On the Grid : Peace Coffee

"When Peace Coffee opened a few years ago in the Longfellow neighborhood, it provided a super-accessible and much needed space for conversation, community gathering, and a great cup of organic, fair-trade coffee. The space has a laid back nouveau-hippie vibe and plenty of assorted seating along the mural-covered outer walls and a huge table made from a beautiful lacquered cross-section of a tree. There is also a bright education room where patrons can gather for coffee classes or local meet-ups. Peace Coffee headquarters is just a mile or so away, making new batch delivery a breeze -- as cyclists deliver new shipments by bike rather than by car." - Paper Bicycle

What a gem - good coffee, great mission. Service was fantastic, atmosphere was super cool, and I just love what they're doing to help unsheltered teens to develop employable skills and redirect their lives towards success and stability. Really amazing place that will be a place I return every time I'm in town.

Meeting someone at Wildflyer in SE Minneapolis and I live this coffee shop. It’s spacious yet warm. I had a cup of tea and gluten free glazed donut. The donut was probably made from coconut flour and yummy. The tea was delicious.

Google
Nice coffee shop with a great mission! Decent coffee drinks and the layout of the shop is nice, plus there is some good outdoor seating as well.

I don’t say this lightly, but this was the best coffee I’ve ever had in the Twin Cities. Possible ever. I tried the Longfellow latte and it was incredible— very rich with a strong espresso and cinnamon flavor. I accidentally forgot to order it iced, but the hot version was definitely the way to go. We also got an Arnie Palmer that was pretty good! The inside was big with lots of different nooks and tables. It was quiet and perfect for working on a laptop. The wifi worked perfectly and there’s even a few tables outside if you want fresh air. We went on a Tuesday morning and there was plenty of seating left. The staff were really nice and the mission of the shop is amazing like others have said. Everything about this coffee shop was great, down to the easy parking out front. It’s a must try in Longfellow!!

Google
I went for the first time to Wildflyer, and was delighted to learn about their mission to end youth homelessness! I had no idea! Anyway I got tea that was perfectly brewed, toast with hummus and kimchi that very much exceeded my expectations, and coffee cake I very much enjoyed. The layout of the shop is kinda weird in my opinion but fine. The staff are all wonderful

Google
I’m glad to have this coffee shop (with a wonderful mission) in the neighborhood. I’ve visited two days in a row to order an iced Monarch Latte (flavored with orange blossom…. omg. A unique and delicious combo). The toasts menu is also lovely. I enjoyed my cucumber and cream cheese bagel. Be back soon!

Google
I have gone here twice now and both times were a great experience! The coffee, and pastries are delicious and they have a bunch of fun and unique options! The service and atmosphere are great I will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
Accidentally came here thinking this was the place a friend told me about. It's not. My drink was OK but for $15 for 2 drinks...I *need* to love it. I ordered an iced Longfellow...it is 100% comparable to an iced miel anywhere else. My husband ordered the iced Highlander...he threw away the rest of his coffee so...that's his review "not worth the calories" Staff was super friendly to me, music was a bit loud and inconsistent throughout the hour we were there. I gave it 3 stars because on a busy Saturday, there were still a few open tables. I like to be able to sit down if I pay for a drink somewhere, so that checked some boxes at least! Again, I wanted to love it more than I did!

Yelp
Amazing place with an amazing mission. I got the mulled cranberry cider and it was delicious! Also love the vibes - very open place with lots of seating and ample outlets to charge your electronics. Staff is also very friendly! I truly love their mission to help end youth homelessness. They have an amazing mission! Also, free street parking!

Yelp
Sweet little nonprofit coffee shop and cafe in South Minneapolis with FANTASTIC coffee! We stopped here on our way to Minnehaha falls. I got the Longfellow Latte, a tribute to the well known South Minneapolis neighborhood. It's a brown butter caramel latte, and it was Absolutely delicious. Even better than their coffee is their employment training program that hires youth experiencing homelessness. We love a local shop that gives love and support back into our city.

Yelp
I don't say this lightly, but this was the best coffee I've had in the Twin Cities. Possible out of anywhere. Yelp
I love the atmosphere and the shop's overall mission; however, I was disappointed by the food and drink quality. I ordered the coffee cake and the iced chai. The coffee cake was rather stale and dense, although the flavor was great. The chai tasted soapy.

Yelp
Hands down the BEST thing about Wildflyer Coffee is their mission! Wildflyer is a nonprofit supporting unhoused youth by providing mental health services, life skills classes, employment coaching, and of course employment opportunities at the coffee shop! As for the actual coffee and the coffee shop it's a great spot! Plenty of space and tables to hang out. They have house blends and sell all the coffee shop standards plus seasonal drinks! I love that because not every coffee shop goes into the seasonal stuff which can make it difficult to support local when you have a sugar-y craving! There's not a large density of coffee shops in this area so it'll always be a go-to for me in Downtown Longfellow! I've also always been able to find street parking right outside!

Yelp
Great coffee with a great mission Their croissant was lovely and the Longfellow was perfectly made A very chill and welcoming vibe

Yelp
I love restaurants with a mission! I want to use my money to support small businesses and nonprofits when I can, which was part of the reason that I was so excited when Wildflyer Coffee opened. As a Social Worker who works within the field of youth who are experiencing homelessness and sexual exploitation, I'm so thrilled to see opportunities like Wildflyer for them. Simply "getting a job" is rarely enough to lift someone out of homelessness. However, professional development skills and case management services on top of a paycheck is a different kind of solution of the crisis of youth homelessness. And not only is the mission amazing, the coffee and breakfast treats are actually GOOD! I'm not choking down coffee that I dislike, because I know that it is going to a good cause. It's a win-win. Great coffee. Great cause.

Yelp
While I'm not a coffee snob by any means, I do know when I have a truly bad cup of coffee. That said, I have liked everything that I have ordered at Wildflyer, and their prices are not overly expensive so it works with my tiny little pocketbook. Instead of talking about the coffee (and matcha!) I love Wildflyer for a number of other reasons. First off, I have mostly come here on Monday mornings/afternoons in order to do personal work (and sometimes chat with friends). They have always been quiet enough that I can focus and also don't feel bad taking up space for a couple hours (if a place gets full, I leave to make space). That's not to say they're not popular, but people are coming and going and also to-go-ing. Secondly, the music has always been really good. Music in spaces can be really overstimulating for me, but they have never had anything too loud and overwhelming. One day it was just hit after hit (for me)--I got in a serious flow with their playlist. I wanted to thank whoever chose it! Lastly but most important, I feel good supporting a place that is so mission-driven. If this review is the first you're reading about it, here is their mission in their words: "To create employment opportunities for youth experiencing homelessness and housing instability through the cultivation of life skills and personal empowerment." If you visit you can see their "syllabus" and grad stats on one of the walls. I also appreciate this value they express: "The pressure to 'do it all' across non-profit work harms program participants who already have experienced harm from poor systems and organizations. At Wildflyer, we have an anti-burnout work style..." I loved coming to this spot when it was Peace Coffee, and Wildflyer has proven themselves to be a more-than-worthy heir to this caffeinated space.

Yelp
#15 in my TWIN CITIES COFFEE SHOP SERIES Wildflyer is a nonprofit coffee company dedicated to end youth homelessness. They provide jobs to youth experiencing homeless so they can empower themselves, build their skills, and help them find their footing. Because of their mission, I've have been absolutely been dying to try this place! Knowing your money is supporting a small, local business, with a great mission makes it all the more meaningful. Not only do they have a fantastic mission, but they have DELICIOUS drinks! Definitely a top spot on my coffee list so far! I got the seasonal berry mocha w/ oat milk ($6) and it was divine! Super rich mocha flavor with the perfect balance of bitter and sweet. Both my friends loved their drinks too. One of them said it was their favorite coffee place they have tried in the Twin Cities! The vibes are immaculate. They have a super spacious interior with plenty of seating and great lighting. Definitely a good place to get some work done or chat with friends. I will definitely be coming back! :)

Yelp
If you're in Minneapolis, Wildflyer Coffee *is* the Coffee shop that you need in your life. The coffee shop is spacious, the baristas are warm/ mellow/ thoughtful in all the little details that make your food and/ or drink experience both high quality and one of a kind. And, the biggest thing - which gave my heart all the warm and fuzzies - is the mission behind the coffee shop. It's part of a non-profit that professionally equips, supplies, and trains youth that are at risk of housing insecurity. So when you dine here, you're supporting an awesome cause as well! The one regret I have is that I wasn't able to stay longer. I had a lovely Jade Cloud tea (loose leaf), and wanted to try their vegan kimchi toast (or one of their many vegan food items) but I was pinched for time. I guess that gives me another reason to return! All I can say is well done, Wildflyer! 10/10!

Yelp
Great venue with lots of windows to let the light in. I tried their chai with oat milk and it was awesome. Friendly service at the counter and lots of good energy. Will definitely be coming back and glad to have found this neighborhood gem!

Yelp
I loved Wildflyer Coffee! I should note that I am vegan and I only like iced matcha lattes. With that being said, I loved that Wildflyer had alternative milks (as every coffee shop should) and they had asked me about what level of sweetness I would like with giving options for sweetener. I ordered an ice matcha latte with oat milk and lavender syrup with medium amount of sweetness. The matcha I received was well mixed and the matcha lacked any bitterness. I would definitely go back as I loved taking pictures with my tripod both outside and inside and not to mention that their mission as a company is to end youth homelessness.

Yelp
First off, the mission statement of this coffeeshop (provide job stability and supporting youth experiencing homelessness) already makes it a worthwhile place to buy a cup of coffee and support a local business. In addition to that, this place is just an overall solid coffeeshop. There is a decent drink selection that are well made. I have had both their London Fog and their Cafe Miel and both were excellent drinks. The Cafe Miel especially had for me the perfect balance of honey sweetness and the slight bitterness of coffee with a subtle and delightful sprinkling of cinnamon. There is also plenty of tables and places to work in the main coffeeshop and side room area, as well as decent access to outlets for most of the table areas. The place is busy but not crowded, and I have not had an issue finding a free table or place to work. Has average coffee-making and conversation background noise that is not too noisy to work but also makes it not awkward to have conversation. Free street parking around the area, will eventually probably have to be cautious of snow routes but for now haven't had a problem finding close parking. Been here twice now and will definitely be back.

Yelp
Good coffee amazing mission. I'd never been here before and met a colleague here to connect. The space is classic coffee shop, cement floors, tables, plants, etcetera. Service is also classic coffee shop - but that's okay, it is actually reassuring. Love the mission and my latte was good. I'll happily go back - in fact we already set out next meeting there!
google avatar

Sehaj S.

Yelp
I'm surprised I haven't yet left a review for Wildflyer! This is the go-to spot for me and one of my close friends. I really love their matcha latte and London Fog, and their baked goods are always really satisfying, the scones in particular. Not to mention, the place is very spacious with a decent amount of outdoor patio seating in the warmer months. I can't leave a review without saying how wonderful the staff is. Everyone's really kind and patient, happy to answer any questions. They are young, bright, super positive folks, love them. Plus the mission of Wildflyer is fantastic: their goal is to provide job stability to homeless youth. That's where your money goes if you buy a drink or a bagel from them, to helping folks build their future. I would love to see more cafes and businesses in town dedicated to this kind of community service!

Yelp
I did it! I found the boujee-est coffee shop in Longfellow I had something called the Monarch Latte (does this not cement my first point?) which had a subtly sweet flavor that let you enjoy the noses of the coffee. Lots of activist type flyers and posters, some memorabilia on the corners and shelves. I had a reasonably good visit to Wildflyer.
google avatar

Andrea K.

Yelp
We popped in for a quick cup to go and what a cool place! Huge windows and a decent amount of table space with an amazing mission to end youth homeless. The staff were super friendly and we loved our drinks! Definitely worth a stop :)

Yelp
I am currently on a journey to find the best croissant among local coffee shops. At the top of my list so far is Wildflyer Coffee. I was in Minnesota for a weekend trip and happened to drive past this coffee shop. My boyfriend and I made the impulse decision to turn the car around and try this place out. Their mission statement is admirable and it is clear this coffee shop is not just another "trendy" local business. We had no trouble finding parking in the area, so I'd say it was a great location. We ordered and were able to snag a table with ease at around 10:30am on a Saturday morning. It began to fill up as we were leaving, however. I ordered an Iced Chai and it was pretty standard, I wasn't disappointed. The buttered croissant is what makes Wildflyer hold a special place in my heart. It was flakey, buttery, sweet, light, and crisp! Everything you could ever want and need in a croissant.

Yelp
Love this shop! I stumbled upon it after a doctor appointment nearby, and love their mission. Huge fan of their specialty lattes, and it's a good spot to settline in and get some work done!

Yelp
When the city let my roommate and I know that they were shutting down our neighborhood power for the day to do repairs, we immediately began to search for a reliable cafe to remotely work from. After some searching, we found Wildflyer and decided to give it a shot. I am SO glad I did because this place was AWESOME! The inside, first off, is adorable. Super bright and a decent amount of tables and places to hang out. My roommate and I were hardly the only other ones there to work. Plus, they kept the music at a nice volume where I didn't feel like I would be causing problems if I had to join a call or meeting. I find some coffee shops really blast their music, making it hard to focus or talk, so I appreciated the volume. Plus, they also played Jose Gonzalez for the first three or so hours we worked there and I absolutely love his music, so it truly was a vibe. I ordered a cold brew, which was really good. It came in an adorable glass that I forgot to take a photo of (smh) but it really added to the drink. I am a strong believer that glasses make a huge difference in how a drink tastes. The staff were awesome, so friendly and helpful. I felt welcomed immediately, and could tell the staff had a strong sense of community among one another. Above all though, I absolutely love that Wildflyer is a nonprofit working to support unhoused youth. I loved being able to support their mission and learn more about it. Seriously so cool, I will most definitely be back. I can easily say that Wildflyer is my new favorite coffee shop in the cities!

Yelp
I love the mission of this place but I have to say I miss Peace Coffee sometimes. Good natural light, average coffee, there could be better ambiance.

Yelp
We love Wildflyer coffee. Friendly staff. Lavender latte is amazing. Baked goods sell out fast. Calm and inviting atmosphere. Great for a work meeting or just catching up on emails. lgtb+ friendly.

Yelp
Last time I was here this was cool piece coffee. So I tried it again today and it was the same quality. Even the area mace sounds rough but it is not at Dentel families with kids on a on a Sunday morning here. The quality of the coffee was excellent figured it was worth the drive all the way from Kevin to have coffee here first I had Cortado. Plenty of free street parking. Biker friendly streets.
google avatar

Steph H.

Yelp
I popped into Wildflyer quickly on a Sunday morning. While I was in and out in 5 minutes, my first impression was great. The guy behind the counter was super friendly and warm. He helped me land on a Café Miel, which was very well made & totally delightful. The place had a cool vibe - natural light, plants, cool art, great branding, etc. I would definitely visit again, but next time I hope to stay a while to read a book or get some work done. I grabbed a quick pic, but it looks like they have a great mission to help homeless youth - what's not to love! Stop in and support them!
google avatar

Kamrin D.

Yelp
I love a good tea that pairs with a good cause. They have a good variety of hot and iced tea which I love and the tea was great. They have indoor and outdoor sitting. It wouldn't be my top pick for a place to do homework or study, but it's great place to meet up with someone for a chat. Quality of drinks is good, service was ok. They forgot to make my drink so I waited a really long time, and eventually had to go ask, but they made it right away after I asked. It's definitely worth a visit and great place to grab a drink whether you are a coffee or tea drinker.

Yelp
Looking for a coffee shop that also cars about the community? Look no further! This place is great and looks to hire homeless teens, with a vision of ending teen homelessness. It's a very well run establishment and it's one of the first coffee shops I recommend to people when they come to the city. You've got to check this place out!

Rashaan H.

Yelp
The coffee was delicious, and the folks working there were incredibly nice. I wasn't sure what I wanted to order but I knew based on the time of day I'd prefer something decaf. The guy who took my order gave me a couple recommendations, one was seasonal and was headed out of rotation soon. I decided to get that and it was very super good! I love Wildflyer's mission and wish I lived closer, although I don't like to buy coffee out too much in general but it's nice to support a local business giving opportunities for youth facing homelessness/housing instability.
google avatar

Sophie S.

Yelp
Colorful coffee shop with open space, large windows, plenty of seating (indoor and out) . Wildflyer Coffee has the goal to help to end youth homelessness. Great business to support and drink a delicious coffee! My mocha was 5/5.
google avatar

Mallory C.

Yelp
The Wildflyer is turning out to be my delightful neighborhood coffee shop! Located on Minnehaha Avenue next to the Trylon Cinema, tons of cute vintage shops, and the Midtown Farmers Market. Wildflyer is run to help support homeless youth while also serving amazing coffee. There is outdoor and indoor seating, but Wildflyer asks that people wear masks inside. Upon entering, the Wildflyer is bright, full of happy plants, and beautiful exposed brick. I typically order an ice coffee which is always a classic, but my friends have also enjoyed the lattes. The one recommendation I have for Wildflyer is to consider bringing in more gluten free bakery goods. I would buy them :) :) Overall, I am in love with Wildflyer!

Yelp
Fantastic shop with awesome staff, vibe, and coffee! Id highly recommend them! Bonus: They are working to end youth homelessness! Go support an incredible local business!

Yelp
Great little coffee shop with excellent pastries from Honey And Rye. The fact they're helping kids just adds to my appreciation. One of my favorite places to go.

Elizabeth W.

Yelp
I've been coming since this place opened and it's gotten better and better. I was very disappointed when Peace Coffee closed, but this is a very worthy replacement. I'm sipping a cafe au lait and nibbling a delicious savory scone as I type this, and i love that they have a more protein-heavy food option (avocado toast) and non-sweet non-coffee drinks for when I'm sufficiently caffeinated. The people who work here are friendly and great.
