Yelp
Perfect place to discover your inner chef or if you just want something delish that is already prepared! Let's tour the store!
As you walk in, you are met with beautiful arrays of colorful fruits and veggies! They pride themselves on local and organic goods and do make an effort to get their produce from within 100 miles. Yes! Support for our local farmers! Another feature I love is that there all sorts of already perfectly cut produce, even a giant cup of pomegranate seeds/juice, which I highly recommend you use to make a lovely reduction for your lamb chops.
Next, who can imagine getting giddy over bulk foods??? Now that I've been there, I promise you will get that flutter in your chest as you cruise by the rices and beans from EVERYWHERE! I picked up pink rice, black rice--I am ready to have an international rice feast! And, I have never seen so many kinds of beans in my life! Who knew there could be so many different beans? I now have all sorts of soup ideas for the winter and darn it, I am going to try every bean!
Moving along, you will find the sexiest seafood department of any grocery store you have ever seen. They are happy to shuck or steam your oysters...and they do have a selection of oysters for all you oyster lovers. Probably one of my favorite features of Whole Foods is that you can walk up and choose your whole fish as it lays teasingly on a bed of ice, and they will be happy to filet it for you and pack it up on ice for the trip home. Once you've picked out your fish, I highy recommend you turn around and find the assortment of panko and encrust a fabulous meal for yourself. Feeling more like shrimp--yeah, they'll steam those too. Are you single and you just want a yummy piece of seafood--they have plenty of nicely seasoned fish options or lumptolicious crabcakes that are all ready for you to take home and throw in the oven or skillet.
Next, we reach MEAT, MEAT, MEAT! Take a few minutes to absorb all this meat case has to offer. I couldn't be happier to find pork belly stuffed with apple and sage, ready at my finger tips! Lamp chops, at least 10 kinds of fresh sausage, freakin' 8!!! kinds of thick bacon--even one with a habanero green chili rub--now that got me excited!!! Then, feast your eyes on the mega case of aged steaks! They have the highest quality meats and I can't imagine anyone being able to walk past this section empty-handed. Even the vegans are going to get turned on by those aged steaks!
Next, the middle of the store is filled with organic and gluten-free grocery products, vitamins, frozen foods---I know a lot of people are happy to have these, but this section isn't what sold me. But, I am digging the fresh bath salts and soaps...
OK, now to the right side of the store--starting in the back. Cheese from everywhere...how can you choose? Luckily, if there is a cheese you want to try that you have never had, just go up to the counter and tell them you want to try it--anything--even the most expensive cheese. Cheese heaven.
Then, another one of my favorites...the pasta station! A few ways you can do this. One way is to select a sheet of fresh pasta--select the flavor you want and which way you want it cut--and voila--fresh pasta just the way you want it. The other option is that they also have several other fresh pastas that you can select from the case that have already been cut and even stuffed--portabella ravioli, pumpkin tortellini, blah, blah, blah. Then pick your fresh sauce--the vodka sauce and the fra diavolo sauce are my faves.
And, then the bakery. Any kind of cake, cookie, bread, pretzel bread, corn bread, tea cookies, homemade croutons, whatever...I highly recommend the pretzel bread. Or, be sure to grab those homemade croutons to go with their off-the-hook tomato bisque!
Then, moving more towards the front, you are surrounded by freshly prepared food--it is the perfect place for single folks like myself to come and find dinner--and actually eat something that is good for me too. Soup bars, entree bars, organic salad bar, yada yada--you will love it!
Last, but certainly, not least--the pearl of the store--the PORCH! There is a pub in the grocery store! Order some local brew while your wife shops or chill with your friends for dinner. There is a place to walk up and punch in your order on a touch screen to get brick oven pizzas, breakfast items (served all day!), sandwiches, salads, and more. The Porch also offers some lovely coffee beverages. You can sit inside or outside and even play cornhole.
And, all the employees were all smiles and ready to help. A+ for customer service. Be sure to look up when you check out to see the collection of water skis--so retro and cool--quite a touch to make it more Virginia Beach and less national grocery chain. And, no need to worry about the parking when it gets busy--Kroger lot with plenty of spots right behind them.
Officially, the coolest grocery store ever!
