Based on my star rating, it should come as no surprise that I enjoyed my experience at Willie D's. And judging by the reviews on Google, you reading this should be on your way there right now. I do want to take a moment though and give praise where praise is due (and forgive the length of this review). I love food, and after recently returning to the area from Galveston, I love the culinary mecca that Dallas has become/is becoming. I eat out quite a bit and have had some of the finest food in this area. Willie D's was supposed to be a quick Friday night drink after work, but it was so much more. The atmosphere: friendly and inviting, but head-nodding hip. The staff: some of the finest I've ever encountered - helpful, friendly, and attentive while blending into the background and not disturbing your experience. They have mastered the art of "reading the room" when it comes to their diners. The food: it is sneakily fabulous! The subtle hit of mango and pepper on the raw oysters, the hint of horseradish in the ultra-addictive jalapeno ranch dressing, the tiny after hit of tamarind in the habanero margarita that reminds you of sweet bourbon smokiness...everything is comforting and familiar with a cool welcome plot twist.
Pound for pound, Willie D's may be my favorite restaurant in Dallas. Gauntlet thrown.
Try them out - guaranteed, you'll leave pleasantly surprised...and happy...and full!
