A Guide to the Best Wine Tastings in the Willamette Valley

"With its massive estate tasting room just south of Salem, Willamette Valley Vineyards is likely a best bet at grabbing a walk-in spot any day of the week. Depending on the weather, choose between the warm-but-spacious indoor tasting area, a large courtyard, a sprawling patio with vineyard views, pinot decks, a mezzanine, and vineyard lawns for your tasting setting. Those who walk in, however, may have a harder time nabbing a straight-up flight; the mezzanine, patio, courtyard, decks, and lawns are bottle-and-glass service only (this shouldn’t be a problem for those looking to relax with a glass of wine). Expect lots of pinot noir, from rosé to whole cluster, with some fun rare offerings like méthode champenoise sparkling and semi-sparkling muscat. Willamette Valley Vineyards also offers a full food menu with suggested pairings, like a shrimp and scallop salad meant to be eaten alongside a glass of pinot blanc or wood-fired pizzas with some pinot to wash it down. It’s open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and until 8 p.m. on Fridays." - Zoe Baillargeon, Brooke Jackson-Glidden

22 Must-Visit Culinary Pit Stops in Oregon | Eater

"This long-established property perches right above I-5 and offers a sweeping westward view of the valley. Plan your visit between Thursday and Sunday to enjoy “Pinot and Pie,” which pairs a 14” wood-fired pizza with a bottle of estate wine. On your way out, stop by the WWV gift shop for wine-infused vinegars, oils, and mustards too. If you’d like to linger, the vineyard offers stays at their winery suites, each package including a private winery tour and tasting. Reservations are requested for indoor tastings, but summer is the peak time to enjoy WVV’s outdoor Pinot decks and lawns." - Janey Wong

We were there an hour before the last call so we felt rushed. We were here from Denver with our daughter for her birthday. We did not know they closed so early. So check before you go. The wine was pretty good. We got several flights and several bottles. We would have loved to have spent more time and money. Maybe on our next "flight".

This was our first time visiting Willamette Valley Vineyards Estate and we had an amazing time! From the minute you turn onto the property it is absolutely beautiful. Every person you interact with is so kind and welcoming which made for a wonderful experience. Shoutout to Bradley who was our tour guide - so kind, knowledgeable and his customer service is top notch! Thanks for a wonderful afternoon of good wine, food and a great experience!

Google
Gorgeous vineyards and excellent wine. Beautiful vineyards. We loved the tasting experience. Food was OK, we had lunch but I think we would have enjoyed small bites more here.

Google
The view is stunning! It’s a must see in the Willamette valley! The service was stellar. Murphy was fantastic! Brought our tasting in a swift and personal fashion. The wine - awe- always amazing. Thanks for a few extra pours. Made for a special evening w family.

Google
My partner and I booked a private tour of the property. It was our first time going on a wine tour and we were very excited! The location itself was so beautiful and magical. Our tour guide, Lucy, was excellent! She was fun and easy to talk to and she was very knowledgeable about the history of the vineyard and the process of making the wine itself. We could not have been happier to have had her as our tour specialist. After our tour we had more lovely interactions with the staff. The lady at the gift shop recommended some of her favorite wines and we sampled some over dinner with the help of a friendly waiter. Can’t wait to book another trip back!

We have always enjoyed coming here, the tastes, the menu, and always bring friends and family with us. Today we had the pure privilege of meeting Miss Abigail!!! Father in Law coming into town from direction, Sister in Law flew in from Denver, old friends from High School all meeting up for an impromptu lunch. Abigail grabbed the situation, setup our table, beautiful arrangement, kept the food and wine coming throughout our meetup… truly a Customer Service Professional that made my entire group feel like VIP… thank you Abigail!!!

Google
Jim has done a wonderful job creating this beautiful setting and successful line of wines. Been there several times over the years and enjoy my visa every time.

Google
This wasn’t our first time, and we were hosting a couple from up north. We had a nice table in the tasting room. Four meals, three flights, and a postcard perfect photo on the patio. Thanks again. Our server, Madi, was very knowledgeable on the wines in our flight, but stumbled over a couple of question on the food menu.

Steve K.

Yelp
We stayed in a rental Airstream at the Into the Woods RV Park on the property and Lynn and Randy were the perfect hosts! Not only was our Airstream super clean, it was very well appointed. Lynn even left cut flowers for us to enjoy. We had a wine tasting and tour with Lucy and she was friendly, knowledgeable and super-informative. She spent extra time with us and answered all of our questions. All in all a great stay!

Perry V.

Yelp
Food and wine were great. Views were unbeatable. And our guide Max did a wonderful job of educating us about the winery and showed us a good time.

Max L.

Yelp
Did a wine tour with a fine lad named Max and it was a delight! Definitely gotta return to do this all again!

Yelp
Visited Into the Woods by Willamette Valley Vineyards. The camping is very nice at this location . In addition we had lunch at Willamette Valley Vineyards follows by the blending experience hosted by Max . He explained the blending process and was extremely helpful , and a big part of this being a fun event . Thanks Max !

Yelp
Willamette Valley Pinots drew us for a visit to this Destination Winery. We stayed 'in the woods rv area' and hiked ourselves up a steep lil jaunt up to the winery for panoramic views of the entire Estate! Lovely vineyards, hills, tasting room w/ wine cellars, patio and members areas. Take a moment to enjoy the property itself. We did the $25 tasting experience and Our server Alia (I think) and Brianna were very welcoming and informative about the wines and chocolate truffles that we tried. They serve food as well as tasting menu and snacks you can enjoy by the fireplace seating, tables or bar seats. Tip: With your tasting you receive 10% off a 6 wine bottle purchase and that waived the tasting fee. I look forward to more off season visits for more delicious wines. That Tempranillo sure is something, wow!

Yelp
It's Wine Time! We absolutely loved our time at Willamette Winery. If you're a wine lover and foodie, this spot is a good one. Located in a beautiful, sprawling vineyard, the winery is picturesque and perfect for a relaxing day out. The view is up on a hill and in sane. The highlight for us was the delicious cheese board and shrimp salad, both of which were fresh, flavorful, and perfectly paired with Willamette's excellent wine selection. The staff was great. Our server was so friendly and perfect! With live music playing outside, the atmosphere was laid-back and serene. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
I went on a winery tour with 6 friends and had a great time! Staff was welcoming as soon as we stepped into the tasting room. Max was our guide and was delightful. He was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of interesting information. I really appreciated his laid back vibe. He never seemed rushed or annoyed with our group of progressively tipsy ladies. We got pours of 6 wines over the course of thx tour. The vineyard is beautiful, the wines are delicious and in a good price range. At the end, we got to sit and chill with a nice charcuterie plate, and had the opportunity to sample any other wines we were interested in, plus you get a discount! I did not realize the tasting room itself has a rotating seasonal menu, will have to check that out next time!

Yelp
What a great vineyard to visit! The grounds are gorgeous, with breathtaking views from a high vantage point. The tasting room is equal parts cavernous and cozy, with lots of space but a warm, inviting feeling and a nice fireplace. Plenty of outdoor seating too. I'm not a wine person, but their pinot noir knocked my socks off. So good, very easy drinking, and delicious. The food looked good too! I stuck with a salad, but the other dishes that came out all looked and smelled amazing. Willamette Valley really sets the bar high for vineyards!

Yelp
If you like wine I mean tasting and buying great wine this is your spot . If you want chef's to make your food with the finest ingredients this is your spot. I came here on Vacation with one of the owners. We had so much wine so much food and left with so many bottles yum . The service was top notch. The ambiance was one of the best. No lie the food was the best I have had in my life top three for sure.. yum yum

Yelp
Breath taking views, excellent food, reasonable prices, good wine, and an overall fabulous experience. Our group of five came here for lunch and had an outdoor table to take in the gorgeous views. We ordered family style and had: bread and house cultured butter, Cascadia Board, Bourbon bacon shrimp, roasted squash and duck salad, Pinot braised beef, and plank roasted lemon herb steelhead. We also had two bottles of their Pinot Noir. Everything was delicious! The duck salad was very refreshing and the steelhead was perfectly cooked. My favorite was the bourbon bacon shrimp. Their house cultured butter was excellent. The two bottles of Pinot Noir were very good and reasonably priced. No corkage fee was charged and our server was very nice and professional. I highly recommend this vineyard for a nice meal with gorgeous views and delicious food and wine.

Yelp
So we purchased a wine suite stay with blending experience at a fundraiser and had the BEST time. First of all Mackenzie was awesome for our blending experience. Low key, informative and fun - super knowledgeable and engaging and not pretentious (we have been there done that). Wines are delicious - their blending machine is like Willy Wonka for wine - highly recommend... Second... Then dinner and tasting (yes we joined the club) with lovely Anna as our server. Delightful, informative and attentive - the food and quality and portions were impressive (we tempered our expectations) - delicious and she was so awesome. Highly recommend overall - we live in Bend, excited to try new tasting room there - great experience overall, quality without the attitude - the suite is beautiful and comfortable - views are breathtaking. So excited to continue trying their wines and 10 locations? What a win.

Yelp
Went out to the Turner location late September to pick up my quarterly wine and to do a tasting and lunch. My compliments to Avery. We sat in the owners room and the service was amazingly outstanding. I can't say enough about it. Very knowledgeable about the wines and the service was prompt and efficient. This was a nice surprise because I was expecting very little after my last two visits here, to Vancouver and to Domaine Willamette. They were all extremely disappointing, especially since we are original owners I guess I expected more. And this time I got it. Well done, Avery!

Yelp
On August 18, I treated a friend to a tour of the facility of Willamette Valley Vineyards. Bradley did a great job with the tour - even tolerated me since this is at least the third time that I have done it and I was adding "editorial comments". The wines were very good, but we love the Griffin Creek. The cheese and cracker board at the end was a nice touch. The new policy of having the cost of the tour go towards the purchase of two bottles (of Griffin Creek) was AMAZING!

Yelp
Great everything! Service, wine, ambiance ! Indoor and outdoor seating overlooking great views. Easy to get to and great for a quick stop in

Yelp
Purely based the wine and food, they had delicious clams and the older wine was fantastic. Did the reserve / elevated wine tasting and it was worth it. I can't stop thinking about the 2017 Bernau Block Pinot Nior. The place had amazing views and had both indoor and outdoor seating. Limited parking near the entrance so you may have to walk uphill or around the building. Note of caution, we did not know that they served food / had a food menu and bought food with us. According to my friends, as I was looking for parking, a staff member was a bit snippy about how outside foods are not allowed. Nonetheless, make a visit and see what you all like.

Yelp
Anna was the best waitress. So friendly to talk to and very attentive. The food was a tad bland. But overall I would still rate my experience a 5/5 because of the wine and Anna's service. I would definitely come back. Thank you Anna!!

Yelp
The entrance and the drive up was very pretty. You drive past all of the grapes with their respective signs so you know if they are Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, etc. And you pull into a little parking lot. There's a large oak barrel with the name where you can take a photo before entering the winery. They also have a second building for tastings or private events. They have suites you can rent as well if you want to stay onsite. The inside where the bar & restaurant is was a little warm upstairs, but cool downstairs. There was a lovely staff member to check you in and provide menus, wine selection & pairings. We found some comfy couch seating upstairs near the fireplace (off at the time due to summer), but had to walk back downstairs when ready to order as there was no server upstairs. One of our selections was the bubbly tasting consisting of bubbly brut rose and bubbly brut which was supposed to come with popcorn but they were out. We also tried the flight which was a great selection of different wines. We took some photos and enjoyed the experience! We had just eaten before we arrived so we didn't try the food, but it smelled amazing! I bought 2 bottles of wine to bring back to Charleston-the Pinot Noir & Dijon Clone Chardonnay-both seasonal.

Yelp
Such a lovely experience. We enjoyed a flight and a charcuterie board. After we walked over to the wine shop and we were taken care of by Sandy. She was a delight!
google avatar

Veronica K.

Yelp
This winery is gorgeous and spending an afternoon here is the perfect day! All their wines are expertly crafted and I loved everything I tried. The winery itself is large and well maintained, and there's both indoor and outdoor seating depending on your needs. Such a beautiful place, definitely recommend!

Evelyn J.

Yelp
We had a delightful tasting experience thanks to Jeff at the McMinnville Tasting Room. He was welcoming and so knowledgeable about the vineyards and the great wines they produce. The tasting room atmosphere is comfortable and makes it easy to relax and enjoy the wines.
google avatar

Michele S.

Yelp
Very commercial, got too crowded for the outdoor server, they didn't send anyone to help her. The wine was just okay.

Yelp
There is a reason Willamette Valley Vineyards Estate Tasting room is on Enchanted Way! Our group of 4 had a very enchanting visit from start to finish. First of all, the property is very beautiful and elegant, and the staff is super friendly and welcoming. Our host, Shane, went above and beyond with his knowledge, professionalism, and genuine kindness. He provided a top notch experience at a top notch winery. We were very the thankful for the personal attention. We highly recommend anyone visiting! We also could not resist, and ordered a bunch of delicious food! You have to!

Meg G.

Yelp
Loved this experience! Lori was exceptional in helping us select the wines to match our taste. The location is stunning and I loved the fact we could bring our own snacks that meet our dietary challenges. Wine is fabulous, even bought a couple of bottles to enjoy at home!
google avatar

Matt C.

Yelp
If we have friends visiting Salem, Oregon that enjoy wine, this is the #1 place we bring them to. Amazing wine, great views and high quality food and snacks. Staff is always great and give lots of details about each of their wine options.
google avatar

Grace R.

Yelp
We came for lunch and had the Tarragon Steelhead with linguine plus wine pairing. The steelhead trout was cooked to perfection, and the dish was outstanding. We topped the meal off with Lemon Cheesecake which was delectable. Kudos to the chef for our lunch. Service was very good. After lunch, we moved outdoors for the Premier Flight. It was 97F degree in July and they pleasantly had water lightly misting guests. The view on the patio is spectacular! 'Twas a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.

Yelp
Our Ambassador- Quinn Pomeroy made our wine tour experience! He was exceptional in his knowledge of every detail and was passionate about the wine made. The food was excellent- the ambiance was exceptional! I would highly recommend a visit !!

Yelp
Family decided to have lunch today and what a great time we had! Wine and food was outstanding and a great day. Our server Mischka was so happy to see us and the service was over the top. So nice to be waited on by someone who enjoys her job and knows it well. Never been disappointed on any of our visits the entire staff is eager to make your visit memorable.Happy Anniversary Mischka one year! Regards Mike and JoAnn

Yelp
Stayed overnight in The Woods camping area on the winery property. It was lovely. Easy check in, private site, and spotless bathhouse. I will recommend to friends and come back too!

Sheila R.

Yelp
We stayed at the Into the Woods Rv Park on the property and took the Hike the Vineyard experience. Our guide, Max was an amazing host! He walked us through the woods and into the vineyard with wine in hand. He was great at answering our questions and explaining the grape varietals and how the wine is made here. We learned so much about the winery! We also enjoyed a nice picnic charcuterie plate while over looking the valley and vines. Max was a fantastic host and we enjoyed his company and expertise!
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
Stunning views, lovely food menu, abundant wine selection, but service is not a priority here.
google avatar

C M.

Yelp
Wow! What can I say? The Estate wowed us this last weekend! I was a bit worried about the Owner's Party being crowded, but it was the opposite of that! We loved how we could meander around the property and see so many areas of the winery! I have worked in the industry, and know how much work goes into an event like this! I was impressed by everyone's level of service! Every single employee we encountered provided amazing customer service and just made it fun! Thank you especially to McKenzie, Angie, Mischka, Sarah, Lyndsie, my two favorites downstairs in the courtyard, (I am really sorry I didn't get their names), Brandon, Kaylin, and Alabama. We won't forget this experience and can't wait until next time!

John M.

Yelp
Our private tour at Willamette Valley Vineyards was truly a wonderful experience. Shane was our ambassador and he brought a wealth of his own knowledge and experience to our tour and was always professional and engaging. I have been on many wine tours and this was one of my favorites. My niece was so excited that she told Shane that she was having one of the best days of her life. Beyond the actual tour, we found the winery to be beautifully maintained, enjoyed the exquisite views and the wine selections were top notch. We wine tasted with some food pairings in a private room overlooking the vineyard and it could not have been a better experience. Shane you are the best and my family and I are looking forward to seeing you again on future tours.

Jeff T.

Yelp
We had a small group of us that tried a variety of dishes, and all were great. Several of us also got cups of soup. Emmerson, Cami, and Kaylee were friendly and profession. They had to bring about 10 dishes and 5 soups from upstairs to the downstairs area. The food was a great temperature and very good. I suggest the Steelhead Salmon. They also have a chef's counter upstairs that has 4 courses @2pm and pair with wine. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

Elisa P.

Yelp
Stopped in to try their wines. The staff was attentive. The winery was very large and resort-like. I, personally, prefer a more intimate experience like you get at a boutique winery.

Yelp
We saved our overnight 6/24 visit to the Main Estate as the last Willamette Valley Vineyard stop of our epic 7-stop PNW wine adventure! To say our entire party was amazed and impressed with the tasting room, cellar, library, vineyards, production facility, wine shop--and owner suites--would be an understatement. From our arrival until our departure we were treated like VIP's and enjoyed every second of our stay. Bradley and the wonderful team of professionals at the Estate ensured we got to see and learn about so many aspects of the flagship Willamette Valley Vineyard. It was unexpected to meet Terry and appreciated the time he gave us as whole Cluster bottling was in full speed. Thank you to Emi for arranging our accommodations and the wonderful hospitality throughout our visit. As we wound down our stay, we really appreciated Spence getting us to the top of the tower to take in the incredible vineyard views. Thank you again Bradley for taking such great care of our entire group--We will be back!

Yelp
My wife and I recently went to Willamette Valley Vineyards for a tasting. We didn't have a reservation but they graciously accommodated us for a full tasting. Our server was Alabama Gillette and she was amazing! She was knowledgeable about all of the wines and a delight to work with. We have been coming to this winery for years but have never had such a great experience as we did that day. Thank you, Alabama, and thank you WVV!
google avatar

Sandy H.

Yelp
We had such a great experience at the winery. Max was very knowledgeable about the grape vines down to the different types of wine! I will definitely tell friends to stop by and make sure to ask for Max!!!

Yelp
Absolutely stunning view. My wife and I took my parents here and they absolutely loved it. From the beautiful entry way to the winding road up to the Winery, and the view from the top of the restaurant. Our server was incredibly friendly. There aren't a lot of food options but she was definitely helpful with wine selection. Both my wife and my mum had their wine flights. They both said they enjoyed their selections, although their pours do seem to fluctuate between each wine. It's supposed to be 1 oz or a shot, and on average I'd say they pour slightly more than that; however the amount varies between wines, so I don't know if it has any correlation to the price of the wine. Either way the price of the flight is negated if you buy 2 bottles of wine before leaving, so it's a pretty solid deal. Especially considering that they let you sample the wine if you're trying to buy a bottle. Regarding the food, as I said, the selection is pretty slim, so we ended up all getting the same Burger. That being said the burger itself was amazing. They had a lot of different components that worked very well together. The potato straws were super crunchy, the sweetness of the jam, and a healthy serving of bleu cheese. The only thing that I thought was lacking was the fries, which were pretty underwhelming.
google avatar

Maria-Elena T.

Yelp
Met two friends here for lunch. Of course the wine was amazing. The recommendation was spot on. I got a glass and my friends split a bottle. I thought my pour was light and would get a bottle next time. Two of us got the pizza and one got the burger. He liked his burger. I went off menu for my pizza. They got the ingredients right but it was not really hot and the cheese not melted. It was an obvious difference next to my friends' pizza. Her pizza looked right out of the oven. I had to flag down the waitress. She offered to hear it more (my pizza minus the one slice). I agreed and ate a slice from my friend's pizza while I waited. When she came back, they had made a whole new pizza which was much better. It was hard to figure out where my friends were. There are several parking lots too. Once I called them and he guided me in, all was good. We were in the Estate tasting room. The view is amazing. The ambiance is really relaxing I forgot to get my receipt and they went above and beyond to get that to me. Despite a few hiccups, I highly recommend this winery and I'll be back!

Debra H.

Yelp
Such a stressful day and Tyler H just totally diffused it all!! Great service. Soothing personality and he happens to work where the wine and food are epic so there is that too. HIGHLY recommend !
google avatar

Cynthia G.

Yelp
Great landscape which of course leads to great views. The wine is beautiful the venue is perfect for the events they hold. The staff is professional and friendly. I feel like I stepped into the best hallmark movie every time I come here.

Ross J.

Yelp
From the very first time I walked in the door, I was impressed by the location, the atmosphere, and the food. Their wine had already proven itself to be delicious. The staff is very knowledgeable and courteous. It is truly our go to for Friday nights.

Jo Anne N.

Yelp
Our group of 70 classmates enjoyed a fabulous afternoon of wine, appetizers, and reconnection in the beautiful event space at WVV. Emi was wonderful to work with, accommodating our needs and was so responsive to any questions we had. Anna and Tyler were our very warm, friendly, and hospitable servers. We older folks really appreciated these convivial young people. Many thanks to Jim Bernau and his great team for providing us with the perfect afternoon!

Cass M.

Yelp
This was my first wine tasting and we had a great experience! We ended up splitting a flight which was a perfect amount to try each variety! Our server Kammy was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. They had a great variety of snacks or full meals to choose from with suggested wine parings. There was also a great view. Next time we will be requesting to sit on the balcony! Thanks for a great time!
google avatar

LB B.

Yelp
We had a fabulous tour with Alison Ricketts for my sweethearts' special Birthday Event The vintners' Tour was excellent and Alison is super approachable and knowledgeable about the history of the winery, winemaking process and has interesting facts to share !!! Such a nice facility- We look forward to coming back soon to share the experience with our close friends !

Wayne K.

Yelp
This is the most beautiful vineyard we have ever seen. The views are outstanding, the staff is exceptional, and the wines are unbelievable. We did the wine tour and our host, Max, picked outstanding wines for us to sample. The Malbec was nothing short of amazing. As we toured the estate, he would pour us a wine and would walk us through the process. He was extremely knowledgeable about all the different aspects of the vineyard. After the tour we stayed and ate the restaurant, huge portions and very delicious. Max was very gracious and helped us with everything. Thank you Max for a wonderful visit and tour. I would do this again in a heartbeat!
google avatar

Mae B.

Yelp
Girls night out in one of the outdoor huts was a perfect way to spend an evening. Our server Quinn was amazing. It is obvious he thoroughly enjoys his job. We started with a cellar tour and learn a little about the behind the scenes of wine making. Quinn was very knowledgeable and patient with our questions and laughter 10/10. Can't wait to return and request Quinn.
google avatar

Anny O.

Yelp
There were 5 of us being given a tour and then served in our heated dome. Quinn was our waiter and was very good at serving us in a timely way. Very knowledgeable about the wines we were tasting. He was such a good sport dealing with 5 women. Loved him and will definitely request him next time! It was a perfect night, not a cloud in the sky. It felt so secluded and nice and warm.

Rebecca G.

Yelp
Sarah D. was delightful and helpful in making selections, the view amazing, and the wines delicious!
