Let's get a couple things cleared up before I leave this 1-star review. I am 38 years old, have lived in multiple different states and have consumed and greatly enjoyed food from many different cultures- I have not kept myself inside of an insular food bubble. That said, I am an American and have had tons of different hamburgers & fries. I will now tell you this... The hamburger & fries I got from wild pastures was absolutely the worst I've ever had.
The very first thing I noticed upon entering the building was the overwhelming smell of tallow and cleaner. My son said it smelled like a worse school cafeteria. The one thing that was good about the french fries was that they were generally crispy, but it was inconsistent - a lot of them were too squishy. I couldn't get past the fact that they tasted like tallow, and the only thing that helped was dipping them in the ketchup which was tasty. At least they were salted well.
The burger: The meat itself was fine, but I'm just wondering why they didn't salt and pepper it? Has this place ever heard of garlic salt? There was no flavor found in the burger whatsoever besides the onions and pickles lol. I ordered the chimichurri sauce on the side but it literally tasted like nothing. The wild sauce also had a weird, off flavor and I couldn't bear to eat it. Also, the hamburger dumped out so much grease while I was trying to eat it. pretty much everything was incredibly greasy, it just turned me off so much.
I just don't understand why a place like this that prioritizes being generally healthier than the average fast food joint doesn't prioritize flavor as well. Is it because of the demographic found in Boulder? I don't know, but my son made a comment that I actually agreed with. The place had some kind of religious undertone.
My husband, son and I all had different meals, and none of us liked them. I will say, the one star is for the nice young man that checked us out, and the milkshake. I would definitely step in for a milkshake, but I will never eat the food here again.
