We were incredibly lucky to visit WIFE & HUSBAND without a reservation. We showed up and got seated right away, which we know isn’t common since the café is small and usually requires booking weeks ahead (I knew about it but missed the opportunity to make a booking). Most reviews mention that it’s a beloved spot with limited seating and often long booking waits, so being able to dine there felt like a special stroke of luck.
The café itself is cozy and charming with a lovely antique-filled interior, and the coffee and food we had on site were nice (even if not extraordinary). The atmosphere made for a memorable experience.
At the end of our visit I bought two bags of their beans: Father (which we enjoyed in the café) and Mother (decaf). At home I opened the Mother beans, they looked pitch black and very oily, and they had a strong fishy smell unlike normal coffee. I brewed them anyway, but the result had a strange chemical sweet note and was unpleasant, so I had to throw them out. I suspect they were spoiled, possibly due to storage or transport issues. I hope the café can look into this, as the visit itself was otherwise lovely.
