13 Hidden Spots to Eat and Drink in Portland | Eater Portland

"The downtown outpost of Wildfang, the Portland-born women’s apparel company, has a fun little secret: Tucked inside the store is a blink-and-you-miss-it adorable little bar serving beer and wine. While they don’t serve food, the sales associates encourage shoppers to bring food from the nearby food carts to the bar to enjoy with their drinks." - Kara Stokes

Worst customer service I’ve experienced in a long time at a local retail company. I order one of their Wild Feminist tee shirts because of the horrible political climate going on in our country these days. I needed it for a trip I was going on, so I paid $30 for EXPRESS OVERNIGHT SHIPPING. It was supposed to arrived on Friday, February 28th. The package got delayed and sat in Oakland CA for 2 days. The packages didn’t get delivered until March 3rd! I contacted FedEx and asked them to refund me the $30. FedEx told me there was nothing they could do and I needed to contact WildFang for a shipping refund. I emailed WildFang, explained the situation, and asked to be refunded since the service I paid for I did not receive. They did NOT respond to my email. Then when I got the item this evening after getting home from my trip, it was covered in brown stains all inside the tee that is visible on the outside of the tee. So not only did I completely waste $30 on overnight express shipping, didn’t have the tee for the trip I went on, and it’s also covered in brown stains. I’ve tried to get the stains out with stain remover and the stains are not coming out. This was my first purchase and will be my last. Never shopping here again. Worst experience ever.

Walked in right when they opened this morning and got great service. Liked my jumpsuit so much that I wore it out of the store and have literally been getting compliments from strangers on the street all day today. Great shop and so happy I had the chance to try on the clothes in person rather than order online!

It started with the basic coverall jumpsuit in black and has blossomed to 5 of those is different colors, 3 suits, wide leg geo print pants, 3 button ups, a corset (that I wear as a cummerbund)… yes I’m in love. Their inclusive designs fit every human’s lifestyle and their gender neutral options allow the person wearing it to be the star! I’m a middle-aged, female that prefers classic tailoring that isn’t boring. Wildfang is exactly that for me.

Although I didn’t buy the outfit I tried on, I really loved this place (and the outfit)! The vibe, aesthetic, and quote below made me feel comfortable in the store. Their goal of inclusivity and environmental sustainability is so admirable. I would go back 10/10!

One of the most fashionable clothing shop in Portland! I have been walking by the store lately to get to work nearby and I always see very colorful and sharp looking clothes. One day I decided to go in during my lunch and see for myself what Wild Fang had to offer. It was very clean and the staff was friendly. Lauren was the one that greeted me and I told her I was on the hunt for a nice pair of overalls. She showed me around the store and informed me of all the choices and that a sale was going on. I am trying to dress a bit nicer but I didn't know where to start and Lauren was a big help. Thanks Lauren! I ultimately went with a nice pair of black coveralls and since Wild Fang was participating in the Shop Small, Win Big event, I got entered into a raffle as well. Score! I love seeing stores getting involve with the community and participating in programs that encourage people to shop local. Needless to say I am very happy with my purchase and will be returning to get more items!

Yelp
I've seen ads for Wildfang online, but never realized we have one of their only two stores in the world right here in Portland! After I ordered overalls that were slightly too large, I did an in-store return. The staff was very helpful, even though the item I wanted to exchange for wasn't in stock, they facilitated the exchange and honored the original price. A friend that came with me tried on some items and their help for people in dressing rooms is above and beyond. The brand aims to be inclusive (size, gender, race, pay) and sustainable. The clothing isn't cheap but it's high quality and stylish.

Yelp
Loved loved loved this store ! I was visiting Portland and a family member took me there. The employees were incredibly helpful and friendly. The quality of the clothing is great and I am definitely a wildfang fan now. I look forward to checking out my local LA location.

Yelp
Wanted to love this store after seeing them on Instagram, but the cuts on the pants, tops and jackets don't work for me. Everything has a very "boxy" form and loose pants with a low waist. I so wanted the coveralls, that is what brought me into the store, but I would have to have them tailored. I'm definitely curvy so high waisted pants and form fitting tops are more flattering; boxy makes me look twice the size. I've visited several times, even bringing friends. Everyone liked the fun accessories and they have cool sneakers. One of my friends who has what she calls a "square" shape found jeans that fit her perfectly. They have lots of t-shirts emblazoned with slogans, mostly feminist, but I'm not one to wear slogans or wording on my clothing. It would really have to speak to me strongly, like a sweater I bought in Palm Springs that simply said, "sunny." They had lots of button up shirts in conservative stripes and others with floral or patterned prints. I have perused their online store and they have a mock turtle neck and a sweater I really like, but based in my shape and the cut of their clothing, I have to try things on. So I have hesitated to purchase anything as I don't want the hassle of returning. Everyone working there was helpful and friendly. Will definitely give them another try. Doesn't hurt to look around and it's fun to be pleasantly surprised if I end of finding something.

Yelp
I ordered a beautiful jumpsuit online in what is usually my size. When it arrived, I was sorely disappointed that the jumpsuit was too big everywhere and puckered in the seat. There was no indication that the sale was "final" until I received my receipt. And thusly, returns nor exchanges are accepted. Be aware. I lost a lot of money on a product that is not as it was described.

Cristian M.

Yelp
Bought a coverall on their site. They have a weird policy that you can't exchange items if they don't fit right if they're on sale. I didn't want to return it just change for a size that fits, they don't really care about the customers. Once you give them your money, they'll take it and look the other way. Horrible policy for a company that promotes "proper fit" clothes

Yelp
My pillows missing so I thought I'd mansplain some fashion to ya'll..... off the cuff. The first belt loops went onto pants in 1921. This was because of refrigeration and how the shape of people's bodies changed, due to more available nutrition. The zipper went into a dress first in 1935. Elsa Schiaparelli(favorite female designer). This didn't make it to the states until 1937. Pierre Balmain actually did New Look a couple of years before Christian Dior. Dior was just a better dress maker. Yves Saint Laurent was the first fashion designer to use black models and bring pink and orange to the runway(1966). Rudi Gernreich invented the topless bathing suit. World War II invented the two piece bathing suit. Drag queens should always add two inches to their chest or waist measurements because of their shoulders. You invented so many beautiful feminists and I really enjoy your care package campaign right now! I wanna see some more jewelry out of you guys! Tell Ms. Sparkles not to file a restraining order against me. I'm trying to print this next zine and I wanna make sure you have a couple copies. Love 'Bert.

Yelp
We finally went to wildfang and I finally found coveralls that fit me. Hands down to wildfang. For making clothes that fit feminine but look masculine. I have been looking forever for a pair. We also got some outfits for My partner and hands down the best looked dressed she had ever looked. They are alittle pricey but so well well worth it. Thank you @wearewildfang for making an outfit that fit my 4 11' frame. You guys have a long term customer and will being getting another pair before I leave. And who ever female associate you had there yesterday hands down the best help ever.

Yelp
Wildfang offers gender neutral clothing of the highest quality, with styles ranging from eclectic to business casual. Oh, and they're INCREDIBLY size inclusive! I loved every moment that my partner and I got to spend in their downtown PDX location, especially the assistance of the two associates that were on shift. They were immensely helpful, kind, and encouraging, and they really made us feel relaxed and welcome. Which, for two thicc lesbians visiting from out of state, made for a happy and validating experience. Thanks Wildfang PDX!

Yelp
Very cool store. They had some great feminist t-shirts. The customer service was ok. She did not seem too terribly interested in us, so whatever. We browsed. Probably nothing I needed here, but it was fun to look.

Yelp
I brought my teens here to pick out some clothes. They were both very shy at first but Tate connected with one of them and helped them find some things to try on and it was so great! Tate helped us through our whole experience and was an absolute gem. Great friendly attitude and was amazing at helping the kids feel comfortable. I love everything this brand stands for and we experienced an extension of that on our visit. The clothes are also unique and excellent quality. We will definitely be visiting again.

Yelp
My partner, son, and I went in while we were visiting Portland in the beginning of March. What a wonderful shopping experience!!!!! First of all, we adored the staff. They were friendly, personable, and helpful. We felt comfortable roaming around and asking questions. They didn't pressure us to buy anything, but were there to help if needed! I love that. I was obsessed with the can(s) of beer from the bar that we so thoroughly enjoyed while shopping! It was the Cucumber Melon beer (I forget the name of it now!) I've recommended this store to many people in Boston who are looking for gender ambiguous, neutral, or tomboy attire. The button down shirts are sexy and the hooded sweatshirts are so comfortable. Oh, and to top it all off, we found an adorable outfit for the baby. Thank you all for such an awesome experience. Sending love from Boston! -Katie, Angela, and Ellington

Yelp
Loved this shop! Found black pointy oxfords for $65 leather, and gorgeous Nike suede hi tops (which were sold out in my size :( Loved the wild feminist theme! Nice staff, cool styles. Found the beer bar rather odd but the vibe in there was cool. Will bookmark for next trip!

Yelp
A Portland gem. I'd been following Wild Fang on instagram for forever and then some but was so happy when we made a special stop to see the storefront while in Portland. I finally purchased one of their amazing t-shirts and was pleasantly surprised to see that they sell several other minimalist beautiful brands in store. They even have a little bar inside, which we definitely wanted to sit at all day! The staff was helpful, if not a bit chaotic, but I won't mark them down for it. We'll be back next time we are in town!

Yelp
The first time I went to Wildfang a friend had invited me to an event. It was fantastic but I avoided writing a review because I hadn't really experienced the store. Today I came back for help finding feminist bridesmaids gifts and the person at the counter was so great, they just made my day. A complete delight to work with and totally helped me with suggestions. Not at all like so many other boutiques where an overly made-up and underpaid burned-out salesperson rolls their eyes at you until you leave in a cloud of shame. I'd love to come back to try on some of the clothes, but definitely keep in mind that this is a great spot for cool small gift finds. I particularly love the pronoun pins!

Rachel S.

Yelp
Another update: Their return process is extremely frustrating and Wildfang never appears to want to honor returns. I'm not sure why I made the mistake of ordering with them after my last experience.

Sierra S.

Yelp
I have purchased many items from this shop and have gotten to know lots of employees. The stuff is kinda problematic because they preach equality etc, but they couldn't answer me where they source their fabric and who sews it. On top of that I noticed some employees that "modeled" for them a few times. I asked one of them how that was and they said they don't get paid any different for modeling then working in the store.... this is wrong. If you're too cheap to hire actual models then don't even try.... or model yourself. These people aren't models and they aren't even getting paid like them. Really wrong.

Yelp
This store is so awesome. Eric was so helpful and kind to me and I really appreciated his help as I was going in to find a suit for a funeral it was not a happy situation for me but he made it easy and effortless. Such a great experience and I will be back!

Yelp
Fantastic selection and service. I am so happy I was able to visit and try stuff on in the store. Found a bunch of great shirts. With no sales tax, it makes it even better. Visited both locations in PDX and loved both. Will be keeping an eye for more styles on the IG account!
google avatar

Shayla N.

Yelp
So buying a $50 shirt makes you a feminist? What have you actively done for feminism and women as a whole today? Also their "gender fluid" campaign used a model that who doesn't identify as gender fluid or non binary, it isn't hard to find a non-cis gender model. It's freaking Portland. Also the staff is consistently rude when I come in so there's that. Stop finding your "mood music" and maybe greet me when I come in for starters. K thanks bye

Yelp
If you like clothes and friendly folks this place is for you. Plus it's right on the streetcar line!

Yelp
Great customer service, a nice selection of items & sizes. Fair prices. An all around fantastic experience shopping here. The perfect place to find a gift for your favorite Wild Feminist.

Yelp
Love this store, beautifully designed, and great customer service. They have a fun selection of tee shirts and hoodies with strong feminist messages. Fun store

Yelp
Awesome tomboy-style clothing! Original finds and a beer bar! Very expensive but also worth it because you'll end up w a totally unique outfit!
google avatar

Valerie J.

Yelp
There is a lil' bar inside where you can drink canned wine! I was sorely tempted, but instead gawked and was humored by the friendly staff. A good Portland stop.

Annelisa W.

Yelp
Wildfang is awesome! Definitely one of my favorite stores in Portland! It's quite expensive so I have to hold back when I go there. The women that work there are incredible! They are so friendly and welcoming. I love the positivity and inclusivity of the store. Everyone there really seems to care a lot about making you feel welcome. One of my favorite places!
google avatar

Meagan D.

Yelp
My all-time favorite store ever. If you're LGBT+, an ally, a feminist, or just a cool person with great style, there is something here for you. Also, Page was super friendly and awesome.

Yelp
I had a great experience at Wildfang today! Taylor, our salesperson helped us find everything we needed (and things we didn't know we needed!). She went above and beyond, and even found a shirt in the size we needed and steamed it impeccably! We will definitely be back very soon.

Rachel U.

Yelp
When I walk into this store, I expect it to be a safe space for women. That's Wildfang's entire marketing scheme, it's all they sell themselves on - that they are a space FOR WOMEN, and for women to be comfortable, to dress how they choose to dress, to be empowered and themselves. And I understand that the manager cannot discriminate in hiring based on gender, but when I walk in and only see a male employee, and the ONLY employee there at that time, I am going to walk away. Some women (like myself) see spaces like Wildfang markets themselves to be and finally feel that we can go there and finally let out a breath. I don't feel comfortable around men, and so I never, ever go shopping, which is why I went to Wildfang, thinking I'd be okay there. If they want to have a male employee, fine, but don't market your brand/store on a lie to get more women into your store.
google avatar

Rachel F.

Yelp
Great selection. Interesting brands. I bought men's pants that were amazing. Not your average stuff and very worth checking out. Staff is awesome
google avatar

Emee P.

Yelp
I went in expecting it to be another overpriced downtown boutique with nothing the average Portlander could actually wear and was very pleasantly surprised. Cute, stylish warm coats for under $150, and lots of great denim, printed trousers, and flannel. The theme is tomboy-ish clothing, so keep that in mind, there won't be a bunch of dresses in here, but if you are looking to level up your casual-wear game, this is a perfect place. Fun gifts, postcards, and stocking stuffers too, and of course plenty of things for the men. Four stars for selection and one more because the staff were friendly and not snobby.

Ashley L.

Yelp
Always a treat to stop in for something new. Love the cuts, I'm taller and usually have problems finding tops that fit well, but never have that problem here. Plus the staff is super friendly and helpful, if they don't have the item you want in your size at that exact moment they have always gone above and beyond to find it & get it to me.
