Wine Hotel Retici Balzi

The biggest problem with staying at Ritizi Balzi is leaving. The experience is truly 5 star. Armando, his wife and the entire team make you feel like part of the family and the service is exceptional. The view from the comfortable lobby, breakfast room and the balcony in our room is stunning. Our room (Superior Double) and bathroom was spotless and very comfortable. Convenient parking and location is great for exploring the Valtellina. The best restaurant in the area - Il Poggio - is next door. The excellant breakfast features many treats including local artisan cheeses, fresh eggs, home baked pasties and fresh squeezed orange juice. So enjoyable to return to the hotel after dinner for a digestivo and admire the lights of Sondrio below. Many thanks to Marianna, Carmen, Claudia and Tonita for taking such good care of us.

From the check-in to the check-out I felt very warmly welcomed (by Claudia, grazie mille!). She gave me precious information about the surroundings and restaurants. The room was super cosy and the terrace view is marvellous. Outdoor jacuzzi with the mountain and vineyards view is like a dream. The quality of service provided is better than in some 5* hotels. I will come back for sure. And another big GRAZIE to Carmen (breakfast) and her colleagues and the room service lady who cleaned my room. She was very polite and didn't forget to say goodbye to me. Small details BIG impact !

This 4 star hotel is located up on the mountain side about 10 minutes from the center of Sondrio in Poggiridenti. It looks out to to a beautiful view of the Fume (River) Adda valley and the Bergamo Alpi (Alps). The owner and his family provide a warm welcome. (Someone complained and gave a lower rating because they did not have help getting their luggage to their room, but it is a small hotel - 11 rooms, and this seems petty.) The rooms were comfortable and clean, with comfortable beds. There is a very comfortable common area, also looking out to the valley. We had a very nice wine tasting of Valtellina wines - an important reason to come to this area. Breakfast is very good. There is a nice restaurant with a terrace looking out to the valley just below the hotel and other interesting restaurants are nearby in Tresivio and Sondrio. Castello Grumello is nearby to explore. There are other amenities offered for a self indulgent stay. We very much recommend this property.

Had a great experience. A really quiet, high-class, convenient hotel with stunning views. The staff were really really delightful and helpful. Would recommend and come back in the future.

We are now enjoying the 10th stay at this wonderful hotel! The owners Armando & Elena and their professional English speaking staff give you a feeling of warm welcome, care and an exquisit service. This modern hotel of several floors is placed in the middle of the wineyard terrasses, above the town of Sondrio. The spectacular view of the Valtellina valley from your balcony is breathtaking. The breakfast is to die for, consisting of omelette, local berries, eggs from hens nesting i the wood, yoghurt and home made bread and pastries. We will continue coming back to this fantastic place by car, hopefully once a year.

On a 5 week touring holiday through france, Italy and Austria, hubby noticed this place whilst planning a route to lake Garda, slightly off track but the combination of hotel and restaurant next door made us feel it was worth a little diversion. So glad we did. A beautifully appointed hotel with a wonderful restaurant next door (see separate review). We had a standard room (if anything here is standard) but it was lovely, spacious with a wonderful comfy bed, air conditioning, great shower etc, etc!! The staff were extremely professional and friendly and made you feel very welcome. We decided on a shared wine tasting on arrival followed by a glass of the wine we liked the most. Spectacular views of the surrounding countryside and a lovely outdoor patio to sit and relax on along with a nice lounge area. Not many rooms, I think maybe 6-9 with spacious parking for your car, elevator to help with luggage. Breakfast was very relaxed and besides offering lots on the buffet they also made your eggs to order, we had ham and cheese omelettes which were light and delicious (thanks to those free roaming hens)!!!. They have a spa apparently which we did not see but would imagine it to be small, lovely hot tub outside if you get chance to use, slippers and dressing gowns in the room. Will definitely be back if passing (or not)!! And would 100% recommend
