A must-do in Wichita! It’s unbelievable that so much wonderful art is free to access! They had such a great curation of paintings, photography, and sculpture. Such a lovely space to be in on a hot day, as well!

Google
What a gem in the heart of museum tie in Wichita. Wonderful exhibits, a great permanent collection, children’s area, and fun gift shop. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable too boot. The views from the second floor are beautiful and don’t forget to do the Chihuly Art Walk!

Google
I love art and art museums. July 13, 2025. What a great place! Lots of beautiful art work. One display are children's art work. Very creative.

Google
Solid art museum with a pretty good gift shop. Definitely take advantage of free admission when available. There is a decent amount of art to see here and their collection is pretty diverse. It’s not too big but the museum is laid out pretty well.

Google
Lovely art museum. Loved the stunning and very colorful entrance comprised of Chihuly pieces. You can actually walk over the display on the second floor. Beautiful art pieces featuring different collections and rotating exhibits and themes. If you love art museums, you must visit WAM!

Google
The free exhibits were exciting, what a perfect way to enjoy beautiful art. Also, getting to see young students art as well was really cool to see how creative some of them are.

Had a wonderful visit, not crowded on a Sunday. Great exhibits of photographs, school art showing, and glass. Friendly receptionist. It's a go to

Google
Museum collection features over 10,000 pieces of art but only a small fraction are on display. Having visited dozens of art museums around the country this is not one of my favorites. It is well worth a quick visit given that it is free but the current exhibits were not very notable. Price: free though there is fee for traveling exhibits Parking: free ample parking Duration: 1hour Unless you are a bit fan of Robert Peterson the $12 exhibit of his art is not worth the admission price in my opinion.

Yelp
I've been just about everywhere in the continental US but I had never been to Wichita. That's unfortunate because as I drove out of town, I wished I had been here years ago so I could have visited more times in the intervening years. The Wichita Art Museum has a solid collection firmly rooted in the mid-to-late 20th century. While there are no show stoppers here, highlights include two nice paintings by Edward Hopper, very interesting Reginald Marsh drawings, and two John Singleton Copley paintings. Check out how well he could paint the folds of a women's dress. Surprises for me were the works on paper, including spirit-infused watercolors by the masterful Charles Burchfield. I think they were the favorites of my visit. They have a small pre-Columbian collection that is closeted away in a few vitrines in the basement level. It deserves a place with a more scholarly emphasis on the main levels. This is a very safe and rather conservative permanent collection; no boundary pushing here. Regardless, it's still a pleasure.

Yelp
I love a great museum on my travels, and this one perfectly fit the bill. Free, plentiful, easy parking was only the beginning of the free experience. The museum entrance is free as well. I loved being immersed in the quiet tranquility, even doing some writing while there. Though I thought the 2 story museum would be a quick experience, I allowed the joy to take several hours.

Yelp
While on a work assignment in Wichita I visited the Wichita Art Museum with my daughter, her fiance, his mother and his sister. The museum was following the CDC guidelines of wearing masks and practicing social distancing which was very nice and I appreciated it very much. The museum was laid out very nicely and there was lots to see. They had a nice family area and a lot for the kids to do. My daughter (23 by the way) saw a chair that she just had to sit in and try because it looked like so much fun. I will say it really did look like a lot of fun and she had a blast sitting in it. There was a lot of nice artwork to view and the museum staff was very nice and helpful with any questions we had. It was a very nice day to go outside and enjoy the play area for the kids as well.

Yelp
Perfectly-sized museum for Wichita! Not overwhelming, but comfortable and you can leisurely spend an entire afternoon on the lawns, or in the cafe .. .. Two floors of the art, and other treasures, that shaped the area .. .. Pleasantly surprised by the collections and could have stayed longer .. .. And, find the WICHITA visitors magazine and they even had a $3 off coupon .. .. If you have a decent-sized family, it can save you a nice amount .. .. THANKS W.A.M!!

Yelp
I swear every time I go here, the girl who does the ArtVenture downstairs is extremely rude and not really nice to my nephew. He is a little rambunctious, but the girl should learn some patience if she is going to be working with children and should definitely not be so rude. I was telling him to get by when he went by her just to say hi and then jerk a tray from him that he needs anyway. It just doesn't make sense to me. Hopefully, someone new will be working there the next we try to go.

Yelp
My kids, husband and I really enjoyed our trip to the Art Museum today. Our kids school gave us free passes. We really enjoyed looking at all the paintings and the glass collection. My oldest daughter loved looking at the period clothing downstairs. Looking at the history was fashion was fascinating. The kids enjoyed the play area also. Thank you!!

Yelp
This is an AMAZING museum with nicely curated displays and sitting areas throughout. I don't have children but I did see kids enjoying the crafting area where they could just be kids and not have to be quiet in the museum. They have a Dale Chihuly display in the lobby that is gorgeous when you look up; if you walk to floor #2 - you can take your shoes off and walk on top of the structure (a glass floor separates you and the Chihuly display). Clean restrooms and friendly, helpful staff. And I even went on the free day which made it even more enjoyable !!

Yelp
We were lucky to catch the Preston Singletary exhibit on Raven Stealing the Daylight. What an incredible show! The museum staff were very friendly and it was easy to follow distancing and making guidelines.

Yelp
We visited the museum this afternoon and it has a pretty good collection of American art. The first floor art wasn't very interesting, but the second floor has some nice pieces - and there's currently a very worthwhile temporary exhibit ("The Disquieting Imagination"). Also, both the front desk person and the woman in the gift shop were very pleasant. AAA members receive a small discount on the admission price.

Yelp
I love going here for a classy place, with gourmet food, and a great view of the river. To top it off it's not expensive as the food would imply. I love taking my mother or mother in law here. The food is exquisite and beautifully arranged. Really top notch. The menu isn't huge but what they do they do very well! I love getting the smoked salmon salad. It is as gorgeous as it is delicious. The salad comes with beet swirls, apples, cream cheese, capers and rye bread on the side. The special of the day is always worth a try as well and I have never been disappointed with the deserts.

Yelp
The Georgia O'Keeffe exhibit was outstanding!! The museum is a gem that should be experienced by all.

Yelp
I love art museums and the Wichita Art Museum is a great one. The architecture of the building is beautiful and modern, as is the interior design. During my visit, I really enjoyed the storytelling exhibit, featuring treasures from the WAM collection, including pieces by Edward Hopper, Stuart Davis, Jun Kaneko, and many more notable artists. There were also small galleries dedicated to Western art, works by Wichita-based artists, and printmaking, among others. Sadly, one of the main galleries on the second floor was closed due to the installation of the next major exhibit, but hey, what can you do? That just means there's something to look forward to on my next visit.

Yelp
Really not a lot of stuff at this museum. I was expecting a lot more art for 10$ than the very modest collection they have, which I managed to walk the entirety of in under 30 mins.

Yelp
This museum is one of the finest I've been to in a city the size of Wichita, and it definitely hold it's own against any of the top museums. I have enjoyed coming here to browse whatever new exhibit they may be featuring, or just to get away from the stress of the "real world." The atmosphere is very comforting and quiet. I'm not sure, but I feel like the walls and carpeting are extra plush, in order to absorb sound and make visitors feel more comfortable while viewing the exhibits. The color scheme is also fairly muted and all-around pretty darn classy. I've eaten at the cafe a couple of times, but not since the management of the cafe changes, so I can't comment on the new food. From what I was able to see however, it looks pretty nice, and I could easily see myself coming to the museum for a quiet and inspired afternoon and then sitting down for a nice lunch or snack to round out the day. I've also attended a few events in the main hall, which has a fantastic multicolored blown-glass sculpture which catches the light beautifully through the wall of windows. I also enjoy the part of the floor where you can walk over plexi-glass plates and see more glass artwork right below your feet. The room is spacious and can fit many tables for meetings, banquets, and other special events. I've always been impressed with the way the staff handles large groups of people, and I think you can bring in outside catering. I would definitely recommend this place for any important occasions.

Yelp
The Wichita Art Museum was a mixed bag. The first floor was a yawn, and nearly empty on our trip...but the second floor was excellent. I'd hate to think that some visitors might actually miss the second floor! They had a few truly great traveling exhibits, and some awesome Chihuly pieces. I don't know if the glass Chihuly "bridge" is permanent or not, but we had a lot of fun with that (take off your shoes and walk across a transparent bridge over the glass sculptures). We visited on a Saturday with free admission, which was awesome. The security staff manages to be polite and accommodating; that's a plus for me as I hate visiting museums (like Crystal Bridges in NWA) where they act like every museum patron's a suspected criminal. The museum is located on the "museum row" near the river, and parking was available right next to the building. Good experience!

Yelp
Free on Saturdays! Very clean and diverse selection of art.

Joe C.

Yelp
Wichita's art museum is a cool spot, worth a visit on (free) Saturdays but quite small all things considered. That's not necessarily a bad thing if you are showcasing a particular thing, but small plus extremely eclectic doesn't necessarily work for me. The focus is on American 20th century (Kansan) art, so I was a little baffled by the admittedly very cool stock car racing photograph collection on the first floor. And I may have been a little bemused by the Chihuly exhibition here considering my home town. (That guy is right on the border of Kinkade when it comes to Midwestern ubiquity!) While the collection might be adequate, the architecture is beautiful - including the sculptures around the grounds. It's a great space for any event you could want and worth a visit for that reason alone. So if you take advantage and visit on a weekend, you'll be happy to have visited. A perfectly acceptable way to acquire some culture.

Yelp
The Art Museum was a blast! I went there as part of a college project to determine the best museum in Wichita. It was modern, clean, elegant, and unique. They change out collections often, so it's almost never the same stuff twice. It has a slick cellphone tour that added tremendous amounts of information to several works in their permanent collection. The displays are topnotch, the quality is incredible, and the organization is excellent. A kids section with various activities is available. For those looking for interaction, this museum doesn't provide very much. For those looking for art, this is a must-see! Their gift shop is the best I've seen in a museum, but you will pay dearly for the gifts. Overall, an awesome experience. Pro tip: School groups get in free (but call ahead)!

Yelp
Worth a visit just for the opportunity to walk on top of Dale Chihuly's glass plates exhibit, which is safely (I hope) encased in a couple layers of thick plexiglass. There's generally a rotating series of exhibits on loan, but even if they were restricted to the "permanent collections", it would still be a significant collection of art. Note: Saturdays are free admission, and even then the museum's rarely crowded, so you can quietly wander and browse. My one complaint: although the website clearly says you may photograph works in the permanent collection using available light, I was accosted by a security person on my last visit who told me I needed "permission" from the front desk to photograph ANYTHING in the museum, so you might want to check with them first to make sure some fat chick with a walkie talkie won't threaten to confiscate your film. Kinda ruined my visit and made me feel guilty for doing something the museum clearly states is okay.

Yelp
This small city museum has a lot to offer. I love the Cassatt and the Hopper. They often have special events. I took my son to the kids day and they had many interactive things for the kids to make and touch. Also admission is free on Saturdays. I would definitely recommend visiting this museum.

Yelp
I'm not an art enthusiast, however this is a neat little museum with a variety of captivating art from different eras. Definitely worth a visit!

Yelp
Despite what they may profess, this is not a child friendly venue. We were closely followed around the entire museum by the same attendant, despite the fact that any one of the other numerous patrons could have damaged a painting just as easily as us; while that uppity guy was eyeballing us like we were about to go all Thomas Crown Affair at any moment. We were told to "step back" so many times I about wanted to scream at him, even though we never got any closer than any other person viewing the paintings. I'll be the first to admit that my kid isn't perfect - he has a tendency to talk in public about farts way too often, he has some volume control issues, when he gets excited he tends to bounce around a lot. But I make sure that he knows when to touch and when to keep hands off, and he knew darn good and well that the museum was a "no touch" venue. It could have been an enjoyable and engaging experience, but we were very disappointed.
