The 17 Best Restaurants In Venice Beach

"A visit to the original Willie Mae’s in New Orleans can result in two-hour waits. That's longer than we’d wait for pretty much anything (Din Tai Fung included). But now there's a West Coast location in Venice with a fast-casual model, meaning it’s easy to get your hands on their fried chicken. Picture a flaky crust that crackles and shatters the moment you bite in—the thin, slightly spicy crust seals in all the chicken juices, which end up running down your arms between bites. There’s also a long list of sides like gumbo, red beans, and candied yams. The chicken will outshine anything in its path, though. " - brant cox, sylvio martins, nikko duren

This restaurant has a good homey feel. The food is so good. Comfort at its finest. The staff were really attentive and pleasant and the owner treats everyone like family. I recommend the jambalaya and the sweet tea that has mango in it. The fried shrimp and fish were really good. As well as the gumbo, Mac and cheese, fried rice and cabbage. I am from out of town but whenever I am back in the area I will come back.

What an amazing experience!! From the atmosphere, the staff, to the food!! I don’t know what took us so long to try Willie Mae’s! The food was so delicious and full of flavor down to the kids chicken tenter made with REAL pieces of chicken! Our waiter was the perfect amount of attentive and right on with refills and taking plates away. Oh and the biscuits definitely get the biscuits 😍

Google
Scratch southern food kitchen. We've had several meals here. The menu changes fairly regularly. The winter menu wasn't really aligned with our tastes, however the new May menu has lots of options for our palate. We ordered the fried chicken meal and the lemon butter chicken. Both were a substantial portion. Definitely two meals worth. They were excellent as we've come to expect here. They've recently added wine to the menu and the wife is much appreciative. The red was to her liking. I, on the other hand, had a non alcoholic mixed cocktail with peach and coconut. It was good. Don't sleep on this place, but make sure you check the menu before going, less your favorite from before is no longer available.

Best Southern food without having to go down south. The place and location is unassuming. It has its own brewery on premises. There is also outdoor dinning, of course that is for the warmer months. Located not far from the West End Fair Grounds. Service felt personal.

We don't live far, and we finally came in. Our server was very nice, and the food was delicious. The owner stopped over to our table, and she was so nice to talk to. I definitely want to go back to have Uncle Leroy's shrimp and cheesy grits dish again!!

We visited on a holiday weekend as we were passing through and were surprised we had missed this cute place in the past. The food was decent and we both took portions home of the seafood gumbo and meatloaf. Unfortunately, the cornbread was reheated so it got a bit hard and dry, but we'd like to give it a second chance fresh. For an appetizer, the Mac and cheese with brisket was warm and comforting. Definitely going to visit again!

Yelp
Surprising gold nugget of restaurant! Welcoming atmosphere. Acoustic contemporary covers were playing which was great background b/c actual songs would've made conversation difficult to hear. We had a good time guessing the songs and artists. Table games are available for interaction and conversation sans cell phone. Beautiful vintage music players displayed through out the space. Our server was prompt, friendly and knowledgeable. Now the food....the brisket YUMdirty tots were delicious. Jambalaya wasn't too spicy, our server rated it at 4/10 which I'd agree with. The restaurant showcased a lot of shadowboxes with instruments, which were hand made by a local artist friend. The owner stopped by the tables to chit chat. Will go back again and recommend to others

Yelp
Tonight I visited a southern comfort place with my daughter and we ordered the BBQ rib dinner. The ribs were good and tender, which was a highlight for us. However, the sides were a bit of a letdown. The mac & cheese was just okay, and we didn't really enjoy the collard greens or sweet potato puree. Overall, it wasn't the best meal we've had, but it wasn't the worst either. I would say to give them a chance, everyone's taste is different.

Yelp
Food tastes like it's right out of your southern grandma's kitchen. I had the rib dish, and my husband had the fried chicken. We also got a side of fries and cornbread. The ribs were so good, not completely smothered in BBQ sauce, just the right amount! I'm not always a fan of homemade Mac n cheese, but this was amazing! Hubby spent many years living in the south, and he was not disappointed by anything on the table! The cornbread made my night! The staff is also the sweetest, nicest people you could meet! We were checked on, and everyone was so friendly. The place is also super clean. We will definitely be going back! I can't wait to try the gumbo and hubby can't wait to try the grits.

Yelp
They ripped us off!!!! Took our 100.00 deposit for renting out the restaurant while they told us the desserts were free of charge since we had such a big catering order. My bad for not getting it in writing!! Will not return. They are thieves!!

Yelp
I m going to mention it at the start that we went here for a,Special Event...A Murder Mystery for Valentine's Day.Possibly that accounts for the terrible impression we got. Many diners,a floor show of sorts... To begin with ,service was poor.We entered ,not one to help us with seating. We were finally seated and told we had to share your table.(Valentine Day!)We we're then handed a drinks menu w/one drink per person included in the price. One Hour later(start was supposed to bed 6:30)no none took our drink order. We had water ...nothing else. Going on simultaneously we we're given scripts and name tags for the show.It seemed interesting but was executed so poorly with NO cohesion. About 2 hrs later we got our salads or soups.I cant personally review the soup but then woman to my right said it was delicious...at this point cardboard wouldve been tasty having waited hours to eat! I had a Caesar salad which resembled no Caesar salad I have ever eaten.Picture Crisp Romaine hearts with freshly shaved Parmesan and homemade croutons...yeah that wasnt it!This salad looked and tasted like it was made days ago.Didnt even have.that garlicky taste. Moving onto the main course.Minw was steak...so was the woman.seated next to me.Unfortunately, she preferred well done and it seemed as of they were all medium rare. The potatoes were tasty but cold.as was the serving plate. At 9:30 at night very few people could.eat a heavy metal. All around us people began to leave and ask for take out boxes. Now if the Mystery was riveting or funny or EVEN a Mystery we might have stayed. But after a raunchy, gross and totally tasteless dialogue that fell.short of funny.we had NO murder! So we left also. We couldnt get out dessert to go as it was a cream brulée and supposedly couldnt be packed. Be advised we only spent 65$on this evening per person but would have much rather put this toward a Great Take out and and and Agatha Christie movie.

Yelp
The food is superb, the fish is fried to perfection and the boneless chicken thighs melt in your mouth. The wait staff is friendly, food came quickly. The ambiance/ atmosphere is warm and inviting and on Friday nights there is various types of entertainment from mystery comedy show to Karaoke. A definitely must check out.

Yelp
The food was good the service wasn't had to wait a long time for a drink and to take our order they never came back to see if we need anything the place was full and only one girl was doing waitresses and hosting had to get our own to go container she apologized for being the only person won't be going back

Yelp
We ordered take out Seafood gumbo - crawfish was nasty Fried shrimp platter - shrimp too spicy and the dip was watery. I couldn't even eat the macaroni and cheese. Everything had the same flavor. Nasty. Sorry Wilkie Mae. Can't lie.

Brian G.

Yelp
This place is built on love. Love of food, family, heritage and community. Thanks for your gracious welcome, fantastic service, and outstanding southern cuisine. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Shantelle is AMAZING. We rented the place for a party, and it was just such a nice atmosphere. Lots of seating, we could play our own music on their speakers, decorate, etc! Shantelle is so patient. And their food for parties is out of this world!! Everyone LOVED the pulled pork and fried chicken!! Fantastic job, Willie Maes!!

Yelp
Absolutely amazingly good food. Fresh, delicious, wonderful food. I couldn't ask for anything better than this. The restaurant is lovely, the wait staff were friendly & attentive, even though they were extremely busy. It was our first time there & we'll definitely be back.

Yelp
The food, first of all, is SO SO GOOD! Can't express this enough. The meatloaf was out of this world! The mashed potatoes I couldn't get enough of! The chicken Gumbo, the Brisket sandwich, the fish meal, the meatballs (oh my God the MEATballs), the cabbage, the Mac and cheese.. all dishes I've had so far were DIVINE! The staff are super nice too, providing excellent service. They're not on top of you all the time like Texas Roadhouse staff. They're like Quality Inn staff. There to welcome you warmly, give you the keys to a delicious meal, and clean up after you've stayed your welcome. The nicest, happiest people on earth. Now let's move on to the outside. Something great is going on. The facade is starting to shape up. Every time we drive past this place, something new is happening. Anyway, enough of this! Go to Willie Mae's Place ASAP. Sooner than later. And after that, go AGAIN. This place is a GEM in the heart of Gilbert, PA.

Yelp

Yelp
Have been here a few times now. Limited menu but all is great. Pulled brisket, pulled pork and shrimp and grits are winners. Don't forget to try the dirty tots too!! Service also excellent!!

Linda E.

Yelp
We went there last night for dinner for the first time. Since it was a Wednesday night it was quiet. The food and service were excellent. The owner made sure we were happy with the food throughout the meal. The restaurant does not have a liquor license. When asked for the beer we brought to be kept on ice, an ice bucket was brought to the table quickly. We were told a new menu was being prepared for the new year. We will return in the future.

Yelp
The main courses are good. Side dishes that accompany the meal need some help. I really want to like this place, but sides are bland.

Blanca W.

Yelp
Had take out family style ribs with Mac and cheese and dirty rice. Food was very good large sized portions at a great price. Will return.

Yelp
We stopped at this little restaurant featuring southern style flare dishes after it being recommended by a local business close by and we were very glad we did. The food was fantastic! We had the seafood gumbo and shrimp and grits. Both dishes had wonderful flavor!! The owners were very welcoming and friendly too and went out of their way to make sure we were satisfied with our meal. We'd recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a good meal and great service. It is BYOB but we were given a complimentary glass of beer and wine.
