"The popular restaurant and bar is known for it’s birthday week special, bring in friends and celebrants would get a free t-shirt, drink for free, and dance the night away and also bloody Marys on the weekend. It’s been about twenty years of free birthday drinks and bloody Mary’s at 788 Grand Avenue, but as of March 31, the Wild Onion will close." - Joy Summers

Good Mexican food. Good service. Bartender seemed to be having a bit of a bad day. I kinda felt for her as I know what that's like to have to work and deal with drama via text. Loved the art work on the walls. Contemporary.

It's a blast. Recently much better than it was before. Good food, better drinks. Kitchen closes around 10. Bartenders and wait staff are a lot of fun, not to mention gorgeous. Definitely a more college aged crowd. During their busy days it can be overwhelming for some if you like a toned down bar. If so, Monday's are your day. If you relish in the crowd: Tuesday, Friday and Saturday seem to be their busiest. Lots of specials for drinks and whatnot too.

We're met friends there at 6 pm 9/3/17 . The were not busy at all. We needed seating for 9. We were seat way from the bar toward the back. Our service person was not concentrating on our party. We wished to order Apps which we did and then wanted our food order at same time. She forgot numerous reorders on drinks. She put app offers and entrees at same time so had no munchies for drink time. We actually got entrees before the apps. Several members of our party had to go over to bar to get their own drinks. We definitely were not her priority last night. She disappeared for longer than normal amounts of time. The food was fabulous but service was not up to par. We won't be back for some time. After reading previous reviews, poor service seems to be normal for this restaurant.

This restaurant bar is good. The food is really good and diverse. Last time I went we had an array of food items and we liked them all. Had a decent selection of drinks. Happy hour prices are good. Their typical prices are a little higher than average. Small parking lot to the East side of the building. Located in a nicely developed area for boutique like shopping. I recommend a stop to this spot.

Very young crowd. Like < 25yrs, mostly 21-24. Don't ever go on a Tuesday unless you wanna be shoulder to shoulder everywhere. I was in shock, this place is no joke on a Tuesday night. It's their birthday Tuesday so apparently that's their biggest night. The dance floor is about the size of my kitchen, or a child's small bedroom. It's definitely not big enough to support the crowd. The DJ is pretty good, nothing fancy, just top 40 hits video DJ. Mainstream stuff only. Service is pretty good, can't really complain there. Bathrooms are small for ladies, only 3 stalls BUT they do have 2 full length mirrors which is actually a plus if your a girl you know how great of a luxury that is. Parking can be tricky. There is some street parking out front and also a small lot in the back. We have never had an issue finding parking but I am not sure if that's pure luck or what cause the place is always packed. The area is full of college apartments and such so I'm sure most of them walk. There is no cover charge and there is a security gaurd checking IDs at the door. Especially in Tuesdays ,lol, they actually have the st Paul police department there. Like I said, Tuesdays are their biggest night. Overall decent place, I'm in early 30s so it's not really my crowd, but it makes for good people watching, but I did feel like I was chaperoning at one point with all these 21 year olds who know no better.

I was in a party of 9 at 5:30pm on a Friday evening. It took over 30 minutes to get our food after ordering. One in our party was very dissatisfied with her walleye fingers. They were mostly batter and bones. My wife's burger, ordered medium well, was pink all the way through. The onion rings and fries were the lone highlight. I ordered the spicy fried chicken. Beware, the hot sauce is very hot but with good flavor. The service was pretty slow, especially considering it was not all that busy. Lastly, I would consider the uniform of the waitresses to be unnecessarily scant.

We are (somewhat) frequent customers - I'd say 10 times per year. Typically our food and service is great. Last night (3/18) was quite the different experience. One of the two hostesses was rude and seemed to have a bit of an attitude. She wouldn't look at us as she told the other girl that we couldn't have a table in the area we requested (there were plenty of open tables throughout the restaurant). The other hostess who actually seated us was kind (although I think still in training) apologized to us multiple times. Our server was friendly and seemed to be on top of everything until after we received our food. She then disappeared. We requested a 3rd table setting (as there were 3 of us) - that never arrived. We helped ourselves to napkins from their supply station. Also, all 3 of waited nearly 15 minutes with empty glasses before we finally saw her again and had to request that she get us all refills. Our food, as usual was quite good. We hadn't seen much of the staff there before - maybe they're new and need more training. Nonetheless, the service was not very good, subpar at best. The hostess really needs a lesson in customer service - especially since she is the FIRST impression.

Excellent company while visiting this establishment. We sat at a table on Grand Ave. in my right ear I could hear the thumping of Maroon 5 while the left heard passing cars. Wild fans walking by. Quite pleasant for a cool Saturday Spring afternoon. They don't have shakes on the menu - bummer. I promised by daughter a shake today. Our waitstaff was efficient with straws - when she brought out another lemonade my daughter transferred her straw from the first glass to the second. Nice touch. ; ) After your meal check out Mischief, to the west a block - eccentric toy store with proprietors who care about quality. I enjoyed the crisp lettuce and onions on my turkey burger but daughter had an issue with burger to bun ratio. She couldn't finish the burger anyway - she doesn't eat that much, but she did tell me it was good.
