Second time eating at Wienerschnitzel last evening. Missed it as we used to eat at Wienerschnitzel in Phoenix a few years back. Happy to see it here in the Springs.
It is a nice place for a quick hot dog and fries, for sure. Tried the Texas BBQ this time. Was a nice change from the standard mustard/ketchup dog! Will try the Aussie Dog next time - the horseradish aioli sounds intriguing! And I love horseradish. The lady taking orders said all their dogs are grilled - as I asked! Not sure about the Chicago dog. Aren't they usually steamed! Might try one next time!
If you want an "all beef" dog or "Polish" dog, you need to ask for it on some of the hotdog choices. Otherwise, the lady taking our order the first visit said the "Original" dogs were made with turkey and chicken. The all beef hot dog costs $1.49 extra. Fortunately for me, the Texas BBQ came with the all beef dog!
Service was pretty quick for us but watched a few other people wait quite some time for their complete order to come up. They were handed sacks of food but had to wait for their complete order. Didn't the first sacks get cold waiting? In the meantime, the family stood around taking up the space other visitors needed to get to the counter and the first booth closest to the counter - they weren't sitting, just leaning on and around the booth. The actual inside of the restaurant is not that big - very compact.
Food was good. Walked in just in time - about 7:00 p.m. People stacked up right after but one family had 5 people in their party, ordered their food and took it with them - the family mentioned above. So it looked more crowded than it was. Only 4 people actually were sitting at the tables eating.
We chose to eat inside as the drive-thru line gets crazy. BTW, don't park on the side of the building because if the drive-thru line backs up, you are stuck to back out! There are two drive-thru lines - one enters from the back and one enters via the side of the building.
As for the drive-thru - there was a cool Volkswagen bus sitting in line for the drive-thru when we drove up and went inside. We ordered, sat and ate our food and as we were leaving, the Volkswagen bus was just then actually sitting at the drive-thru window waiting for food!
I only had two issues really. The floor in the eating area was not very clean - food pieces laying around - and the few tables - maybe five and two booths - were in need of being wiped off between customers! Didn't use the restrooms, so no judgment there. Seems during busy times, an employee could be utilized merely to keep the tables, floor and drink/condiment station tidy and wiped clean.
My biggest gripe and won't make the mistake again - I asked for water to drink. I was asked what size cup. I said just a small. I assumed I would receive a small plastic or Styrofoam cup. I was given a small drink cup and I saw it ring up on the register as a Pepsi for $1.89. Really - for a water cup! So be sure you watch the register when you ask for water to drink with your meal!
The prices are reasonable, I guess. We had a double chili hotdog combo and a Texas BBQ hotdog and our bill came to a little less than $15. But that included my $1.89 water cup! Comparable to other fast food restaurants!
Otherwise, we will visit again as I like a good hotdog once in a while! And because Frank's Chicago Dogs has closed we needed a fast dog place!
