Every time I've been to Willow Glen, I would always see a long line outside of Willow Glen Creamery and many people sitting next to the fountain outside enjoying their ice cream. Although I'm personally more of a fan of innovative ice cream, nothing wrong with the classic sense done right. I stopped by with my roommate on a sunny Saturday afternoon, the perfect day for ice cream. We ran across the street after seeing that the line wasn't out the door, and did not have any time to read the full menu before someone came up to take our order. Usually I go for a fruity flavor, something refreshing, not so sugary, and in a pretty color. There were so many pretty colors to choose from! Plus I think there was a sign saying there were 18 more flavors not on display, so how can anyone make an informed decision? In cases like these, I wasn't shy about describing my general flavor profile and asking for a recommendation.
Marble Black Raspberry: Reminded me a lot of the brambleberry crisp flavor from Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream at The Domain in Austin, TX. I'm personally a fan of fruity ice cream with vanilla just to get away from the sorbet selection, and I'd say this is a good flavor option if you're the same way.
Cookie Dough: I'm personally not a fan of cookies and brownies in ice cream because I feel that it starts to get too sweet. This wasn't too bad when combined with the marble black raspberry but it would be on the sweeter side if consumed alone.
I'd say the ice cream here is traditionally done right. If you're looking for authentic ice cream and not so much ice cream done differently, definitely give Willow Glen Creamery a shot. A huge selling point is the wide variety of topping options to choose from, which missed the mark for me because I'm not a cookies and candy toppings kind of person. If cookies, candy, and topping are exactly what you look for when it comes to ice cream, you won't be disappointed here.
