Wilde’s Review: This Los Feliz Restaurant Is the Closest Thing Los Angeles Has a to British Countryside Pub | Eater LA

"An intimate new British-inspired restaurant in Los Feliz that might be the closest thing Los Angeles has to a countryside pub on Hillhurst Avenue, with a small, wood-paneled, softly lit room and service that feels warmly rare in this city. Lifelong friends Natasha Price (chef) and Tatiana Ettensberger (wine) built it for lingering chats over “something good” to drink and food that’s filling and pleasantly low-maintenance; it already hums with neighborhood-haunt energy and offers a welcome break from ring-light-influencer vibes, the kind of place where you can sip a funky orange wine, eat headcheese, and briefly pretend you’re an ocean away. If you’re waiting at the bar (and you probably will, since waits are long and reservations limited), the Welsh rarebit is the move—filling, deeply savory, and like a smokier, messier grilled cheese, easy to split—while the Stilton and persimmons keeps things lighter. For an off-menu nod to fish and chips, battered skate arrives beautifully golden and crunchy over a creamy mint chutney; pair it with the salt-and-vinegar chips (thick-cut fries), steamy potato delights that smartly erase the need for a ramekin of malt vinegar. For a statement main, the meat pie for two packs guinea fowl and leeks into a buttery crust with rustic mushrooms alongside, and dessert should be the mercifully restrained Eton mess—whipped cream, light-as-air meringue, and bright fruit. Best for a wine-fueled catch-up where you can actually hear each other, a bit of escapism from bright-lights LA, or a romantic, unpretentious second date; note that it’s beer-and-wine only and that a new daytime café menu (pastries, sausage rolls) adds more ways to snag a seat." - Hilary Pollack

British Bistro Wilde’s Brings Bangers and Mash and Natural Wine to Los Feliz | Eater LA

"A British-tinged neighborhood bistro on a busy stretch of Hillhurst in Los Feliz, this new spot from lifelong friends Natasha Price and Tatiana Ettensberger opened October 30 in the former Thai on Hillhurst, pairing a slim British-by-way-of-California menu with an unexpected natural wine list. Welsh rarebit leads into locally sourced persimmons with Stilton; fish and chips show up as battered sea bass with mint; bangers and mash come as a mustard seed–dotted whole bratwurst; pork cracklings nestle alongside kohlrabi; and a flaky-crusted meat pie is big enough to share, with desserts like Eton mess, sticky toffee pudding, and a jam-filled Bakewell tart. The kitchen is moving toward a whole-hog program led by chef de cuisine Sarah Durning, already folding half the animal into pork cracklings, coppa di testa, house sausages, and specials like pork chops. On the wine side, Ettensberger centers smaller producers from France, Italy, Spain, and California, balancing approachable picks with “rock and roll” bottles and guiding guests with personal stories about the makers. By day (starting November 14), the tight space doubles as a bakery-cafe turning out pastries and sausage rolls with coffee from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. or until sold out; by night, candles flicker on white tablecloths beneath warm wood and eclectic art for dinner Wednesday to Saturday from 5:30 to 10 p.m. The first week drew line-out-the-door crowds, but the aim is a welcoming neighborhood spot, with Resy reservations and room for walk-ins." - Rebecca Roland

Google
(Wildes had only been open 9 nights when I went!) Despite the rain, this restaurant was already full with a waitlist and a line outside at 5:40pm. Lucky for me, the hostess told me that there was no wait for 1 and I sat at the window bar. I heard her telling latecomers that the line starts forming at 5pm - so definitely arrive early or be prepared for a wait. The rainy vibes really added to the cozy ambiance of this place and felt very appropriate for a British restaurant. I ordered: Stilton and persimmon - the cheese was so mild and nutty! I was expecting a sharp blue cheese flavor, but I think even a blue cheese hater would love this. Came with hearty bread. YUM. Kohlrabi with crackling - sort of like a vinegar coleslaw, flavors were nicely balanced with the salty fatty fried pork skin and crispy sharp veg and red onion. Next time I will ask to course this out with the fish b/c it would have been a nice compliment. Battered skate - this was the lightest, crunchiest fried fish I’ve ever had. I think the tartar sauce that the fish came with had an Indian mint chutney flavor, which was really nice. SO yummy and I’m glad I got the kohlrabi slaw because anything heavier would have been too much. Coming with a date so you can share a bunch of stuff would be ideal. Everything I tried was surprising, unique (for LA), and delicious. I’m stoked for the “hot new restaurant” hype to chill out a little so we can make this one of our go-to neighborhood restaurants, but I’m also happy to see their immediate success.

It’s a good night out. The high point is the vibe. Wonderfully cool and intelligent. The line if you don’t have a res is enjoyable; the conversation is elevated and the crowd is friendly. The food is great. We had a res so we’re seated immediately as if a reservation still means something. They were so kind when I reached out for the reservation. Truly individual service. I smiled when I ate because it took me back to my student days in London.

Google
Wow! Wilde’s is one of a kind and exceptional. From the service, to the atmosphere, to the food—every part of our experience felt like being comfortably nestled in someone’s home for a private meal. The wine selection is unique and thoughtful as well. Nothing here is your standard affair. MUST ORDERS: -stilton & persimmon -chicory salad -battered fish -bangers & mash -sea-salt and vinegar chips -all deserts! Can’t wait to return and experience more of the menu and vibes. (NOTE: be prepared to embrace the wait; have some snacks and wine. Unless you can snag a reservation!)

I only had the baked goods here, but enjoyed all 3 that I ate. The scone with butter and jam was DELISH. Also tried the quiche. It had a fantastic buttery flaky crust. I zapped it in the microwave before eating and recommend heating it up a bit. Also tried the spiced carrot tea cake and that was delicious as well. Looking forward to trying dinner here sometime too.

Google
So this is the best new restaurant in Los Angeles. I went with four friends to one of their first services and, wow, spectac. Welsh Rarebit? I think I'll have two. The crumbed duck, also spectac with delicious pickled carrots. The timing of all the food was impeccable. Our server, Maddie, was a knowledgeable delight. The wine was delicious. We took our time. We savored. The sticky toffee pudding changed my life. The kind of restaurant LA needs.

Google
Every single thing we had here was beautiful and so so tasty. Not one note. We went for dinner and the next day to their first morning of doing pastries and coffee. Even the coffee was stellar. The people in the kitchen know what’s up, and the front of house make you feel cozy and special the whole time. i <3 wilde’s

Google
Bangers and mash, side of greens (?!), crudo, sticky toffee pudding all gave me goosebumps. This is the most special restaurant in LA right now - cozy, special-feeling, genuinely delicious. I didn’t know how much I wanted a white tablecloth. I can’t wait to go to Wilde’s for the rest of my life. Welcome to the neighborhood 💚

Yelp
Exciting, unique menu and really warm service. Inviting dining room too. Had the "bangers & mash", so good, and the sticky toffee pudding, delicious!

Yelp
You MUST go to Wilde's and try EVERYTHING! Was lucky enough to go with a group of friends during their opening weekend and we all had the best time. The interior is cozy, chic, and tastefully decorated. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The menu is precise and delicious. We tried the Welsh rarebit, chicory salad, bangers & mash, duck breast & winter squash, meat pie for two, battered skate, greens, salt & vinegar chips, eton mess, and stick toffee pudding. Loved everything we had! I was just in England and had an amazing sticky toffee pudding at a local pub and Wilde's absolutely rivaled it.

Yelp
- Locale Destination - It's on Hilllhurst Ave and Russel Ave in Los Feliz. Restaurants around here all look alike but it's easy to spot. Ambiance: casual but nice bistro like atmosphere, dim, simple, loud but ok Service: this is the biggest issue for me. (I usually don't care about service, though I'm a restaurant consultant - so long as I get fed tasty food in a timely manner). 1) they don't take reservations?!: First come, first serve?! You need to come and put down your names and wait 30 min-2 hrs. They even said putting down the names wouldn't even guarantee me to get served. I understand they just opened and had full of customers already non stop. For the $$$ price point, I think it's problematic for both customers and the restaurant in the long run. Food is so tasty, so I want you to succeed. 2) service level is sadly quite low, especially for the $$$ price point. I did mind the rough service (one of them ran into me, hit my foot yet no apology, tried to serve me the plate right in front of my face, about $100 wine bottle wasn't opened in front of us (though we start seeing it more lately), food delivery was too slow (long wait) cuz they didn't seem to check tables enough etc.). Food quality was so high but even I expect the bottom line basic. Most people do care about service unlike me, so you should improve it. Actually one of the kitchen staff helped the floor - she was very nice. Menu: tapas like small dishes. Fusions from British, Mexican to French dishes with their own unique takes. Quite fun. Wine menu is like that. Price: We ordered many dishes and a bottle wine. +$150 each. Taste and cooking levels are quite high! Parking: street - Gluttony Expedition - Grilled cheese: Bomb. The melting cheese got a meaty yet great flavor! Bread wasn't too soft and crispy - excellent dish! Deep Fried pork dish: pork was seasoned very well, rich but flavorful. The lemon and the sauce cut the heaviness and enhanced the overall quality. Batter was so crispy. Surprisingly great dish! chicharron & jicama salad: meaty chicharron and light jicama go well together. Dressing was light, unique and refreshing. Great. Steelhead carpaccio: good flavors, but a bit too much oil for me. Compared to other dishes, this was a bit weak for me. Chips: one of the best French fries I've ever had (from the fresh potato), though I'm so finicky on French fries. So impressive. Size was perfect, not too skinny and wide. Outside was crispy yet moist inside. That's hard to do it with fresh potato. That's why i generally prefer frozen potatoes to fresh ones. Flavors and texture were unreal. It really showed how high the kitchen level was. You must try it. Fried fish: don't be fooled by typical impression of fish & chips. Fish was meaty, cooked and seasoned perfectly. Batter was so light and crispy but not greasy. I'm not a fan of peppermints, but the fresh mints enhanced the sauce. Simple yet so sophisticated dish. Bravo! Duck: I'm a big fan of duck, so quite tough on this. Duck was cooked well and tender, but I prefer slightly more pink. It was so rich as if I ate with foie gras. Some people might think it was too gamey. It looked French style, yet the sauce was a lot lighter with a touch of vinegar than the one at French bistro. Their own twist to surprise us. For duck, I slightly prefer at Pasjoli in Santa Monica. I'd try other dishes next time. Taffy dessert: texture was quite unique, crumpled but moist at the same time. Flavor was nice but a bit too sweet for me. Espresso: this was too acidic for me. I've tested hundreds of coffee shops, so do understand coffee. Espresso you get in Italy and France were more solid and smooth than this. They use expensive Italian coffee machine, but you should avoid it. - Conqueror's Deduction - I go to restaurants for tasty food, not for service, not for ambience. Service needs improvement, but the food was very creative, unique, fun and solid. The cooking level was very high. You can get this level in San Francisco, but not so much in LA easily. Quite impressive food quality - food only is 4.5 stars! I just don't want to wait that long for food. Definitely I'll go back for the great food!

Yelp
While in Los Feliz, folks recommended Wilde's to us ans we are SO glad they did! What an amazing little spot. We arrived in time for kind of brunch and ordered a number of items, including the Bacon But (bacon sandwich on housemade onion roll), a couple quiches, and a few scones. Every item was just plain delectable. Honestly, one of the best scones I have ever had. The decor is not fancy, but its comfortable and there are plenty of tables. The staff was very friendly and we got a quick visit from one of the talented pastry chefs! This place is fantastic!

Yelp
Loved the cheesy bread and bitter salad! The fish and chips were great and the mint sauce was great! Wanted to try the Eton Mess which looked delicious but they ran out.

Yelp
Knowing this is a popular joint and that it opens at 5:30, we were timely and had our names in at 5:36. We were seated at 8:50 though and had time for a few stops in between. We started at casa Leo. Highly recommend the manchengo and the crudo. The orange wine was as good as the ones they offer at lolo. At little doms we just had an Americano cocktail and a Lambrusco (no photo taken) At all time we had the table salad (sounds basic but v satisfying) the cowboy beans (delicious, high in protein), and the Japanese potatoes. Finally at wildes 3 hours and 14 minutes later, we started with the champagne of beers then ordered the crumbed rilette, battered skate & mint, duck breast, toffee pudding, an espresso and a cup of tea. The skate and mint was worth waiting for. They were out of half the menu but they assured us it had something to do with the night before a holiday. The space is cozy. The staff is kind.

Yelp
As a Brit living in LA, I was genuinely hoping for something solid here, but the food was painfully average. The fish especially just didn't hit the mark -- lacking flavor, freshness, and any real character. For a spot with this much hype, I walked out disappointed. LA has too many great options to settle for a meal that feels this flat.

Yelp
Ambiance is cozy and warm. The food was great. Menu was limited but stand outs are definitely the welsh rarebit and duck. Definitely the fish and chips can be a shared dish so if you are a party of two I would opt for the meat pie instead of the fish and chips. Christian our server was great

Natasha R.

Yelp
Such a fantastic dinner and experience. We ordered the entire menu and were not disappointed. The ambience had us feeling like we were part of a family gathering, but it was not overcrowded - a friendly and generous atmosphere. The plating, the timing of courses, all parts of the presentation were lovely, and nothing too imposing. The dishes themselves were understated and spectacular, reflective of the cool but inviting neighborhood spot. Do yourself a favor and make sure you order the meat pie. Truly unbelievably good.

Yelp
This place is so darn good! Very unique menu where every plate was a knockout and perfectly executed. Who knew some of these British dishes could be that good. The room has a great casual but elevated and warm vibe. Excellent service and a good wine list. Word is already out, so there was a decently long wait for a table. Just put your name in and head to the the bar across the street for cocktails and some excellent wings while you wait for the call. This is a great addition to Los Feliz and LA in general.

Steven R.

Yelp
Well rewarded for my time spent in traffic coming from the west side. Comfort food that slots right in with a warm, cozy atmosphere. Best sausage I've ever had. Chicory salad so light and fresh. Kampachi perfectly light and flavorful. And who knew I liked natural wines. I wish Wilde was closer but then I'd be 6,000 lbs bc I'd be eating that sticky toffee pudding and vinegar chips every day!

Suzy P.

Yelp
What a gem in the heart of Los Feliz! This new spot is such a great addition to the neighborhood -- a perfect blend of cozy & modern, - and full of good vibes. The food was fantastic -- a creative mix of traditional British dishes with a fresh, farm-to-table California twist - super flavorful, perfect for sharing and with lots of care in every dish. Great wine list too -- good selection and price point! Staff were super friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do. It's the kind of place that makes you want to linger over one more glass and order "just one more plate." Can't wait to come back -- Los Feliz needed a spot like this!

Hannah F.

Yelp
Incredible addition to the neighborhood! Wonderful flavors, a really great vibe. Have had dinner and it was DELICIOUS and then stopped in the morning for pastries-- YUM!!! The line is out the door for a reason!

Lee K.

Yelp
I haven't had their dinner yet, which I am looking forward to. but the morning to go order wasn't the best. The sausage roll was extremely greasy, dripping in grease, and at room temperature. Grease and room temperature not the best on the digestion. The cappuccino took over 20 minutes, and wasn't hot. They are working out their kinks, so hopefully it'll get smoother.

Carson C.

Yelp
Wildes is a truly special place! It has a warm and cozy atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. The service is impeccable and the servers are so knowledgeable about the list of wines, all the bottles I tried were so tasty and paired well with the amazing food. SPEAKING OF THE FOOD! The menu is full of incredible dishes that feel comforting and familiar but also fresh and unique. Don't leave without ordering the kohlrabi salad and the battered skate wing. 10/10 experience!

Tiler W.

Yelp
The atmosphere is so inviting and well curated... truly out of this world. This is matched by the top tier food that all flows together so perfectly. Building up to a series of desserts that I'm still thinking about days after leaving. And if it was even a question, the service was amazing and timely. Can't wait to go back
