14 Stellar Spots to Sip Wine in Vancouver and Clark County, Washington | Eater Portland

"Windy Hills Winery Tasting Room and Event Center has a country club feel, complete with a stately tasting room surrounded by manicured grounds and a large outdoor space with a vineyard view. Winemaker Bob Mayfield began his wine career as a writer. He shadowed Oregon wine luminary Ken Wright for two years, visiting his vineyards and working every aspect of the crush in 1995 as research for a book he was writing. He similarly learned the craft from Russ Raney of Evesham Wood, and Mayfield often consults with Wright and Raney as a winemaker. Bottles for sale include a crisp, floral 2019 viognier made with grapes from Walla Walla Valley, as well as a 2017 tempranillo with grapes sourced from Chukar Ridge Vineyard in the Columbia Valley. Starters like an antipasto platter and entrees like fish and chips fill the short food menu." - Rachel Pinsky

Yelp
Windy Hills is fantastic! We went in on a Saturday evening and it was surprisingly quiet. We were just going to have one quick drink each and head home, but we ended up having a great conversation with Dave and ended up enjoying the winery for almost 2 hours. The ambiance here is fantastic. The building is spacious, but still cozy. Everyone on the team is always in a good mood, and the drink options are fantastic! We enjoyed the ciders this time, but the wines are delicious too! Great location, great service, great food and drinks!!!

Yelp
Got mood! Spacious and Beautiful winery. Great wines. Fun wine flight for $15. Chill in front of the fireplace, on the leather couches with your sweetie. Beautiful wood beams, rock fireplace, and friendly staff. Several food items to choose, mostly appetizers, and three entrees (chicken basket, fish and chips, breaded shrimp). We didn't try the food.

Yelp
Finally! A winery that offers spectacular views, wine, food, service, and hospitality! I've been in the local area for just over a year and have visited quite a few area wineries but I just haven't felt enough of a vibe to become a member. Until now. Both David and Ashley were awesome in sharing their family winery history and wine making. It's also nice to have a tasting in shot glasses and not in those tiny plastic disposable medicine cups some wineries are still continuing to use. Quality wines...I'm more into the whites, but the Trinity was an excellent red! The antipasto platter was very tasty and had some unique cheeses...I've never experienced purple cheese before. Yum! Next up, yoga and wine on the first Thursdays of every month!

Yelp
What an absolutely gorgeous venue! Came here on a Sunday afternoon with a couple girlfriends for a Pretty Pallets party. The service was friendly and helpful. They even provided complimentary ice water and snacks (trail mix and bar mix). We ordered the special, a sunrise memosa...very tasty! They also have a small gift shop area with really cute and crafty items. The facilities are clean, and the grounds beautiful. Perfect ambiance for a wedding. The only downfall is the large graveled parking lot. Hopefully they have plans to pave in the future. Will definitely be back for some wine tasting!

Yelp
Wine is wonderful, food is delicious, great entertainment, and Ashley is THE BEST!!!!!

Yelp
I decided to go to Windy Hills Winery with my boyfriend this afternoon, and let me tell you-- this place is wonderful! From the moment we drove up to the property, it was beautiful and inviting. As we walked into the tasting room, we were greeted by friendly staff members and had a nice conversation. We tried a white wine flight and red wine flight, each were $10. It was a great selection of wine, and we ordered a delicious cheese board. After completing the flights, we purchased three bottles of wine: The Malbec, The White Blend, and The Viognier. The only strange part of this experience is that the initial price of the wine flights weren't applied to the bottles of wine we purchased after the fact. At the end of the day, it was an enjoyable atmosphere and experience. If you're local and looking for a great winery, Windy Hills Winery is your place. I will be returning!

Yelp
It was a relatively low key Saturday. Not too many people were in the large seating area. Everything was very nice and new feeling. The atmosphere was warm and bright. Service was fast and friendly. The wine flight starts on a white and then gets better as you move on. I didn't care for the first three like I did the second three (but that may just be my taste). The food mostly seems to be frozen options, but the jalapeño poppers that we tried were good. They came with a strange jelly. It wasn't bad, but I think we'd prefer ranch.

Yelp
First time here today and I'm sad I wasn't blown away. I ordered the chicken strips and when my dad went to order them, they said I was getting the last order and they were trying to get more from the store. Well not everyone likes seafood and the only 2 other entrees were seafood. So my dad ended up only eating an appetizer, and I shared my chicken. The chicken had a good crisp to it, but it tasted store bought, with an uncharge. The ranch tasted like it was from a bottle as well. For such a nice venue, I'd expect more food options that weren't deep fried, and have fresh ranch as well. There is also no salad in sight! I ordered the gorgonzala cheesecake as well, which was tasty and unique. After a few bites I was kind of over it though, it needed just a bit more flavor or more Balsamic. The bread would've been better toasted too. The server who dropped off the cheesecake said that some people order it to go and put it on steak. Why can't steak be served in house, or burgers? I thought they had just opened up because of the limited food menu, but they've been open for several years. I know the focus is wine, but this place would be hopping if the food was kicked up a notch. I won't be back unless I see that they update their food options. It definitely needs to be elevated above a deep fryer. I would of given less stars due to the lack of food options, but service was friendly.

Yelp
The scenery is very pretty in the middle of ridgefield, but it feels like you are out in the country. We went in to do a wine tasting. Very good wines and setup. They were playing the football game in the tv which I appreciated but we sat in the other room to be able eo admire the scenery through the window. The staff was very friendly.will definitely be back.

Yelp
What a wonderful hidden gem in the heart of Ridgefield. Wonderful location, tasty food and excellent wines

Yelp
This facility is GORGEOUS!! It's only a year old but wonderful. Nice wines. Generous pours. $10 fee is waived with one bottle purchase. I got a great Vigonier that ended up being $15. Definitely check it out.

Yelp
While the views were nice, I didn't like any of the wines.... And I had a sampler of like 6 wines.

Yelp
My partner and I went here today. We enjoy wine tasting when the weather is nice and love to sip wine outside. Going in I didn't really have high expectations as Vancouver doesn't really have a large number high quality wineries. However, the wines at this place were some of the worst I've ever had. We did 2 tastings of 6 wines ranging from Viognier and Pinot Noir through to a few Cab blends. Unfortunately we didn't enjoy any of them. At least one was corked and the rest had off aromas and flavors. I'm not the best wine connoisseur by any stretch but these tasted terrible. The place was nice however and the people were very friendly. The tasting room was quite nice and was very well decorated, and the outdoor spaces were enjoyable. Just don't expect too much in terms of the quality of the wine.

Yelp
While a beautiful location with friendly staff, the wines are truly awful (we dod the basic tasting). This was our second time here because we had heard it was getting better, but it had not. When we expressed nothing was drinkable, there were no accommodation made (as it had been the first time we were there), so we must assume they are aware of the issues. Really wish the wine was better. Beautiful place.

Yelp
Great folks and great wine, lovely setting! What more could you want! Oh yes, great entertainment, especially in the event tent in summer. Fish and Chips are the best!

Yelp
Not only does this place have amazing wine, when your girlfriends accidentally spill their red wine on your white shirt they literally wash it for you. Five stars no question...

Yelp
We were on our way to another winery and saw their sign so we decided to take a detour. It was A little off a beaten path due to construction but we followed the signs and found it just fine. It's a beautiful winery and venue. We met the owner and he was so gracious and friendly. The wine was great and reasonably priced. Food was good. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
This is an amazing winery and they do such a fantastic job with their events. I have been there for work and pleasure and never had a bad experience. I suggest trying their red blend if you like something full bodied!

Keith Z.

Yelp
Wow we absoolutely love this family owned Winery. They get it when it comes to ambience, cleanlyness, graciousness, and great wine. I only wish they were open longer hours. Their reds are fantactic and their pours are substantial. With them offering your tasting fees free with a bottle purchase, which I can pretty much guarantee you'll do, it makes it a place you will want to go back to time and time again.... Oh and by they way... they paved their parking lot

Sandra m.

Yelp
They deserve every single star! Wonderful family owned winery- they have a new grassy lawn area with picnic tables where our little one and our pups played, while the adults had wonderful wine, food, and the best ambiance. Very friendly staff and overall the best winery to spend a sunny afternoon.

Yelp
Sampled 2 of I don't know how many of the Pinot noir verities! Both excellent, one sweeter then the other by a "teaspoon of suger. " in other words one with a traditional dry finish and the other with a kiss of sweet. MUST COME HERE. talk to One of the Kelley's or any number of helpful staff.......

Jim L.

Yelp
Just opened up a bottle of there Syrah that I purchased in October when visiting the area. This is the best red wine from the Washington area that I have tasted so far. I will have to make another trip up there hopefully soon. Also great people that work there. Keep up the good work.

Richard C.

Yelp
Excellent Pinot noir selections The view from the top of windy Hills is fantastic and breathtaking to look down on Monterey Bay!

Nolan Y.

Yelp
We've had the pleasure of visiting Windy Hills 2 times already and we love the wine and the beautiful location! We are so excited to have a new place to take guests when they visit, and we are looking forward to enjoying our new wine club membership!!!

Yelp
Absolutely gorgeous venue! Not sure why this place isn't packed yet. The viognier was great, wonderful, friendly staff and the views are to die for. Can't wait to come back in the Fall and Winter for the foliage and fireplace. Hope they book some music too.

Erin O.

Yelp
This winery was absolutely beautiful. The service was incredible and they were very friendly. They all took the time to explain the amazing wines and gave us great tips for other winery's to go to! I would recommend this to anyone!!! If you like them on Facebook you can see the events that they have going on as well. (They also serve awesome beer)
