gone bad (color and smell) and next found a rotten orange in a bag of oranges. Customer store staff were indifferent, telling me to return the items with a receipt for a refund. The store manager never responded to my email. I will be buying my meat, fish, and produce elsewhere, for a lot less money.

Yelp
Years ago, I used to love shopping at the Whole Foods Market in Madison. Not any more. The store has really gone down hill, especially since Amazon bought them out. One of my biggest gripes is that WF used to carry Sovereign Silver, a potent immunity booster supplement. But the geniuses that manage the place decided to discontinue this item--at the height of an alleged pandemic! Why on Earth would you discontinue a product that supports strong immunity during an alleged virus outbreak? Makes absolutely no sense, unless, of course, WF management doesn't really want you to maintain your health. Along these lines, my second gripe is the hot food and other food that the WF Market sells always contains canola oil, one of the worst seed oils you can put into your body. Again, it's like they don't want you to be healthy. And my last concern is not a "conspiracy theory", even though it may be portrayed as such in the mockingbird media. "Whole Foods has been rolling out a new system wherein customers scan a QR code upon entry. While shopping, they scan items on their device, thus removing the necessity of going through a checkout to pay. This technology is well behind that of Amazon One, Whole Foods' parent company's system that uses biometrics (palm scanning) to accomplish the same without the necessity of opening an app on one's phone to pull up the QR code. Thus Whole Foods is implementing a precursor to a social credit system and potentially even the Great Reset, the darling plan of Klaus Schwab and the Globalists. China has been developing a social credit system for years in an attempt to control the masses and punish individuals when they don't "toe the Party line..." I am so done shopping at Whole Foods...

Yelp
Absurd prices for average quality. You would be better off going to almost any grocery store.

Bernard W.

Yelp
Produce quality is very high, though I wish they'd source many items from closer regions (WFM almost never has domestic kiwis, for example, and mangoes are often from South America when Mexican ones are at other grocers). Avocados are the best in town. Meat and seafood department is top notch. Cheese department has very good selection, though no great deals are to be found. Some cheese that is processed in store (cut and rewrapped) has a pretty short shelf life after purchase. WFM brand fresh mozzarella is inedible, but other store branded items I've tried are decent. Staff is dependably pleasant and competent. The only grocery store where a customer can count on groceries being packed well every time (most grocery stores put zero effort into bagging, though it is a big deal).

Yelp
Since Amazon took over, it seems the prices are lower across the board. Scan your Amazon Prime i.d. (Whole Foods app) and save even more! Amazon convinced me to try out Whole Foods today due to a special limited-time offer: spend $10 at W.F. and get $10 to spend on Amazon Prime Day. I was impressed with ALL departments, but then I saw it.....A FRENCH MACARON BAR!!!!!! You heard me!! It's incredible. All other food items cannot compare. No. Macarons are the best. And so many delicious flavors to choose from. YUM. Of the various flavors I tried (after paying first) I have to say, the Lemon gets 5 s. Chocolate macarons were also worth the cost of admission....mmmmmm. Face it, you just cannot go wrong with French macarons. Period. You're welcome.

Yelp
I come here for the grind-your-own peanut butters! The hot bar used to be poppin. What happened? Now the trays just contain basic sides or weird asparagus in tomato sauce. Soups are still fire though. The bakery is where it's at. I love the little cream and fruit tarts and chocolate croissants.

Yelp
Be leery of putting a catering order in with Whole Foods. We were told 3 days before that they couldn't provide the main entree due to not getting in exactly what they needed for it. No phone call just an email. Didn't see my email from them. HyVee came to our rescue on our short notice... kudos to HyVee

Yelp
Well this is an interesting store. I don't come here a lot. It is a little expensive for my taste. I did leave with a couple things though like paper straw, a coconut bar, and Toms toothpaste. They had a larger variety than Trader Joe's but the prices are a little higher. The quality is higher than a regular grocery store but not everything is organic. Make sure to read the labels. You can order almost anything in store from Amazon.com and it will be shipped to your house. A great option to use in winter.

Yelp
Sad to be giving this location a bad review. But the service has really gone down hill. It's lackluster at best. The bakery person working seemed to belittle me when I asked about cakes that might travel well. Your buy a $30 plus dollar cake and it comes with attitude. Should have gone elsewhere. Check out is a hassle. The prime app doesn't work well even though they ask you for it. The lines Barry move despite there being few people in them. So completely disappointing - I really used to love this Whole Foods and really hope it improves.

Yelp
I went to the fresh fish counter today. When I touched the glass with fingertips to look over at the salmon, the male server curtly and loudly told me "please do not lean on the glass sir!" I said nothing and decided to walk away. When I was 10 steps away, the surprised server again asserted even more loudly "Im sorry I asked you to not lean on the glass sir!" Rudely and loud enough for everyone to hear. I decided to leave the store without purchasing anything. Basic customer communications training would help this young bad-attitude employee.

Yelp
I love Whole Foods . I have a feeling robots will soon run the stores . The employees are all masked up while the Emmys awards ran this week with no one masked . Yes we need good little worker bees serfs until the robots do their mindless jobs . I can't have conversations with these zombies.

Yelp
What happened to the best pizza in town? If there is a pizza maker: very little toppings, little sauce, also. Holding old pieces FOREVER. Dried out and nasty. Cmon. You are Whole Foods

Kate D.

Yelp
New to MadTown, disappointment is critical at this store. It's not Whole Foods quality and service levels. The "premade" meals are awful; I will stop there. I should have read reviews before placing my order through Amazon, Amazon start reading reviews????

Yelp
This is my favorite grocery store in town, which is a bold statement considering Willy Street Co-op is another shop I frequent just as much. But I say Whole Foods wins. I appreciate their bakery for two reasons: 1) the seeduction rolls/bread 2) the oatmeal raisin cookies The SEEDUCTION ROLL is a must buy in each of my visits to Whole Foods. They are perfectly portioned to be warmed and enjoyed with a smear of avocado or nut butter. The heartiness of the whole grains, the crunch from the pepitas and poppy seeds throughout, this bread is the carbs of my dreams. The OATMEAL RAISIN COOKIE is a recent discovery and a random choice among the other items in the bakery cases. I don't like raisins, but I very much liked this cookie and want it now. The texture was chewy but so dense and moist and subtly sweet and even more sweet with the addition of some raisins. Another plus at Whole Foods is their produce selection and prices. While some items will be pricey indeed, not all of them are. Shop with a knowledge of what's a reasonable amount to pay for certain fruits and veggies and only buy the ones that are marked at the right price. Quality, organic produce comes at a steeper rate, but I find it worth it and there are plenty of fruit and veg options at Whole Foods that I find comparable in price to other shops. Along with the produce section, there is a machine to freshly grind peanut and almond butters (my favorite thing and my weakness). This always earns the grocery store an extra 10 points in my book. It's so lovely when you dig into a fresh container of NUT BUTTER and it's still warm and you can smell the nuttiness oh my. Dairy prices are decent and I appreciate the grand assortment of dairy-free milk choices because almond and coconut milks are fun :) The dry goods at Whole Foods are also priced right. For those who enjoy canned BEANS for their protein source like me, WF actually has the best prices in town. Organic chickpeas, black beans, red kidney beans...I stock up on these here. One thing that's not so great is the meat and fish prices. They're steep. The hot bar, while it adds up $$$ very quickly when weighed, is pretty great taste wise and for the convenience factor. Dinner is set. The food is delicious and each tray of food is listed with all the ingredients it contains. Besides the price, it's rockin. Oh and if you're ever looking to make your own Acai Bowl, they have packs of ACAI in the freezer section. Pretty expensive and probably not a necessary item, but it's fun to try. I did :) Whole Foods basically is there as a reliable place for staple groceries as well as all the random items you've been searching around for at other stores but can't seem to find. I bet you that they'll have it.

Yelp
I usually have a good experience until I get to the cashier. They act like if you cannot access your Amazon Prime number that it's a crime. The cashier was finally like, "I'll just give it to you," and then gave an eye roll. It's always stressful checking out there, like I'm not good enough to be there. They are extremely rude!

Yelp
A very clean market with fresh and convincingly fresh produce at the ready for health conscious consumers. I dream of a world with a Whole Foods market in every neighborhood and such a market gives me the insight and visual. The staff was friendly and directly involved, wonderful vibes one would love while shopping
google avatar

Scott N.

Yelp
Yeah, this is an expensive place to shop in general, but it's because of the nature of what they sell, not because they charge a lot. If you find the exact same slightly unusual packaged product at a "regular" store it will cost 25% less at Whole Foods. Local artisan cheeses cost less at Whole foods. Soeaking of local cheese, this has one of the best cheese counters around. They are less likely to be out of in-demand cheeses like the seasonal Rush Creek Reserve, and it will be cheaper there. I would not go there for normal shopping, it's really for less common stuff like fresh figs or dried seaweed. Produce quality is exceptional. The bakery, surprisingly can be really hit or miss. The baguettes can be like Wonder bread inside.

Yelp
I like it! If you haven't been to this particular location in the last few years, they have done renovations to improve store flow and number of items stocked. Butcher case is OK, I'm surprised that relatively few meats are "hippie meats" (ie--grass fed, no cage, highest standards of animal welfare). I guess you still have to buy frozen at the farmer's market in Madison for that. You won't find any particularly unusual cuts here (no chicken feet, backs, or salt pork) Cheese section: Good, Wisconsin cheeses are mixed in with international cheeses for those who demand to know source of origin. Fruits and veg: Always lookin good, as is true of most Whole Foods. Keep your eyes peeled for the excellent guacamole. Supplements & Beauty: Have no idea what's in this aisle, has a crapton of stuff. Most of it seems to have Vitamin C, D, or Homeopathy. Frozen food: Relatively few frozen foods available. Unsure if this is because there aren't as many organic frozen foods as conventional frozen foods. Prepared foods: Hot bar, salad bar, $7.99/lb. A little known fact: at breakfast they have oatmeal, scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, bacon, and breakfast tacos. The oatmeal is really good because you can add blueberries, almonds, and dried fruits. The hot food bar closes about an hour before closing. Deli: Sliced cheeses and meats open until close, rare in many grocery stores! The house deli meat is very good. Cannot speak for the other prepared foods behind the deli case. Bakery: DELICIOUS, pricy side, the sweet baked goods are excellent, as for the savory baked goods, the baguette is not THE best in town (Batch!) but tasty, and the Seedlicious bread is awesome. Did you know that you can get a refund for any reason with the food packaging and a receipt within 30 days? Awesome in case you get something that just doesn't work out. If you've been to a GIGANTIC whole foods store with 20 different soups and a gelato bar, you may be disappointed. For Dane County area, it's good, and my go-to when I want something to eat quickly without stopping in a restaurant, as well as their yummy fresh guacamole.

Yelp
Two words: free samples! Hallelujah! This is the one thing that I wish the co-op offered more of. It makes the whole "shopping while hungry" thing non-existent. Maybe that's why they don't do it, but WF is great about letting me snack while I shop! I agree with other reviewers that this place is way, way, way too small and the parking lot makes me want to get violent. However, I love the fresh produce and the wide array of products. They have Banana Babies here, which makes me one happy lady! I think the staff could be a tad friendlier. I feel like I am a pleasant person to have a conversation with, or at least acknowledge, but there have been multiple times when I have been in line and the cashier will have not said one word to me (even when I say hi). But I guess I am going there for food, not lively conversation, so I only subtracted one star for that.

Yelp
I have been a Whole Foods shopper for years, however the Madison Whole Foods is making search for new options. :( First - it is much too small. Why hasn't WF corporate gotten their act together and bought/built a bigger store in the Madison area?? Madison is full of people who want to eat well - and this tiny store, which has been here forever, is just not cutting it. Trying to maneuver around the produce section is kind of like playing Pac-Man - you have to keep changing directions until you finally find a way out, because there isn't room for more than a single cart in any of the sections. Trying to get around with a couple of kids + your cart?? Insanity. Second - because it is tiny, they just don't have any many great options that other Whole Food locations have. I was spoiled by living in IL within a 20 minute drive of 3 different WF stores, all of which were bigger with better selections of both packaged and fresh products. I know I have high standards, but I think the people of Madison deserve a little more!! Finally, the last time I went, I was sorely disappointed in the number of organic produce options, in fact, I think I found a bag of organic apples. That was IT. No organic strawberries, blueberries, or bananas, which should really be a given. While I appreciate the high standards the Whole Foods uses to select its produce providers, I would still rather go to Metcalf's or the Co-op and get the organic variety. The saving grace of this Whole Foods is its super friendly and helpful employees. Because I am new to the area, I still inevitably get stuck finding at least one thing every time I go. Each time a personable employee has helped me locate exactly what I was looking for. The check out people and baggers are always incredibly friendly. I even had the nicest woman EVER help me get my bags into my car one of those crazy -20 days in the middle of winter, in spite of me assuring her I was okay. The service there is truly wonderful. Sadly, however, I think my time as an exclusive WF shopper are over unless the powers that be decide to find a bigger, better location for the Madison area.

Yelp
As some reviews pointed out, they are classy and more expensive than your regular grocery stores, but every penny is worth it. A lot of the items they carry are organic produce, and their effort to cooperate with local farmers is unparallelled. They run great specials weekly so keep an eye out for their brochures in store or online, those can help you procure some good stuff at discounted prices. My favorite section is the bakery. Simply love their bread -- baked fresh everyday. I like their huge variety of selection and how they keep the classic breads such as the italian white bread and whole wheat bread daily, and also having a selection of artisan breads that vary from day to day. For those of you not into surprises, don't worry, they have a 'menu' where they clearly state which breads they are baking on which day. Their cakes, macarons and fruit tarts also have me hooked. It is the only place I get my whole cakes from. I like the moist texture of their cakes, and the level of sweetness -- not too sweet, not too bland either. Most of the cakes have fresh fruits and/or fresh cream on them. All these factors make their cakes uniquely right for me. If you are unsure, you can always give their sliced cakes a try first before getting them whole. To be honest this is not the only place where I get my groceries. But once in a while when I am craving that premium ribeye, alaskan king crabs or other delicacies, I tend to splurge that much more =)

Yelp
I'm only going to be reviewing their hot bar, as this is a grocery store! I come here often to get some delicious and nutritious to-go meals or to eat them at their cafe area. I do honestly believe they have one of the best hot bars for a grocery store. As long as you don't overload your plate with mounds of food, it's definitely affordable. And they always have a sufficient amount of dishes to choose from, never leaving you with boring options. Their cafe/seating area is also a GREAT place to study, surprisingly... I came here to study for my life insurance license, and the amount of noise was just the perfect level - enough so that it keeps your ears busy, but not too loud so that you can't concentrate. The only times you have to be aware of is when large groups of people come in to eat or if there is a mom with her child. But other than that, perfect noise control!

Yelp
I love whole foods. And hello, you should totally check in here. I've gotten a LARGE tote bag and a regular tote bag (because the regular one ran out, they were nice enough to give me a LARGE one). HURRAY. Free samples. lalalalala~~ so many cheeses, chips, and crackers, I can fill my tummy here. HAHAHA. not really. And the all rounded deli, ready food. I LOVE the fruit tarts. WOOOHOOOO. 2 for $3.50, the small ones. And the big ones, are so good as birthday cake subtitutes! so good!! I also like the sandwiches! mmmm tasty. haven't tried the rest yet. And they have special events where they showcase some food. Last time in May they had a slow roasted pork and gave free samples to everyone, with coleslaw? They also have the hippy brands which even Willy co-op doesn't have. Like back to nature crackers (YAY) and HUGE bottles of naked or odwalla juices. I LIKE that. A nice, civilized groceries store for people who don't mind to pay a little more

Yelp
One of the big draws of Whole Foods literally anywhere else in the country, is that it is a great place for a visitor to pick up a hot meal. On four successive visits here, each time earlier than the last time, the hot food and salad bar and were cleaned out and done for the day - at 5:45pm today. Guess they don't think anyone might want to pick up dinner after 5? Even otherwise, this place does not really have the wondrous ambiance of a Whole Foods elsewhere, with their bustling delis, actively helpful staff, large wine selections, etc. Whole Foods, please do better for the good people of Madison.

Yelp
Some common truths: 1) The parking lot will be full of either hybrids or Subarus. Most will sport a bumpersticker of Hope/Unite/Coexist yet the customers driving these cars really don't embrace these philosophies (as they are some of the most snootiest (is that a word?) in town) 2) Most of the customer's are wearing some sort of patagonia jacket/keen footwear and they all believe in layering. 3) You will leave the store wondering, "How can this little amount of stuff be sooo expensive?" With that said, I believe Whole Foods has one of the best fish counters in town. The mongers are well informed and happy to help. As well, there deli case and prepared foods won't leave you disappointed. I especially love their Israeli couscous with cranberries...seriously addicting. Cheese selections are pretty on point with a good selection of international cheeses. As long as you come into the store knowing what you want to get (vs. general grocery shopping), you will fare well. Just remember to leave that Bush/Quayle '88 shirt at home if you don't want to face the stare of death of everyone and their mother while shopping.....

Yelp
So small!! Was my first thought, as it is just a one level little whole foods, but inside there is plenty. Now Whole Foods is one of my favorite stores. You know you are buying quality products from good sources. I go there for the vegan options. There was not as great a selection as Id hoped but I still got plenty of snacks. I got a meal from the warm food section too. I was happy to see cakes from chicago diner! The chilled meal section only had a vegan tamali.... I really was looking for the chickn wraps. Oh well. Overall it was good. Friday night was super busy.

Yelp
Realizing as I do the problems with this particular WFM location, I am still a fan. For those of us on the lower economic scale, it is pleasure just to walk around in WF and experiencing the pleasure of seeing beautiful produce, bakery and prepared foods. That aside, how does anyone find a parking space on a weekend or after 5:30 pm? If you can walk, bus or bike, and are not planning to walk out with 2 or more bags, you will save yourself much grief. Besides, it gets awfully tight in the store itself on the weekends. A big bonus is the quick grab meal area right next to the Hot Bar. Prepared salads, sandwiches, cheese/meat/cracker kits plus the raw ingredients for a meal are in a open refrigerated shelf unit for your perusal. If I didn't have the time or the inclination to look over the hot bar, I would definitely hit this. If I wanted to eat in, there are many opportunities here with the tremendous deli offerings, bakery and the hot/cold bar. Next time I stop in in the morning, I will definitely try the breakfast.

Yelp
Awful service tonight at the bread counter. Were out of bread at 6pm on a Friday night and the lady working the counter was inconsiderate and rude. I don't spend an obscene amount of money on food that I can get elsewhere with much better service.

Yelp
The overpriced produced tastes terrible and what happened to the amazing tortilla chips? - they are quite inedible now. Nothing worth purchasing there any longer. Used to be a treat to buy the Roman Tuna Salad ... poof ... all gone. No thanks!

Yelp
+ WIFI!!! + a few items were surprisingly well priced- coffee for $5.99, PB for $2.69, luna bars for $.99.... + conveniently located near my rental apt + wasn't stuck waiting too long on checkout line + not too crowded in aisles + cranberry walnut rolls... always so good - weak salad bar options - crazy priced sweet potatoes ($2.49/lb!)... steep prices for produce in general (no apples or peaches/nectarines for less than $2.99/lb), as well as milk and cream

Yelp
This was one of the smaller WFM that I have been to. However, I believe that view point is heavily influenced by living in the Bay Area. Everything about this location is paired back. The hot and cold food section. The selection of specialty soda and chocolate. However, the key items are the same. What did I learn today? From the lady in front of me, a single back of groceries $107 and change. Ouch!!

Yelp
I shop at Whole Foods quite frequently and recently moved to Madison. This is a bit of a sad excuse for a WF store...as others have said it is extremely small and cramped. The day I visited the produce section was severely lacking and what was in stock was not appealing in the least bit. The hot bar looked decent but again was lacking. There is no sushi counter or really any other "food stands" aside from a pizza area. There is a couple packages of premade sushi but I didn't see anyone making it to order a custom roll or bowl. An unfortunate situation for this city, but at least there is Trader Joes and Metcalf to fill the gap, needless to say I did not purchase anything here. My basic knowledge of economics would suggest if everyone drifts away from this store they will be forced to re-concept

Yelp
First, I should preface this by saying that I have shopped here for at least 1-2x a week for the better part of two years the staff are some of the friendliest around; I have had no incidents until today. I was standing in line because I had to run back to the store to pick up 2 items. I was behind a lady that the cashier was ringing up when her husband showed up behind me with a cart filled to the brim asking to move aside so that he and his wife could check out together. No please, No excuse me, just an ill-mannered, entitled pair. I said no. I was waiting my turn patiently when the man muttered something about this being "awkward," the cashier then motioned me to another register saying "she's opening up she will ring you up." I could not see over to the other side, so I moved there. Could I check out in peace? No, there were 2 other people ahead of me! I have no business with this couple, I don't even care about them. I am however completely disappointed in the service I received this evening by CASHIER #4- you are in the wrong for: A. Giving me misleading information, and B. Treating ill-mannered people as if their time was more important than mine. I did eventually get checked-out by a 3rd cashier and I left the store seething. I need the management to know that lines are not arbitrary suggestions, they exist for a reason i.e. first come first serve, and while I will gladly allow someone ahead of me, I won't have it forced upon me, not especially when I have 2 frigging items - again CASHIER #4 I am looking at you. I am mostly furious that I let myself get pushed around by a pair of d-bags, and I yielded to the poor judgment of you guessed it - CASHIER #4. As an aside: 2 college-age women who really ought to know better, were sampling food from the hot bar with their fingers, licking it and sampling again. What is this mess? No one seemed to notice or care.

Yelp
If you're a Whole Foods cashier and chatting with the next lane's bagger about you leaving for the day, and you say, "I'm gonna be outta here, mother f*cker," perhaps you shouldn't say that in front of your customer. And perhaps you should actually say "thank you" when you hand the customer her receipt instead of continuing your chat with your coworker. Just a thought. And if you're the Whole Foods bagger who just finished bagging the customer's items, maybe you should acknowledge the customer as she leaves ... instead of the customer saying "thank you" to see if you'll respond. Just a thought. I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but when I go to Whole Foods, I feel like my presence is a burden and an annoyance to the staff. They seem to not want to deal with customers. I understand Whole Foods is a niche store. And even though I'm shopping there and I'm a 20-something female, I still expect the same level of customer service and professionalism as a super-conservative little old grandma would expect. The employees at Woodman's are super friendly to me and always professional. I shop in the organic/natural aisles at my local Woodman's every week. I will continue to do that and make my Whole Foods visits not so frequent.

Yelp
I have only been to this particular whole foods twice, and it is likely that I will not return! I like whole foods in general, however this particular store has employees who seem to think they are inconvenienced by doing their job. The first time I went, a lady left her disgusting coffee cup on the check out counter(where I would need to place my items). This second time, while checking out the cashier asked for "a little help unloading the basket" which is only appalling because there was no one in line in front of or behind me. I actually normally unload the basket (which btw had all of 5 items in it), but I figured I'd save us both time by allowing her to do her job without waiting for me to go through the unnecessary steps. She proceeded to slam my receipt down on the counter rather than put it in the bag or simply hand it to me. Disappointing. I will not be back.
