The Wife and I stopped in after dinner at Uncle Julio's accross the street. The decor is very nice - modern yet relaxing. We did notice a strange, somewhat unpleasant odor at first, but after a while we hardly noticed it at all.
There was only one other customer when we arrived, so we received plently of attention from the tender. He explained to us the different options - 2 menus of wines by the glass (the first, larger menu ranges from about $8-$10/glass, and the "premium" menu hangs out around $20 each), or we could do 5 tastings for $17.
We opted for glasses, and we're glad we did, as the tender happily stated "I'm going to pour you tasts of different things until I find what makes your eyes light up!" And he then proceeded to do exactly that - he asked us what our general tastes in wine are, and then he would pour a taste of something. Before he told us what the wine was, he let us taste and enjoy. He would then tell us what we were drinking, and more often than not those selections were his personal favorites and not even on the menu. Eventually he whittled it down until he found the perfect wines for each of us, at which time he poured a full glass.
When the time came to pay the tab, he only charged us for the full glasses - not the tastes he had already poured for us! Seeing that, we felt happily obliged to bring a bottle to take home. We asked for his recommendations, a little nervous that he would try to sell us on something quite expensive. The tender, however, recommended a bottle that was extremely reasonably priced.
I signed up for the email list - they have quite a few special events throughout the year, including parties for each of the Triple Crown races, so we'll definitely be back!
