Wildhive Callow Hall (Ashbourne, Derbyshire) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"This Victorian country house, set at the southern edge of the Peaks District, has been a hotel for some time, but it’s only after a thorough renovation by its new owners that it’s joined the top ranks of English countryside luxury hotels. The original 1850-vintage Callow Hall house contains 15 colorful, luxe, and stylish bedrooms, while the outlying accommodations include a pair of self-sufficient two-bedroom treehouses and another 11 cozy cottage-style “hives.” The Garden Room restaurant serves a seasonal menu crafted from exquisitely sourced local produce, including herbs grown in the hotel’s own garden." - Tablet Hotels

Wildhive Callow Hall Hotel Review | Hotels Above Par

"A bucolic, blissfully isolated five-star country-house retreat on the southern edge of the Peak District near Ashbourne, this reinvented 19th-century estate (originally built by H. J. Stevens for John Goodwin Johnson) pairs a back-to-nature philosophy with bold, kaleidoscopic interiors by Isabella Worsley. Think London maximalism meets the shires: vivid patterns, layered colours and whimsical touches animate roomy main-house suites with generous tubs, statement pillows and cosy fireside beds. For a more immersive stay, beehive-shaped Scandi-style cabins and treehouses sit in the woods as self-contained boltholes—complete with kitchenettes, chic living areas, outdoor tubs (and indoor showers for the modest)—perfect for recluses or romantic weekenders. Dining is seasonal, elevated British pub fare with a European tilt (local steaks, gourmet burgers, chicken and famously indulgent triple-cooked chips) served beneath a glass terrace dotted with plants and candles. The estate leans into outdoor life: bikes to tackle the 13-mile Tissington Trail, rolling hills and grazing livestock on the doorstep, vintage-shopping and tea in nearby Ashbourne, a small spa and cosy communal touches like a drawing room with a massive jigsaw and the simple pleasure of tea and a book. With about 15 rooms, it’s an ideal spot to switch off—solo or as a couple—rates from roughly $379 per night."

What a fabulous relaxing way to spend some time, we stayed in the Thistle Hive it was heavenly. From when you arrive at Callow Hall it is so relaxing, staff are so welcoming and friendly and always available if you need anything. You then journey into the woods to your Hive for what is fabulous experience. The Hives have everything that you could need, such a wonderful way to spend some time, you feel that you are part of the woods. Staff are always on hand if the walk down to the Hall is too much for you or better still if the walk back to your Hive seems long after a few drinks. We had such a good nights sleep the bed was so comfortable and being in the woods it is so quiet. Thank you to Oliver and Adrien and the rest of the staff for looking after us whilst we stayed in this wonderful environment.

Wonderful experience staying in one of the “hives” would give. 4 1/2 out of 5 tbh. The treehouse was cute with everything you could need for a short stay. Beautifully decorated and a novel experience. Only downside was it was very hot at night and didn’t want to open the windows because of midges could do with some window screens or air con/fan. Was nice to be up in the trees but missed the stunning view from the restaurant. Restaurant menu was a bit over fussy and expensive but staff were lovely especially the young guy who gave us directions into town. Although we didn’t use the spa facilities it was good to know they were there. Garden could do with looking after as the Manor House is stunning. A lovely stay would highly recommend

I secretly booked to stay in one of the Wild Hives with my partner following my surprise proposal earlier in the day at Bamford Edge. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was perfect, magical and memorable. Shortly after booking, I received an email from the Front Of House Manager asking when I would be free to speak on the phone. We had a call and discussed what they could do to help make our stay extra special. She suggested decorating the room with fairy lights and rose petals on the bed, putting a bottle of Prosecco in the room for us to enjoy, having pizzas delivered to the room for dinner and finally finishing the evening off in the forest toasting marshmallows over a fire. I really appreciated all the thought that went into this and it all turned out perfectly. We loved everything about our stay and it made a special day very memorable! Thank you to all the staff for making our stay enjoyable from start to finish - we will be back!

A short drive from Ashbourne/country road walk away. ||First impressions? A gorgeous tree lined drive to the car park. It's a shame the car park is loose stones and not tarmac/similar. ||Short walk up hill to the hotel. The reception desk is not obvious, it does look like a hotel guest had left their laptop in a snug room. Pleasant welcome, then a golf buggy ride to our hive. These you can request whenever you need with a little notice. ||The hive itself has gorgeous views over the countryside. Only thing that spoilt it was the shipping container that was covered in fake leaves to hide it. Also we got given the hive where everyone else had to walk past on the path to the side, the lights would keep you awake if you didn't close the bathroom door.||Complimentary Kendal mint cake and biscuits but no crisps as it mentioned in the welcome pack.||Soft mattress and comfy bed, TV, microwave, Nespresso machine, fresh milk in fridge and water.||A little bit like a tardis as lots of space. More hangers are definitely needed though.||The bathroom is where it needs a bit of maintenance. The grouting needs doing in the shower and the floor looks like it needs replacing.||It was a relaxing stay, good service and clean. I just think if the above were fixed and a reduced price breakfast for guests it would be worth the price per night.

Beautiful hotel just 100 yards from the start of the Tissington Trail., on the outskirts of Ashbourne. ||What a fab hotel this is - beautiful old Manor House with a modern glass restaurant with extensive views across the valley and hills opposite. We had Dinner and Breakfast in the restaurant, both very tasty! ||Superb staff throughout the hotel, everyone we met seemed very professional and friendly. No weak links here!||We took our own e-bikes and we were able to charge them overnight ready for our next ride around Carsington Water, also close by. ||Would recommend this hotel 100% and can’t wait to return.

In almost every respect this is the most glorious of retreats. Set in beautiful countryside theis opulent hotel is just wonderful. We stayed in one of the tree house 'hives' which was everything you could hope for. The front of house staff were really welcoming and the drivers who ferried you to the tree house were also friendly and helpful. We ate in the restaurant and the menu and food was absolutely first class, really very good food. The one thing that let it down was the service which was really slow and very inattentive. I had to actually get out of my seat to speak to a waiter. They also didn't have 2 of the wines we asked for and got the bill wrong. Which is a real shame because I can genuinely say that other than that our stay was perfect.

Lovely hotel, clean and well finished rooms. Service on the main reception was very good. Service in the restaurant is not very attentive, had to keep asking for service, to place food and drinks orders, for tables to be cleaned outside etc. It wasnt overly busy when we stayed. Fantastic bike rides and walks in the local area.

Having been sorely disappointed by a hotel north of Whitby the night before, we were braced for another. But, no. The moment that we stepped into the hall we knew that things were on the up. Whoever was responsible for the interior design has done a superb job. All the fabrics, chairs, sofas, beds and lamps are of the highest quality and give the whole place a feeling of quiet luxury. Thank God!||The staff, although many very young and inexperienced, were all extremely helpful. The view over the valley is excellent and the meal we did have was good - and our pre-dinner margarita was perfect. Alas we were on a flying visit but will definitely return. There is much to explore in the Peak District and this hotel will be our base.
