Yelp
The three stars is for the empty shelves in the fruits and vegetables area. When comparing this Whole Foods store with the following surrounding grocery stores:
North of Whole Foods are Sprouts, Trader Joes,, and Target
South of Whole Foods are Safeway + Smart & Final
East of Whole Foods are Grocery Outlet + Cardenas
And further West are Zanottos and La Plaza
Out of these ten stores in the area, Whole Foods is often the store which is most likely to have empty vegetable and fruit shelves after 8pm. The picture shows how bare the shelves were again. Sometimes shopping at one of the altetnative grocery stores above becomes necessary after leaving this Whole Foods location, in order to get the right fruits and vegetables.
These empty produce shelves at this Whole Foods location seems to have gradually increased in frequency over the last few years, as more and more residential buildings have been constructed in the surrounding neighborhood, and as more people have moved in. The total amount of shelf space allotted towards fruits and vegetables might now be too small for the neighborhood.
There is also space near the bananas where they chill individual beer cans. But the beer cans don't seem to sell out as much as their veggies. There's also shelf space near the peaches, where they put nuts and dried fruit, but the nuts and dried fruit don't seem to sell out as much as the peaches and berries. I think the nuts and beer might be duplicated in other aisles at this store.
There also might be some allocation issues, as the bok choy cabbage, the parsnips, and the regular green cabbage do not sell out as often as the broccoli and strawberries, but there's still ample space allotted for them last night. I'm guessing that the bok choy cabbage being sold there has the heavy white stalks which are not as popular now, as maybe the amaranth greens are in the Indian grocery stores, the water spinach is in the Vietnamese grocery stores, or maybe the different pepper varieties are in the Mexican grocery stores.
