My friend and I went for a late lunch. Will Call is in the former will call area of the large warehouse that is now the INDUSTRY shared workspace development. The space has a very high ceiling with an industrial design, very comfortable rows of large booths on each side, tables in the middle, and a large bar. There's also an outside patio.
We both absolutely loved this place. I have a particular beer style that I like and I explained my preferences to the waiter. He immediately suggested three options that were a perfect match to my desires. The menu includes some starters, salads, soup, and burgers, but we came here because we wanted to try the arepas which are the Venezuelan/Colombian notion of a corn-based flat bread that is split like an English muffin and used to make a sandwich. They offer five basic styles to which you can add a choice of protein, a sauce, and a side.
I had the Toastador which includes black bean paste, plantain, corn, and queso fresco. I substituted grilled onion for the usual pickled onion and added pulled pork and the avocado salsa. I also had it smothered in the Hatch pork green chili. OMG! Absolutely delicious. A really nice combination of flavors. It was a bit tricky to eat as I had to use my knife and fork to cut up the arepa and then spoon up a piece with the wonderful sauce and fillings. Very satisfying.
My friend and I both chose the sweet potato fries as our side. We agreed these were the best sweet potato fries ever. They were very large, hand-cut chunks of sweet potato with a balsamic glaze that brought them to a whole new level. Really tender and flavorful. A highlight of the meal. The portions were perfect, the beers went very well with the food, and the waiter was helpful and knowledgeable--just a very pleasant experience.
