Yelp
So I have now been here three times now since it opened and as a frequent shopper at regular Whole Foods err... Paycheck... err Amazon, prices are comparatively lower on certain items. There are also some caveats:
First, here's where you'll save the Big Bucks:
Produce: Prices, overall are lower, than at WF proper. For instance, organic Cauliflower is $3.50 per head, and if you want to go the 'conventional' route, it's $2.75. Little things that tend to add up, like Scallions, Parsley, and Cilantro also cost notably less.
Meat & Fish: During the first couple opening weeks, there were some great deals, but now that they've reeled me in, I'm a bit less impressed. But there still seem to items here and there that are decently priced. For instance, I picked up some pre-marinated 365-brand Garlic & Herb Chicken Breasts for 20% of their usual $6.99 per lb. price. With the addition of a little S & P, aka salt 'n pepper, they broiled up nicely.
Throughout the Store: Though not nearly as dramatic as these two departments, there seem to be random items that are priced less, as in .50 cents here and $1 there.
Rewards Program: If you sign up, you'll save 10% on select items.
Now, the Caveats:
There are no specialized departments offering personal service. This includes Meat, Fish, Deli, Cheese, and Baked Goods. With the exception of the Baked Goods Department, which includes a display of artisanal, locally sourced Breads and other carby treats, like Soft Pretzels and Sticky Buns from Roberta's, that you can bag yourself, these items are pre-packaged and as you would imagine, selection is more limited.
While there is a Bulk section, it's not as comprehensive as what you'll find at WF proper.
Store is small, so avoid peak times unless you enjoy having no room to move.
Unlike with nearby big sister WF in Gowanus, there is no parking lot.
After one of my shopping trips here, a bunch of Grape Tomatoes in a container I'd bought were coated in a weird, moldy fuzz and some Brussels Sprouts were VERY discolored and ancient looking. Inspect your produce picks carefully.
Overall Vibe:
Lots of inspiration from Trader Joe's in terms of the layout and product displays, especially in the Frozen Foods section, plus the *mostly* perky, eager to help staff reminds me of T.J's big time. Punny sayings, posted accordingly throughout the store, seem to be targeting Millennials but what do I know? Just Kale Me, maybe? I'd be Berry happy if you did.
Bottom Line: For me, coming here involves dragging my butt out of the house, or should I say, claustrophobic BK apartment, early on a weekend morning to avoid the afternoon crowds. But it's worth it to save some $$$ when I can swing it.
ps: Text 'Join' to 365-65 if you want to sign up for the aforementioned Rewards Program before shopping here.
