‘Pappygate’ Bandit Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison

"This distillery was also victimized by the same ring run by Gilbert “Toby” Curtsinger, who exploited his former employment to steal valuable bourbon, including trophy bottles that commanded high street value. Law enforcement recovered part of the contraband (20 cases of Pappy Van Winkle were among the items seized in 2015), and investigators say the liquor was hauled away in a pickup truck hidden beneath a tarp. Curtsinger pleaded guilty to several charges stemming from the scheme and received a 15-year prison sentence." - Chris Crowley

We had a wonderful time at our tasting. Our guide was knowledgeable and made the experience fun and engaging. We will definitely be back. The cocktail bar drinks were pricey but phenomenal, and getting to keep the glass was a big bonus!

Fantastic visit! Amenities and staff are the best! Visitor center is beautiful and very high class! 3 stories high. Is bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside. We sampled a shot before the tour. We browsed the gift shop. Tour was super informative. Even learned a little information about Jimmy, Joretta, and Eddie Russell. After the tour we joined the sampling room and tried four unique flavors. We picked up a few souvenirs afterward. This tour is a must stop on the Bourbon Trail!

This was our second time here first time to the new distillery and it is gorgeous. Bo was our tour guide and he did an amazing job sharing the history of the place, whiskey and some personal stories about the Russell's. I am also happy to say, no mention of 51% corn, new American oak... We booked the Born from the Barrel btw. We got a tour via bus and by feet of the original rickhouse, one of the oldest buildings on the property (Actual where we met Jimmy Russel on our last tour) and finished it off with a tasting of the older stuff. Not to mention, an option to buy Russell's 13 year. Which I of course did. Overall an outstanding time and definitely one of my favorite tours of a legacy distillery.

Google
This tour was AWESOME!!!! Bo was such a great guide and us being able to tour a Rickhouse and learn about the Russell's legacy and see some of his personal items was amazing! Then the opportunity to purchase a "special" allocated and overly priced bottle (Russell's 13yr) in the wild made it even more incredible! I will recommend this tour to everyone and can't wait to go back for another WT and/or Russell's tour.

Beautiful modern visitors center. Not at all what we expected. It looks small as you arrive but its not. Its a multi level center with bars, shop, and several seating areas both indoor and outside plus beautiful tasting rooms. It has a gorgeous view as well. We were very fortunate to arrive early for shopping and delicious unique cocktails. As a bonus Jimmy Russell was there and graciously signed several bottles and a christmas ornament for us. We did the Russell's Connousseur experience featuring 4 pours including Russell's 13 which is really good. Our guide was fun. Very knowledgeable and with interesting takes on bourbon. It was a great experience and we were so happy to spend time at Wild Turkey.

I just completed my first trip along the Bourbon Trail. We visited Heaven Hill, Buffalo Trace, Michter’s, Old Forester, Whiskey Thief, and Wild Turkey for the Russell’s Immersion Tour. I was most excited about this stop since Wild Turkey and Russell’s are my favorites. When we arrived, I was immediately impressed with the building and the grounds. We boarded a newer, well-appointed, and comfortable tour bus to begin. Our guide, Bo, was genuine and friendly from the start. The first stop was one of the Tyrone warehouses, where Bo shared details about the distillery’s history, process, and the Russell family. He had an answer for every question I asked, and I had quite a few. Our second stop was an on-site old house, where we learned more about Jimmy Russell and his early days at the distillery. We even got to see a few hidden gems from his early career. The final stop was the tasting room back at the visitor center. It was cozy and inviting. Bo walked us through four tastings — three bourbons and one rye — while sharing more stories and insights. To top it off, we were surprised with a special treat: a bottle purchase ticket. I won’t give away too much, since I’m sure it’s not a regular occurrence. Two things really stood out about this tour. First, the transportation. The tour bus was comfortable and a great touch, especially for the older folks in our group who appreciated not having to walk much. It set this experience apart from other tours we’ve done. Second, Bo himself. He was exceptional. Unlike many tour guides who feel overly scripted or theatrical, Bo came across as completely genuine. He spoke with real passion about the Russell family and the brand’s history. By the end, I felt like I’d spent the last hour with the Russells themselves. My only disappointment was arriving a little too early for the Single Rickhouse Camp Nelson E release. I went straight to the bar hoping to try a sample, but it wasn’t available yet. Not a big deal, though, I’ll get my hands on a bottle eventually. Overall, 10/10 would recommend this tour.

Google
Beautiful visitors center and grounds! The Russell’s tasting experience was great! There’s also a stellar bar to enjoy pours and cocktails of Wild Turkey products. If you get the timing right? You may just see and get to meet Jimmy!

Google
Great tasting experience, we did the premium tour and received some delicious tastings. Definitely worth spending the money for this tasting. Wild turkey has a gorgeous campus overlooking the river and two bridges down below in the valley. There's an outdoor bar and seating area where you can enjoy an old fashioned. Definitely add this to your Bourbon trail adventure.

Yelp
What a waste. Beautiful bar area , no free tasting!!! Drove extra 30 min out to try and left with nothing. Very frustrating and disappointing.

Yelp
Let me start by saying that Wild Turkey Rare Breed bourbon makes my top 2 bourbons and I've recently purchases a Kentucky Spirit single barrel ans a couple of 70th anniversaries, and am really looking forward to both. Secondly, i didn't to a tour here. I stopped at several distilleries and couldn't do tours everywhere. I guess for such an iconic brand like Wild Turkey i was expecting to be wowed when driving up to the building . . . . and maybe expecting a little more from the building itself i guess. Don't get me wrong, it was very nice, maybe a little too nice, to sterile. To me Wild Turkey brings a more rustic, unrefined setting to mind . . . . I mean it is called "Wild" Turkey after all. I'll continue to be a big fan of their bourbon (The bourban gets 5 stars for sure.) and maybe take a tour the next time (I assume they have tours . . . . didn't check.).

Yelp
Granted, I was at Wild Turkey probably 15 years ago. And if you give me my options of bourbons, I'm not going to pick wild turkey. However, the actual visitor center for Wild Turkey is one of the most beautiful spaces I've seen. you're probably going to be waiting until your tour starts because wild turkey is such a large campus. You actually do this tour on on a bus. So they have to drive you around to different areas. So while you're waiting, you get to hang out and check out the gift shop or the lounge upstairs. Or my other favorite the outdoor area which has a gorgeous view of the valley where Wild Turkey located. There's a lounge at the Wild Turkey which overlooks the beautiful area. You can also get started by just having a cocktail with some wild turkey in it. This was a wonderful way to get started with the tour and it was a beautiful piece of architecture with the way they had it set up.

Yelp
I'm pleased to announce that the gorgeous steel and glass Visitors Center to the north of the highway is back in business and looks as good as it always did. In the new configuration the gift shop is in the rear of the building on the lower level. The lower level also now opens to an open air bar and seating area that overlooks the river. The upper level of the back of the building has the bar with a cozy seating area. In the front, where you check in, there is a new tasting room which is pleasantly dark but a little cramped. Wild Turkey is a must stop on the Bourbon Trail tour, not only to buy bottles unavailable elsewhere, but for the chance that you'll run into the Living Legend Jimmy Russell, whom I've met twice, hanging out in the lobby signing bottles and swapping stories. Still sharp as a tack!

Yelp
At this time Wild Turkey has a temporary pop up gift shop since the main visitors center is under renovation. The temporary location is basically a gift shop selling everything Wild Turkey with a small cocktail lounge. There was no one attending the bar when we visited so no idea on prices or what they offer. Bottle prices are slightly higher than what you can purchase at a box store so unless it's a rare release, nothing too special at this location. Hopefully on our next visit, the main visitors center will be available as well as tours.

Yelp
I would not include this on your must-visit bucket list on the bourbon trail. However if you are already driving by like we were, then you might as well make a quick stop. The grounds are nicely kept but not breathtaking. The whiskey is what it is...famous bottom shelf whiskey at good price. They have a bar where you can purchase full glasses (not small tastings). You get to keep the glass from the tasting.

Yelp
Perfect afternoon here in Anderson county! We had reservations and got in right on time. The visitors center is stunning. The stave roof ramp to the tasting room is stellar! Bo was our tasting host. Very knowledgeable and we loved his history and family connections. Made the time we had all the more enjoyable. The staff is warm and friendly and that's not the bourbon talking either. Plan ahead. We booked for this tasting in mid-August. It's worth the wait and you'll enjoy your time here. We sure did snd we'll be back.

Yelp
Up front, I am not a fan of Wild Turkey. However the distillery experience was ok. A pleasant customer service experience. A limited but nice gift shop that only sells original items (can't buy gift shop items anywhere else in the world; minus black market). Limited bar serving pour drinks (no cocktails) with a very impressive outdoor area to sip (limited shade). This is a short visit unless you scheduled the tour.

Yelp
I would love to give the gift shop and bar 5 stars, but the absolute rudeness of the woman who was the team lead completely ruined our experience. Not only was short and lacking respect for our group who was purchasing items in the store, she inconsiderately demanded our friend move from a chair that was not marked reserved. Anyone with any costumer service experience would know how to politely address paying patrons. Women should lift women up, not treat each other with such disrespect!

Yelp
We stopped by the temporary gift shop. Two older gentleman were working there, both were pleasant and very knowledgeable. They sell there products at MSRP and they know there stuff.

Yelp
Do not plan to taste anything after 4:00. We drove over an hour to do tasting because the website said they were open till 5:00. We arrived at 4:10 only to be greeted with, "we closed our tasting counter at 4:00". A complete waste of our time. Updating there website with this information would have saved us two hours of day. Plenty of other distilleries we can support.
