Raleigh Best 12 Cocktail Bars Open Right Now | Eater Carolinas

"Whiskey and bourbon lovers rejoice because there is perhaps no better selection anywhere in the state that at the Angus Barn’s Wild Turkey Lounge. The lounge gets its name from the 600-plus decorative Wild Turkey decanters on display (the largest private collection of such decanters in the world), and Entrepreneur Magazine once named it “One of the Best Business Bars in America.” Whether sealing a business deal or not, guests can select from dozens of bourbons, whiskeys, scotches, and more. True aficionados will appreciate the reserve list featuring rare finds like Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve, Thomas H. Handy Sazerac rye, and the Old Fitzgerald 15-year." - Matt Lardie

This is a "have it all" type of place. Great steak, humble selection of cigars (but good options), and the best whiskey selection of any restaurant I've been to in the southeast (maybe anywhere). They do have many other liquor, beer, and wine options. I enjoyed 2 cigars (outdoor patio only - no indoor smoking lounge) and walk-in dinner at the Wild Turkey Lounge segment of the restaurant. Will definitely be back again!

It's been years since we ate at the Angus Barn. We wanted to see the holiday decorations (the decorations are up through January) but didn't have a reservation. Went Monday night after the New Year and got there just before opening at 5, only had to wait around 15 minutes for a table for three in the Wild Turkey Lounge. They serve the entire menu and a few additional more casual items in the lounge. We all decided on the Signature Steak Sandwich and some wine. The sandwich is huge (can easily be shared) and delicious. Finished the meal with the Chocolate Explosion (not on the menu; they add a slice of chess pie to an ice cream sundae) and the Apple Cobbler. I was disappointed in the Cobbler but everything else, including the service, was excellent. Will have to come back again and sit at the bar.

My absolute favorite Christmas tradition is coming to the angus barn, looking at the decorations and eating the food. This year like in years past they did NOT disappoint. Severin was the bartender and he was funny, witty, and present but not overbearing. Tomahawk steak was just as good as I remember it. This is the best time of the year to go.

The Angus Barn has a long history of exceptional food and service. My first visit was in 1973. During the holiday season, a reservation is a must. You can enjoy drinks from the bar with furnished cheese spread and crackers while waiting to be seated. Decorated inside and out for photo opts. Crowded but worth it.

Most delicious and tender beef we have ever eaten. We'll worth the price. Service from Miss Kathy and Nick was beyond perfect. Attentive, efficient and personable. They really care about each customer. We had a delightful experience all around.

Google
If you are trying to go around the holidays, I suggest you make your reservation a year in advance or get there early, really early. However, the amount of effort they put into the decorations is just simply amazing 😍 personality I think the food is great, but the service and attention to detail is really why you go. Top notch establishment and on the rare opportunities I get to go, I jump on it.

Had a great early dinner with family. Excellent food, service, and atmosphere with no rush to finish. Kat was very attentive and pleasant. Highly recommend! ( note* No reservations-go early)

Google
This place is super cool. It’s a super fancy place. They let a couple of degenerates like us come in and have some cocktails. We had their famous old-fashioned and didn’t regret it. All the wild turkey stuff was awesome plus some of the historic stuff they have in there is crazy.

Yelp
Wowww. Such a cool venue. Great service and great food. They have a super cool wine flight with 3 or 6 pours. Skye was my server and she is so good. We chatted about food and wine and she helped curate a perfect meal.

Yelp
Great spot for food, bevs, and relics. Seriously, the decor has the intrigue of an Americana museum. Charlie was a fabulous server. Our table loved the complimentary crackers and cheese spreads along with the fresh pickle and veggie bucket. I enjoyed my ny strip steak with sweet potato, Caesar salad, and house red wine; my son also got a steak and potato, but opted for broccoli cheese soup which he practically licked the bowl. Same can be said for the chocolate sundae dessert (where does he put it, I have no idea)!!! Plenty of private parking. Did I mention the HDTV in the bathroom?

Yelp
I have lived in the Raleigh area for forty-six years but never dined at The Angus Barn until tonight. I will never go back. I have always heard The Angus Barn was a destination restaurant known for its rich history, rustic atmosphere, and mouthwatering steaks. It's all hype. The Angus Barn has nothing worth calling itself a high-end restaurant. From the beginning of the experience we were greeted by an obnoxious server who tried his best to impress us with the restaurant's statistics by telling us how old the place is and how they served 23,000 steaks per month. I couldn't have cared less. Prove it to me. They didn't. I was there with my mother who was treating me for my birthday. Present with me was my wife and a close family friend. My wife and this friend ordered the surf and turf for $73. While their filet was acceptable, the seafood (shrimp and lobster) was overcooked and rubbery. I ordered the 22oz. bone-in ribeye to be cooked med-rare. My steak came out overcooked to medium, and literally had zero flavor. It was not even salted. A single sprig of rosemary garnishing the steak would have made it better, but like the steak, it was only there for show. I also ordered a garden salad and baked potato with this meal. My salad consisted of a bowl of mixed greens, two cherry tomatoes and one red onion ring. That was it. They called it a garden salad, but forgot to add the garden. They also forgot to add blue cheese to the blue cheese dressing. Like the steak, it too was bland. In addition to this the meal came with a baked potato that turned out to be barely cooked throughout. We ordered this with butter, sour cream, and bacon bits which came to us via the obnoxious waiter who scooped out each ingredient from bowls and plopped it onto the potatoes. Why these could not be put in cups and given to us I have no idea. The concept was ridiculous and awkward. Finally I ordered mushrooms in wine and garlic sauce. They were dry and rubbery, and like the rest of the meal, had no flavor. We would have skipped dessert but because it was my birthday dinner, they offered a small pound cake. I'm glad it was free because like all the food, it too was dry and had little to no flavor. I wish I could say some positive things about this restaurant, but nothing was positive. The place is a joke and not worth the hype or the more than $400 my mother spent on this terrible meal. I feel like my mother was robbed. I would have said something, but didn't want to make scene. And in case you question my tastes, let me qualify that I am a chef who has worked for some of the best restaurants in the area including Prestonwood Country Club and The Umstead Hotel and Spa. I know good food when I see and taste it. Sadly, The Angus Barn has none. Don't waste your time chasing the hype.

Yelp
Great dining experience but phew I am stuffed! Our waiter was super kind and the ambiance gives rustic, southern charm. My stuffed potatoes could have used a little bit of salt. The steak was cooked well, but also lacking some flavor this time around. Slightly disappointed by those. I do always love coming here though.

Yelp
Having experienced Bern's Steak House in my former city of residence, Tampa, I was so curious to check out Angus Barn. Since we moved to downtown Raleigh in February of this year we have been told many times to get to Angus Barn (or Big Red as it is affectionately called by many in this beloved restaurant's family). It took us a while, and now we wish we had given ourselves the treat of dining at Angus Barn sooner. From the moment we navigated off of Glenwood and into the parking lot we felt we had arrived somewhere special. The canopy covering the area is lush & green at this time of year as we commented on how gorgeous it must be come fall. Approaching the building we took note of the welcoming vibe of the outside saloon with its charming decor and unique seating opportunities. Once inside it felt homey, comfortable, and kind with quite the welcoming host staff. We mentioned we arrived early to enjoy the Wild Turkey Lounge and we were told exactly how to navigate that way with ease. When we asked if we could walk around and explore the dining areas as this was our first visit to their restaurant the team seemed genuinely happy that we wanted to check out their home away from home. Amazing space! So large yet made to feel welcoming due to the decor and prideful staff at every turn. X was bartending in the Wild Turkey Lounge and what a joy he was as our first dining experience service member at Angus Barn. When we mentioned our possible food choices, X was in total agreement that we were right on track for a fantastic meal. Cup of onion soup, a wedge salad that is the BEST we have ever tasted, and their shaved steak sandwich with an unctuous stuffed potato as our side dish selection. This after already marveling at the complimentary cheese & relish tray! We met new friends at the bar, which is something we look forward to doing many times in the near future. This place is an institution in Raleigh, and it is easy to understand why. The wine list is thoughtfully procured, the pricing across the lists of beverages AND food is fair and approachable for every day dining, and they have been around for 65 years due to the vision of founders Thad Eure, Jr. and Charles Winston. Family members of the Eure family have kept in place many of the founding principles and stay tuned in to their employees and guests as the guiding light. We were provided a tour by Chloe last night after X and sommelier Kevin both suggested we do so. The information that young woman shares about the restaurant, its history, the Eure family, the wine cellar, and unique dining opportunities beyond the dining rooms is mind-blowing. Chloe made me want to go home and learn more, and I did! But not until we shopped in their Country Store with Scott ringing up our treasures as he provided more fun facts about Angus Barn. Then Walter Hilliard Greene bid us a warm and genuine good-bye as he encouraged me to take an apple from the barrel that sits at the front entryway. I was so surprised and asked him incredulously, "Really!?!?" This famous-in-his-own rights guy assured me that is what guests do as they leave Angus Barn. I asked him his name, I shook his hand, and I smiled knowing I had found a new restaurant home in Raleigh. We did not want our early dinner night to end yet so we stopped at Mike's bar outside at the Entrance Saloon. As he seemed to ask each guest, Mike asked us, "What are you celebrating?" with such a warmth in his voice that you felt like he truly cared about the answer forthcoming. We told him we were celebrating moving to Raleigh and finally getting to Angus Barn! That started another great conversation with another member of the Angus Barn family. As a former restaurant manager (I worked with David Laxer of Bern's Steak House back in Tampa as his General Manager of their sister restaurant SideBern's back in the late 1990's) I recognize and deeply appreciate a well-run restaurant that not only puts out fabulous cuisine with wines that pair perfectly with the Chef's culinary team's talent but also showcases a staff that obviously loves what they do and who they do it for. Van Eure continues her parents' legacy of "the guest is our boss" mentality. Great leaders listen to their staff and customers, and Van does just that. I can only hope I have the honor to meet Van on our next visit in to this exceptional restaurant.

Yelp
Went here for our 35th wedding anniversary. If you like steak this is the place to go. It's pricey but worth every penny. The start you off with a cheese and cracker tray and if you like a relish tray too. I ordered the espresso rubbed filets with blue cheese mashed potato and green beans included is a salad or soup and I chose the broccoli cheese soup which was amazing. The the bread and butter came out which was really yummy. My wire ordered the regular prime rib and it was done to perfection and she said it was among the best she ever had. They always ask if you are celebrating anything and we said our anniversary and at the end of the meal we got an anniversary pound cake. If you are celebrating a special occasion this is the place to do so.

Yelp
From the very beginning, it's extremely impressive to look at. From the sheer size, the entry way with an outdoor bar that you can get some refreshers while you wait, to inside the restaurant. Definitely not over the top requirements, but your hat DOES need to come off. The overall atmosphere was extremely pleasant. From our wait staff, our service, to the food... it was all top notch and a great experience. I arrived with a large group of folks for a supplier/customer shmooze n booze festivity and it was GREAT! Our hosts knew that menu from front to back and made sure all of our needs were met. They were on top of it! I ordered the 14oz. Ribeye with the Stuffed Baked Potato for a side, which is basically a twice baked potato with the goodies but it came in a dish. There were crackers/wafers with cheese spreads dishes, various pickled veggies, peppers, and olives scattered throughout the tables. They brought out some loaves of warm bread... all part of the experience. Nothing we asked for. It was just there. As for the ribeye... it was decent. I think I was expecting an explosion of flavor or something mind blowing... but... it was alright. Nothing too impressive. However, that Loaded stuffed potato dish? Wow!! Now that was something!! Absolutely fantastic! Others around me had the rack of ribs, the lamb chops, pasta dishes, and even a fillet mignon wrapped in bacon. I opted for no dessert, but had myself some doubles of Woodford Reserves, and an old Fashioned. The price was steep, but expected in this type of environment. Overall, definitely a must try and most definitely would come here again with my better half. Coming from the PNW, there isn't much like this establishment. But since in Texas, steakhouses are plentiful, so the real competition is how the meats and foods are prepared. So with that, I'll leave with this... great experience and atmosphere and as always, Enjoy & Happy Eating!

Yelp
What a place! I'm new to the area and this was the FIRST place I tried when I landed. This place has a great country vibe with yummy steaks! (And I'm from Texas so that says a lot). Service was great. She was patient with my friend and I since we hadn't seen each other in a year.... Our waitress just let us take our time and was super kind! I hear about this place for Christmas. Can't wait to see it. And the mushrooms are a must try!!
google avatar

Allison P.

Yelp
Our most favorite Christmas tradition! We've been making Christmas reservations for a few years now-and it's the best. The decorations are incredible to say the least and the service is amazing. We ordered our usual steaks and sides and beverages. We also ordered a crème brûlée instead of the chess pie and it's the best I've ever had! We took our kiddo and the kids meal was also fantastic (but we wouldn't expect anything less!) To address the previous review about kids dining at Angus Barn. Here's the deal (coming from a parent): if your kid is melting down or struggles to dine out, it's 100% NOT the appropriate environment. Y'all need a ChickfilA. Angus Barn isn't cheap and it would be super irritating to have the ambiance ruined by a screaming kid. Luckily our kid loves dining out and decor, otherwise we would've gotten a babysitter.

Morgan C.

Yelp
Omgoodness! I was so impressed with everything here! The food and service to the atmosphere was incredible! Best dinner ever can not wait to come back

Yelp
I came here yesterday for an early Valentine's Day celebration and was at awe at not typical this steakhouse is. It's a very rustic feel with more lighting than a usual steakhouse which I thought was interesting. When you first enter, there's a waiting room with a bar which is unlike anything I've seen. Then we were sat on the second floor which was nice and quiet and beautiful. To start, I got the Coastal Cowboy drink which was very good and some complimentary cheese and crackers and bread and butter which were all good but not the biggest fan of the cheese. For apps, we got the crab cakes and mac n cheese which were both mind-blowingly amazing. I then got the lobster tail with mashed potato and caesar salad. The caesar salad was very good but too big of a portion and the mashed potato was the perfect texture but needed more flavor. The lobster tail was super good and filling. For dessert, I got the chocolate explosion which is a hot fudge sundae with the famous chocolate chess pie and they complimented each other super well. Our waitress was the sweetest person and was super nice and helpful throughout the whole dinner.

Yelp
Great food! The ambience is soothing! Staff always pleasant. This is the place for special occasions or just a night to chill. Desserts are always good if you have room!

Yelp
Just OK. When you pay a premium you expect above-the-line results. We've eaten here now three times with friends and we've had consistent experiences. Steaks were prepared just as we requested but they are just not great. Appetizers we've tried have been very very good. Love the Smokey old fashioned and wine selection. Service is spotty. Some good and some not good. Always Friendly and professional service but a few times we've felt a bit underwhelmed by the service. Fun atmosphere inside especially during the holidays. Expensive and not worth the premium. We prefer other spots in Raleigh for a great steak.

Yelp
One of my besties lives here in Raleigh, so when my significant other wanted to come to North Carolina for his birthday, this girl was on board! I packed my bags and called her to ask what were all the places we needed to visit while here! The Angus Barn was one! First, it's hard to get a reservation so how we pulled it off with only two weeks notice, who knows, but we got lucky! Driving into The Angus Barn was like driving into an enchanted castle. During the winter months they turn this barn into the North Pole (of course what I assume the North Pole would look like). Christmas decor is unmatched, this ambiance took my breath away. We drove up and intended to get valet service only to find a front parking. As we parked, the valet guy informed us we took a valet spot, we apologized and he said we could just stay. Super NICE! So sorry for the mishap! The entire restaurant is decorated so it was easy to check in and walk around in amazement at all the beautiful decor. Within a few minutes we were seated. Jeff was our server and he was amazing. Jeff was as sweet as a Georgia peach. He really knows how to make people feel at home. Now let's get into it! Appetizers: Complementary Cheese/Crackers - Yum! Shrimp Cocktail- Delicious Oyster's Rockefeller - Okay Ribs - Delicious Crab cake - Just Okay (I'm from the DMV hard to replicate our crab cakes) Main: Ribeye - Delicious Baked Potato - Delicious Side Salad - Delicious Desserts: Complimentary Pound Cake - Delicious This Girl HIGHLY RECOMMENDS! Thanks to my bestie for the recommendation. A must do while in Durham/Raleigh, North Carolina.

Yelp
Stuffed! First time mistakes were made. The cheese and crackers with wine/beer are extremely good. It does fill you up though. Once you order and get your soup/salad and main entree, you can forget about dessert. That's a treat all by itself. Pace yourself and enjoy your meal. This was a pleasant experience and look forward to returning again, next time with a better plan in place to enjoy the entree.

Yelp
My husband and I tried this restaurant while our kids were out of town. I have to say... it lived up to the hype. We enjoyed the experience together. The creamed spinach was delicious! Twice baked potatoes I think, gosh can't remember what they were actually called but they were so good. We both got two different ribeyes. He got the tomahawk. That was an experience! But honestly my ribeye was much better and half the price. When it came to desserts I actually didn't like the chocolate pie and actually sent it back. When I did, our waiter didn't take it off the check. I only took one bite of the whole thing and finished my husbands crème brûlée. We also saw many other tables with relish trays and had never even gotten one of those. I didn't realize that was part of the experience. While walking out we saw many kiddos eating apples and I thought that was so funny! We stopped in the store and grabbed an ornament (because I collect them). They sell many of their staples in house. Bring a sweater because it's chilly inside. It's a bit dark as well. But a very intimate setting. We enjoyed our time overall.

Yelp
This place is wild. A friend recommended that we check out the Angus Barn while on a recent trip. Just pulling up to the restaurant we felt like we had no idea where were. The property is massive and there is decor everywhere you look. It felt like we were at some combination of Wild West Disneyworld/Hallmark Christmas movie. That being said, the service was impeccable. Our waiter was personable and extremely attentive. The asparagus was cooked perfectly, and the filet was one of the best I've ever had. My one critique would be that the salmon was a tad overcooked for my taste, but it wasn't a dealbreaker. What an experience.

Yelp
We celebrated a birthday here and had a wonderful steak dinner. Service was spectacular, ambience was very detailed. The military vet we were with loved seeing the honor paid to the military. When they heard he was a Vet, they sent us home with a bottle of wine.

Yelp
The Angus Barn is a fun experience and an institution in Raleigh, especially during the holidays. We came on a whim on a Saturday night and decided to wait the 2 hours for a bar seat. We had some drinks, cheese & crackers, and enjoyed the evening. My husband had the steak sandwich and I had the ravioli with marinara. Everything was pretty good. The desserts were phenomenal. I loved the melt-in-your mouth chocolate chess pie. The vibe is fun and everyone is very friendly.

Susan S.

Yelp
Lovely, rustic atmosphere. Service was slow but attentive. Delicious cheese and crackers but never received bread or rolls with our meal as others did. Husband had the prime rib and said it was very good. I had the filet wrapped in bacon and it was awful. Cooked rare (as I requested) but tough and chewy. I've had much better filets at the chain steakhouse restaurants that were half the price. Should have sent it back but I kept thinking that once I cut further into it would get better. It didn't. Might return because of how charming the place is but I I'll order seafood instead.

Yelp
Tonight was my first experience at the Raleigh institution The Angus Barn and we were UNDERWHELMED! The lobby smelled of dirty Depends overshadowed by industrial ammonia cleaner. Up the stairs we went to "The Wild Turkey Bar". There were several available seats so we sat and waited...and waited...and waited some more while the two bartenders (Jackson and X) chatted away with a couple other staff members. Finally, I interrupted them and asked for a menu. Jackson then did come over and ask what we would like. My husband asked to sample a particular wine; the sample was put down and Jackson went back to his conversation. I waited four minutes before interrupting and asking for one of them to assist with a wine. Our dinners, mediocre at best, were brought and yet my husband still had no wine. Asked again and it was brought over. Not another check in for the entire time we were eating. We finished and waited, and waited before again asking for our check. At that point Jackson became friendly and asked if we wanted anything else and "how was everything". Exceptionally poor service until it was time for a tip to be assigned and then over solicitous. We will not bother to return. #angusbarn #raleighnc #poorservice #mediocreatbest #dontbother

Yelp
Angus Barn is Raleigh institution. If you haven't been, you have to go atleast once. Instead of bread, they start with crackers and cheese spread (yum!). We all had bacon wrapped filets and all were tender and cooked to perfection. We were celebrating a birthday, and the sever brought out a special lemon pound cake, which we took home because we ordered dessert. The table enjoyed the Chocolate Chess Pie and the Blackberry Cobbler. Service was excellent!

Yelp
Angus Barn - 5 stars on all counts. Front of the house and back of the house is a well oiled machine. They have everything down to a science and they roll out the orders with every steak expertly seasoned and cooked perfectly to temp. The house cheese and crackers while not only delicious were also such a nice change of pace over the usual loaf of bread or rolls. Wait staff were super professional and extremely helpful with everything. Out of all the steakhouses I've endured in recent years, Angus Barn certainly deserves a spot in the top 2 in the nation on all facets. Casual atmosphere although there is a required dress code to enter The Angus Barn. Practice common sense, it's an upscale restaurant not a strip club so plan your attire accordingly or prepare to take your business elsewhere.

Yelp
We went to the Angus Barn with our friends who are celebrating their 47th wedding anniversary. They have gone to the Angus Barn every year since their 1st anniversary! I have always heard about Angus Barn's burger, famously made with one whole pound of meat! It was seriously the best burger I have ever had! My husband ordered the steak sandwich with grilled onions. Both of us could only eat half of our meal! I forgot to take a photo of the complimentary relish dish of olives, pickles, celery and peppers and the tray of pub cheese and crackers. Everything was outstanding, including the service!

Yelp
Food is great. Great for the kids as well, as they have a good kids menu and even a treasure box for the kiddos. Ambience is farm and barn of course and is neat. Gun collection is very cool. I've eaten here many times and wanted to share that the past two times we've been the service was really pretty bad. It's things that are easily corrected too so I'm hoping AB can get back on the high service track soon.

Yelp
I chose this place to celebrate my friends birthday. I wanted to see what's so extravagant about this place. First time here, and my experience here was superb. Although we had reservations in advance, it was quite still very busy. We waited for a bout 10 minutes and got called to be seated. Everything we ordered was delicious. I had ordered the blackend tuna with a side of french onion soup and green beans. We ordered so much food, and not all were shown here. We had asked for to go containers since we couldn't finish it. The server we had was very kind she had boxed our food for us. The restaurant itself is astonishing from excellent service from servers, detectable dishes, and enchanting decor.

Yelp
Came here in late January to catch the Holiday decorations and they did not disappoint. I did not have reservations and just wanted to grab a few drinks and appetizers at the bar. I could not believe how popular and busy this place was. From the parking lot, dining room and bar, every seat was taken. The staff was very friendly and attentive and the few appetizers we had were very good. From looking at the steaks that people were having it did not appear to be of the high end steakhouse fancy (at least in presentation) but everyone seemed to be enjoying it. The decorations were truly beautiful and worth the visit. Definitely make reservations.

Yelp
Highly recommend this steakhouse! Reservations definitely needed. Started with the complimentary cheese, crackers, and olive platter. They were good. I split the 22 oz bone-in Ribeye (medium rare) which comes with your choice of soup/salad and potato side. We split the Caesar, ordered a stuffed baked potato and an extra side of mac and cheese. It was PLENTY of food. The steak was cooked perfectly. For dessert we ordered their legendary Chocolate chess pie in Sundae form, served with a scoop of chocolate and salted caramel ice-creams, hot fudge, whipped cream, and cherry. Huge sharing portion. Service was great. Definitely will return.

Yelp
What a place!! It looked like we were driving into "Wonderland" with the extravagant Christmas lights already up. I've never been to a restaurant with so many Christmas decorations. It was a sight for sore eyes. It reminded me of a Christmas festival but it was just a regular Friday dinner date night in Raleigh! Once we were seated, our server was amazing with the perfect sense of humor that went along quite well with our silliness! I wish I had a bigger appetite because the menu was quite appealing. We had the shrimp cocktail, ribs, and ribeye.. Excellent! We also had the oysters Rockefeller and Crab Cakes. Those two are the culprits for why The Angus Barn got 4 stars and not 5. They need to go back to the drawing board with those two. Coming from the Crab Cake Capitol of the world, they need to make a trip up north to Maryland and pay a visit to Jerry's or even Blue Dolphin and take notes. The Oysters Rockefeller were drippy and just not good. This place is great and I can't wait to come back. There is soooo much to the menu, I can easily sub the crab cake and Oysters Rockefeller for something else and be just fine!!!

Yelp
Everything was 5 star. Ambience was gorgeous, I absolutely loved where we sat and it was super romantic. Our waitress was first class and she constantly made sure we were doing good. She also gave us a cake for Valentine's Day! First, the cheese and crackers are great, the best cheese and crackers, but it's not bread. The crab cakes are amazing but felt a little too pricey. Mac and cheese was excellent melts in your mouth. The ceasers sold was great and had me excited for the main course. I got the ribeye medium rare with mashed potatoes and garlic butter, it was amazing. One of the best cuts of meat I have had. I also got the blackberry cobbler for dessert and it was a bit tart which personally I didn't LOVE but the texture was amazing and I always loved howling cow ice cream

Yelp
I had been looking forward to an early evening at the Angus Barn, especially after hearing great things about the Wild Turkey Lounge. My wife had dined here with her mother years ago while living in the area, and the experience held a bit of nostalgia. I was excited for a steak, a few cocktails, and a cigar on the patio simple pleasures that I expected a place of this reputation could deliver. The atmosphere was charming, and the bourbon list one of the main reasons I came was impressive. I started with a beer while I browsed the large menu and eventually settled on the bone-in filet. The wait was longer than expected, but I was in no rush and enjoyed reviewing their extensive whiskey offerings. When the steak arrived, it was decent not the best I've had, but certainly not the worst. Halfway through my meal, I ordered another beer and began looking forward to an old fashioned and a few pours of bourbon afterward. Unfortunately, just as I finished my steak, the bartender cleared my plate and promptly handed me the check despite the fact that I still had ¾ of my beer left and had clearly expressed continued interest in ordering more. His body language and abruptness made it clear that I was no longer welcome to linger, let alone enjoy a cigar or a pour on the patio. That moment soured what should have been a relaxing and memorable visit. I didn't make a scene I simply paid my check, canceled the rest of my plans, and ordered an Uber back to my hotel. Perhaps it's for the best his actions likely saved me $150 or more. In a place known for its Southern hospitality and legendary status, I expected more care, more attentiveness, and frankly, more interest in making guests feel welcome. I didn't come just for a steak I came for the full experience. And that part was cut short far too early.

Yelp
Classic/Iconic and never disappoints. Fortunate to walk in on a Thursday and get a table in the meat locker. Have dined in the main dinner room and wild turkey lounge is classic. Walking through the kitchen staff is kind and friendly and the kitchen is Pristine! Very clean and all the employees take great pride in their jobs and it shows. Angus Barn is classic and old school dining. Filets, sides and dessert excellent. Excellent service in the meat locker highly recommended.

Yelp
Good food, kind of a pricey steakhouse. Lots of groups come here, so it can be a bit raucous but in a good way. I like their steaks and overall the food and service are on-point, but I came here to say: if you like hamburgers and grilling out, pick up some of their frozen tenderloin patties in their "company store". The prices are reasonable for the size and quantity, they don't shrink much when cooked and they're just excellent. Throw them on a toasted Trader Joe's Brioche burger bun with your choice of toppings and culinary happiness can be achieved!

Yelp
The ambience in this restaurant was fantastic. It was rustic, yet elegant. The food was amazing. The steak was cooked perfectly and very tender. The waitress was friendly and super knowledgeable about everything.

Yelp
The Angus Barn is the gold standard of steakhouses in the Triangle. I compare every other steakhouse to here. First of all, the entire complex is straight up unique and amazing. They have huge ponds with an event area overlooking it, a pavilion, their own water tower, tons and tons of parking including valet, and of course the main venue and barn itself. Inside there are multiple areas you can dine in. The main room, the meat locker, upstairs, the Wild Turkey Saloon, and probably more that I haven't realized. When you get there and park there is a huge outside bar area and they serve complimentary snacks such as pickled peppers and olives and celery. At Christmas time they offer free gingerbread cookies. You can comfortably wait on your table in this area with your favorite drink. I highly recommend reservations, it's almost impossible to get in as a walk in. Some reservations require a deposit and you have to book them a year in advance such as eating in the kitchen! Yes, there is a dining table in the kitchen. One of my favorite areas is the "Meat Locker". It was the former meat locker that's been turned into a cigar smoking area. You can dine here and smoke. They do not take reservations for this area and they open it to walk ins at 5pm. Get there early and get in line. There are only 2 3-top tables that you can get 4-5 around if they put them together and then maybe 5 2-top tables, two of them high and 3 low. There is an outside area with a bunch more seats but I find it way too cold to eat there in the winter. And if it rains you will be subject to the elements. The meat locker itself is open but there's a heater so it's a lot warmer in there, I've been in it down to about 45 and that's about as low as I'd go out there. To get to the meat locker you have to go through the kitchen which is pretty cool. They have a humidor near the meat locker and another in the main entrance area. They also have a wine cellar with thousands of bottles of wine and some of Raleigh's millionaire and billionaires have their own shelves with their own personal collections but they won't tell you who or where but you can figure it out pretty easily. The wine cellar also has two giant private banquet halls. They do private events down there as well themed events for the public such as Titanic and Downton Abbey themed dinners...for 2025 they are priced at $195/person and usually sell out almost immediately after being announced. Upstairs they have the bourbon library near the Wild Turkey Lounge. You can see antique bourbons that are lost to history except here. Some priced at $450+ per shot...yes you read that price correctly. We are talking bottles that are nearly 100 years old and not made anymore. They also do their own private barrel picks that are more modestly priced. I almost always get a smoked old fashioned with is about $28 and it's an experience to get it. The gun library is amazing. It's a collection that you won't find even amongst avid gun collectors. Dozens of ancient, classic and heirloom pistols and rifles. There is a guide book in the library. Another great place to wait on your table. The only thing I can say about the service is that it's top notch. It's as good or better than high end places like Ruth Chris's. Servers are well trained and they love their jobs. When it's time for dessert they bring around a tray that has one of every dessert so you can see what you're getting. So many others have written about the food and it is fantastic. They give you fresh baked breads and snacks while you wait. The salads feature homemade dressings, local veggies when possible, and lots of flavor. The steaks are insanely good. They cook them perfectly, even if you get one rare they will sear the top and lock in a ton of flavor and give it great taste. My favorite steak is the tomahawk, it's around $100 and enough for at least 3 people. Even the salads are huge so if everyone got a salad you could easily split that steak with 4 people and walk away stuffed. They go over the top during Christmas with their decorations inside and outside, it's an experience that I highly recommend.

Yelp
We ended up in the Wild Turkey Lounge for dinner! What a cool vibe to this bar, you look around and see Wild Turkey Decanters everywhere! If you are a bourbon drinker this needs to be on your list! They have a huge bourbon list that includes several Antique Spirits! Go online first and do your homework before you arrive. Soooo many to choose from. I started out with their Old Fashioned, very good! FYI, the Lounge menu is different from the restaurant menu. When you sit down they give you some wonderful cheese and crackers and an olive and pickle plate! For an appetizer we got the Crab Dip, very good! I then got the Signature Steak Sandwich, it was Awesome!!! We also got the Chateaubriand for one and split it. Very Good! The service was Awesome! Waitress brought the kids a bag of toys to play with and to take home! If you live in Raleigh or just visiting, this is a place you need to try! Cheers!

Yelp
Come for the ambience during Nov-Dec, when all of the bedazzling, over-the-top Christmas decorations are up! Every inch of their ceilings are covered in lights and ornaments. For a once-a-year holiday meal or the out-of-town visitor, this is a great experience. The service was fantastic - our waitress was very friendly and attentive, and made sure our soda, lemonade, and sweet tea were always refilled before they were even empty. I've also been to their wine cellar rooms for private event group dinners, and wow, again, the experience of walking through the kitchen, through the wine cellar, to a beautifully set long table and also festively decorated room -- also amazing. The room has its own private bar as well, and the service was impeccable. Now, onto the food, which is the reason I would dock 1 to 1.5 stars: the food was ok, maybe a little disappointing for the overall cost. I ordered the surf and turf for my main course. The steak was not seasoned very well and a little over cooked, and the lobster was rubbery. The creamed spinach side was very salty. The soup of the day (cheddar and broccoli) and caesar salad were both fine. We finished with a delicious dessert combo that was probably the highlight of the meal: ice cream sundae with their award winning chess pie - definitely recommend.

Yelp
Dined at The Red Barn during a business trip to Raleigh. This place has a lot of space for various dining. We were seated upstairs. The cheese and crackers was a delightful start. The spinach salad was a typical spinach salad. All of us ordered steak the ribeye cooked Pittsburgh style was delicious. I would say that the ribeye is more than enough for 2 people. I would say the stuffed potatoes was not so good. Cold and felt like had been sitting around awhile. The creamed spinach wasn't so creamed. We were all to full to do any deserts. The atmosphere was good the service was good. Good place to dine while in the area.

Yelp
I've been traveling to Raleigh for years and listened to a friend's recommendation to dine here. My hotel was near the airport and the restaurant is about a mile away from there. I travel a lot and this is one of my favorite restaurants now. Great service, wonderful atmosphere. The people are there to please and you can tell they care about your experience. We ate in the Turkey bar...fantastic experience. Food was wonderful. Done just right. Menu has many options. The wine was fantastic. The particular room was called the Turkey room because of the culmination of the Wild Turkey collection bottles in the room. Downstairs had a firearm museum. Very unique place that has multiple personalities as you walk around. I'll go there from on when I visit Raleigh.

Yelp
This place is truly amazing and a steak eaters paradise. There is a bar in front porch, a humidor just inside, a room with many old guns and a book of descriptions for each one, and another bar upstairs. Had oysters and ribs for an appetizer. Both were really good. Started with French onion soup. It was very very cheesy. Upset my stomach some with how much cheese it had but it was so tasty! And the bread crouton on it was good too. The steaks everyone had were huge and cooked perfectly and everyone loved them. Sides of mashed potatoes and mushrooms which were delicious. The desserts shared was some chocolaty chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream and some other dessert. Honestly the dessert tray they bring out made all the desserts look good. Our server was awesome and friendly and attended to our needs very well. It is a bit pricy here but for the meal and experience it is worth it. Highly recommend.

Yelp
The Angus Barn has very nice grounds outside if you want to walk around take pictures and look at some cool things- there is even an old time kicking machine! Our waiter Mark was friendly and helpful. I ordered the prime rib really rare- it came out rare (probably the rarest cut they had. The dipping sauce (mayonnaise and horseradish) and the au jus were tasty, the mashed potatoes were creamy. We were there for two birthdays and Mark brought out a pound cake - which we took home because our group ordered dessert. (I didn't have any but they looked good) We asked for to go boxes (Mark) packages them up) except for when I wanted to take the leftover pickles and olives he handed me a box? (I didn't feel great about that- was I not supposed to take them? I believe they would just throw them out)

Yelp
It's a nice ambiance during the holidays and fun to see the overly decorated indoors for Christmas, but the food quality was mediocre. I enjoyed the pickled veggies that came at the beginning. The wedge salad was creamy, but there was way too much dressing to call it a salad. I ordered the salmon with a side of baked potatoes (the server brings sour cream, bacon, and butter). The salmon did not taste fresh. I wouldn't be surprised if it was previously frozen by the way it tasted. Our server really made the experience wonderful for me and my partner.

Yelp
Wow, this was one of the best steaks I've had in years. This place has been around 65 years and can't believe I just now got to try it. The rustic and very unique decor of this restaurant is interesting and fun by itself. They have a great selection of steaks and sides. The salad that comes with the steak could be a meal by itself . Although pricey they have a great bourbon and wine selection. You will not leave hungry. Make sure you save room for dessert. Chocolate chess pie was excellent. They have a lot homemade desserts to choose from. Service was top notch.

Yelp
I took my SO here for his birthday dinner. It was our first time and he had a hankering for beef ribs. It was decorated for the holidays. It was rustic and borderline over the top and a bit gaudy with the amount of decorations. As someone neurodivergent it was a bit overwhelming to me. For the price of the food I expected for the plating to be better. This amounted to an overpriced Cracker Barrel to me....I would venture to say the food would taste better. My meal was cold, the potatoes had a weird texture and some of the shrimp were gray. Instead of marinated shrimp they should just call this shrimp scampi. I don't eat red meat but my partner's ribs were a bit fatty but his food was smoking hot. I tried his mac and there was nothing smoked about it. His Caesar salad had no croutons and my spinach salad had very little toppings but the hot dressing was good. All in all I wouldn't recommend this place. You can get a steak anywhere for less. Their non steak options were basic. Their drink menus are longer than the food offerings. The server was nice enough but others had a better more engaging server. The manager was nice and apologized for the cold undercooked food and brought out the pound cake for my SO's birthday which was meh. The TLDR version of my review: the food here will make a turd....nothing to write home about. Go elsewhere for a better less expensive meal.

Yelp
Was in Raleigh and met a friend for dinner at the Angus Barn. It had been 30 years since I had eaten here. It was fun to come back. We ate upstairs in the bar area. It was hopping on a Monday night. The service was good for how busy they were. I had the petite prime rib. I am glad I did not get the regular size as the petite was large enough. I had a spinach salad and a baked potato. The food was very good. I had a glass of a red blend that was not memorable. If you are in Raleigh check out the Angus Barn.

Yelp
I have been eagerly awaiting to go here sometime while they still had Christmas decorations up, but reservations felt impossible since they book a year in advance (this has now changed recently to 120 days in advance). Luckily, I was able to snag a cancellation about 2 weeks beforehand and thought this place would be perfect to celebrate my anniversary with my husband. The Christmas decorations are absolutely incredible. You can see them from the highway and the place is completely decked out both in and outside. Entering the place felt very overwhelming with how many people were there & all of the rooms, but I checked in at one of the hostess stands. They said they would text me when our table was ready. We were seated about 6 minutes past our reservation time. They had crackers and cheese waiting for us at the table when we were sat. The crackers tasted like Ritz Crackers and unsalted pita chips. I didn't care for the cheese. It had the consistency of butter, but taste of cheddar. Our server took our order after about 15 minutes. I ordered the chateaubriand with a wedge salad, French fries, and asparagus. The wedge salad wasn't anything special. It tasted kind of like a bag of salad you could get at the store, but add blue cheese. I substituted balsamic vinaigrette for the dressing. The chateaubriand was decent, but surprisingly the fries were the best part of the dish. The potatoes tasted really fresh. I was slightly disappointed with the asparagus because I asked for it plain without the sauce on it and that request was not honored. My husband got the Argentinian Ribeye. The meat was very tender, but the gravy was a tad too salty. The nicest part of the meal was the whole pound cake to celebrate our anniversary. It was unexpected and a nice gesture. Service was okay. Our server was nice, but I kind of had higher expectations. I was disappointed with the wait time to take our food order, the delay of bread coming to our table (it came after my husband already finished his soup), that the food was not cooked to my asking, and our server touched part of the cake with her fingers (this is what silverware is for!!!). Overall, this place was good, but definitely not a place I'd go to all the time. I highly recommend going when their Christmas decorations are up. If you can't get a reservation, keep looking everyday for cancellations! This place is super crowded, so I personally wouldn't want to show up and wait without one.

Yelp
The ambience was AMAZING! It definitely gives all of the holiday cheer vibes! From the moment I pulled up to entering the "barn" the decor was breathtaking. We waited about 35 minutes for a seat which was no real bother. However, when the hostess came to get us she told us we were going to the "meat locker." Now, considering where we were we ALL laughed as we thought this was a joke! Boy, was the joke on us! We walked through the kitchen and there was this "hidden gem" (as they call it) on the back side of the kitchen. A small "pub style room" with TV's and round bar style tables. We were greeted by our server, Sharon who we immediately expressed our disgust to. She informed the manager who came to us to let us know we would be worked back in the waiting list but could sit there while we waited. With disgust we said "ok." About 30ish mins passed and we had not been waited or nor did we receive anyone to the table to ask us for drinks or appetizers. Here is where the problem officially began. Customer service in a restaurant of that stature should be top tier, right? Wrong! I ordered a drink. It was forgotten. I ordered an appetizer, it was forgotten. At this point I am ready to pack up and go. We receive our food and it's mediocre. Nothing to rant about. Very bland in taste. I asked the waitress to please bag it up. She does and she puts my food in the floor. I was LIVID while trying to remain calm and professional in this meat locker. By far the worst experience! I will NEVER return to this place!

Yelp
Feels like the quality has declined over years. Quality of food is more a 3, but giving a 4 star because of the service and ambiance. It is unique and a great venue. Worth checking out, but can find better quality steakhouse for the price you are paying.
